Downer Appointed As Wildcats Assistant Coach
The Perth Wildcats today announced the appointment of Mick Downer as Assistant Coach for the next two seasons.
Downer is currently the Head Coach of Basketball WA’s High Performance Programs and brings with him over 10 years of experience in providing intensive coaching and training at all levels.
Previous coaching positions for Mick Downer included Head Coach of Basketball Australia National Junior programs in both QLD and WA and Head Coach Under-20 QLD Men.
“Mick is an important addition, not just for the upcoming season but the long-term development of club,” CEO Nick Marvin said today. “We will see a greater focus on individual player coaching within the club as well as a focus on developing and improving juniors and up-and-coming basketball talent in this state. We are clearly committed to a greater engagement with basketball in Western Australia and Mick is an important acquisition for this program.”
Basketball WA CEO Rick Smith said “we are very disappointed to lose Mick who has made an outstanding contribution to the development of the sport during his time with Basketball WA. We are excited however about working with Mick and the Perth Wildcats to develop a strong strategic alliance that provides talented athletes with opportunities to excel at the highest level.”
