Vale out after surgery (http://www.cairns.com.au/article/2008/05/21/3994_local-sport-news.html)
© The Cairns Post

DWAYNE Vale will miss the rest of the Queensland Australian Basketball League season after having surgery on his troublesome ankle yesterday.

Vale injured his ankle just days before the Cairns Taipans' NBL quarter-final in February but had expected to be able to play the off-season for the Marlins in the QABL.

But with the injury continuing to flare after limited minutes in a few games for the Marlins, he consulted doctors last week who found a couple of small fractures in his ankle.

Taipans chief executive Denis Keeffe said Vale had surgery in Townsville yesterday and would be out for the next eight to 12 weeks.

"It'll be good for him to have an off-season after a couple of years playing right through (NBL and ABA)," Keeffe said. "At the worst, he'll come back and start early August."

Vale had an outstanding ABA season last year, helping the Marlins to the national title and using the competition as a springboard for a successful NBL campaign.

He was elevated from the Taipans' development list during the year and rewarded for his efforts with a new contract.

But the frustration at not knowing how long his ankle would take to heal or exactly what was wrong with it was eating at him.

should be a good game against gold coast,

sucks for townsville getting northside on the backend of there tripple I bet they would have rather played there first, tough tripple will be cold up on the mountin for the heat

dezafitz show no longer thats a cruel blow for mackay fans an teammates alike, i doubt its going to be all over like sum are saying... anyway heres the tips of the round from the lips that are brown...

Ippy v Heat
another long trip for heat lucky they fly this time, they have played a lit inconsistent but Hervey Bay have not shown enough to warrant me spending my soft-earned cash on them cedars an goodie will be tough to stop... $30 on Heat
heat 3:1 Ippy 7:1

Twmba v Heat
the cowboys on the other hand have surprised a few teams, heat will be a lit tired and the mountain is as cold as a penguins foot this time of year.. this could be a close one $10 on heat..
heat 3:1 neers 4:1

Bulls v Caps
well its not really a grudge match but i dont think V-dog would mind showing up his successor in this one... Bulls have sum players that can get them home they just need them to do it at the same time for this game... im sitting on the fence an puttin $1 on each..
bulls 1.1:1 Caps 1.1:1

Rocky v Mets
first big test since losing Fitz see how they cope against no.1 seed of the comp... deb an zane an human tank can still score enough for them to win, but rocky at home this year is like trying to fight grizzly bear wit a tooth pick... $20 on rocky
Rocky 3:1 Mets 5:1

Clips v thunder
i would love to be put some money clips but like they said its a developement time for them and the kids they got have got game so in a few yrs this year should pay off well... $30 on Thunder
Thunder 3:1 clips 10:1

Pirates v Goannas
well if your a gambling man you gota look at this game an think surely Pirates cant keep up the winning streak.. i got $20 that says they can dont let me down boys..
SW 3:1 GC 5:1

Power v Mets
Zane Mehl is yet to lose at the powerhouse ever... lucky for us thats all about to change.. rocky will run them into ground.. an then blair is going to go old school on their bigs and get a triple double u heard it here first folks.. $50 on Power
Power 3:1 Mets 4:1

Wiz v Heat
three games in one weekend im pretty sure the human body is not meant to endure that sort of pain.. especially wen your 3rd game is against the Wiz who look to be favs to come 2nd this season... trig will be all over heats tired bigs for at least 30.. $30 on Wiz
Wiz 2:1 heat 5:1

Suns v Logan
logan will hope their bench can get clips on satnite give them a chance to rest up b4 takin on the hot Suns... home court advantage with alot confidence means logan have their hands full with the Slim Crew. be good game to watch with a few dunks with both of these teams if they are hot your in trouble.. im puttin $20 on Suns to be that team
Suns 3:1 Logan 5:1

They seemed to play a lot better without these guys. Could it be the locals might be better than those HB throw aways :D

Locals did a great job, but they still had one HB throw away in Wello... made two huge comebacks, if they stop getting in massive holes they might win a few games

pirates beat goldy by 14. 138 to 124 in quadruple overtime. was an amazing game. big shot after big shot! troy thompson was amazing as was jc, teys chimed in well too with some massive buckets. aucoin had a huge game and kept the goannas right there. when he fouled out that was the ballgame. matt zauner struggled BIG time against the pirates quick guards, could not do a thing right the whole game, he will get better as the season goes on and when he faces bigger guys he can match up on. overall great game to watch

Bundy went down to Capitals 107 - 88. Bundy played very ordinary. Vdogg has to breathe a little life into his team, turnovers and missed shot a downfall. Keirnan, Ellis and Cann not on their game Jay Anderson a standout for Bundy.

Crocs cast eyes over youngster (http://www.townsvillebulletin.com.au/article/2008/05/24/13354_sport.html)

HE'S big, he's strong and he could be on his way to the Townsville Crocodiles.

Steven Broom, a 205cm forward or centre, headed north this week for a secret trial with the NBL club as they look to fill their Young Australian Player position on their roster.

The 20-year-old, who is playing for Logan in the Queensland Australian Basketball League, has the attributes – mainly size – wanted by the Crocs.

It is understood he performed strongly in the trial at the Crocs club on Wednesday, but
a decision on whether to recruit him has not been made.

zane looking very fit and hitting some tough shots having to play the point and not getting the ball back as much as he should, obviously kingma out was a big loss but a really good game.

cedar dropped 53 up range and then backed it up with 41 against northside to cause an upset win over the wizards he has got to be a good look at player of the week,

I saw most of the second half. Down by 11 at the half, the Wizards shot out of the blocks and quickly took a 3-point lead thanks largely to triples from SD, Woody and Diesel. It went pear-shaped thereafter. Townie choked up the Wizards' dribble and scored a swag of points from ensuing fast breaks. Mick Cedar found his range and banged in a few threes to help seal the deal. First time I have seen Chris Cedar in about 4 years, and am impressed at how he has come along. Wizards found wanting on the bench, with the Hamilton brothers both sitting out due to injuries. Lacking a spare ball handler as well, which is where Youngie would be REAL handy if he was available to play. After being in great form for the last few weeks, was disappointing to see Dante revert back to his selfish ways. Needed to give that damn rock up, particularly to Trigger! Not sure what happened there. I did note however that Townie had an eye on Trigs wherever he went in the post, and was receiving instant double teams whenever the ball found him. Goody looked super tired from the three day ordeal, but wasn't required to do too much with the guard getting the job done.

Finally the Pirates get the stats online but still it can't be right. You are telling me Aucion had 2 DR in total and 16 overall!!!! Come on officials this is disgusting. He had about 20 DR in the 4 OTs. What game were you all watching??? This needs to be double checked. Reward the players.

As crazy as this sounds, Aucoin had close to 40 rebounds in this one. He played 64 minutes, which is easy to work out as he didnt get subbed and fouled out with four minutes to go in the fourth OT. It is a testament to his fittness that he was able to play at such a high level for so long and yet there are no NBL scouts who will be particularly impressed with his listed 16 rebounds against a top of the table team. Its a disgrace.

While I'm here, major kudos to the Pirates, definately deserved to win and on that form are a real chance to win it all, Rocky beware!!

Well let's hope, for Aucoin's sake, someone in the Pirates admin are approached by the Goannas management for a copy of the game to confirm these stats as we all know what the result will be.... QABL heads should also take some responsibility. No doubt we will see this happening to other dominant players throughout the season otherwise.

40 rebounds? wow i was at the game and i must of missed 20 of those. i would say he had more than 16 but 25 at most, which is still an amazing effort. he flat out carried them the whole game! 45 points would be right, in the stats. Jason looks extremely fit, the fittest he has ever looked and obviously been working extremely hard. still looks a bit like a tweener in the 3 and 4 spots for the nbl. correct stats or not unfortunately for guys like himself teys goulding neisler, those cusp nbl guys may be found wanting for a few years with the kings and bullets set to fold and there be atleast 16 quality nbl proven guys lookin for jobs.

Well the season is still young(ish) but SWM have been a surprise packet and from what I have heard/seen look good. Coastal its great to see some serious ball Jett seems great in this league but will be interesting to see how he goes as the season goes on.

Bundy and Gladdy are both down a bit on what I expected, with Bundy it may just take some time to gel, no offence 2 Cents but I reckon you guys are a few horses short of really competing and that will prob undo Bundy as well.

Have townsville turned a bit of a corner after the weekend and with Mackay wothout Fitzy who knows. Cairns without Vale now and a slow start has the FNQ dominance come to an end?

Ippi and the Dore are done for the year but Ippi should and I say should with there roster cause some upsets later in the season if they pull there heads in and play/train as a team.

Wizards hopefully they played their worse game of the season against T'ville and if your guard/team cant get the ball to Trigger then run some subs. I think the lesson will have been learned by caoches and players alike (I hope).

Just my ramblings any other comments from the intelligent and knowlegable people of BenDoes World.................

You are right, you must have missed the other 20 because 40 would definitely be on the money. A tweener....hahahaha. He would still be one of the stongest, if not the strongest in the QABL, and not really that small for a 3 man in the NBL. Still laughing at tweener!!!! im glad I could make you laugh. Do you know what a tweener is? I dont think you do. which pretty much sums up your basketball knowledge (or lack there of). Maybe you think tweener is some form of weak player? (as your reference to him being one of the strongest guys in the qabl) A tweener is actually someone who is in between positions. Not quite quick enough(and handle) to be a 3 and not big enough to be a 4 is what it means. Its not a shot at him at all like I think YOU think it is. Jason doesnt need you getting on a msg board for him. He lets his game do the talking. ONce again I'm glad I made you laugh but I think you are a little confused and should just stick to what you know (which is not basketball)

Jason is one of the most unstoppable guys in the QABL and has been very good for a number of years. At the next level its about body type where everyone is as big and athletic as jase. Not how much you can beat up the frontline of the mighty pirates which is a zone with a backline of troy thompson jc and brendan teys. You will find nbl frontlines a little more imposing. Guys, getting away from the games themselves who would you have in a six-man dunk contest ?

Here's mine:

Michael Chitham (Cairns), Deba George & Josh Jenkins (Mackay), Steven Broom (Logan), Ty Davidson (Gold Coast) and Brian Jett (Caloundra)

I think George would come out the winner cos he is by far the smallest leaper. Jenkins and Chitham are two young swingers that can fly though

i was at the game. Aucoin did not have 40 rebounds. i'm sorry but if someone gets 40 boards in a game, everybody in the stadium would notice it. Stats people may miss a few rebounds, but they're not missing 24 of them! Plenty of people were talking about his scoring though and he really carried the team. I thought Zauner did a great job too. At one stage, he was the focus of the offence and he stepped up late in the game.

As for Aucoin in the NBL, well, he's been at a couple of clubs now and I hope he starts to get more opportunities. I first saw him play when he was with Mackay and thought he looked like a potential NBL player, but that was seven years ago now and someone needs to give him the minutes to show what he can do soon. All the NBL clubs know about him by now and they know what he can do, so i'm not sure they'll be too worried about some whacky stats in one game.

Imagine how Jason Cameron feels! he dropped 30-odd points ... he's the player/coach of the home team and his name isn't even on the stats!!! If anyone should strangle the stats people, it's him!

Yes we are re-doing the stats and resubmitting them to the league.

We have had problems with the stats software and actually statted the game 3 times now.....

Obviously we want the game to reflect the true statistics as we consider this , the feeder program to the NBL.
