Should U12 Girls use a Size 5 basketball???

Now I know Female basketball has been using a Size 6 basketball for a few years now in all age groups U12s to Seniors.

So why is it we expect a 10 yr old girl to use the same size basketball as an adult? Should we not allow the U12 Girls to use a Size 5 basketball?

Now people will say the kids can do some amazing things with a Size 6 basketball in U12 Girls and I don't disagree BUT I think the U14 boys do some amazing things with a Size 6 basketball when a Male Adult uses a Size 7 basketball.

I just think for their development the U12 Girls could use a Size 5 basketball and then progress to a Size 6 basketball at U14s.

Good Point.

They made the women play with a smaller ball some time ago to encourage more scoring and faster play as the ball is lighter. It would make sense that the younger girls should play with the next size down until they are old enough to handle a larger ball.

Having coached both younger and older age groups I could see the benefit in doing this.

Well the thing is if you look at a boys hand and a girls hand us boys have a alot bigger hand then the girls and boys are naturally stronger no affence but it is a well known fact and i use a size 6 it doesn't really matter because its just a ball anyways i train with a size 7 and play with a size 6 you don't see me complaining.

I definitly think that u/12, and u/14 girls should be using size 5's.

Junior boys use a size down from seniors, girls should use a size down from senior girls.
