View Full Version : NBL Playoffs
Crocs downed the Blaze tonight. Was a good game to watch, bit of biff in the first half between Williamson and Frank (lucky for Drew it was broken up before punches were thrown). GC led at the half, but Crocs took control early in the third and never looked like losing.
Bonehead play of the game goes to Brendan Joyce for substituting Whitehead out (14pts at the time) for Joyce jr (3 pts, at the time) with 3:30 left in the game when GC were down by about 8. Joyce airballed at least 2 shots, fouled a couple of times and turned it over at least once in his stint. I felt sorry for the kid, he was asked to help keep GC in the game and bring them back but he was clearly not ready for the situation. I have seen others post about the obvious bias Brandon shows towards his son and saw it first hand tonight. It is bad, REAL bad. Gold Coast fans, get rid of your coach if you want to have any success, Brandon Joyce killed any chance you guys had of making a comeback tonight.
Unfortunatley for GC Crowe was TERRIBLE. Didn't score until last minute of the game!!!!!! missed an open lay-up in the last ditch attemps of GC to come back which summed up his night. Rillie was sensational, showing no signs of his shooting elbow injury to put on a 3pt clinic. Homicide could not be contained, driving whenever he wanted. Harvey the only real standout for the Blaze with some great shooting, and unfortunately got hurt in the third which clearly slowed him down (maybe a calf, but not sure).
Crocs to play Perth on Friday night (in Perth), then have to back up against Sydney on the Monday if they win! Not really fair for the lower teams if they manage to get to the semis, a game every 2 days throughout the finals if they keep getting through.

i was at our rep training last night and saw the last 3mins and was wondering what time joyce came on for l-dubb its a joke he did that against sydney kings a couple of weeks ago when we came back from 21 down to get within a basket.
the sad news is tho we made the playoffs and the joyces jobs are safe I have realy hated the way crowe has been getting treated here i think the last solid performance i saw was when we hosts west sydney and we were up by 19 and the pigs made a run at us to get within 8 crowe hit 2 threes and a lay up and misssed 2 thurther shots in a little strech and was yelled at by joyce then subbed out.
too much politics i say and as a coaster im over it a know a lot of people who wont renew there season tickets next year.
on face book there is a fire brendon joyce group i urge all to join
WOLLONGONG PLEASE HELP US YOU GUYS ARE ONES WITH SENSE

I wholeheartedly agree. I absolutely could not believe what I was seeing.
Without a doubt, Townsville's MVP for the game was Son of Joyce. If I was a Blaze supporter, I would feel cranky. All facebookers join the Sack Joyce and Son group!!!!!!!!

did u apply for the coaching job at the blaze, obviously u can do a better job than him
thought joyce made some mistakes but all coaches make mistakes at some point in games
u would not have made the playoffs this year if u had another coach u should be thankful to clacker for givin choc the job and getting the squad he was able to put together in their first year back in the league
no doubt next year he will put a better product on the floor and cut some of the deadwood

no that position was swen up early and the fact that you are standing up for this crap when its been happening all year is that you are either related to joyce or very nieve
be perpared to be dissapointed next year just ask wollongong supporters
Perth destroyed the Crocs by 18 tonight. A solid defensive effort in the 2nd quarter set the game up for the Wildcats as they never looked back. Poor rebounding by the Crocs kept them out of the game I feel as they gave up far too many offensive boards.
Interesting exchange of words between the two head coaches after the game, I definitely could read a f**k you from Fischer's lips. Have to wait and see what that was about.
Maybe I am the last to know, but heard today that Brendan Joyce nominated his son for Best 6th Man and Best Defensive player for the league as the Blaze representative. Is this guy completely dellusional???? I expected him to nominate Daniel for 6th Man, but Best Defensive??? Daniel is clearly a poor defensive player at the NBL level. I feel more sorry for this guy every time his dad tries to pump sunshine up his backside. I personally think that Brandon giving his son a bad reputation by making him out to be something he is clearly not - a valuable NBL player. Maybe one day Daniel will be, but wake up to yourself Brandon, stop trying to prove everybody wrong because you are only embarrassing your son and portaying yourself as a moron when it comes to coaching.
Get this guy off the Boomers coaching staff for God's sake!
Fisher would've been telling Gleeson that he is an A Grade cockmongler :) Apart from Joyce, there is no bigger prat in this league.
That's crazy if Daddy nominated SOJ for those awards. Surely a mistruth!!!
I should also remark that Fisher is a complete prick who has no sense of sportsmanship. Nobody calls a timeout with two minutes to go when they're up by 20.

i would especaly when you want to get your keys players out and bench in to play rubbish minutes if there was ment to be compassion for a team trailing by 20 there would be a mercy rule.
as scott said he didnt want his guys to break traps so they got the ball at half way very coach has the right to time outs 2 in the first half and 3 in the 2nd half there is no rule on when you can or can not have a time out unless you have used them all

The (not so) new rule is that teams can have subs in the last 2 mins after a score becuase the clock is stopping after a basket during this time, so there was absolutely no reason for Perth to call a timeout other than to disrespect the Crocs. To get the bench players in all they had to do was call a sub, as the timeout in question was granted to Perth after the Crocs had just made a basket.

since when was calling a time out disrespecting the oppisition what a load of b s
often games at the end of a blowout become rubbish or even messy as your bench is on the floor so you could be calling a time out to settle them down sort out your sets, or even tell your guys not to be cocky and show respect to the oppisition.
and if all else fails prepare your team better play harder defence and work on execution
just because one team has given up or about to end the season why should another coach stop coaching to perpare for the next round / game

You stuffed up the first time bloke, don't try to dig yourself out of this hole. Obviously you didn't watch the game, and have no clue what was going on.
Get someone to tape a replay of the game, watch it, then come back and tell us how stupid you were.

Exactly like the post above says, you obviously didn't see the incident at all (or you did see it and just fail to understand the argument). Fischer stood around for half the timeout scratching his behind before coming in at the last second to draw a couple of lines on his playboard for their next posession. A couple of plays earlier the Crocs had even subbed a couple of starters out to seemingly wave the white flag, so there was no question that the Crocs had already conceded defeat at this point. They weren't even fouling to put the Wildcats on the line either.
It is well known to those who have an understanding of the game that you don't call timeouts in the dying stages whether you are in front or behind by a lot just because you have them available. With the current rules you don't even have to call a timeout to call a sub in the dying stages either. It's simply a disrespectful way to rub salt into the wound on Perth's behalf.

i side with fisher no has the right to dictate when a time out can or cant be called but the refs if they award it then tough.
if stupid means i havnt read all this properly which has turn into a for and against argument then you need to read the whole thread

2700 turned up for a quarter final, pretty poor crowd.
Wonder why, could it be that the Bullets crap marketing, that is if they have a marketing arm.
I've had so many people ask how are the Bullets going because they don't see or here anything about them.
Pity we have a great team on the court and no marketing to back them up.

Courier Mail doesn't help. It "buries" articles on basketball 8 or 9 pages in from the back page. It took a Grand Final victory to grudgingly get some decent exposure last season.
Yet we get pages and pages of useless information on other sports. :banghead:

no i think they mean stupid as in its got nothing to do with the actual rules.. jus a little thing called sportsmanship buddy even if a qlder coach had done it it's still bad sportsmanship it's just not in the spirit of the game an if you do it your basically a tossbag...
anyway back to the here an now, it's frustrating having to read through 3 pages of soccer to get a corner article on a national semi-final game/s even the horses get closer to the back page then us sometimes..
its ridiculous but hopefully after we beat tigers tonite we get a lit better coverage http://forum.brisbanebasketball.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

Oh well, back to the drawing boards for 2008-09. Surely this season has showed Brisbane need to find a genuine centre!
On a side note, I can't see what the controversy is with Anstey doing the finger to the crowd when nothing has been said about Sean Lampley grabbing the refs arm towards the half time break, alah A league soccer final!

Anstey got pinged 2 grand for doing what he did at the finals thats 1 grand a finger.
Sammy Mac got 1 grand for giving Perth the finger back in 05.
I think he Anstey should have been given more. (accounting for inflation and that fact it was a final game)
On another note its good to see somebody step in after the refs couldn't handle the game but it still doesn't give us the result we wanted.
They should introduce a video ref ...
Anyway my 2c worth...
