Rob, I would ditch the idea of getting ankle braces. I don't know your exact condition (so don't disregard professional medical advice) but once you start wearing them, you will always depend on them. My suggestion would be to make sure your ankle is strong enough to take basketball loads on its own; not with braces.

When I broke my ankle I started to wear them but I found that they didn't really prevent injury. Not until I stopped using them, eased up on the basketball and strengthened my ankles did I stop getting ankle problems. Yoga is great exercise for doing that.

High cut shoes, and strapping for abit if you need it. Agreed with Slinger, braces tend to weaken the ankle, a brace is a good thing to wear when healing (to keep swelling down) but you start to rely on it, ankles are good that if its just a roll or a sprain, they will start to heal themselves quicker each time, unless you break something or get a bone spur... i would just strap it the first few weeks your back, wearing a high cut shoe, and when your comfortable to play without strapping do so.

Rob,

Another good reason to do yoga is that the classes are full of flexible young women. But that's just a bonus.
