Why is the MET EAST coach at under 14 classics?????? Watched a few games with a district coach, who no doubt only pointed out his kids. Some district players didnt get court time as the scores allowed bench players to have a run. The boys all knew the MET East coach was watching and were upset that they didnt get much time, yet a couple of bench players got alot of time and did play well, yet ordinarily dont get much time at all. All the boys realised that only one school coach was there and wondered if the team has already been picked. (guess we will find out next Wednesday). Unnecessary pressure at classics which has nothing to do with a school comp. Sure come and watch but dont sit there with paperwork and taking notes and with only ONE district coach who of course only knows his own players. I am wondering if anyone knows if a school comp coach is able to blatantly scout at Classics.

A school teacher on holidays is entitled to do as they please, got to admire his dedication.
Sounds like the kids are the ones with the problem , should be concentrating on the game and not who is watching.

So what if the coach was there!!!!!!!
I went and watched my club team members play BQJBC and they play for a different Assoc. Its called support. I always watch my potential selections at club level before selections are announced. If he did have his folder there, good for him for trying to get as much info as he can on the players to plan for his team. Maybe he is doing what all rep coachs should do, see the kids in their regular teams and see how they fit into that team and how they could potentially use them in the Met East team. Nothing wrong with it in my eyes.

Another thought is that he is scouting his up coming opponents , even smarter. When else would he get a oppotunity to see all of them together in one venue. Maybe the guy is a genius.

If you read the whole message, I think the question is WHY put pressure like that on 11 year old boys. Most of whom can keep their head in the game. Yes go as YOU did and watch club. District players have been chosen in all 4 MET East areas for a number of weeks, so go and watch them play club. Ok so now your going to say "maybe he wants to see them in a higher level of basketball". Sure I can even agree with that, what is hard for most youngsters to deal with is the FACT that what they saw was ONE districts coach only with the MET East Coach.
"Always watch your potential selections at club level before selections are announced", mmmm how many years have you been at this......2 I believe. I would certainly hope you dont select from watching club, I thought associations held trials for that??
If kids no matter what age dont fit into a team by the time classics are held then maybe that child doesnt fit in anywhere, or possibly the coach cant get the team to fit together.

Met. East coach was at Auchenflower again today. I find it reassuring that he is watching games at Classics, so he can see the kids play in their regular Rep. teams, where the best players usually stand out through skill, fitness and teamwork. Often at Regional trials the ball-hogging individuals stand out and teamwork may be limited, as kids try to impress the coaches in the few minutes they have on the court.
I would think that this year, with BQJBC stats. online and the U14 Classics being played in Brisbane, the task of picking the most deserving players would be easier (and less controversial) for the Metro regions

Stats on line doesnt show defensive plays, how many baskets blocked, no, they only show who fouls and who ball hogs to get the most points. Stats dont show leadership qualities, encouragemnt to fellow team mates, ability to listen to a coach or attitude on court.

Any kids shining above the pack?
All I can see on the web is point scorers. Looks like a kid from gold coast is scoring heaps, what's the story on him.
Also kids from townsville and run b.
Looks like Logan are going to run riot on the comp and self fulfill the 'dream team' tag

That was my point! The stats show a player's scoring record throughout a whole season of Rep basketball. Some kids may score heaps but they might jack the ball up at any opportunity ( a bit like many do at school regional trials) and can struggle against good defence.
The coach can compare the stats with observation of games at Classics to hopefully pick the most deserving players - the ones who play good defence, rebound, assist etc.
I think this is better than relying on a few short games at the Trials, where there are often players in the district teams who have little or no previous basketball experience and were only picked because they were the tallest kids at the district trial, and where it is often every man for himself.

A player can always trial well, but you can see thier team dynamics and attitudes towards their team mates during club. And just because I have been in BQJBC for 2 yrs doesn't mean crap.

It easy to get your average when you are in a team who know to pass to the kid who will make the shot, alot harder to get your average up when you are in a team that won't pass you the ball because they would prefer to make the harder shot and half the time miss. Then you have the teams thats don't care about being the top ten because if everyone is working as a team and you are all looking for the easy bankable shot that what make a team unbeatable.

You can see how excellent they played, just pointing out when kids look at Score Averages and they don't see there name on the Top 10 list doesn't mean they didn't do there best, and as you would know its about how you got to the stage of scoring. Which until they get older rebound turnovers and assists do rate as well as top scorers.

Agree totally. Maybe we should have scorebench statistics development for kids at classics and premier league as well as referees. Kids could learn to spot and record stats. It would help with everyone's understanding of the game. Get a head start on other states.

What The???
How have the players for the Blue Chip program been selected? How can BQ justify the omission of players from the Bris Silver team which won Div 2 and yet include players from teams placed much lower, even the winners of Div 3? At least one of the guards from Bris Silver should surely have been included! Isn't this a 'development squad'? Why risk losing good players to other sports?

Was thinking that myself alot of players in the other teams (top 4 Div 2 ) were better than lower placed teams players but won't get the chance because Div 1 got first picking. Very unfair should of been stand out players only overall both div 1 and 2. The next up and coming talent.

In winning the Div 2 Gold Medal at Classics, BBI Silver average score was 80 and average against was 45. This 35 point average winning margin included a 39 point win in the semi and 30 point win in the final.

I think it goes for all clubs I don't think top coaches realise how much kids idolise them and it doesn't matter wether its a nice word or just some incouragment or just to let them no you have noticed them and how well they are doing makes a world of difference to keep kids eager and happy to try even harder. This goes for all divisions. Not just the top teams. Wether you coach them or not.

Jake Quinert stats for classics. In 8 games scored 158 points avg. 19.8 points per game top points scorer for Div 2.
Yes div 2 is different level to div 1 but bbi silver were still playing against number 1 teams eg. Caboolture (4 players in squad) Silver defeated 3 times, Maroochydore (3 players in squad) 2 wins 2 losses, Redlands (2 players) silver defeated twice , Gladstone (?? north squad) defeated first game of classics. Silver beat all these teams throughout the year with the exception of Bundaberg (4 players in squad) lost by 67-59.
How can BQ Justify having a Noosa player in the squad for an example when Silver thumped them 90-26 at classics. I thought that State Classics is when you wan't players/teams to be playing at their peak Jake is proof of this.

30-04-09, 16:05
To answer your question.
The "noosa player" wasnt playing when u "thumped" them, due to injury. And for the record during the BQJBC season Noosa beat Silver once, and they beat Noosa once each.
I suggest you ask BQ directly why your son wasnt chosen instead of trying to slog other associations and players on here.

I expect thats why they selected so many players from across the divisions. Always tough to select at this age. You never know who is going to develop over the next 7 or 8 years. I guess they threw out their net and some talented players were overlooked. A lot of the big kids now may stop growing next year at 6 ft with post skills and kids that develop late may end up 6'6" with guard skills. Some may be motivated and inspired to improve by their selection. Cade Towers was a great example last year. More important to teach resilience to those that missed out. Its not what happens to you that defines the person you are, but how you respond to what happens. Hopefully they love playing the game and look forward to the next training/game, keep developing and learning. There will always be a place to play and there are many pathways to get to where they want to go. I do feel for those who missed out but it will not be their only opportunity or obstacle. Everyone has been through that experience of missing out but hopefully the joy of playing outweighs the pain and both are used to stay motivated. At the end of the day the guys who put in the hours and train hard at developing their skills and learn the game will be the players of the future.

Logan Coach PL
I understand what you are saying, and generally I agree.
Specifically in relation to the Brisbane Silver boys, a number of them would have thought they were very unfortunate to miss selection in the Capitals team at the start of the season. Performances of both teams during the season would have only reinforced this view. As suggested above, the best way to get over it was to work hard and await another opportunity. They did the work, the opportunity presented and they missed out again.
I understand that this builds character and the determined will continue to work hard & have another crack at the next opportunity.
Some of these boys have already made state level in other sports. Let's hope they decide to stay along the path of most resistence.

Aren't you being a little narrow minded, Mr Logan Coach PL? Big kids may stop growing at 13 (highly unlikely if they haven't hit puberty) but why would their bball development stop with post skills? Or is that just wishful thinking?

When you say they are you saying the coaches had no say in who was picked. It was BQ only on who they saw at classics. Most not all of the 2nd Div kids only got picked because they didn't have a premier team above them to take the spots. So in some ways having alot of talent in one Assoc compared to others is a disavantage to the kids who really did deserve a look in.

Great point and who fault is that that this seems to happen that way. We should be teaching all 1 to 5 positions to every player. If I had to bet on a tall kid who may stop growing to a short kid growing to a well above average height ( just to make guard position) later on i would bet on the tall kids every time.

Cade was never in the blue chip program, came over from Victoria Point PCYC very green and developed over the past 12 months with some great coaching from Dylan Salfi and Rebecca Dudic
Cade was selected in the equivalent program last year, that is being called the Blue Chip Program this year. It is the program from which the team will be selected to go to the Pacific Coast Slam in Port Macquaire. Cade developed significantly during the period of this program and is best reflected in the difference between his performance in Darwin, compared to his performance in Port Macquaire. Well done Cade. He has continued to improve thanks to the help from Bec & others within his association before & after the Slam.

If you compared every kid now and in 6 years, height wise it is going to be a lot different. Some finish at grade 9 some don't really shoot up until year 11/12. Highly unlikely that they have all hit puberty at 13.

It can be a disadvantage to be in a stronger team for selection. We subbed our boys 5 on 5 off all season most of the time. Over the season the minimum minutes played average was 12.8 minutes and the maximum was 16.6 minutes. Winning percentage was 195%. Any one or combination of the twelve could be the perfomer on any given game. I felt all my boys were worthy of the squad. Fortunately they have nationals to look forward to.
I am not sure who was selecting and did not speak to anyone at Classics. I did ring Rebeccca after Classics and emailed her all our stats for the season to plead my case for all my players.
The way I see it, it is more of an advantage to be on a stronger team if your talking about development. Every training was a challenge for every one of our players. They had good players to compete against for an hour and half every Tuesday and Thursday.

There is the problem right there. Let's not bet on the outcome, instead lets work on the process of teaching kids how to play and enjoy watching them grow.
I got a kid in my team from last season. He is 5'10 and has the mind of a big. He plays the 2 spot at the moment at 14yrs old. I would say he'll be at least 6'6 by the time he's 17yrs old and built like a brick ___ house. He will be 1 of the bigs for Redlands in U 18's - U 20's. And have the ball skills of a guard. Dangerous player now will be deadly in years to come. We as coachs do need to be developing all size players in the same fashion at an early age if Qld basketball is going to be successful in the future. Then when we have a few boys at 6'6+ then they will completely dominate at nationals.

WOW! I thought we would be cometitive with the top teams. Against Melbourne we were like a deer in headlights. Defensively we were capable of getting stops and we were stringing a few stops together including a shot clock violation. However we simply did not handle the intensity of defensive pressure. They were big and we we were always going to be up against it on the boards. Seldom did we come up with the 50-50 loose ball and they were very efficent in their finishing where as we struggled to take advantage of the opportunities when they came.
Our second game aginst Knox was much better, despite the score, we got better at being able to run our stuff. However we still struggled to finish under pressure and getting our hands to ball did not always result in gaining a possession on a rebound or loose ball. Again they were big and we managed to double from the weakside on the post and get multiple stops. They made the adjustment and started to pass out of the post and were nailing threes. It took us a while to adjust to scrambling out and rotating. They shot well. In all we were able to make teams make adjustments but they soon found answers. Our ability to make the right choices under pressure hurt us and when an error was made either on defence or offence it would usually lead to a score.
Sturt was our third game. We made progress in all areas. It was a team I think we could play with. lost by 25.
Frankston was our fourth game. We lost by 11 I think. Again we got better at make the right decisions and handled the pressure better.
Our last game against Hills we won by 8. We were in conrtol most of the game.
Sturt and Frankston were comparable teams to us in my opinion. We are definately better for the experience.
Bulleen won the final. They have a very slippery point guard some good shooters and some decent bigs. We played them with six players at the Eltham tornament over Australia Day and were down by 4 at half and lost by 21. So we have the ability to be on the same page. It is their ability to handle tougher defence and make good decisions under pressure which sets them apart. Plus they are big. Strange thing is Bulleen may not even qualify for the Nationals. They have to play Melbourne in a few weeks to qualify.
Where does that put Queensland in terms of standard of play? Our best teams are middle of the pack of Victorian Championships teams possibly pushing upper teams. Queensland teams generally need to work at playing better defence in PL.
Watched the U14 girls final Diamond Valley vs Dandenong. Diamond Valley had a girl 6'5" and Dandenong 6'4" and both team had good players across the court.
Spartans U12 girls did well. Great experience for them.
Thoughts anyone?

Good to see that logan are going down and playing in the local melbourne tournament like a few teams did last year in the u14 comp. The massive thing melbourne have over us in queensland is the amout of kids they have at there selection trials, knox last year had over 150 kids show up to a u14 trials last year, i was lucky to have 30 last year, its shown in the amount of juniors they have in there ass, knox have nearly has many as basketball qld, so in hindsite we cant really do much in the overall choices of which we have to select from. Sure they are bound to get some big kids its just theres 10 out of those 150 kids that are big and they pick 2 of them. and in qld we only have one to select from.
on the other hand vic gets the day in day out hard comp. if your talking about more in a basketball sense the vic kids usually get coached by different coaches all at the one ass, they play there club with one and they get rotated within the coaches and never really seem to have the same one, which in many different ways has its good and bad sides with players being able to take the good and bad with each coach and learn from different views, and when being stuck with one coach you get to know the structure and learn there views but on the other hand you become so comfortable when but outside your comfort zone, say at a nationals you have no idea what to do because you are so used to there imput so the coaching in vic and qld has the good and bad sides. i have talked to a few coaches last year and at the u14 girls nationals there was alot of stuff run to keep transition to a minuim such as everyone running back to what looked like a 2-3 zone but once the offense came over halfcourt they matched up, and the offense symply just could have no easy scores and had to run an offense to score, which in u14 if not drilled is very hard.
in terms of why are vic better, i can only talk from what i have seen. the vic kids are taught how to play rough and are very disiplined as a team and know what to do they run an offense at a very young age and stick too it, sure they have that one standout kid but he doesnt need to have the ball in his hands to get that 20pts per game. the guards in vic are very smart and have alot of ball handling work at which they do at home, they are given home programs so when it comes to on court training they are there with the team, so a lot of stuff is done before the coach gets to them, once again doing stuff at home is really done by the will of the kid and not the coach all the coach can do is give them the sources to improve there game and talent.
in my opinion i dont see logan nor townsville and runaway bay being in the top 6 at nationals, but i hope they do. ipswich last year had a very good run and could of made it into the semi's given there game against bulleen last year and another guestionable game too say the least

I think youve pegged it pretty well. Based on where we are at right now thats where I would place us. We need tougher games to prepare. We play against bigger and better athletes in our U16 club games but they do not play extended pressure D. Games against Bay will help. We certainly got better at making the adjustments as the weekend progressed. Need more of it.

Would having Junior Morris there playing made much of a difference?
Unregistered
14-06-09, 17:04
Junior would have made difference in our defence no question. He stood out as our best defensive player. We were capbale of getting stops and stringing stops together and creating pressure. We were not that good at handling pressure which was mainly solid half court D. No teams really got after us full court. Melbourne had a half court 122 trap.
Junior would have helped with his offence as well. Mainly his abliity to get past his man. Once we got past our first game, it was usually the next line of defence where we came unstuck. The size of the help and the consistency and quickness in the rotations created problems in making the right read and executing the right pass. It was something we had not experienced before and had to adjust to.
I suspect Junior would be able to break his man down. Its the ability to make the read on the help and make the right decision and execute the skill would be the factor in how much of a difference he would have made.
There was one guard there Christian Patracca for Bulleen that was probably the best talent. He was quick. Maybe not as quick as Junior in a straight line but his abliity to snake past players was amazing. Very slippery! He had great handles good vision and great hands and could shoot. A bit like Ralphy but more of an athlete. No disrepect Jason :)
Can we crack top six? Depends on the quality of games we can organize in our prepartion and then how we handle pressure in those games.

From my understanding the coaches from each team picked out who they thought should go from the premier teams if that Assoc had a southern team none of those kids got a look in , the coaches in the southern teams didn't get asked if they had anyone to put forward. Because I know our coach didn't know anything about it. And if you didn't have a premier team thats how the other southern teams got to put forward their kids. They should of had a day or two for kids to turn up who wanted to try out from classics seperate the guards and forwards/centres, and let the kids prove to the selction panel who deserved to be there. That would of been the fair way of doing it.
That way you don't have coaches only looking out for their own.

That sure doesn't sound like a fair system for selection. Why should coaches even be a part of the process, isn't that what BQ selectors are for?

There were coaches selected by BQ to pick from all teams at classics including Div 2 and 3

A lot of speculation here. Selection panel made selections over the Classics. All kids were looked at. I don't think coaches had much bearing, if any on selections. Plenty of players could have, should have, but didn't not just from Southern Cup teams. Move on

Thats alot of crap so your telling me the tall kid or any of the kids from toowoomba in 3 div were selected because he was better than other premier players and southern cup players this was not based on preformance this is supossed to be about development alot of southern cup players have developed maybe to same standard as premier players if not better where were their rights to have a chance. They didn't get one, so if you are going to do these programs do them right or not at all. We should look into scouts in this country like america looking for the talent in all Assoc so we aren't just relying on coaches and their views only.
And moving on isn't the answer. Thats the answer we have come to expect!

Everyone had a chance but some missed out, were overlooked or robbed, call it what you want. Your on the right track regarding development. If a Southern Cup kid has developed as you say then he should end up in Premier League in the next couple of years particularly if he is tall. Lots of tall kids selected on potential I guess. I am not privvy to the selection panel or their reasoning just pointing out that nearly every established player will have a "I missed the cut story" its how you deal with it that is important. Keep working at getting better! Blaming the system will only last so long. Time will reveal his ability to reach his potential.

Yes I do realize this, and I'm not saying he would of made it if he had the chance, just pointing out for future years and new ideas and ways we can fix the system, we have lots of kids who want to be the best they can be lets just look for a new fair system.

Lots of tall athletic kids in both boys and girls. Not necessarily well skilled but certainly the body types that dominate our sport. Might just be the kick start they need to develop their confidence and develop their skills.

You know when kids growing at a faster rate then the average size kid all their energy goes into growing most tall kids don't get into sports till later about 10 - 12 years so already they are behind average kids who are more active and are learning skills and faster. Even in their early teenage years they are still slower and unbalanced at first because of their size and feet. But as you wrote they are the body types that dominate this sport so when you see a tall kid don't look what they are like at first, look beyond that and see with great training and support what they can be. Remember tall but unskilled (can be taught) , small to average but skilled, both equal out till they stop growing. Both have their advantages and disadvantages.

Mitch was unlucky I thought he trained well. Jackson probably undersized looking at the size of the team. Zac can play guard and Harry was one of the few bigs who could shoot. Solid team. Good luck guys.

I can not see any guards on the list better than Junior! or 3/4 men better than Dennis
I think they either took themselves out of consideration or BQ made a decision not to pick them this year and get them next year.
Happy for Jack to be picked whether he played for Runaway Bay at Nationals or not what does that matter?
Size does seem to be a major factor in selection it seems a very big team but of the kids I know can not see many quality guards, which ones are the guards?

Why would Bq do that if they were better why wait to next year, the idea is to win, and if they took themselves out of consideration why waste peoples time other kids could of or should of had a chance to try out. Your given the chance commit 100% or don't bother at all.
And the only bigs by the look of it are from Bundy and caboolture so are all the rest not guards?

My guess would be they took themselves out of consideration too many other things on, BQ probably love to have them.
re guards I don't know all the kids that why I asked which ones were the guards, so you say the Bundy and Caboolture kids are big add them to Ringholt and Hall, McVeigh is a 4 man, Kochner and Gouw at 3, Young they say is a 2/3? so thats leaves Millar and Orbell as your points? I did not come away from classics thinking they were the best two point guards in the south?
As I said IMO Junior better than anything they picked!

2. Picked tall projects
3. No bottom agers
Looks like the way BQ wanted to go with there selections for the teams this year. Once you see that selections easier to understand. Interesting to see how the projects pan out over the next couple of years. Height helps no doubt but there are alot of other factors that make a good basketball player. There was a cut of age. Kids were told no bottom ages were being taken at the last selection camp. Bit stiff for parents to be asked to fork out the cash and told afterwards they were never in it. AT LEAST GIVE THEM A CHOICE! It is a development program and I can understand giving big kids exposure to different roles and see who develops. Young, Orbell, Miller and Kochner have potential to play point, give them an opportunity and see what happens. Size was definately a factor across both boys and girls teams. Hope they take advantage of their opportunity. With Mitch I think his atleticism, he had the edge on a few other players.

The system
22-09-09, 09:53
We can all find someone to blame but the reality of our current failures is ours to share. We have just kept on going down the same old same old system for 20 years.
The clubs down south are not only huge compared to our numbers they have a system where the elite play each other week in week out. Efforts by BQ to get an across town association competition going to try and mimmick what they have down south at least on a domestic level failed not for want of trying.
The fact that a coach can sub in 5 for 5 is testament to how bad we have become. I remember when the biggest effort from all Associations was at the youngest age groups. Now we have such a watered down competition where quality is only to be hoped for rather then expected.
I am not saying that every Association does not have the right to have a team in the competition but somewhere along the way sanity for the childrens sake must over come egos. Time for best to play againts the best on a regular basis. Regionals was doing that but simply because the north did not want it the south dropped it.
Do not blame those that are curently failing when it is us who have failed them by allowing the right for everyone to play to over ride what is best for the sports development. Be honest as soon as the Regional concept stopped the transfers from club to club rapidly increased. Why because everyone wants to go to where success is currently happening. That is creating a huge problem for the future. Do not shoot the messenger for stating what will happen.
All to often we see parents jumping clubs in the easiest option mentatlity. Rather then stay with home grown kids and working to make structure a better place it is way to simple to just take your child to winningest club. No matter that your child now shares court time with other great players rather then competing against them.
BQ are trying to do something but in reality the efforts are seen as fundarisers as lets face it the costs are way to expensive for what could be done on a rotational basis by a group of like minded associations working together. Sharing coaching techniques and making courts available would go a log way to getting the same success at no cost.
BBI and Districts are now talking rather then arguing and I am willing to bet that the players will be the biggest winners over the next few years. Maybe time for others to band together in adhoc regions to do the same. Yes players will still jumping but I am willing to bet those who stay behind will be the better people in life. They learn more from having a go then having a chance given to them on a platter.
Well enough from me I will crawl back into my hole and wait for those much wiser then I to tell me where I am wrong. History repeats and change must happen. Become part of the change or you may find you are the change.

The reason we could sub 5 on 5 off is because we are a team. A team, we have developed through the clubs everyone of them. Half of the team I have had since they were 4 yo in Smallsports. We have not recruited from other Associations unlike other Associations. We have subbed this way to give everybody an opportunity to learn and the pay off is we have the depth to rotate players. Now if you are going to bag me as a lazy coach I ask you to quote the number of hours I have put into coaching these kids over the last 3 years, the number of hours in helping establish Logan Basketball and South West Basketball. My coaching record speaks for itself across many age groups. Put your name to your post or least have some informed opinion, because you obviously have no idea.

As a parent of kids who have been routinely beaten by Logan and Townsville, for the last few years, can I just say I think Logan and TSV are awesome and have a coaching and playing ethos to be envied and copied by all.
Coaches give their all to their teams especially to get to National level, how dare any of us criticise anyone who gives up many hours of their working and family life to dedicate to basketball. ( And I have never coached at rep level, club is heaps for me).
No matter how these teams do at the Nats, well done and keep up the flag for basketball for all QLD kids.

Everyone just accepts that it is a level above and no one has a any solutions to close the gaps.
Does anyone from BQ perform any sort of analysis on why there is a 50 point gap between the best teams in QLD and Victoria ? How do you close that gap ?.
A few thoughts
Classics are a meaningless money making exercise , run State championships. Best 6 teams in State play.( 3 south , 3 north) The rest can play off in classics format if they want.
Align the Rep seasons to the NSW and Victorian leagues, no more starting, stopping for Xmas starting again stopping again , starting again for Classics. Rep Season would run from Start of March to End of July . Odd Age rep season would run in between main seasons
Kids need to play year round top level basketball , this is not happening at this time
Grass roots coaching of young kids is essential, skill levels of QLD kids are way behind that of VICS NSW and others.
Need to re-evaluate the worth of club level Basketball and is it providing anything more than a way for associations to fill courts, by this I mean does any kid really learn anything at club level or does the learning process only start when they are introduced to a Rep Program at 10 or 11 years old. That is a lot wasted years in between and this is where the gap is created and at present cannot be filled.
If nothing changes this conversation will go on and on , the System is broken and needs to be changed. Watch with interest next week in the 14 Girls Championships as the difference will be shown again.
My opinion is based an what I grew up with in Sydney as a high level player and coach and what I have seen since being in QLD for a few years now.
I hope this can start some meaningful dialogue for the betterment of the game.

Thats why each year you see the same kids in the same teams every year they get better because of rep only and thats if you have a decent coach if you are in southern forget it they don't care so you get what ever coach they can (crap) no development their, only the best get better and that not saying much hence nationals and then we have the ones who don't get in at all for rep and never will because their in nothing for them in the way of development. As for my Assoc, no development, its about putting teams together had having fun playing on Saturdays theres no competion at all within Assoc what we are doing is basic stuff. The top teams would be better off playing through out the year with other Assoc and the ones not need more development to bring them up to the next levels.
[QUOTE=Unregistered;20579]"we all know nationals is a level above and the standard of play in qld to vic etc just isnt the same "
Everyone just accepts that it is a level above and no one has a any solutions to close the gaps.
Does anyone from BQ perform any sort of analysis on why there is a 50 point gap between the best teams in QLD and Victoria ? How do you close that gap ?.

All he's done is ridden on the back of those players, subbing 5 in 5 out isn't anyway to coach but that's what he he did all season. Lazy coaching.
