Anybody now who did not make it? From what I saw GC and Wizards looked the pick of the teams? what did you see? are BQ going to post results?

The Coast should be strong. Young Luke Richardson is a 3 year veteran of under 12 Premier League. Lewis Beks migrated from Bendigo. Talon and Jasper and Drew are all experienced at this level.
Brent Sheppard and Dave Beks are coaching the boys.
Lots of potential there!

Gees the season hasnt even started yet and this same person is gunning for Logan's most accomplished junior Coach...AGAIN!!!
Give it a break please. If you or your husband were able to achieve what she has when you had your chance somebody may listen to your criticism. You couldnt, nobody is and all your doing is casting a shadow over the image of your Association which is heading down an exciting road in the public eye. Again...give it a break.

only got one thing to say...

Hope Peter Pollock (who is by far the most "accomplished coach" at Logan)
doesn't take offence to the above post... there is no comparison.. she is not in the same league.

Nice sentiment but I'll think you will find a whole host of accomplished coaches at Logan. Shelley Trinder coached my daughter in U12's in Cairns and did an exceptional job in getting them to the Classics final. I TRY to coach my daughter in club and it ain't easy coaching girls. Utmost respect to you Shelley! Justin Vasterink U16B state champions and he is only a puppy. Larry O'Bree, how many Nationals has he been to? Richard Orlick NBL coaching experience! Geoff McLeod ABA experience! Go Thunder!

Far be it for me to placate things with anything I say here but Pete is on the right track in reminding people that we are in the midst of exciting times and are surrounded by quality people at Logan.
Whoever made the first comment.... you obviously know of Shelley but you don't appreciate that Shelley (warts and all) is a marvellous person & coach.
To the first responder, I know who you've aimed your comments at but I think you are off target.... These also are wonderful and selfless people and would not jeapordise the association's credibility with silly comments....
Lets keep things positive which Mark and the rest of the families at Logan have worked very hard to build on these past few years.
As a person who is still on a steep learning curve in the coaching field, I cannot help to get excited every time I see what is happening around me at Logan and watch as our youngsters improve and the numbers increase as each year goes by.... something is going right and we don't need to feed the negative monsters at the moment.
Lets make this the last word on the subject and stay with the positive

Here's an idea guys.

Register on the Forum....... then you can start a thread...... you can call it whatever you want... say..... "Logan people discuss their coaches." Then those of us interested in this thread, which is by the way "Under 12 Boys Premier League" can choose to ignore your discussion.

Thanks guys.

Not wanting to buy into anything here and no disrespect to your achievements Polly, just hoped to stem the continual sniping at Shelly Trinder thats been coming for so long now. Shelly's a great coach and a great gal'. Logan's on the verge of something great in basketball and doesnt need this type of behaviour from the dark old days. Power to Marcus and all he's doing there.

Looks like the Logan coach debate has quietened down.... at last.

Speaking of Logan.... I flew in - actually - ran in :D to the Tallebudgera Fitness Centre yesdee and managed to catch a bit of the Waves boys. It was a fairly comprehensive victory for the Coasties with big Luke R, Lewis Beks and Talon Guest looking good. Coach Shepp and Assistant Beks really have these boys motoring. They seemed to be pushing the ball up the floor pretty well for Under 12's. :hifive:

Logan were game all the way and were still having a go until the final siren. Junior Morris seemed to be the best from what I saw although I didn't catch the whole game so maybe someone from Logan can give their best a wrap on here.

so does anyone else think the grading comp isn't working for this age group? from what I've seen and heard the div 1 teams are far beyond the div 2 standard and won't improve by playing against these much weaker sides...

Fly
04-11-07, 21:18
maybe bbi and runaway bay mightn't be as competitive as caboolture and ipswich would be in div1, but other than that i think it's worked.

those four teams are probably pretty similar, with some of the other div1 teams not too far ahead.

But why should it be a second team from one of the big Associations getting beaten by huge margins? Surely it brings more long term overall benefit to the greater good of all Associations and kids if all Associations are allowed to compete at the higher level. It's the same across most of the age/gender groups and the only thing thats worked from the grading comp is increasing registration numbers and the power base of the bigger Associations.

I doubt if there is much differnce between BBI & RB and Ipswich & Suns this year, and not a terrible gap between top team in Premier league and bottom unlike in previous years when there have been 50 or 60 point thrashings.

From what I have seen premier league is quite even and the beauty of a 8 team comp is no double header weekends. In u12 no big association are putting in 2 teams in premier league.

So maybe the format is a little hard on Ipswich and Suns but in the long run I think it is on the right track. If Ipswich and Suns challenge and win v BBI and RB, then they will have there time in Premier league.

Unregistered
06-11-07, 20:07
I was more thinking about the young div 2 teams that have taken a thrashing from some of these div 1 teams. they're bigger in height and weight and they appear to be walking all over the little ones. nobody learns from games like that. if anything ipswich and suns are worse off playing in div 2 because they won't improve by playing younger, smaller teams. and theres no point a div 2 team playing a div 1 team if they're just going to get physically beaten. but such is life. lets hope all teams benefit because at the moment nobody seems to be.

Keep your shirt on Freddy Bears! Apart from an outsider with a fair bit of inside knowledge, sticking up for a friend who was being publicly maligned by esteemed members of her own bloody Association, no one really gives a flying about the weekly days of our lives at good old Logan Basketball. You can say you all bloody rock for all anybody else cares, (and some of them like Shelly and Polly actually do), but out there in the real basketball world there's quite a few who fall short of the grade and whose only indicator of success is their own self contrived success story or self advertising, whether true and factual or not.
Hope this doesnt start them up again!

EMU'S TIPS OF THE WEEK.

Using my tipping guidelines for simplicity. That is, Under or over 15 as a points spread.

Logan v Bay.
Should be a close one. Logan by under 15

Northern Lemon Heads vs Brizzos.
Home court advantage the difference. Maroochy by Under 15

Northside v Spartans.
Another close one. Giving to the home side. Northside by Under 15

Game of the round: Waves v SW Metro
Metro (1) v Waves (3). Should be a cracker. The very fast improving Waves against the well-drilled Metros. I think I saw enough last week from the GC Boys to put my feathers on the line and go with the home court boys.
Coast by Under 15. I'll go further...... Coast by 3. :eye-popping:

i think maroochydore are the team to beat because they have beatin goldcoast twice by 3 and 8. and they have beatin southwest once and they have a match against them this week at there home.

Fly
15-02-08, 21:05
I think Gold Coast still the team to beat.

It is very close though. to add to your reasoning, Northside have beaten Maroochy by 26 and 32, but I don't think they've beaten goldie or swm. Guess it depends on how you matech up, and how you play on the day.

Unregistered
17-02-08, 10:41
Hard to call on their day Goldie, SWest, NWest and Maroochy can all beat each other.
Goldie has the size and good balanced team. SWest run and gun scoring probably he most physical. NWest can dominate with their bigger players and Maroochy, good gaurds and defence. I wouldn't want to back against any of them. Now it will be interestion to see how they all go in the classics.

Unregistered
02-03-08, 05:43
No real race, the four cant change. In the end it will be Goldie 1, Swest 2, Maroochy 3, North West 4. Bad luck for Logan who season was always going to be tough after a poor start but have come home well. Apart from a couple of early big losses to Runaway bay / Ipswich the comp has been very close, 1 to 8 could just about beat any one. Its been great to see.

hey Guys

just thouht i would let you know what is happening up NORTH

well at the moment it is all preseason for us all! TON starts next month in Burdiken then we are at Mulgrave for a 3 day event then a few weeks after we are at Mackay.

thats the way of the TON

Cairns are looking alright with a decent big and some decent ball movers.
Townsville will once again be a force...
Mulgrave are training hard and have picked up some nice players.
Mackay - from what i hear (and only what i hear) are struggling for numbers! but i am sure they will put a decent team on the floor.

my pick for TON

Townsville
Mulgrave
Cairns
Mackay

being under 12s its all about how they stack up on the day. could see some great upsets this season!

cant really go past tville to take it out though as they have dominated for years!

Thanks

Drew

Unregistered
05-03-08, 21:00
Maybe I missed something but BQ has Logan finishing 5th on percentages.
On the zone thing, it is really hard to have these boys play denial man on man D for the whole game, but I have noticed more teams playing actual zone type (4 and 5 in the key) defences since the Christmas break. I think that shows in how close a lot of the games have been recently. Some of the good individuals have been slowed a little when this happens. If thats what it takes I guess. This is too hard for really young refs to police, but don't some of the parents go off.
Any way good luck those in the finals over the next couple of weeks.

Unregistered
05-03-08, 21:11
agreed and some coaches do that same as parents for example gold coast and logan coaches are the main people to be frowned at because they yell and scream up and down the side lines personally i think its a joke expecially at this age group

Unregistered
06-03-08, 04:54
Yes... Logan did finish 5th on percentages but in the game of basketball all across the world, when 2 or more teams tie in games won/loss, points percentage does not distinguish them.... games won/loss between those 2 teams throughout the regular season is what is used. Logan beat Northside both times and so therefore advance......
Unfortunately referees are not allowed to make the calls on Zone so you will find noone has told them any such thing re watching it closely. I think it is important before each game from here on in, that each coach knows who the designated zone buster is and make sure they get them quickly if they think a zone is occurring. Make sure they also get their kids to go 5 out and start sending cutters through so that the zone buster can easily see if each of the defence is picking up on their man.
As for coaches screaming..... each coach has their unique style and their personailty comes out during the game...... Bobby Knight (all time winningest coach in US collegiate basketball) was a screamer...... would you say he was a "joke"???? I think the real judge is the kids themselves. Do they think their coach is a joke? I know Shelley is well respected and loved by her kids and they can decipher what it is she is saying to them rather than the manner in which it is delivered.
cheers

Sorry champ, dont take this the wrong way but 30 years of playing the game didn't give me the ability to know every game that Logan won or lost, I could only go on what I was seeing on the BQ web sight, but thanks for reminding me thats the way its' done in basketball "all around the world". I have to say I have thought the coaches behaviour this year has been pretty good, but still you have to remember when you justify a bad behavoiour because it get results, remember these kids are 8,9 and 10 years old. I was pointing the finger more at some of the parents and others in the crowd at some venues. Normally coaches have a bit of a word in the ear of a ref as they go by and at this level do understand that some of the refs are developing also. It's some of the parents that start screaming that put the preasure on both the refs and their little darlings who will have no chance of making the NBA they miss a lay up or get a bit slack on D.
That got that of my chest, good luck then Logan, you obviously did have a good second half of the season.

From what i hear Ashley Archer is the coach for the TVILLE HEAT!
some guy is coaching the Cairns team. they do have a good pool of talent there for the players but i think the jury is still out on the coaching.
I am coaching the Mulgrave team (waiting for the comments here....)

also, people on this site are talking about zone D and how the REFS will be told to look for it?

the process is that if a coach feels there is a zone they have to get a zone buster at classics! THIS IS NOT UP TO THE REFS! how can i junior ref be asked to call the game and watch out for a zone! most of the time the refs dont know what a zone is anyways.

but thats what the ZONE BUSTERS are for. they do a good job at this.

its not a referees duty
i have attended 2 u12 classics and its is drilled into us that its not our duty
if the teams have a problem with the defence... go find a zone buster
thats what their there for...and i can guarentee thats what the refs will be told again this year
if any coach complains they will be told to go find a zone buster... and the zone buster will talk to them
if the coach doesnt stop playing a zone... then the refs are instructed to give techs... but thats not their decision as to when it is time to tech

I have only been coaching the wizards team for 4 weeks, so I am not sure if GC were at full strength as that is the first time I have seen GC play. one thing for sure is that we were not at full strength.

We were missing 1 fringe starter and were limited by foul trouble mid 3rd quarter by having 3 starters (our centre, pf and sg) with 4 fouls a piece. Did not play them til mid 4th qtr.

Wizards played GC last week of PL and only lost by 4. GC had everyone then, Wiz missing their lefty. So they mightn't have had to improve much at all to draw this time around...

Also depends on how you match up with certain teams.

With 1 day to go who will make it to the boys grandfinal with logan advancing through tonight against a small townsville team that gave the logan team a tough game.

It will come down to Gold Coast Vs Townsville to make the final. It will be an interesting game as townsville look like they have hit there straps after dissapointing day 2. Gold Coast will go through as favourites and should get the victory to head to the final.
Anyone else got any thoughts about the game

How about Harry Froling from Townsville Heat

He scored 45 poiints and 15 rebounds to still go down to Logan...

Look out for him in the future, and the rest of the tournament!

CONGRATULATIONS LOGAN BOYS AND GIRLS.
Shelley and Justin you did an awesome job coaching your little teams. All credit to you both.

Of course U12 Classics should continue, what an exciting aspiration to aspire to for these little ballers. If my child hadn't gone thru the many experiences of the ups and downs of classics over the past 4 years, he would not be the well rounded, fun loving, potential skilled player he is today.

Well how good were the Logan U 12 boys winning the State Classics without dropping a game. Lots of hard work and dedication has paid off! Good job.

Would anyone like to offer the best 12 players from U12 boys.

Say, 6 guards/6 forwards.

I reckon the top three teams had the best 3 forwards. Any suggestions?

I thought the U12 boys final was a great game and good for basketball. I thought townsville boys put up a great fight against the Logan boys. Full credit to Logan tho with some very good individual players that got them home at the end. Townsville boys did not give up at all in the game even when they were 24 points down.
But over all it was a pretty good final to watch.
