TD2 cruised home with a 50-something to 20-something win against a gutsy PNR tonight.. Despite facing a full court man on man D for the entire game, TD2 got up early and never looked like slowing up.

and the nigra hit 2 treys.

Seriously. and everyone's roflcopter went soi soi soi soi soi

Wizards are playing their first two QABL games this weekend. Saturday night at Auchenflower, and Sunday arvo at Boondall. I'll be at both in case anyone else wants to come with.

we lost by 4 to pistons... everybody seemed to be a bit off tonight, damn that bye week last wednesday. next week I think we're up at 7:50 against either the reds or stealth

TD1 by ~25 over HammerTime.

Was a pretty even game (with us playing like trash) through to the second quarter, then Tom knocked some guy out leaving them with 4. Then Peter Vaigh threw a "b j p vs D mill 2002" style rant at the refs before being ejected. The unconscious dude made a recovery to leave them with 4 for the 2nd half. We skipped away albeit with me having 15 or so turnovers to TwoGuns delight.

Lulz. I thought you guys were supposed to play Jets though?

Athletes have pulled out from Mens 1. They did a reshuffle which gave the Jets a bye and we played HammerTime @ 7. Thank god, I was never going to make a 930 game. Southern Cross come into the competition next week which will add more starch to the Mens 1 competition.

I'm keen to hit up one of the QABL games too. Maybe the Sunday afternoon one as the boys will be at a wedding and i'll be looking for things to do.

Ahh nice.. I haven't seen him since he tossed in the towel on reffing and settled back to have kids & be domesticated. Ego still as big as ever?

I like the guy, always have. He's a good referee and a good player. I don't know what you can call ego, he was right about everything he was saying before and after he got ejected. I can only sympathise with him. There are rules like technical fouls and ejection in basketball for that reason though and he wore both of them.

You let me know if you think Steve Leong and whoever that new tubby guy is are suitable Mens A referees (note: I like both Steve and the other guy and I don't think the quality of play is anything that should resemble Mens A)

I think we go ok with what we've got on Wednesday nights. We would be able to attract better officials if it was not for the clash with GBL every week.

Oh - don't get me wrong brad - I like pete and agree with you that he's a good player & ref (before he settled down to play homemaker).. He's always had a fairly healthy ego to go with it, that's all :)

Funny you mention the tech & DQ rules, we had a game tossed out @ brendale on wednesday night because a player felt that we only DQ'd him from the game, not from the stadium. Needless to say, we were all bamboozled by his logic on the matter.

Wednesday's situation was that Cam steam rolled him and he got called for blocking. It was probably one of the easiest charge/block situations you're ever likely to have. Peter said something like "you've gotta be bloody kidding me" got hit with a tech. Then he said something like "that's fucking bullshit mate" and got thrown. He walked to the bench to collect his things etc and was taking his time. Referee told him to leave and he started quoting the rule book about having 1min to gather his things. Referee then started yelling to John Taylor to come over to eject him. JT comes over, starts throwing his weight around. Peter tells JT the referee needs to learn the rules... that fires JT up who tells him to leave, he's been ejected. Peter tells JT the rules say he has a minute to leave. JT says something like I don't care, get your things and leave.... blah blah blah....

Probably deserved a tech and told to shutup. Ref saw it to throw him, sure, his call. The rest was just a shambles. If the club was keen on developing referees they should be having training sessions each month for those keen and providing a free bbq or pizzas for an hour session. I'm sure senior referees would help out and it wouldn't be hard to find guest speakers like a police officer to speak on how to deal with people yelling at you, or similar...

I'm with you there too.. Although in a social comp (even A grade) like that, I probably would've told him to zip it & play the whistle instead of tossing the first tech - especially if I knew I'd fucked up the call they were complaining about.

I can't talk too loudly though, I used to be the worst offender in the world for tossing people for minor stupid things like that. Still think I hold the record for the most DQs at Pine Rivers...

The other ref on your game brad was steve chandler.

Personally, I think this is a great idea. A lot of the younger guys simply don't know how to deal with conflict situations, and when they are thrown in the deep end (ie some men's basketball, rep, etc), they are lost and don't know how to proceed. Sessions in how to deal with agro coaches or fired-up players could go a long way in furthering Wizards' reputation as one of the best associations referee-wise around south Queensland.

I wouldn't have tech'd him or thrown him either, but that's not up to us as we weren't reffing the situation. The referee felt the need to so I respect that.

I've never thrown anyone. I've been ejected twice. Once by Dave because I lost the plot, deserved the thrown. 2nd was actually by a court supervisor after I retaliated to a 3rd party throwing blind punch at my team mate (tim hughes) when he was having a chesty chesty with another guy. Said punch thrower ended up on his ass about 3m from where he was standing and Roy ran onto the court and told me to leave. lulz

Well the issue here is that there are not enough experienced refs on wednesday night. this is mostly due to GBL. however i do see this as a positive for us. having a semi social competition where some of the new refs can get some experience with mens games. yes there will be mistakes made but along with mistakes there will be impovement.

there are a couple refs who have improved a hell of a lot in the last season. which is both good for them personally and the association. yeah it sucks getting calls against you that are wrong... but in the learning process it is to be expected.

I have asked peter vigh to come back and ref. it would be great to have another referee that has as much experience as peter to come and ref a game a week and possibly even evaluate a game. all the help and advice would be welcomed.

I think having Pete ref would be great. But he'd need to read the rule book... You only have 30 seconds after a DQ :P

The rules may have changed since Peter last reffed?? I thought it used to be minute too once you were ejected? Hwn did you guys see him ref his last game?

Someone care to point out where the rule about 30 seconds to leave the stadium is? I've been over the rulebook & ref's guide and it's not mentioned anywhere.

A team has 30 seconds to substitute a fouled out/DQ'd player, but there's no mention of how long they have to leave the playing area/goto the change room.

And as for mr. vigh, last time I saw him reffing was around when I last did GBL - so probably 4-5 years back?

Ah, I think that he has only been out from reffing for a couple of years............3 at the most I believe. From memory it was about a year after his son was born, hence one of the reasons he decided to stop reffing.
