Uh - don't you coach Brisbane VDOGG?
I think the Wizards have the Illawarra, Sturt, South Tassie, Ballarat group. And I don't think it's that bad a group, either.

Ballarat, Brisbane, Illawarra, Sth Tas & Sturt.
Eastern Mavericks, Knox, NW Tas, NT South & Sutherland.
Which do people think is the toughest pool? IMO the Eltham/Gosford/T'Ville/Wanneroo pool would be toughest. Wanneroo have won WA easily & Eltham are tough & athletic.
Ballarat/Illawarra/Sturt to fight for 2nd in their pool.
Knox to romp their pool with Sutherland and Eastern fighting for 2nd.
Keilor to win their pool & no idea on the other teams.

C'mon V-Dogg - I love a good "talking my team down", but in reality you should waltz through Pool C.
Illawarra are extremely lucky to be here (didn't even make Rnd 3 of State Champs), Ballarat didn't make VC Finals, and this Sturt team doesn't hold a candle to the last 3 or 4. They are scrappers, but the SA comp this year is very poor. I expect BBI to carry over a win, with the winner of the Sturt/Ballarat game to go 2nd carrying the loss (I'll tip Sturt).
Pool B is most definitely the Pool Of Death.

My predections for standings in each pool:
Pool A - Keilor, Norths, Canberra, Northside, Stirling
Pool B - Eltham, Gosford, Townsville, Wannaroo, NT North
Pool C - Brisbane, Sturt, Ballarat, Illawarra, Sth Tas
Pool D - Knox, Sutherland, Eastern Mavs, NW Tas, NT South
Knox to defeat Eltham in the final, with Keilor taking the bronze over Norths.

Don't disagree with the first three, however I would hesitate to rate Norths over Brisbane, Wannaroo (who I think you're under-rating) and even possibly Eastern Mavericks.
Don't be fooled by the V-Dogg talk down... his mob have the goods from all reports.
I think the Vics will feature heavily at weeks end, though.

I expect Brisbane and Northside have played each other a bit. How big is the margin between them? How does Townsville compare (assuming they've met somewhere along the way)?
Same question about Wannaroo - how far above Stirling are they?
I don't think there's a great deal between the top 3 from NSW, although Norths have consistently won all meetings between them. Illawarra are a fair bit behind, but they can turn it on in patches - probably won't feature near the top of final standings, but could cause a big upset somewhere during the week.

First time Northside played BBI we got done by 30, then 25 (round games), in the final against BBI we lost by 10, we have played 1 practice match since and BBI won by 20. My side has changed since those games with our Captain fracturing his growth plate on his right wrist. He won't be playing at the Nationals.
Northside beat Townsville at Classics, from memory we won by 15? maybe vdogg will remember the score.....

Townsville very dissappointing being home team but they were the wild card...
Good luck Brisbane Boys - Keep up the good work

Well now it's all over - how do people think the QLD teams performed?
I think possibly the results were a little poor? VDogg's mob probably were hoping/expecting to be no lower than 5th/6th & potentially up there in medal contention? What happened in the Sturt game? They seem to have over-achieved to make top 4 & were out-classed up there (going by results).
Northside had an injured kid, which obviously hurt them. Any comments on the week ALW?
TSV simply outmatched at that level. I don't think much more needs to be said. I'm sure they all had a great time, though.

Sturt were up by 10 in the first quarter against Knox and only down by 1 point at 3/4 time to Keilor.

That's interesting to know. Having not been there, obviously I can't judge for myself. Knox appeared to be a pretty formidable unit though.
I'd really like to hear from Alw or VDogg on whether they felt their teams over or under achieved for the week. From a distance it would appear perhaps both slightly underachieved but it would be nice to get their perspective on things.
Also on how other clubs were run - which clubs were well drilled, coached etc, which were not. Which teams over & under achieved the most for the week in their opinions.

VDOGG's team played fairly well during the tournament. Ran into some shooting woes in a few games but all teams would have had that. I think VDOGG would have thought they would have finished higher.

Top 3 were streets ahead of the rest. 5-8 pretty even. Woeful charity stripe shooting cost V Doggs boys a 5-6 berth. Caps 1st quarter Vs Sturt was good - didn't see what happened after that, but couldn't have been pretty

Pool A - 3rd, 5th, 9th, 11th, 17th
Pool B - 2nd, 8th, 10th, 18th, 19th
Pool C - 4th, 7th, 12th, 13th, 16th
Pool D - 1st, 6th, 14th, 15th, 20th
Looks like Pool A was the toughest. Unlucky Pool A teams were Canberra (finished 9th, without getting a shot at the 8th, 7th or 6th placed teams) & Stirling (finished 11th with 6 wins, 2 losses). Stirling actually beat Norths who finished 5th, and only dropped games to Keilor and Canberra all week.
But I guess that's tournament basketball...

How tough were the Sturt team that Brisbane played? Going by results it looked as though Brisbane should've done them comfortably?
Everything I had read was that this was a "down year" for Sturt & their team wasn't going to be competitive, yet they still managed top 4.

sturt caught fire via 2 bottom age players who next year should be world beaters in #31 who was so hot there were flames coming off the ball every time he touched it and some big kid #55 who killed us in the paint

if you want to make the top 8 or top 4 at this tourney you obviously need to have the horses and you also need to make free throws and be able to score inside and also defend the perimeter we didnt do any of these things well enough to finish top 4 we played well in patches but not long enough periods. WE would have had to have been extremely good on our day to beat knox or keilor and we played well in the 2nd half against eltham but damage was done at half time. we showed good character in our game against gosford with chia hitting foul shots to tie it up and take us to ot and eustace hitting a big three to basically seal it. Against sutherland we sucked in the 4th losing a 10 pt lead to go down by 4, and put us out of 5th place playoff. We then played gosford again and beat them again to finish 7th

Speaking of bottom age players VDogg (or ALW, or anyone who was there) - were there any standouts there? Sturt obviously had a couple who must be reasonable. What about any other clubs? Did any of the 3 Vic teams have bottom agers there?
How are the QLD teams looking for next year? Will we have a contender?

yeah it was a very emotional day that last day in townsville and the flight home was kind of tough but you have to move on and hopefully i can find some new challenges in hoops at the senior level

Well done Dogg on a great junior coaching stint. I'm sure all the kids you coached over the years have come out the better for your efforts.
All the same, a rest from all that testosterone, not to mention the parents must be looking good.

yeah results were a bit dissapointing for the Wizards.
from our pool games I felt on our day we could have been 3 Wins 1 Loss. Keilor being the team that I think we couldn't have beat.
Canberra stunned us in the 1st game and we never recovered all week. We are a convidence side which was our downfall in not being able to bounce back.
Keiler were a quality side, that Leebody kid from the Thunder was awesome.
Our game vs Stirling felt like we were winning, but the scoreboard didn't reflect it. We missed a tonne of FT's that could have put the game away early since Stiring had been in foul trouble the whole game.
Our game vs Nth Bears was weird, were very competitive and I thought we had the game one, but we had a 3rd qtr slump which we never recovered from.
The crossovers we very dissapointing for us. We were up by 10-15 pts in both games vs Tassie Thunder and Eastern Mavericks and blew it in the 3rd qtr.
My general feeling is that we played out best basketball at our State Championships and the 5-6mth lag was difficult to keep the boys motivated.
Having lost our captain a week before the champtionship was another blow too.
But all that said, my boys had a great time, first time for wizards which was great. It can only get better.
After seeing the quality of Knox, Sturt and Keilor it was clear to see that Sthn teams are much better than other states. On that, some of boys that played for Knox and Eltham were like Men!
Congratulations to ALW and his team on winning the Fair Play Award.
cheers! it was a suprise, as the tournament wore on I started to get a bit frustrated with officials....not their fault... so yeah I thought that may have cost wizards the award.

Intersting to see the rankings there.
No QLD'ers at all? Not even a Richie or Chia? VDogg or ALW, were they really that far off? How accurate do you think those rankings are? Are the Sturt kids in there the bottom agers VDogg mentioned who killed them in their game? If so, bit scary to think of 2 bottom age kids in the top 12 of the tournament.

Isn't that the site that's run by some German dude? The summary of the tournament sounded like a very generic basketball article with a name dropped here and there and no real substance. Everything else was drawn from the Nationals website. Also, half the photos look like they were ripped right from the Kangaroo Photos website without their knowledge or permission (thus they still have the watermark).

yeah very different from my thoughts.
i think if BBI and Wizards finished in the top 5 then there would have been some names mentioned.
