With the Gold Coast Blaze becoming a force in the NBL the Gold Coast School Basketball is really starting to step up and be one of the big boys. Schools like TSS and PBC have established themselves. The region is now starting to boom with a lot more tournaments being played. This thread will be used to post anything to do with Gold Coast School Basketball such as results, stats, players, reps etc.

Seeing as the interschool season starts soon the results should be flowing in in no time.

I'd like to know everyone's favorite to take out this years interschool title, last year it was PBC who beat Hillcrest in the final I believe (correct me if I'm wrong).

Sounds like PBC's team this year is quite pathetic the way you put it. Seeing as Benowa and Helensvale play each other and only one will advance to the semi-final and Marymount is also in that division, looks like Hillcrest is likely to make the Gold Coast Final once again unless Varsity can stop them in the semis. Wasn't Brent Sheppard Benowa's best player? I heard they all looked to him to score last year, how are they going to cope without him? Both times Hillcrest played Helensvale they beat them last year but sounds like Helensvale has improved. Looks to be an exciting season!



Hillcrest's Basketball program has improved dramaticly as they have hired two new coach's (one american) and now train before and after school as well as having a team "the Heat" in the Gold Coast Basketball league. By the way the state player Hillcrest lost went over to USA to play Basketball.

Yeah I think the first few games are practises in that region. It sounds like both Benowa and Helensvale are going to grow a big rivalry this year, its likely the winner of those two will win the whole thing. Doesnt that region play the Beenleigh region in the semis?

hillcrest have a strong team this year. lost big from last year (dylan) but have some good bottom age players comeing up and solid players from last year as well (dane, jesse, josh,joey). Also big bad brodie verrall is back!!!! and looking better then ever ;) . Joey the muscle man davidson will be inflicting some damage inside me thinks.

The american coach is thaylo green - ex nbl player and former aba player (pbc's former assistant coach?? not sure) should be able to take this team the whole 9 yards :)

It's as simple as this.. PBC won't be as strong as last season.. aggreed? they might still put up a fight but they dont have anto + crew..

Hillcrest have 1 or 2 players, but definitly not in the TSS pool. They will compete against H'vale + Benowa but will never ever look like winning a state championship or a game against TSS.

TSS - a very very solid team last year, very well drilled with arguably the best schools coach in the comp. They're only gonna be better then last year, a year older, a year stronger, a year wiser and fitter. Expect a close to undefeated season in GPS and a top 3 at champion schools.

Helensvale - Guard centeral. Very good guard line up incl. 3-4 state level guards in the lineup but will struggle matching up with big team like ur BBC's and Terrace.

Benowa - Strong-ish team last year, lost their key players in the Austrian and Brent "god to bendoes" sheppard. Guard centeral aswell, proberly 5 of their better players are still there. Not a stand out team but from the game against PBC last year and catching them at CBSQ, definitly not a team to go un-noticed.

Rest of the pack - You've got ur Marrimacs, Marrymounts, Robina, Mt Tambo and the rest, expect nothing, they might make a layup.

GPS - TSS 1st
BSHS 2nd

GC Schools - H'vale 1st
Benowa 2nd
PBC 3rd

vale pretty much dominated us defensivly for about 10mins of that game, we didnt control the ball well and didnt control the game, thats where we lost our lead, maybe lost the game.

TSS aren't in the interschool comp. They play GPS.

1 and 2 between an improved Helensvale roster (Jarrod McCathy, Rohan Melloy & Luke Sams) and Benowa SHS who only loose Brent Sheppard & some bigs after second behind a stacked PBC outfit but winning the pool.

PBC have lost Anthony Olah & 3/4 of the opens team while the 2nds from 2007 look very, very weak (last place at CBSQ div 2).

Hillcrest have lost a state player but could still be strong providing an improvment on last years performance (blow out by half time in the finals vsing PBC)

Varsity have invested in a highly ranked coach and have been scouting players from around the coast, but this could all be romours. Any body have a copy of the roster?

That may be so but Helensvale and Benowa dont seem to be much competition for PBC and Varsity managed to lose to Keebra Park, I mean WTF, Keebra should only be good at Rugby not ball.

The Northern Division that Hillcrest are in is very weak, quite often Hillcrests seconds team going through the division undefeated with the exception of the lost to their firsts team. Hillcrest is going to lose Luke Scott, Dane Taylor and Joel Smith this year.

I can only add to what woodybird has said, it will depend on where you are living to which school he will go to. You MUST register him in May or there may not be a place for him in September. Registration is usually the 1st week in May.
I can also recommend dangermouse off this forum, she is at the schools most weeks and knows the system inside out.
