Round 11
Northside v Gladstone
Northside are back at home and after eating like kings on the road last weekend have to come back down to earth to their sandwiches and watered-down powerade. Are Gladstone still dressing up on road trips? Love the effort if they are, keep it real. Iwanicki is starting fires with his play instead of putting them out, and the Wookie will return from a suspension that like Chewbacca didn’t make much sense. Cam T, Dante and SD to go off as usual but this may be a good game to try and get some other guys going if they want to be serious contenders.
Northside by 27
Bundaberg v Marrochydore
The Real Slim Shady continued his red hot form last week with 48, but his sidekick Bizarre has left town. The Clips are travelling so bad Hedges is starting to go bald, and Colby Stefanovic has extended his range to half-court this season. The brightest light for the Clips has been Jamie Stow who has played like Superman. Bundy miss the old boys Cato and Beatle Juice Parry leading from the front. C’mon boys you can’t say your too old Richo is still going. Steve Morris to get loose on the bus home.
Maroochydore by 6
Caboolture v Brisbane
Andrews and Benny Mac stepped up big last weekend and will need to do the same again. This Caps team is a serious contender IMHO, and they seem to be getting better every week. If Dusty plays this could get ugly, which isn’t a shot against the Suns I just think the Caps are hitting the sort of form that should scare pretty much everyone other than Rocky and Cairns. I have officially resigned as president of the ‘Hating Heath Gameron Club’. Still maintain he was overrated in Logan, but looks tough as hell this year.
Brisbane by 40
Ipswich v Gold Coast
Ryan Jefferies will freeze the D with blue steel and now that Tommy Sullivan has freed the T he is a new man. The Darragh boys and Aucoin to argue from the tip-off after Aucoin wins the tap and it goes to Josh instead of Adam. Drewy Waite in a handicap match vs Stolberg and Lloyd for the after game food the highlight of this one. Ipswich could actually get this one but they won’t.
Goldy by 10
Mackay v South West
Can someone let these Mackay boys just go out and play its frustrating to watch this team that had so much promise go down the toilet (although losing Fitz was the biggest problem.) Let Zane and Deba run and gun and Rasmussen will benefit from it too, while Miles should destroy the Pirates inside. Deba, put ball in hoop! South West efficient as always will do what it takes with Niesler and Teys leading the way. JC will turn it on if he needs to and Eathorne has taken over from Oriad as the beast of the league. Seriously, protein or roids?
South West by 9
Rockhampton v South West
South West can’t really expect to get this one after playing a solid Mackay team the night before but as long as they get 1 this weekend they are still on track. Gotta love the atmosphere up in Rocky and Mackay, so hostile but really gives the place a lot of energy. JC may be pumped up by the crowd and take over but no matter what he does it won’t be enough to get Rocky in Rocky. Rhys to put on a clinic, but am I being too harsh if I say I expected more from Weigh? 7/22 for 16 points last week, just doesn’t seem to be dominating like a NBL player should. Richo 1/1.
Rocky by 16
Logan v Gladstone
Kingma seems to have slowed down a little, but will still be a good test for Broom. If you’re preparing this guy for the NBL let him guard Kingma 1 on 1 for 48 minutes. Appears to me the difference between Logan being an elite team and a mid-level team is what they get out of Meyerding. Gureckis spots up, Broom does his thing inside, Ammar has his role and it all goes though Thalo who is a machine. Meyerding is used to having the ball in his hands after playing at Bundy last year and other than his big 35 point game has struggled to find a steady role, if they can increase his productivity Logan can go top 4. Stale subway for all!

Stevie on his Weigh to Perth (http://www.themorningbulletin.com.au/storydisplay.cfm?storyid=3776772)
ROCKHAMPTON Stadium Nightclub Rockets star Stephen Weigh is heading west after signing a three-year deal with NBL giants the Perth Wildcats yesterday.

Tribe is 38 years 'young' (http://www.thechronicle.com.au/storydisplay.cfm?storyid=3776767)
TOOWOOMBA Mountaineers forward Anthony Tribe may be 38 but he still wants to "be like Mike".
After a three year absence from the court Tribe made his return in the 2008 pre-season, only to be put out of action for another six weeks when he sustained injuries requiring a knee cartilage operation.
HAHAHAHA that was one of the best previews I've ever read. Funny on so many levels. Love the Beetlejuice and handicap match comments ROFL.
Also enjoyed reading the Anthony Tribe article. He has been a favourite of mine to watch for years.

just looking at gladstones results last week and simanic did not play as well as kingma, they did well to be competative without those 2 who avg 42 points a game combined. Is simanic playing this week? close games this weekend for them I think, Kingma will be killing to get back on the court and against CamT, I just hope the refs let them play, By far the best big match up in aba.
No.1 Hiphop single in Moldova this week is Return of the Wook by DJ Mike Byrnes (sang to the tune of Return of the Mack) my bookie Oleg absolutely loves it... he had it playin in the background on repeat while he gave me this weeks odds...
Bulls v Clips
Vdogg will be hoping to celebrate his B'day with their 2nd win, but clips have to be looking at their best chance to get the losing spider monkey off their back.. both teams need it like troy needs to get rid of the evidence... $2 on Bundy
Bundy 1:1 Clips 1.2:1
Mkay v SW
at the start of the season some ppl thought these teams would be in opposite positions on the ladder by now.. JC will love it but interesting to see how the young team goes playing in front of a real crowd not like those small quiet southern ones they are used too... $5 on SW
SW 2:1 Mkay 4:1
NS v Power
Cam T v Wookie easily the best match-up this round if not the year.. not only do their names rhyme.. but during game time.. whoever plays best.. their team will win the contest.. (how do i come up with this stuff) anyway refs usually ruin this match up by calling soft fouls on both players but Wookie to eat Cam T... $1000 on Power
Power 2:1 NS 4:1
Suns v Caps
Is Dusty broke or just bored either way im sure the caps aren't complaining... last time they played suns were riding the jet wave so caps be looking for some payback.. the 25 ppl in the crowd may have a good game to watch... $30 on Caps
Caps 2:1 Suns 6:1
Force v Goannas
fight nite at Force stadium this weekend with both of these teams having egos flying everywhere all one of them needs to do is shut up an let the other team implode having a coach helps... $25 on GC
GC 2:1 Ippy 6:1
Rocky v SW
the other day i saw a homeless dude in Rocky with a cardboard sign promoting the rockets thats how much the locals love this team no food just go Rockets... SW will find out all bout that this game... Can Rocky lose in Rocky not this Sunday... $100 on Rocky
Rocky 2:1 SW 7:1
Logan v Power
Last time power played there a massive gal fight broke out an somehow the only person to get in trouble was a Gladstone gal surprising i know... if a fight breaks out this time im hiding behind Chappy he does Karate... $1000 on Power
Power 3:1 Logan 9:1
Oleg only takes your hard earned in Moldovan leus, just turn off the lights an whisper Oleg three times in the mirror he'll appear to take your bets..

Some interesting points:
* Northside have already qualified for the finals.
* No matter who wins in Mackay, the game between Rocky and SW will be for top spot.
* If SW drops both this week and then loose to Northside next week they could drop as low as 6th and be right in the mix of a 4 team fight for the top two spots in Group C.
* If Rocky takes top spot then Townsville only have to win one more game to guarantee a finals spot.

Can anybody give me the word on this NBL Prospects Camp in Melbourne from July 21-23? $300 registration fee and you have to pay your own way, am I being too cynical if I say this just seems like a scheme for Basketball Australia to raise some funds? Nearly every roster spot in the competition is already taken and anybody worth their salt will be approached by the clubs directly so it really does seem like a fundraising tool. Can anybody give me the sneaky insight into who has been invited or is it all confidential? There are apparently 60 players attending the camp from all around Australia so not sure how many of those will be from the QABL. I’m also a bit sceptical of the scouting methods used to decide who attends the camp when guys with untapped potential such as Scott Kenny, Ryan Jefferies and Kurt Thompson appear to not have been invited? Does anyone else who has been invited to the camp want to share their thoughts?
Signed,
Player invited but will likely not be attending

I think you would be mad to miss the camp if you are a young and up and coming player,
Its about exposure to be seen by NBL Coaches/scouts allegedly amongst the top 60 prospects.Especially if you think you would be competetive, I imagine some of the younger players that you will be competing against would be the boys from the AIS ,Depending on how old you are and what position you would be competing for you can guage where you would be at if you have played against or with these boys before
P/G- Jorden
S/G- S/F - Christian
S/G-S/F- Clint

and what about the womens sides????
Here are my previews for the womens games this weekend.
Bundaberg v Maroochy - The Maroochy girls to bounce back here after a close loss to the Pirates last week. This game is massivley important to the Clippers who are trying to hold off the Suns for the top place in the Central pool. Bundaberg with little or nothing going on for the Bears so i will go the Clippers by 20.
Mackay v South West - Mackay to face their first big test in a long time in this game. Wilson has undoubtably been the league MVP here but this is the start of a tough run home for Mackay with games against Gold Coast, Logan, Maroochydore and Townsville to follow. Although SW may struggle to contain Wilson i think Mackay may struggle to contain Parsons. I am going with South West in a close one here as i reckon they have more to play for in the battle for south playoff spots. Pirates by 3
Caboolture v Brisbane - If Caboolture want to be any chance of hosting a quarter final they must get games like this one. Brisbane have been terrible at best this season. Now that Emma had moved on, or was it got booted (by the way who really cares how it happened) have the Brisbane girls got any fight. Shame we wont see the Warren girls going head to head. Caboolture by 10 here.
Ipswich v Gold Coast - Unfortunately for Ipswich i see there girls being far from a force in this one. Gold Coast too big and too strong with the two headed monster of Abbott and Stubbs. With Abele back into the line-up are these guys the ones to challenge Townsville in the post-season? Gold Coast should win this by 25 if they are serious.
Northside v Gladstone - Two of the worst teams in the league here going head to head. I would like to say something promising about either of these teams but it is hard to come up with anything. Northside by 6 simply because they are playing at home.
Rockhampton v South West - The Rocky girls would be starting to get desperate for victories to try and push into the last play-off spot in the northern group. The cyclones have been very dissapointing so far this year considering their roster. If i am tiping the Pirates to get Mackay I think that they might get the road double. South West by 10.
Logan v Gladstone - Logan will be looking to keep re-building their confidence after the couple of losses midseason. It will be a long bus trip home for the Gladstone girls after being belted in this game. Will be a good guide for stronger teams as to how Logan goes against the zone since that is all that Gladstone play.

Just to help you understand "how come sw are on top", they are on top because they have won the most games and lost the least .... weird concept to understand i know, but that is your answer to how come they are on top ! Hope that helps out your understanding.
Rockets and Pirates game today should be a good one and will almost determine which pool gets the extra playoff spot.

everyone knows why south west are on top, because they've turned up everynight to play.they've been lucky with a couple of games but good on them, hope they get top spot and then a towny or cairns won't make the finals.sw can definately get rocky, but it might not happen, still not the end of their chance for top spot if they lose.

That reads like it's written by a Mackay fan. Looking at the boxscores, Mackay has brought in Zane Meehl, Miles Pearce, Deba George and lost Fitzy to injury. That's a pretty decent trio (given Fitzy is out) so they'll win their share of games.
Maybe Pirates will lose to Rocky, but i'm sure their lives will go on. No one expected them to be near the top of the ladder at this stage of the season so I guess they'll just go about their business, win or lose

Totally agree, how annoying is that? Although there is some sort of disclaimer at top page regarding the working or not of live stats.... Great when it does work though!
Must say I feel for those teams playing anywhere between 0200 and 0800 as stated on the live stats page, not to mentoin their fans wanting to watch the live stats ;)
And how bad is the new QABL League Forum - I think if people could register anonymously with a pseudonym there would be much more interest ("You agree to provide true, accurate, current and complete information about yourself as prompted by the mySport registration form").
Not everyone with pertinent comments wants to be outed on the internet therefore we could be missing out on some very interesting information. Personal details could be known to people who run the boards but not made available to the general public.
Rant over.

"Live Stats " lists Rocky vs. SWM women. Click it on, and you get Rocky vs. WRONG TEAM. SWM Women's score still isn't listed, yet they played before the men, who have their score listed. sloppy on two levels- leagus admin. and whoever has scoring duty for SWM women. My step-daughter texted me that they ( SWM) won by 25 but that was hours ago, and that's all I know.
Why is it SWM women's fault when the game is in Rocky?
"For the 2008 season, the QABL is trialing webcasting of games (that is, broadcasting of statistics to the web live during a game). It's unlikely that this will be working in full swing until 2009, although some games will be webcast this season. As such, some of the links below will work, and some won't. Any link showing last week’s games, means that the statistician has yet to engage the game at hand."
Quote from the QABL website at top of Live stats page.

For the non-technical minded:
The QABL site (which is run by SportingPulse) has got an issue called 'caching'. This means that when you look at a page (site) it will download that page to YOUR computer so you can view it and then leave it there for your next visit.
Now, if a site isn't cached then that page is downloaded EVERY time you visit that same page, but if the page is 'cahed', meaning it is not be deleted from your computers temporary storage, then the next time you visit that page you WILL GET THE OLD PAGE.
The reason for this is to provide faster loading for static pages and lessen the load on the server.
THEREFORE, if you get last weeks game, or if the story on the front page don't match the photo, then you have to tell your browser to refresh the page. To do that you hold down the CTRL key and click refresh (or press F5).
However, as said above, not all games are on live stats.

The UNLV vs QLD Select game looked as though it was going to break open in the second and third quarters, with some hot shooting from the UNLV guys, due in large part to some defensive lapses and turnovers that would be expected of a team that has never played as a unit as was the case with the QLD Select Team. The UNLV guys got it out to as much as 35 in the third quarter after leading by 26 at the half. To the QLD Select groups credit, they dug in and got it back to a 20 point margin in the end, 96-76.
Overall the entire UNLV squad was tough on both ends of the floor, playing a style of ball that should be admired, and one which should be emulated by young kids trying to go down that path in their basketball careers.
The UNLV guys where tough in the lane defensively due to excellent physical conditioning. They where strong with the ball and on the glass. They shot the ball with confidence, strength, consistent action and overall great technique. They communicate very well and with purpose, and they also know the team structure well despite some players not being in the system very long, and they don't break out of that structure randomly. All the while they still read the defence and take the opportunities that present themselves in transition and in the half court. They look after the ball extremely well through very good ball handling and stance fundamentals.
With that said, with not a single training or even walk through under their belt, the QABL guys showed some of the talent that exists within the league and had some nice moments.
Wink Adams was a standout for UNLV, shooting 10 of 11 from the field for 24 points including one cross over pull up jumpshot that brought some cheers from all who attended the game. For the QLD Select team, Thalo Green had 23 and battled hard all night, with all other players from the select group chipping in here and there throughout the game.
This game was definantly a good learning curve for all involved, from the players, to the coaches, spectators and organisers. It was certainly an experience which more people will gain from tomorrow night if they choose to make the trip out to QSAC. It isn't often that teams of this caliber (UNLV) can show some of the attributes of the American college game that make it one of, if not the, greatest pure basketball on the planet. Take the opportunity to come down and witness these guys in action and even spend some time chatting to the coaches, players and support staff of this great program after the game.
The QABL guys must also be thanked for giving up their time to play in the game and committing for the full game in what was a great and much needed spectacle for basketball in QLD, especially in such a low time as it is right now for the sport in South East QLD with the Bullets recent demise. Each of those players are integral parts of their respective QABL programs and represented themselves and their programs with pride, when some way have chose to sit it out and not risk injury etc leading into finals. It would be great to see a similar group of guys get together again for future games of this kind.
Lastly the entourage of the UNLV Runnin Rebels were a fantastic crowd all night long and made the atmosphere great also, they seem to be a having a great time on the tour.
Jay Andersen is unstoppable when he is playing against a bunch of kids. Nothing great about him when playing against respectable teams.

okay jay had 51 on the boys last week, what about the week before when he had 48 on caboolture or the week before that when he 44 on aucoin and the gold coast, in my opinion jay is one of the best imports to have ever played in the qabl and should be getting looked at by nbl clubs who havent finalised their imports he can play.
he is averaging 35 points and 12 boards a game
averaging about 44 points in the berg stadium

You are on drugs mate, Jay is good, but one of the best imports to play in the QABL, try some of these names and see how he goes
George Butler (Georgetown D1) played along side iverson in college an absolute machine of a player, played for cairns for years leading them to state and national finals,
Billie Ross (Cairns/Clippers) probably the andrew gaze of QABL, a legend in his time i think i remember him av 42 for cairns for the entire season, lead clipper to their only national final
Howard Chambers (burdekin) this is going back, but this man was a gun, guard but had serious game. played for burdekin for years.
Thalo Green (Rockhampton) This man while at rocky was unstoppable got picked up by kings, he is still doing his stuff with logan, but while at rocky he was a freak player.
James Smith (mackay) wasn't the best of players, but man could he jump, just had to get him in their.
Pop Dickerson (toowoomba) still floating around, more known now for his supercamps, but lead toowoomba to a title a long time ago, was still playing in around 2002 and was still a threat even though his knees had given out, could flat out play.
Vern Roberteu (Clippers) one of the best imports i have seen, was a game breaking, his shooting touch and hang time on clutch shots was amazing, i watched him put up a lead record of 63 one game it was awesome.
These are just some imports i can think of right now, that jay wouldn't even get a mention in the same sentence as, anyone else name any??

jay is averaging 35 and 12 how can you say he isnt in the same company as these guys. butler and ross both great players and i did see them both play but jay is one of the best to play in this league ask the players who have played against him then, guys like thalo and jason aucoin who he put good numbers on

Stay with your original name NFI cause you have No F**king Idea. All of those imports on that list put up great numbers on great teams! Any of them can pad their stats against the weaker teams in this league, when you are losing everygame someone has to get the points. Had a decent sidekick in ellis and still couldnt get wins (p.s. this is not a dig at Vdogg) He is a very good scorer but lets not get carried away at 51 on a winless maroochy or 48 against a caloundra team who has won 4 games 2 against maroochy and 1 against bundy. Anderson is a good player but as someone already said should not be even mentioned in the same sentence as those legends of the qabl. If you give 39 shots to alot of players in the league they are going to get you more than 51. As for the nbl, noone will take you seriously till you win ballgames. NBL coaches will look at the result and say "well someone had to get those numbers when you get blown out". Who is he guarding in the nbl in the 3 spot? barlow? hoare? wortho? sav? ebi? these guys are killers and would throw him around.
