For what it's worth my thoughts on D league are that it works well for us as a feeder to the Clippers team
Both teams are running many of the same sets so players who sit on the bench in 1sts can play down to get minutes or regain form after injury. Fringe players can earn a start with the clips if form is good or injury etc leaves a spot open
U 18 players will slip into d league team with some already pushing for spots in the 1sts
Last time we ran this system quite a number of younger players played up during the year, some of whom are now starters in the 1sts
This also brings all young players into the clippers squad as opposed to just having a Clippers team and clearly demonstrates a pathway from juniors to QBL
Aded advantage is we can seamlessly bring players into training sessions to maintain numbers
Naturally there is a predominance of younger players in the D league but older guys also benefit if minutes are down in 1sts

in response to the posed question about the guns team for the year....
would have to be between caboolture, gold coast and runaway bay again for top 3...although that is depending on a few things...
Caboolture: Will the core 5 of the group mainly hayden and ben be playing often or will they be seeing qbl minutes? could shake this team..? and will they have a big?
Runaway bay: Are they keeping same team? Richards massive for them last year? Is he back? Will they pick up anyone from goldie?
Gold Coast: Benny H and Tye going to the Bay? If so this team may struggle but havnt heard that yet so might be staying? What ever hapens there could change things big time..
those three top in any order followed distantly by BBI Maroochydore and maybe South West? South West generally tough...Who can BBI and the Dore play? BBI have great U18 team this year and dore had great team last year...so will they be stepping up to show some fight this year for the clubs?
Toowoomba, Ipswich, Logan(? are they in ?), Wizards to struggle!! 15 wins between them!
This probly extremly inaccurate but something to talk about :)

Darrington Overstreet returns as Logan's coach and they are trialing on March 8th. Perhaps some of the boys from QABL Mens will be there, since DLeague is all they got this year lolz

I got to see the SEABL D Laegue while I was at Frankston last week. The competition is amazing. They treat the game just as they do the SEABL games in very way with educators, music, intros, after game function and have people paying to get into the game. Standard is what set me off. Rod Popp from Cairns coaching the Kilsyth team as though there was no tomorrow. Teams in full gear including dress shirts before and after the game. The leagues has 10 mens teams (I think) at present but will be also conducting a mid season event from next year where interstate teams can attend. basically an Australian under 23 Championship. A must see for serious basketball addicts.
This is what we should be aspiring to if we are serious about this competition being a true development pathway for future players.
The sad facts are that I am hearing both BBI and Districts will not be enetering teams in 2009 which really says a lot for how the competition is perceived by many in Queensland. Maybe this is first part of what we need to change in Queensland.
Last thing I want to mention is the sad facts about the national Uni team. I am told that these players have to pay own way to represent own country. What sort of message does this send to athletes selected. Yes we want you to play for us but it will also cost you time and money. Time for a change all around are my immediate thoughts.

Should we ask the question is D-League for players who don't get on with coaches or should it be to develop players planning for the future to have players ready to play QABL? Just a question?

Good question. With the new restricted rule only allowing 2 per game has a big impact on this. The otherside of the arguement is if u dont allow them to play u will lose alot of players from the game all together. For smaller associations this could be the difference between fielding a side or not. And whats to say these players having issues with coaches are not 17-18yrs old with alot development left in there game. With regards to having player coach troubles thats for the association to control and either get rid of the problem or lose the players.
With an official QBL draw already out anybody know how far off a D-league draw might be?

That's interesting. The majority of these players are U20's or just out of U20's. Do they have an age restriction on the competition.
This competition certainly didn't exist a couple of years ago. They may have just restructered their U20's comp.

Runaway Bay is looking to have 2 teams in the D-League this year, and their squad has been training for over a month. They will be looking to improve over their minor premiership and first round finals knockout from last season.

Runaway Bay needs a QABL team. The D-League team they had last year and what they will probably have this year is full of men aged in their mid 20's and older. The young guns coming up from juniors end up sitting on the bench or not making the team at all. How is this helpful in nurturing young talent? The reason it is called the "Development" league is to help young players make the transition to senior basketball.
They should make it like the Under 23 comp they had a couple of years back, only allow 1 or 2 "senior" players older than 23 on the team.
So still not D-league draw I see? Does anyone know an official date when it will come out? And just to clarify with anyone out there who knows for sure, is the rule still that a team can have 2 restricted players (restricted meaning they played over 12 minutes in QBL last season) for each game? Cheers

Depends whether we want QLD to be a part of the mooted new National Youth League (ex D League) or choose to stay isolated playing in a little backwoods competition on our own where big fish can swim in small ponds?

Is it surprising that Runaway Bay feel they can only compete with their men against teenagers in the "Development" League? Pick on someone your own size. It takes the whole competition to a place that it shouldn't be. If you want to be competitive against them, you can't have all boys or you will get a spanking. What are you developing your men for? It's not like they have a QBL team to aspire to. Having 2 teams in D-League isn't the answer either.
Bring back the U23 rule, it's the only way to save D-League from the opportunists.
And by the way, I am included in the "we". It's important to have your eyes open to what is going on in the southern states. Why shouldn't we want to have the best D-League in Australia?

I thought it was u23 league - how many over that age group are allowed in each team? There is rep for players u18 and I thought u23 was the natural progression for our juniors.
Stop whinging. If you want to play with other kids on a weekly basis, go play in your association's local fixtures. You're not going to get any better unless you play against the best available, and unfortunately for you, that means testing yourself against a more mature group from the Bay.

Well I guess to look good these days it takes a team where the average age is (lets say) 18 to show up a team where the average age is (lets say) 24..... that's so mature. This is most juniors introduction to senior level basketball. It seems that should be a baptism of fire.
If the older guys don't have anywhere to go and play competitive ball lets address that as a separate issue, not compromise D-League instead.

The problem with gen-Y kids is that they all want to be superstars TODAY.
Back in the day (I sound like my dad:)) we were all happy just to sit on the end of the bench of a senior team until we were ready to step up. That meant training with the A-grade team, then playing in the A-grade team. Then training with the Div 1 team, before we were ready to play in the div 1 team.
Nobody today is happy to WORK their way to the top, they are all happier if the top comes down to them instead.
To many political correct people in sports today.
Have a look at the last names of the best kids in the country. It is no coincidence that their parent have mostly played at the top level themselves. They have all been brought up the hard way. Suck it up. Juniors belong in BQJBC. D-league (I hate that name) is for the second tiers to the QBL...

Bay are planning to enter the league and are obviously keeping some of their best in the program. Therefore the league is achieving its purpose - developing players for the QBL 24 is not old it is in fact still quite young
We will be playing players in their late 20,s down from our QBL team to keep them in form if they lack minutes in the top league and mixing them with players from u 18's as well. Hope the bay are strong wqe dont really want to play against children it wont develop us to do that

The only reason Bay have some of there best playing D league is because they currently dont have a ABA team.. Bay are going to be very strong this year with there program getting bigger with more great up and coming players joining.. Shane Heal is now the coaching Director at Bay so there program is getting stronger everyday... Looking forward to seeing Bay having an ABA team next year...This will open up the D league team as players like Dan Richards will end up playing ABA..

Depends what level you aspire to.
The ideal "D-League" (hate that name) would comprise players the standard of those that play at the U/20 Nationals...which incidentally sorry to say is nothing even resembling U/20 PL, U/20 Classics, GBL or anything else we have in QLD. More like a midway between NCAA DIV 1 and 2 really. Again, ideally, the D League, (or Carlton United Australian Amatuer Youth League or some such name) would be a sacrosanct fully amateur and NCAA endorsed and approved Summer League where Aussie kids in College plus any Yanks that want to gain experience in their summer by playing down under can compete at an extremely high level without prejudicing their College careers. Major sponsors have had the concept floated to them and showed keen and genuine interest in associating their products/services with the Nations next generation of professionals-Doctors/Lawers/Accountants etc- it's in a holding pattern at present apparently waiting to see if and what basketball administration in this country can come up with. (The SEABL D League are leading the way)
What a fantastic initiative for Australian youth basketballers to make the transition between high school and the pros! (Same age as NCAA athletes), but could you imagine say a Christian Salecich or Brock Motum or Patty Mills playing in a summer league where they risk injury playing against blokes who have probably never been at their fitness levels in their lifetime, let alone have the speed athleticism and timing that the 18-25 elite guys do?
I could just imagine that 40 yr old bloke from Ipswich who used to bash the kids in D League or the bunch of redneck hoons from Redlands in their NBA gear trash talking and throwing their beer bellies around in a league with real players with futures ?
Anyhow it's not going to happen just yet so they may as well call it anything they want and let any has been or never was/never will be play in it and the kids who havent got scholarships yet or just want to keep playing as a social thing can rock up if they want and have got the time and inclination to do so. Until anyone gets the vision of the southern states and looks at it for what it could truly be, just let it stay a uniquely QLD 3rd-4th division standard social league where old guys can try to look good against kids. If these old guys are so good and ready to 'peak' at 29, how come they want to play against 18 year olds straight out of school anyway?? Wouldnt it be better for their pro aspirations to be playing against bigger and better players in the GBL or Wizards or Districts A grade while their agent waits for that call that will inevitably come?
You're dreaming Gordon. Let's step back into reality instead of dancing in the clouds.

Not such a bad vision when you consider theres $355 million in alcopops tax money floating round out there like a political hot potato. The brewers dont want it back lest they create a market perception of being aligned with the extremist christian right, the Government wants to spend it on its original intended purpose through Health for Community Sport but for who knows what political reasons cant allocate it exactly as originally intended. It may not be grass roots community sport but its pretty bloody close and ticks a few Health portfolio boxes in these times of rising unemployment and the inherent social problems of idle youth. You could employ quite a few State based coordinators and a centrally located administration centre with marketing department etc (AFL model actually) plus pay for a lot of airfares accomodation and incidental expenses over 3-5 years with that sort of money. The flow on employment forecasts are surprising. The concept provides a win/win for the brewers and Govt. in that they get maximum quality exposure in the youth market with money they never thought they would see again and the Government to fulfil it's charter in difficult times by creating employment addressing Health and Youth issues as well as "enriching the lives of all Australians through sport" (Sports Commission mission statement).
The petty age debate thats ensuing on here would be a moot point. Same as the NCAA where players with the ability to play at that level can be recruited regardless of age so long as they meet the academic criteria. No academic criteria here but if the standard was high only legitimate athletes would be selected.
The NCAA doesnt have to share anything. They sanction various summer leagues around the World because it enhances their product and serves their purposes. Same as they sanction the Australian A.I.S. program, because it meets their needs but more importantly it meets the standards and image of their product. Groups of semi fit under developed and underskilled 24+ blokes running around for a weekend hit out doesnt exactly fit their ideal. Just a thought.
That's all a bit heavy. Good thinking, but in reality pipe dreams. It appears your focus is too heavily mounted on youth, and that your seem to disregard anyone over the age of 21.
Queensland would be better served by allowing for an open-age second-tier competition. This would allow the opportunity for QBL bench players to get some needed court time, and also gives smaller centres a chance to develop their own stock and compete at a senior level. Quite simple really, and not a lot for BQ to worry about on their end.
Also I'm not a Redlands supporter, but seems you have something against them. They all enjoy their basketball, and I'm sure they don't care the slightest that you think lesser of them for dagging around in NBA gear instead of having surfboards under their arms.

The fact they have a team that go 10deep - with 5 state players 3 from NSW and 2 from QLD - They are a 5x stronger then last year.. If I had to put money on a team to win it would be Bay.. But I also think there are 2 other pretty strong teams in the league... looking foward to seeing the season unfold!

and you expect people to believe someone who thinks bay is all that and more what about the rest of the league it seams that you have forgotten about logan they are not playing aba this year and will have some experience coastal may be strong depends on who they have lost coast my be a challenge i dont think they will win it a bit young and have lost players to the aba side. you can sit there and preach that bay are 10 deep but is that belief shared by the coach. and when you look at at the south east corner with coast logan northside and south west so close i find it hard to belive that one association can attract that much talent when they dont play aba......

The main problem with charging so attendance into games means all the players are classified as semi pro meaning it could stuff up NCAA and NCAA2 prospects from being able to qualify hence why some of them turn down playing ABA and stay in D-league so they can still get into college ball in America.
The whole uni games situation is overpriced. UQ didnt even send teams to either mens or womens Northern Uni Games or Aus Uni Games because of the price involved. Non voluntary student unions are the main problem but that is meant to change in the future since K Rudd is now in government and plans to change it. For Northerns on sunnie coast at QUT you are shelling out $350 bucks for 3 days of games and accommodation and so on. Add the cost of jerseys and no real sponsorship you can easily make it to 500 including food and plenty of booze.
International uni games players have to pay their "own way" to international games but all their costs would be covered under their own university scholarship programs anyway if they are good enough to make Aus Uni Team they would be on a scholarship. Where is this proposed money going to come from to pay for them anyway ?? But something similar to NCAA needs to be setup in Australia but it is hard with only so many universities in QLD and associated travel costs if we were to play seasonal competitions against uni from around Australia on a weekly basis.

got a chance to watch a logan vs goldy pre season game last night not a bad game by both teams considering it was the first practice game for both teams. both teams a little shaky in the opening qtr with gold coast taking the early lead. gold coast with some sharp shooting from beyond the 3 in the 2nd qtr with the lead at the half by about 10. logan picked up the defence in the 3rd to close the gap with scores back to level goin into the last. logan able to take advantage of some match ups inside as the game went on and came away with a close win by 5 or 6 i think. logan look to have a young squad could only recognise 1 or 2 from there qabl team from last year. gold coast look to have some solid scorers and could light some teams up this season if they get hot may be lacking some size inside tho. not sure if it was full strength teams for both squads but a solid hit out all the same. hope the refs are willing to let the game flow a little more once the season rolls around felt like there was a lot of quick fouls being called taking the speed out of the game for both teams

Runaway Bay
GC
Ipswich
Coastal
Coastal and Ipswich pretty much the same roster with a few extra - could compete with the south coast teams

List looks like it was put up this afternoon. Very strong line-up!
Adam Tyrus < - Athletic 3 man from Logan
Antonio Reyes <-- arguably best player in the comp
Daniel Reeves
Daniel Richards <-- arguably in the top 3 for this comp
Gregg Donovan
Jason Horton
Jimmy Philippi
Josh Black <-- NSW state player
Kyle Mills <-- Lightning quick PG
Luke Wakerley
Mitch Evans
Shane Richards <-- one of the best big men in the comp
Yo Merckel
Zac Compton <-- NSW state player?
Shit hot lineup!
Bit dissapointed to see that this thread is going to pay homage to the bay for the next 14 weeks at least. Wouldn't mind a bit of info about other teams, despite the fact that its midly interesting hearing about supposedly the best team ever assembled.
Hype.
I don't see Allan Mills in that lineup anywhere. If it's the best super happy fun time team ever, surely they'd sign up the sugar glider?

I agree in ways.. I think that Runaway Bay are going to be strong but they will have to get through so strong teams like Logan, Suns and Ipswich. I am looking forward to seeing how Daniel Richards goes this year because last year he was the only go to player where this year Runaway Bay look to have multi go to players. Good luck to all teams. Must of all good luck to Bay as they have alot to live up to!!!

Logan up against redlands by about 15 at 3/4 time
Logan up against redlands by about 15 at 3/4 time
Logan Men beat Redlands by 11 or 12. As a coach of junior boys I love how Logan's coach gave Keenan and Brad valuable minutes in the 4th, even when Redlands put their press on and were catching up. Hope Ben from Redlands' injury pulls up ok, not sure what he did but didn't come back after doing something to a leg in the 2nd half. Taylor Barry shot well for Logan from outside. Bones was high scorer for Redlands.
Logan Women beat Redlands by 25. Redlands missing a couple key players but credit to Logan for their defence and taking over the game when Redlands tired in the 2nd half.

The seahawks beat Northside wizards by about 20 or more points, however the wizards did keep with them until halfway into the 3rd quarter. Seahawks have a pretty deep side, with many quick and good guards, and a couple of good big men. Northside have a fairly young team, with some good shooters.
Ipswich beat the sea warriors by about 10 points. Very close game until the end, where ipswich dropped a couple of clutch 3 pointers.
Heard Bay beat Northside in the men by about 20.

Birsbane doesnt have a team in mens d league
Runaway Bay 1 beat Northside by about 20 though, was close for about 3 quarters, good showing by Northside against a much bigger and stronger opponent, game would have been much closer had the bay not been allowed to run the break in the first half
Second game between these 2 teams should prove to be a more exciting contest

Ibswich not as strong as people thought? Or are the Sea Warriors stronger then people think?
Good things are happening at Runaway Bay if they can put together a 'dream team' and the second team are competitive against a possible finals team.
And their womens team beat Ibswich by 6, Ibswich won the comp last year.

The best thing about the Sea warriors is that the majority of there guys are still young and the development league will do them wonders. Best thing the bay have ever done creating second team. Will help their future, and will still be competitvie next year in d league when they have an aba side. Don't underestimate warriors like Ipswich did. The force will be fine though, we had a slow start but finished strong to get the win. Ipswich will be right up there in contention.

Ipswich played better as a team down the stretch with the skinny point, 11 & 33 leading the way i think making some big plays also the bench went deeper and help!!

Ipswich went hard at the end. Looks like R'bay didn't have their coach? Proberly could have put their shooters out in the end.
What's the point of the second team? Aren't both teams supposed to be development? Or couldn't Runaway Bay afford ABA this season so had to keep the team down? Could the hawks compete at ABA level?
Can't wait for the 2 to meet.

there are underlying themes in these blogs such as 'what is the purpose of d league?' and 'what are its key objectives?'.
i think over the years this has been basketballs biggest problem. it lacks direction and clarity. we have done ok in that department by creating a wonderful 'mission statement' but then we do 2 things. 1. we dont allow it to govern the decisions we make regarding our clubs and comps 2. we dont employ solid management to carry out the mission and see the key objectives are met. our number one criteria for management is 'did they play nbl?' or 'could they dunk?'. there needs to be a clear purpose and plan in place, right at the top and then have that filter down through the various leagues and clubs. this whole 'its not what you know or do but who you know and do' is making it tough.
each state is running its own show, looking after their favorites and then many (including those who have outgrown junior comp with no selection yet skilled) find themselves in comps such as d league. i think d league can be all of the above, as long as it doesnt become a recklessly dangerous environment for budding youth to develop in. although, i was at the logan redlands game and the little no8 guard from logan wasnt afraid to throw a few cheap shots and be reckless, so who knows. just because one departs from the u/20 comp with no selection or recognition, do we right them off or believe their dreams are over? at the u18 classics last year, the seahawks had a guard small forward who was dominating division 1 but when state team was announced, same old names from years before in u14 and u16. this kid would have housed many on that state team. where is he now? i hope hes in d league at least. TO AN EXTENT, age shouldnt matter. names like aaron honeyman from the spartans early 90's come to mind. oldies like gaze and even mackinnon trying to make the nba, same thing (if ur reading, no offence mac).
there will be players over 24 who have beer bellies etc but this is due to the fact that they now have to work, then relax somehow but they still love to ball. its got nothing to do with beating up on kids. bottom line, we need a clear purpose for each league, with clarity on its objectives right from the top and then each club needs to build its comps around that. it will help with decision making on everything and anything plus allow unknown players who hit form (despite age) to get a look in because they are meeting objectives as opposed to whether or not they belong to a particular association or mentor.
i fully support basketball here in oz and qld but having worked in it at both a national and local level, it needs work. keep hooping though boys. my prediction for d league... its going to be a tough and tight season. all will be competitive, even those rednecks from the redlands who look and live nothing like people from ipswich. oops, did i just say that, my bad!!!

Dan Richards played limited minutes! Wasn't required when they had Josh Black on the floor he shot the lights out. Best on court in my eyes by far! Shane Coupland had a quiet game compared to normal unsure why? He hit a couple of big shots in the last but quiet up until then.

wiz and clips might actually be tightish, depends who plays for each team, its at mdore which is always tough for visiting teams but northside..pretty young and athletic against another young athletic team, could be fun to watch
if ipswich play how they did against bay 2 theyll get beat..but should get the win if they play half decent

Got a sneak peak into Redlands trainings this week.
Their coach is a little dissapointed about athletic big not playing this week, but happy about team's progress. They have all only played together 3 times...
The coach is committed to giving local Jnrs solid minutes, just as he did against Logan. And if that drags team to a loss, so be it. Commendable attitude I thought.
Reddy's are certainly out to shake their "redneck" reputation. So all ex-NHL fans looking for an old fasioned dust up - you'll be dis-appointed.
Some of the structured offences might surprise you. If they can mesh together, they might NOT finish last. Big strides needed for top 4 - I grant you. But NOT LAST...

What Redlands juniors are you talking about?
alright alright alright! ive been reading these blogs and couldnt contain myself any longer, so here is a blog from me, the redlands d league coach. in regards to redlands juniors, we only have 2 u18 players and the team has an average age of 22/23yrs. not as young as other sides but d league is an important first step for our clubs progress into representative senior levels. in regards to the person who had a sneak peak into our training during the week, how is that possible? it was a closed session. therefore, it must be one of the boys but that cant be right either. we dont have computers, literacy skills or even a mcdonalds in redneck land!! do we? i am the only one who knows how to read and write. just kidding boys. people need to come and check out our quality of life on the bayside, its nice. redlands has a tough road ahead of us but we know what that road looks like and where its heading. my boys are committed and proud, so they'll run against anyone. we do need to improve our fitness and get use to playing with each other and that will come. we have also had some minor obstacles to deal with but we have a good program and when it becomes second nature, we should do ok. right us off at your peril all you bloggers still living at your parents, sleeping between stars wars sheets and blankets, redlands will play hard and fair. guaranteed! i wish everyone a safe and good season though. fiddes.

Both teams quite average, noone stood out for either team. The coast guards shared the 3 point shooting, and if any team can stop them shooting 3's they will go down very easily i think. Warriors just not good or experienced enough, didn't capitalize on their height advantage.

1 Qtr was tight, but when Bay put on the full court D Logan couldnt do anything but turn the ball over.. Logan did a great job of getting to the line but that couldnt save them...Dan Richards had 32 and Adam Tyrus had 30.. Well done Bay.

How about all you young pussies stop whinging about getting beat, take a teaspoon of concrete and harden the fuck up.
Is that what you lot did when you first started Development league 10 years or so ago?

I am Redlands "old fart". I single handedly raise the average age of the rays from 22 to 23. Here's my 2c...
Those concerned about D-League - who cares who is playing..?? Basketball is the most important thing. Our city lost one of the greatest teams in the country because people lost sight of BASKETBALL. I hope the U18s get to play - they'll LEARN something. I hope some more old farts get to play - they'll TEACH something. And as for "waiting for contracts" - wake up and smell the daisies! The pro game is nearly DEAD in this country. Until we get some decent reagular free-to-air coverage, it may remain dead. Let's play all the basketball we can. And if my legs give out, I'm learning wheelies bball.
Those concerned about Redlands - Who cares..?? If we "make up the numbers", imagine how good you'll feel? If we make it tough for 3 quarters and you beat us - imagine how good you'll LOOK? Redlands has a band of good juniors who deserve something to aim at. A D-League team is a natural progression and a positive step. From a club that cares about BASKETBALL. I hope we lose a few, we'll learn. But we'll go down fighting, whining and doing everything we can. (Congrats Suns btw - great tough game..!!)
Runaway Bay? - I thought that's where you learned how to hobie cat? Anyway, if they have 2 teams, by definition - one HAS to be tough. I look forward to playing them too. And I hope it's a road trip so after the game we can have a few beers and talk about BASKETBALL. What a great sport...

Sounds like the go. Runaway Bay is actually a good model for Redlands to copy. For years they been copping it from Gold Coast Assn and others because they realised they didnt have the structure support or finances to rush into ABA. (well they have always had the money but have a smart manager who knows that programs that are built without the proper support and foundations fall over easy). They set a 5 year plan in place a few years back and you can be assured that when they do make that move it will be with crack arse mens and womens teams and solid supporter and financial base. Having the Boomers Assistant coach as your director of coaching probably doesnt hurt your program building either. Having 2 teams in D League is just the last foundation stone before they make the next move. "Hasten slowly" I think someone said. Sounds like you guys are on the same track.

south west didnt play to their potential having only trained together for 3 weeks but credit to ipswich for playing tough d and forcing us out of what we wanted to do. Heard a rumour that Shane Coupland has a broken finger and he still hit some big shots so big ups to him and good luck to the team he eventually sits out against. Im pretty loose so just talking a bit of sh*t but was a pretty good game. South west def feel they could have won but Ipswich also would feel they should have played better first half. Pretty decent game all round.
Yer decent game, refs were a joke, espec young guy!! at least 3-4 tunnels and other hard fouls that didnt get called on Jonno Mines & Shane Coupland (Yes has a broken finger - saw splint on and ice afta game as he watched ABA game) - You stop jonny mines penertating you beat South West and box out!!!!
Top 4 Predictions:
Cab, Ippy, Runaway 1 & Either Goldy, logan or Runaway 2!!!

**Edit**
Add up the Gold Coast individual scores from last week, if Adam Brown scored 47 along with the rest of the teams individuals, the team should have scored 120. I think it was just a mistake. He's a bloody good guard though.

mate you have no clue do you. . . .adam plays at the coast and yes he is an old school baller who has developed, however needs good players around him for him to excel. . . he lacks the ability to take control of a game at the point guard position. i am refering to having the ability to plan ahead and ajust the game at the last second to create something from nothing. i dunno but i think you might have to be born with that ability so maybe he should just get used to be an average everyday player, who will eventually be a good player in ABA but nothing more. or and 47??????

No I dont. dont think I even have the right guy. my bad. but if he's playing the role and his team is winning whose going to criticise? His abilities might be limited in the opinion of yourself but who would really know how good anybody could be until they are in the position to be tested? Till then if he keeps winning and he takes that to ABA and they start winning then...who really knows ??

Gees! Dont tell me Brent's cat is suited up now as well?!!! The thing can only dunk! Cant play the point, low average from the arc and has two left feet!
Talk about gutted from the weekend. Its gonna take me a month to catch up on all of the lost sleep as a result of our tough loss to the suns. I too need to support our big guy with the fluffy hair, whom I am sure many know from ABA. He doesnt whinge for nothing, not even dirty plays. So it must have been something worth whinging about. He is tough and hard working. Despite some of the wonderful character traits displayed by no21 from the suns, they deserve credit for finishing the way they did. Well done suns. No need to raise the average age mr captain unknown, it is as it is. You must be from the redlands to know our side as well as you claim. If not, Bullets big joe once said 'Assuming is the reason for all f*#k ups'. Im not keen to quote the big guy but he had something to think about that time. Anyway, once again well done suns and south west, see you on saturday and good luck to all. I hope you remain injury free. J

Yeah, that's true.
Also you have to stop Kyle Mills, Gregg Donnavan, Craig Fischer & Adam Tyrus. Also Shane Richards and Zac Compton inside. All know how to step up when needed, and hustle for every loose ball.
I really believe that you could have any 5 on the court and they would be just as strong as the starters.
RBAY by 15-20. I think you'll find a couple of the guys purely out there to shut down Cab's scorers.

Game of the week Bay versus cab.
Who's big three will out shine the other?
Richards, Tyrus, Black or Reed, Upton, Houchin?
I think the difference in the game is going to come down to the other plays and who's supporting players can step up the most. Expect a combined 100-120 points by the 6 players mentioned above with neither teams "star" players really out scoring their counterparts.
Tough to say without having seen cab play this year but I gotta go with the home team in a close one. Bay by 4.

Hmm
This game I think will mean alot to Bay as the Suns beat them at home last season in the semi.
The big 3 from each team I dont believe can be stopped I think you just have to reduce there scoring.
Suns cant let Richards and Tyrus have 30+ each again.
Bay cant let Adam have 37 again.
Tight Game I think Bay will get them by 10+

Wasn't the reason why Gold Coast got up by so much because they 'didn't utilise their bigs enough'?
From their game against Ippy, it looks they have a well balanced side with some nice potential in their guard department and a fair bit of size. But, they're all too young, weak and inexperienced at the moment.
Who has ABA duties for the Clippers?
If Izzy, Harry, Jed and Lachy don't play, Bay by 10. However, if they do play, Clips by 20.

And why was it the worst performance in D-League history?
I was watching the Cab vs Seahawks game on court 1 and every time I looked over it seemed like the Warriors were getting fucked over by the refs. I proberly watched 20mins of the game scattered and in that time I think I saw about 10 very questionable calls and the SeaWarriors heads keep dropping. I'd even take it a step further and say that the refs have been noticably bias with inconsistant calls and have lost control of all 3 games I have watched. It is important that refs understand that someone will get seriously injured if they allow an already physical game to get dirty.

What name/number? Would be interested if it's the same repeat offenders from our game.
There seems to be a big gap in referees in D-league, either we get ABA refs on a day off which are fantastic, keep the game in control and let 'men play'. Or we get junior refs that show up and think they can walk up the court and relax like juniors..
Also - are the referees hired by the club for their home games? or is it a roster that gets put out.
or is it a roster that gets put out.
It's a roster, the home club has no say who gets put on the games, so they can't be accused of any bias.
Referee numbers aren't as great as what they used to be, so officials you guys would normally have, are now being put on QBL games - which means you guys get given officials with less experience. Not much you can do about it - just play through it because it won't get any better throughout the season.

Referee numbers aren't as great as what they used to be, so officials you guys would normally have, are now being put on QBL games - which means you guys get given officials with less experience. Not much you can do about it - just play through it because it won't get any better throughout the season.
Spot on. Its Aba Development League and that goes for the refs as well. If the game is getting dangerous (as it can sometimes at this age and with rookie refs) its up to Coaches to take responsibility for their players behaviour. Just chill and focus on your game.

I thought Cab defence was really good, zone defence Bay could only score from the out side, bays big man Zac I think was getting pushed around couldn't control his shots not getting many rebounds. It was a fast game no real stand out for cabs played well as a team. Bay didn't play has hard only 1 tec foul no one sent off this time, unlike the game against logan.

Houchin, Reed and Upton from the suns,Dan Richards or black for Bay, Izzy or Harry from Mdore, Bones from Redlands, Shane Coupland and Piok from Ippy, Athletic kid from Wizards who's name I cant spell.
I've almost certainly missed a couple of guys but any of the named players can give you 30 through out a game

Josh Blundell-Thornton from Seawarriors and Tayler Barry from Logan should be noted.
Yep extremely correct no one will go Undefeated this yr as the top 4 teams i see it are extremely close with the talent being good from 1-5 in those teams!!
Bay
Ippy
Cab
Logan

northside has a few athletic kids..has anyone seen the one who wears headbands every game? was doing 360's and catching alley's in the warmup? not bad for his size. I think you mean sioutu maiava though, as the athletic kid from wizards

Barry is a great player, played outstanding against ispwich. Josh Blundell-Thornoton well i have seen him play few times and has some potential thats for sure but i could near guarantee it was him in the referee s face against m doore on weekend. if he looses his attitude and gets away from the referees he is a real dangerous player

Josh Blundell Thornton is an unknown quantity every game. He can turn up and score 30 points or he can chuck the shits and score 2 points, only thing holding him back is his attitude. He is probably the only player on his team capable of scoring big numbers though.
Adam Tyrus is a good player for the seahawks, and Brent Shepphard can be dangerous for the Gold Coast Waves.

man some people must smoke something before they come on here. Coupland would lose more games for you then if u played with 3 players. He does nothing but shoot time he touches it and is way to slow to beat anyone off the dribble. If he makes your 5 then i think u need to start letting your guide dog do your selecting...

Bones is ok. he neva seems to take a shot and always jabs and penetrates. that can be easily taken care of. just deny the drive to the basket or help defense steps up n takes a charge. another words bonesy is preidctable and easy to shut down. southwest managed to shut him down in the 2nd half last week

Luke Cann, was supposed to be an upgrade on last years guards at ippy, and from what he has shown this year with 20% from the field and 12% from the 3 and 1 for 26 from the last 4 games. Im not sure if it could be possible, but he has played worse than all of ippys 2008 guard rotation.

Close game for the whole time with no team leading by 10 or more points, spectacular dunk by some kid on a Logan kid phew!!! 2 handed and I think the kid from Logan crapped his pants. Taylor Barry with about 15-20 points again, no real standouts from Gold Coast on the offensive end, they weren't shooting well.

Yeh me either. Just seems every week I turn up and my baby team is playing some half decent outfits with a few players who are on the cusp of ABA level. Seems to be a few serious ballers out there which is a change from previous when the drop off rate of girls in this particular age group has been chronic. Thought my kids were allright but we getting spanked each week but it's good as were improving every quarter of every game. p.s. would like to see the league renamed "Aba Development League" or ADL for short...just to take away the conotation that it's D grade for the youngsters.

Brisbane are tough. Schooled us. Run all night and apply the basics really well. Shame if they lose a finals position because of an admin mix up as you would be wondering if you really were the best team if you didnt have to play them. Let 'em play I reckon.

Hmm...dont think so. Most likely scenario will be pick a best of team (plus some experienced players) to go to the new downsized NBL and the seconds to play QBL. Coach is definately part of the plans.

Bit harsh. Of the 4 games they have played, 3 of them were against teams in the top 4 (ippy twice and the clippers once). And they lost to coast on coasts home court. They have yet to play northside, redlands, southwest and logan.
I think it is kind of silly the way bay have organized the teams though. They have one really stacked team where a lot of good guards sit on the bench the whole game, when they could have put a few of those guards in the warriors team to give them some gametime and the warriors a bit of firepower.

I don't beleive that they will be rethinking or regretting in anyway nominating 2 teams for D-League.
The word going around is that Bay were just short of the funds and sponcership to enter into the QBL and decided they wanted to stay in d league for another season. They have a experienced coach and a solid lineup (Tim Duncan included.. imagine if they had B Shepards cat?). I beleive the core of that team will be the QBL team next season.
Now, what do you do with the kids who just finished the rep program? let's have a second d-league team, chuck in some guys who didn't get minutes last year for a little guidence, chuck the juniors they want to work on in there, grab a coach that has plenty of junior experience that will learn heaps from the mens program and there you have a good YOUNG DEVELOPING group of kids who in the next 2 or 3 years will be either in the aba or very good d league players.
I think what Runaway Bay are doing is great. Developing a QBL project while developing their top junior players and coaches for the next level.
Seawarriors - You all think they're young, not strong enough and too inexperienced. They look like their average age is about 18. They're going to have to get their ass' kicked to learn guys. I think they will get maybe 3 wins this season but I think by September, we're going to see 12 kids that have improved out of sight.
Go ahead. Hate on them.
