Good to see basketball is in such a good state where no one is interested in U14 teams and the future of these basketballers.
No one in Queensland has results posted! Nothing.
I did hear that Cairns Dolphins cleaned up, but nothiing else.
Am I the only one interested in these kids?

i am very interested in any of the u14 girls and boys results at TON.
Especially when teams in the south are trying to create their own games until classics in July

Expect teams from the south to get dominated at classics. It seems that the long season has taken its toll with the GC carnival having to be cancelled due to lack of teams interested. Just how does the south teams think they are going to be competetive with lack of match practice?
My Tip North team will win classics.

Only 2 realistic chances at classics for the girls.
Cairns who dominate the north.
Logan who willdominate the south with the addition of another state player from Runaway Bay.

So much for team loyalty!

Isn't Shane Heal a good enough coach for her?

Who did she bump out of the original Logan team?

Unfortunately GC wanted to hold the carnival over 2 Saturdays.... most associations are into their championship seasons which for U14's are on Saturdays as well. I know at Logan it meant that a couple of teams would have to forfeit if they were to play the carnival.... Too expensive as a forfeit means you have to pay the game fees of the opposing team as well as your own team. I can understand the parents baulking at that plus then having to pay the game fees for the carnival.

Very interesting to hear what is happening down south!
With the downfall of ITCP in North QLD where will the next generation of players come from?
When the BA paper on the state of the nation regarding NBL, BA, ABL and ITC/Junior champs was published a few months ago, I noticed that the head coach of ITCP was basking in glory that the ITCP program came out well, but what has happened in North Queensland? No kids, no scholarships, no future?
I started this post as a question as to who are our future basketballers from the north and I am getting apathy, both from the North and the South is saying they are stuffed as well!
As a parent who has had basketball chosen for them by their kids, I have to ask the question, "Why do we bother with basketball?"
I read in the paper last week that Andrew Bogut had made some comments as to our Olympic team and he was shut down in the same article.
How can basketball have a future in Australia when our only player at the highest level in the world makes a comment and no one wants to listen?
Even a simple question as to who are good in TON goes unnoticed?
How are we going to get future players going "All The Way" either Boomer, Opal, NBL, NBA, WNBL, WNBA if we don't encourage, nurture, guide all generations of players?
Basketball or any other sport is now a career option for our kids. If they are good at anything, parents exploit the talent that the kid has, whether it be mathematics, science, engineering, business or even basketball. Not every kid who shows promise at anything will progress to the top, but the journey helps them in life anyway.
Basketball is going through a tough time, we have to all be positive, parents, coaches, state coaches and national coaches and administrators.
Yes we have 2 good national teams, the girls are #1 and we have a large number of bench players for that team for a number of years. The Guys look good on paper, but I think will only be top 10 come August, we just don't have the depth required to beat the Europeans and we have a very limited bench for the next few years.
So back to my original question, who are the future players from NQ? Or are we going to be as lethargic as we have been?

I very good point in regards to the future of basketball in Qld, but why stop there, what about the game nationally? With the Kings and Bullets experiencing financial difficulties, and the prospect of teams not competing in the NBL, surely now is time for the game to be evaluated at all levels.
It wasn't that long ago that the powers to be promoted the concept that if Sydney won a title it would help take the NBL to another level. What crap!
We see the same thing from BQ, invest a lot of energy and resources towards the south/east corner, as this is the growth area of Qld.
Surely we need a vision that emcompasses the entire state and ensures the promotion and development of the sport at all levels.
I know this will spark off the debate of north and south, but actually what I'm saying is we need BQ to take a more wholesome approach towards promoting and developing this game throughout.
We need people who can see past the south/east corner and have the interest of all basketball loving people.
At the end of the day we are all involved in this sport because of our love for it, it is this reason why I am concerned about the future.
Our womens team has been far more successful then Netball, but our management hasn't been able to secure what netball has with television coverage, why?
Our NBL was one of the first sports to go nationally, so why is it that we are continually finding less and less people supporting the game.

If you are really that interested, go along and watch the northern teams.
Don't expect them to declare their goods and chattels before they arrive! There are National spots up for grabs.
Anything that is written here is just an individuals thoughts - doesn't mean it is correct or not.
It is not what is on this forum that determines the future - it is what is developed and can be produced on game day.
If you are interested, I would suggest the Northerners will catch up with you classic time.
Enjoy !!!

Boys TON - Townsville went through the TON undefeated although Cairns and Mackay both pushed them at times. Cairns ended up second and macky finished third.
Townsville - has a great team no real standout players just a good solid team that plays great together and works very hard in defence.
Cairns - Have some big tall boys who are not afraid to get dirty and a great tactical coach watch out for this team.
Mackay - This team have great potential but are yet to hit there straps, they never give in and always put in 100%
What about the teams from South who are front runners??

Ipswich is the best team. They play some good pressure defences. They have some bigs who board well and run the floor well and a very clever and skillful point guard.
Southern Districts have loads of talent, their bigs are improving rapidly and have some good guards. One of the bigs is also athletic and can shoot consistently from outside the paint. One of their medium size players can be very strong on the drive to the hoop but he comes off the bench in a lot of games
Brisbane have two bigs and their guards are solid. Ghee is tough
South West have a talented guard who can do it all and a solid group of players around him
Logan have a depth of good guards but only have one real forward. They have one player who leads from the front and they all play hard.
Each team has beaten each other at some point, however Ipswich have been the most consistent team. The other teams in the south are capable of causing an upset on their day.
