I'll give you this, Garet has been a good "import" 4 churchie exspecially his category and 1sts.
He is a good player but my good is he a hog. Have you watched him play... do you guys not undertand that basketball is a team sport. TEAM. I heard he played well at nationals but how many min. did he play how many shots did he take, how many assists did he make, and who was the coach? why cant he do anything if he's dad's not involved? and for him to boast that he scored 40 somethng is a true show of his character. I saw him play, got pretty angy when he got subbed off, started thowing a BF, In my mid there's players way better then him, who with a bit off a "push" could be prodominently great basketball players. Play the game, stop showing off and dont boast, players are beating you, dont think your too good.

Peace OUT

TSS- 2008 GPS PREM.

Churchie is just arrogant and have that typical Churchie attitude that are deeply in love with themselves. If I want any team to win the premiership it would be TSS. They play well and know it, but not once do they disrespect the game by letting the other team know it. Best team in the GPS with great sportsmanship. I hope they humiliate Churchie in the final round.

I watched him play for Churchie against BSHS and he was excellent, ran the plays well, took limited shots but when he did they were the correct decisions to do so.

Great young kid who will make it whoever is his coach.

obviously a kid from tss, if tss dont win this year they will only have themselves to blame, they have worked so hard with this age group and if they still sit in a zone against ippy, churchie and state high ( yes they have all 3 of them to play) they will lose one game, they will not win it sitting in a zone, if state high play like they did on saturday expect a 3 or maybe 4 way tie, if churchie play the way they have been playin expect a churchie premiership, if ippy beat churchie and tss then again expect a tie for the premiership.

think of the facts mate, tss still have to play all 3, ippy to play churchie and tss, churchie to play tss and ippy, state high to play tss, some1 will lose something im guessing

chuchie vs igs will be a game of similar styles both with dominant bigs. bshs played a much better game against igs with faster and better ball movement and guards attacking and getting early fouls on matt limiting his impact. the better team play allowed good shots to be taken by bshs on transition . they went back too one out play and let igs back into it in the 3/4 before reverting to the style that in the end won them the game.

TSS do look like a better team than state high at champion schools, they have had it very tough going down to runcorn in a ding dong. Then losing their quarter final to Iggy Park.
State high have had 3 tight wins in a row to get into the top 8, then semi final then the final.

TSS have had 2 teams go nutz on them, TSS look the full package, state high have been up and down but they haven't faced a championship style team like TSS or Mountain Creek.

TSS and IGS did a very tough battle with IGS bringing it back close then TSS hitting some massive shots and then scoring the final 6 points for a 13 point win. It will be a very good GPS game with both teams just playing scrambling zones and executing fast paced offence. Very Exciting.

sounds like some big sour grapes mate, well if u wanna bring everything into the count, state high beat ippy by 20 and tss beat them by 13, state highs only tight win of the tourny was runcorn in which tss lost too, state high beat jpc by 15 or 13 but were never really in doubt of the final result up all game just needed to pick there spots.. sounds like someone is scared, dont be scared

Schools back and that means the final 3 rounds of GPS. This round sees some big games, let's have a look.

Ippy taking on Churchie at Sleeman. Ippy have to win to stay in the hunt for the title. Churchie win and they play for their first ever Opens premiership in 2 weeks at TSS.

TSS at State High Brissy boys coming of theirgreat state title in the Champions School comp. Also last up winners over Ippy, they will be confident. TSS are the other undefeated side joining Churchie with that honour. However the Coast boys have the big 3; State High, Ippy, and Churchie to close out the season. They; like Churchie control their own destiny, win all 3 they are GPS Champions, drop one and it gets interesting.

One more BIG game is being played up on the range with TGS hosting the boys from Grammar. This clash finds both teams winless for the season, the loser will take home the Spoon for 09. I hear Grammars best player is doubtful to play, throw in the fact that its in Twmba; with their refs, it's a toss up.

Happy hunting boys!!

TSS to drop back some
BSHS to be in the mix again
IGS to fall far and hard.

1. Churchie/ TSS tie
2. BSHS
3. Nudgee
4. GT
5. BGS
6. TGS
7. BBC

churchie- big three, great coach
TSS- tall team, play effective defence, decent coach
BSHS- though lost players will still bring hustle with quick gaurds
Nudgee- underdog, no one expects them to do anything, thats where they come from behind suprosing teams.
GT- alright on the offensive end though lack defence
BGS- got a few rep playing bigs not bad on D
TGS- few big blokes but will lack defence
BBC- are just shit

This guy could be the ultimate tipster, except for the love for Nudgee? WTF? Does not bother me one bit that he toally forgot to mention Ippy either, gold!!

Anyone else find it ironic that the year after Trevor Cook is shown the door at Churchie, the school enjoys it's first premiership in the opens in 18 years! Cookie was a great individual coach, but has never been able to suceed on the sidelines in a real game.

IMO the signing of Bruce Palmer as HC and to a lesser extent the late addition of Garrrett drove the side to the heights it has achieved in 08. Make no mistake Palmer is the catlyst for Churchies sucess, he has few peers in Oz and certainly not in the GPS competition.

Congrats, and lets hope for a great game on Saturday down the coast.

I gave Trevor more than enough respect, he is a very good individual coach. However he could not lead a camel to water.

Palmer and Cook should not even be mentioned in the same sentence when speaking about Basketball coaches. Palmer has won at every level, Trevor like a lot of others is good at teaching fundamentals. Cookie had many years at Churchie and never really came close to a GPS Open Priemership. He also "brought in' many players with scholorships and still no title.

As far as the scholorships go, Churchie have two of their Opens' team on scholorship, Garrett and CB. There are others like TSS and Ippy that have more players on scholorship. Seems like a pretty good investment?

Doesn't that tell you something?
These people would prefer to play Premier League then represent their school.
Surely they have to get their priorities right.
This also tells people that BSHS only have two good imports this year.

maybe the scholarships helped too.

Oh yeah, of course the scholarships helped. The scholarships always help.

It's ridiculous that these schools take winning to such extremes that they bring kids in to play for them.

It's probably because Terrace kicks their arses in sports where they don't import, and in U/13's and U/14's.
(Think: Head of the River, Volleyball, U/13 and U/14B sports and below).

Nowadays, the school with the best B or 2nds is really the best school, because their A's / Firsts are supplemented with imports.

I feel sorry for the kids that get replaced by imports.

Doesn't that tell you something?
These people would prefer to play Premier League then represent their school.
Surely they have to get their priorities right.
This also tells people that BSHS only have two good imports this year.

mate, they rep there school to a prime, they're state champs baby..
they couldnt win gps no matter the outcome of the game, they got a lead with good game up til half time, and there team got the job done with getting the W..

its pretty sad that ur saying, they play half a game and still win, pretty sad of terrace then yeah

Oh yeah, of course the scholarships helped. The scholarships always help.

It's ridiculous that these schools take winning to such extremes that they bring kids in to play for them.

if your saying 2nds tells you who is the best basketball school then school baskedball is imbarrasing.
the only way to improve the competition is to get better players.

one example
the rugby competition is unbelievable, the tallent on the field each week.
if no one imports in basketball the tallant and competition would be imbarrasing.
you have to have the best players in sport at the best schools.
if you look at majorty of imports they couldnt afford to attend a top school(GPS)
we need to have the best players for any sport attending the best schools for Australias sake if they make it in the long run.

What's really "imbarrasing" is that GPS schools can't even teach their students to spell correctly. There mustn't be much "tallant" amongst students, if they can't spell talent correctly.

And what do you mean "for Australia's sake"?
Half of the imports aren't even from Australia.

mate im from a state school all my mates are at GPS schools
i wish i could attend a GPS school.
most might not australian but majorty of the good imports go on to represent australia anyway.
for australia's sake = if half a team had bad teaching when they were at high school half of teams wouldnt rock up to training every day and they would all go get pissed on weekends and get into heaps of trouble with the cops like the broncos recently

you just pissed off cause terrace never imports and almost every other school does. thats why you loose most things

Of course that's why we lose most things.
But we've still managed to win more premierships than Churchie in basketball. It really says something that when they import they win, other times they're terrible.

Ummm, i am not sure who does Churchie's games, but there are afew guys around the league (me for one of them) that do school games that are on the QABL panel. Again not sure who does Churchie, but i hardly would call some of the guys out there scrubs or kids (though some arent the best). Problem is that there isnt enough refs out there, especially not enough to put up with the crap of school games, behaviour and attitude needs to be fixed, then maybe the refs will come.

But like i said, i am on the QABL panel, and have done games this season for GT, BGS and BBC aswell as some AIC schools, and hardly class myself as a scrub (and if you just watch churchie games, i have done them twice this year including saturdays game.)

It's nearly over for another year, folks.
BBC v BSHS TSS v ACGS Bye BGS
GT v TGS NC v IGS
My tips for the round:
BBC to pull off an upset
TSS to tie the premiership with Churchie with a home win (?)
Terrace to take TGS down
and IGS to pull off a 30 point win on nudgee

I dont see why? I mean there are afew QABL refs in the league, some very seasoned referees, i mean your never going to win, if your an ABA ref apparently basketball is going down hill, if we dont ref, the standard of refereeing gets bagged (even though it apparently is now when some of us do games?)... How do we win, i mean, i would be happy to pass my games to someone (especially one of the baggers, but i know they wouldnt hack it).

There isnt enough refs out there.

My question to the guy who has seen all the Churchie games, you have seen all there home games, and have seen there refs, which is fine, and its good that you support that, but how can you then make a judgement on every other school, when you have just said you have only seen Churchies home games? What other schools have you gotten out to?

most profeshional refs wouldnt be on a forum talking about their own preformance
most profeshonal refs who actully do a good job wouldnt take any notice of what people on a forum say about them.

Maybe thats true, and its a great place for them to talk crap, but when some of my mates and myself get called scrubs, and the level of refereeing is low, and i disagree, then it just seems right to have a word.

Talking to some people last night and they were saying that the level has been high, and majority have been happy with the standard

And no, i wasnt the ref that said look at the scoreboard. I was the other one :P lol

Either way, the imports at Churchie have no future outside of the place. Next year you'll see them at MacDonald's flipping burgers. Unless of course they get imported to work at KFC. Players that haven't based their entire schooling career around basketball but have still loved the game are the ones that have a future. Which means when I am making the millions, I am going to donate some money to and buy the entire Argentina Youth team. But that's alright because 'they really want a better education.'

Thats funny stuff..

So all you guys hating on Churchie and their 2 "imports" are fine with that fact that the teams below them all have more "imports" than they do? Yes IGS, TSS and BSHS all have imported more players into their firsts than Churchie. It seems it is ok to import as long as you don't succeed.

I highly doubt with your logic mate that you will be "making the millions", more than likely you'll be sweeping those floors at Maccas, hoping one day to get promoted to burger flipper.

Good luck with that

Alright then let me refer to all imports- for any sport. Only a fraction will make any professional team and the ones that don't will wish they spend their entire schooling years focusing on their respective sport. Sorry, just coming from someone who has an OP prediction of a 3- no biggie.

Number one, unless you are an administrator you have no idea who is writing what on here.

Number 2 this is a message board for people to have a bit of fun, you need to chill out and wake up to your self. Have you actually read some of the things said on here about alot of players and teams. The stuff you are carrying on about pails into insignificance. Grow up!

Number 3 If you are from TSS, wonder what you thought of the TSS student sections chants of "Zoomer" and the one about who are taking to the Formal. Personally I thought it was funny as; and the churchie boys took it in their stride. One would assume you will be straight on the phone demanding a tape of the game so you can report it to "the guys who run the program at TSS" Just like the passive comments you seem to find offensive, it was just a bit of harmless fun. Again I say grow up!

Number 4 Were you at the game? What a spectacle, two rivals one goal, a packed stadium, war cries, atmosphere, just what GPS sport should be all about. After the victory the Churchie side were humble, respectful and showed a lot of class. No sign of the "bad winners" you are alluding to on here. They are far and away the best team in the comp in 08 the 12 point win being their closest victory of the season.

Congrats to both teams for a fantastic game and a fitting end to another GPS season.

Just a Question. How many GPS kids play club ball in the BQJBC?

Just a Question. How many GPS kids play club ball in the BQJBC?

On the whole not many.

Grammar/Churchie/Terrace have around 20 teams in the GPS competition, the majority of them do not even play club ball.

On the other hand at BSHS in almost every age group the first team is full of rep players. That's why they consistently win the most premierships in firsts.

Lets look at the Churchies first team that went undeafeated and won the title.
3 state players
4 rep players
3 guys that play club with Churchie

TSS
2 state players
4 rep players
rest play club with TSS

Grammar
2 Rep players
the rest play club with BGS

Hope that helps answer your question?

That's not true about Terrace. Around 15 players in the A/B squad for each age group play club, with usually 4 playing rep. Alot of the opens don't play rep because of the high amount of schoolwork they get.

Just a Question. How many GPS kids play club ball in the BQJBC?

I think more boys than you think play in a school competition; not necessarily GPS. Look at the Brisbane U16 gold team; I would say 8 out of 10 play GPS. At Logan a large number of their boys go to JPC so they would play in whatever competition they are in.

hmmm
27-10-08, 20:34

I agree with the other guy...what are you kids on today? this is "fun"? I'm really worried for the generation coming through atm, with self professed wankers coming on this site moments after winning a gps premiership.
gps sport is about all those things mentioned above...and I think any chat that goes on after the game just takes all that glory away. why don't you go out and celebrate your win with the team, and not with the internet?

Do BSHS have andy back again???

BBC have the guard who has started since like year 9 and about 4 other firsts players.

TSS have 7 of their 10 back from this year - Gullotta, Jaydan, Aden, Nick, Wes, Alex and Tim.... Plus their other 1sts Squad were 4 year 11's - So they look strong.

Churchie lose all bar 2.

And Ipswich lose their famous 'big 3' so they are fucked...

** BSHS have a team of guards with Jim as their only real big
** TSS have strong combination with good bigs in Jaydan, Aden and Nick returning, plus state level guards
** Churchie have best guard in QLD
** BBC have a good all round team

Maybe:
TSS
BSHS
Nudgee / Churchie / BBC
BGS
Ippi
TGS

As for Ippi they will pretty much off the pace they will have a couple of Ippi U18 rep kids and that is it timpley and the little guard jimmy. They will be hanging out and hoping for the 13's from this year to be the next big thing for them but as we all know winning in 13's dont mean squat by the time your in opens. My guess is maybe 5-6 at best in 09 with State High my favs BBC to be good Churchie and TSS to drop a tad but with Coach Palmer and Clacko both will still be good to fight out top 4.

the same amount they beat bbc by. That's terrible, especially when you consider bbc beat terrace by 30.
Plus next year everyone will catch up physically, and they wont have as big an advantage at the PF and C.
Besides, they beat Terrace by 30 when 3 of their starting five had been sick almost all week, so that makes up for about 20 of those points, even though one of their sick guys still put in an awesome effort to go for a double double.

Oak Hill Academy don't recruit..you have NO idea!! Please!!!

The American high school system is rampant with Prep and private schools like Oak Hill that heavily recruit players from all over the USA and overseas. There are even plenty of Aussies attending Prep schools all over the USA, and guess what? Most were recruited, shame on them!!

If you are going to make statements try and make sure they somewhat resemble the truth!

Back on the topic- for the kid that thought he knew everything about american highschool despite never visiting on in his life- read this you fool:
http://prepsports.stltoday.com/ssi/prep/stories2008.nsf/basketball-boys/story/60647CBA4BF9E54C8625746700092177?OpenDocument

Oh they got stripped for recruiting- that of course means it doesn't happen.

If this was in place in GPS, nudgee would have no rugby titles and Churchie would have their basketball title taken away among others

I think it's a pretty defeatest arguement about imports. It has been happening in private school sports forever. Kids want to play on winning teams and if they can get into a nice school at the same time, saving their parents some money then best of luck to them.

My concern however is where coaches / schools choose to play their teams and how they play them.

In the 80's and 90's, schools like Marist Brothers Ashgrove, St Peters offered scholarships to Pacific Islanders to attend their school and play Rugby and Basketball. The main difference was that these schools never played their best "import" teams in standard school competition. If you played these schools you were playing their 2nd, or so, team, which generally comprised of the best the school had to offer. The first team would support the "2nd" team on game days, play in grade competition, play against touring teams and other "first" teams. These teams would also compete in competitions such as McDonalds Cup etc.

In more recent Times, schools have recruited more locally. From memory it was Southern Cross (Clontarf), that offered locals scholarships and grade 12 over 3 years so students could train each day and still have time to complete their work adequately. Their opening years produced 80% of the QLD team. However, when they played in local school competition their roster had many changes from their full strength team, which also played in grade competition.

From what I have seen JPC have done similar things and shown plenty of humility while recruiting a high percentage of the states best players. In the last decade, I have seen Hendo run his bench extensively and try many different plans; while not embarrassing teams by 100pts.

So with this in mind, my addition to the conversation is that I cannot see the point in turning up for a normal round of basketball with a team of 18 year olds who have been recruited specifically to beat up on 15-16 yr olds who want to represent their school.

So to all the haters, try having some self-pride, congratulating your opposition and supporting your fellow basketball players whether they be U/13 or 2nds or Open A. It is a game after all and you might even make some cool friends instead of walking around pretending you're the biggest hero alive.

If he goes to Runcorn he will get some coaching from Sid both game and individual which from what I was told never happened at Ippi this year.

Denzel can go to Runcorn play ball with a better coach and learn more then take that back to GBL or D League if that is what he what he is doing.

I can gurantee you that Ipswich Grammar do plenty of individual practice. Since term 1. And I know for a fact they have already started weights and shooting 3 times a week for next season as well as continuing to play in the Ipswich local club league.

I do not know how often Denzel turned up to the individuals at ippy but was told they did run 2-4 a week plus everyday in the holidays.

For the top teams i.e this year Churchie, TSS, IGS and BSHS it makes each game cutthroat. One loss can wreck 4-5 months work. Or even years in the case of a team coming up from grade 9 and then losing in grade 12.

You have to dominate everyone, all 8 games. That is the beauty of the GPS.

What we should encourage is the schools to play in other leagues, cups and tournaments along the way, not make the GPS season longer. I know that our team played 8 GPS Games, 6 games at schools and then 2 extra games. So 14, there is usually a old boys game in there too. which puts it at 15.

i agree with this statement.
from what ive heard n seen, ippi is goin to have a very crapppy team next year.
i saw their 16A's team play, n they are a bunch of individuals who think they run
the place.

if denzel is serious about basketball n really wants to improve, he should go to runcorn
where he would be coached by good coach who would have time for him. ippi wouldnt be doing him any favours. he would just get frustrated.

and im sure that most people would agree with that

lets talk about someone worth talkin about
someone who perhaps doesnt waste his talent.

but since were on the topic:
if you ask me, i recon that denzel is a waste.
he has the potential to be a really dominant player
but he doesnt put in the extra efforts.
some people would kill to have natural talent,
but hes to stupid to see that.
ive seen him play alot an SOMEthings that
he does u think holly crap this kid is good.
just imagine if he actually put in the work ethic.

Mollison. Easy choice. Shame he couldn't reel off a dunk in a game. But that's not as bad as Malloy not getting a dunk. He's 6'8" for crying out loud!

RAR COLLLLLEYYYYY! lets see u dunk in gr 12?

alex watson is nothing special
argon is a solid player, who can score, should be good to watch next year- see what making the firsts does to his attitude.

From what i've seen Alex is a bit of a hog. Argon can score but doesn't help on D.

Is state high a serious chance for premiership in 09?

State High would have to be the early favourites, Churchie, BBC and TSS will be in the mix too. The rest will be fighting for pride and to not let TGS come off the bottom of the table for the second (?) or so year in a row.
