Districts on top of table after a 33-30 win at Maroochydore

Congrats to Mathew Beggs and his coaching staff on going undefeated in this years BQJBC. The girls did a great job as did all other teams and programs within the competition. This years competition was very high standard.

The Spartans juniors showed they are headed in the right direction by winning for the second year in a row, the “Harold Peacock Shield”.

This award is presented by Basketball Queensland to the best junior program within the competition in the South East of Queensland in age groups from under 12 through to under 18 in both male and female competition. It started in October 2008 and finished on Saturday night when all grand finals being played at the Brisbane Entertainment centre at Boondall.

“We are continually looking at ways to develop our junior players and I personally want to thank all those volunteers who have coached and managed our teams over the past season” offered Charles Ellis, President of Southern Districts. “The development program, UPPS, we run between seasons is proving the difference between us and the other Associations. Our under 12 girls, under the direction of Mathew Beggs, went undefeated and our under 14 boys Cup team both won with most teams finishing in the top four”.

The Under Pinning Program starts again after Easter and this year will have again the best coaching staff available including many former NBL and WNBL players involved. It is hard work but if a young player wants to get better then they must be willing to do the extra. Persons interested in attending should contact Greg Vanderjagt on 3398 2790 during business hours.
