View Full Version : NBA Live 09 vs NBA 2K9
Both games will be out on Brisbane shelves very shortly.
If anybody gets either of the two, post your thoughts up here. There will be quite a few people waiting on thoughts of both games before they decide which to buy.
On an interesting note, Live has expanded their FIBA content to 24 team this year, including the Aussie roster.

NBA 2K9 is available at EB Games on the 10th of October, with NBA Live 09 available on the 9th of October. I've already put in my pre-order.
My money is on NBA Live 09 to be better this year, with Dynamic DNA, FIBA, NBA Academy and other new features. 2K9 have basically put out a weaker copy of Dynamic DNA, but will hold its own in most departments.
And if it's got KG endorsing it, it gotta be good!
Let's just all hope that EA Sports puts out something better than the trash they had last year (they couldn't be bothered to put in a FIBA court, and the Team USA roster was wrong, along with numerous other things). Almost anything will be an improvement.
I have followed live very closely this year... We are gonna have a great choice this year.
But as usual i will be getting live and 2k... i'm addicted to basketball ;)
yeah it is the 10th some crazy kid told me the 1st.....pre ordered my 2k9 the other day might throw a sicky on friday and get amongst it.... im going to wait for one of my mates to buy live so i dont make the same mistake i did with live 08!!
There are a couple of videos comparing the two on YouTube.
Watching them, some observations:
Live looks more finished, and has better graphics.
Players look more detailed, especially in the shoes (although it looks like basically every Nike player is wearing Hyperdunks, I mean sure, 7 out of the 12 on the US Olympic team were wearing them, but c'mon), in Live.
You can't really tell much from the videos about gameplay, but interestingly Suns GM Steve Kerr, the insightful engineer of the Shaq-Marion trade, is still commentating on Live 09, which is surprising considering he's not on TNT or ESPN, who are supposedly working with EA Sports.
I'm buying both, but I think I'll be playing Live more, unless it turns out to be as bad as Live 08, and if 2K9 is relatively the same as 2K8, I won't be disappointed.

From early IGN.com reports, 2K9 has basically overhauled last years effort, and the result is a vastly superior game. Gameplay has changed, pace has quickened, players still look awesome, and while the menus are apparently a bitch to navigate, the on-court stuff is great. I'll probably buy both then return the one I dislike most...
NBA Live 09 dropped today people!! EB games and kmart both have it. Im hoping 2K9 drops tomorrow......

i got 2K9 on wednesday night as its awesome the graphics are unreal each player has the own style and its pretty much spot on!! I haven't played live but from what i have heard its not as good as 2k.....

I also noticed Australia ranks below Iran ... who are they fkn kidding .... so many errors it ain't funny, but at least they've added us in I guess.
Starting to like the actual game play itself. The pick n roll feature is a nice add.

I picked up 2k9 last thursday and haven't put it down since. Alot of realism and i haven't had a run in with any of the glitches of 2k7/2k8 like the glide and other stupid things. The new shot stick is the best idea to come out of the game plus the 20 new post moves.

Nah, it doesn't. To be honest, most of the Live controls are almost identical to 2K, apart from a few slight differences. Same shot control based on each player's different shot type as well.
Live seems to have fixed up most of the major glitches from Live 08. But out of the 3 covers that have been Point Guard's over the last two years, none have been Steve Nash. Disgraceful.
For those with Live, have any of you mastered the Quickstrike Anklebreaker offensive challenge ... I can do everything but that one :(

yeah, that one is weird
i just try to get pass the defender at the start, outsprint the two in the middle and take the ball to the rack and if i miss, i miss. If you can effectively stop your player so that he doesnt take a runner, id pull up and shoot, it all depends. but basically just get pass the 1st defeander and you r sweet
i have not played live yet, but 2k9 is very good, realistic and easy to control.

I think it's really disappointing that Live can't even get Oklahoma City jersey's and logos in the game, when 2K9 manages fine.
It would be great if College basketball games would be available in Australia.

Yep PnR is awesome, as are the controls in general. I like the alleyoop control.
You can get OKC's stuff on Live, you just have to download it from Xbox Live (for free) if you have it.

i got 2k9 on xbox 360 - early x'mas pressie from my bro and am definitely impressed.
fairybread went for live '09 and i think the gameplay or controller set up is easier because so far he reckons it's better (fkn tard fingers...) :)
i'm not into it as much as u lot though so i won't be buying live '09 as well!!
i got a $25 off voucher with the game - might spend it on fifa '09 or madden nfl '09 :D

After having smashed Live 09 for the past week, I'd have to say that this is the best title it has put out in many many years playability-wise.

Of course 2K9 is better than Live 08: it was a piece of shit. Can't say it's better than Live 09, though.
Ive always been a fan of live got 2k7 couple of years ago didn't like it but live this year is frustrating me i like playing dynasty mode managing the side and even dealing with my players in foul trouble and attacking the opponents in trouble but foul calls seam to be too far few and between the only time i manage to get consistent calls is when I'm up by 5-10 with under a 1 minute left to play.
so i brought 2k9 today and going to get in it tomorrow night what are the best settings to use to get consistent game play calls and challenge my mind i like to try and coach and play the game
