After seeing the games on the weekend i can tell you Gladstone will be all over Bundy this sat night . I think bundy is the most overpaid team in the league for what they are producing . No wonder why kid Keirnan is asking for money . He is definitely worth more than half the guys on a pay schedule there . Vdogg i just feel for probably half the expense you could have had the same quality team but gone deeper with the roster . Gladstone up 20

A lot of speculative tipping this week, with not many people sure on who exactly will line up for each team this weekend ....

Cairns @ Townsville - Could go either way, with both teams very similar on the court. Chris Cedar v Kerry Williams is intriguing. I'm going with home advantage here. Townie by 6.

Gold Coast @ South West - Goldie's cupboard is looking bare compared to past seasons, with no Darraghs or Aucoin. Gurney is a great addition and will put in another typical blue-collar season, but he can't do it all. McGregor is on the roster, but would he even bother playing? They sure need him! Last year's overachievers are largely unchanged. Don't think they'll be as successful this season with the same small side. That said, I'll give it to them here. Pirates by 4.

Cairns @ Mackay - Mackay have the best backcourt pairing in the L, but the foward line is a question mark at best. I like that Kruger is still giving it a go, but he won't be that productive. Blanchfield and Jackson will have a lot of responsibility inside. Carins too much too handle. Fish by 7.

Ipswich @ Toowoomba - I'm not sure Ipswich will be any different to last year, probably on the same playing field. I would've liked to have seen Roger Smith play if those whispers were true. The Neers on the other hand have suffered greatly with the loss of Gurney, Grieve and an import. To their credit however they would be the most truly 'local' team this season, and they will play their guts out and won't be embarrassing, although in the end they are missing one or two gun horses which would see them challenge a few more teams. Anything can happen on the mountain, but I'll go with Ippy. Eagles err Force by 12.

Bundaberg @ Gladstone - Like what Vdogg is putting together now, but am choosing Gladdy with their continuity. Power by 11.

Caboolture @ Maroochydore - Coastal with two new imports, plus the usual suspects. I think they will get over TO Sykes/Gianni/kids. Suns by 13.

Northside @ Brisbane - Brisbane with a deep roster. No particular player outstanding, but anyone can get it done. Ben Castle won't put up spectacular numbers, but he'll provide great leadership on the court. Read a post about Trigger not playing, but I don't believe it. Will be interesting to see him and Zaremba work together. Brisbane by 8.

vdogg hasn't been the only coach to ever post on BD he's just been the only one to put his name to it unlike you...
not to sure why it's unprofessional to post on a public forum he's passionate about his team an he's defending them...
i would think it would be the same thing as players comin on here an talkin smack or defendin it...
so keep typin Vdogg altho sorry mate your winnin streak wont start until the 2nd rd :D

actually it would be good to know who all the coaches were. it is a bit disrespectful for bq not to show them on the team lists. maybe just a limitation of the shitty sportingpulse software. must not be enough room for the coaches as well as the millions of ads at the same time.

How about the girls games, this is my thoughts on them;

Cairns @ Townsville

Although the Townsville girls have been weakened this year they should still be too strong for the Dolhpins. Townsville by 20+

Gold Coast @ South West

Last years other finalist should be too strong here as there group is fairly stable with most returning from last year. South West by 15

Cairns @ Mackay

The Dolphins to start off the season 0 and 2 after getting smashed around by Rohanee and Tolo here. Mackay by 20+

Ippy @ Toowoomba

Coach Cockrem should be good enough to get the Ippy girls a first up win here. The Toowoomba group looks worse than last years which is a bit of a concern. Ippy by 10

Bundy @ Gladstone

Bundy will get the first look at the strongest back court in the competition in this one and will probably struggle to get the ball into the frontcourt. Hurst and Bibby to have plenty. Gladstone by 30

Caboolture @ Maroochy

Nice little rivalry between these 2 teams last year with Caboolture getting the nod into the finals in 2008. With Dallas and Stringer reutrning for Maroochy though I think they might get the W here. Maroochy by 10

Northside @ Brisbane

With a new coach at the helm can the Brissy girls turn around a couple of dissappointing seasons. New blood also at Wizards with some Logan girls crossing the river. Should be the closest game of the round. Go with Brisbane at home by 4.

American recruit Leah Rush joins Cyclones (http://www.themorningbulletin.com.au/story/2009/04/23/american-recruit-leah-rush-joins-cyclones/)

The new Rockhampton Hog’s Breath Cafe Cyclones signing arrived yesterday ahead of her team’s QBL season opener against defending state and national champions Townsville at Hegvold Stadium on Sunday week.

Rush has played professionally in Europe and the US since graduating from powerhouse American college Oklahoma, with her latest playing adventure in Spain.

In a strange twist of fate, Rush almost joined the Cyclones last season but she eventually declined, only to link with the Chicago Sky in the WNBA.

Drafted at No.27 in the 2007 WNBA draft by Phoenix Mercury, Rush will give the Cyclones another offensive threat while also providing the team with a little more size.

“I’m a versatile player. I’m a team player, I like to give my team-mates the ball. I like a team game so I’m looking forward to getting started with these guys.”

Caloundra Suns hope recruits will lift them

12:00a.m. 24th April 2009
| By Steve Zemek (http://www.thedaily.com.au/staff/steve-zemek/contact/)

After completing a wash-up of the 2008 QABL season, Caloundra Suns women’s coach Paul Saltmarsh walked away with a shopping list.

The first items on the agenda were height and scoring prowess.

And now after a successful off-season recruitment drive, Saltmarsh says the Suns have a side capable of matching it with the best in the competition.

“Last year we did a great job to get to the finals but realised there were downfalls to our side,” he said.

“We needed one or two more bigs or scorers and that’s what we went out to recruit this year.

“So far, it looks good on paper but we’ve just got to put it together now.”

The team’s biggest boost will come in the form of towering American centre Traci Edwards.
Edwards, who hails from Wisconsin, Milwaukee and stands 188cm will arrive on the Sunshine Coast in two weeks time.

She’s set to form a formidable centre court combination with fellow recruit, 183cm Simone Grant who has QABL experience with the Rockhampton Cyclones.

The Suns also look set to shore up their defence after luring former Northside Wizard Renee Skirving, Tasmanian import Shayna Poto and Vanessa Power, who comes to the club fresh off a four-year stint with Franklin Pierce University in New Hampshire.

And now, after falling to the all-conquering Townsville Flames in last year’s preliminary final, Saltmarsh said he’s hoping the side can go one better this year.

“Last year we made the top four, it was the first time we’ve made the top four which was brilliant,” he said.

“Unfortunately in the finals we had to meet Townsville who were still on a 48-game winning streak and are the Australian champions, let alone the Queensland champions.

“We believe we’ve now got the players that can match it with the top teams like Townsville.”

The Suns begin their season tomorrow night when they take on the Maroochydore Clippers at Maroochydore Basketball Stadium in the annual Sunshine Coast grudge match.

“We’re looking forward to it,” Saltmarsh said.

We are still working on the webpage for livestreaming, hope it is up this week. The first games to be done will be the Bris/ Cairns and the Rocky/ Tville next week. If site is not ready games will be available in archives next day. These will be accessed through www.courtlive.net also QABL website. We have had a long hard journey to get it to this point, and hope the fans will be happy with the results. The centres available for livestreaming are limited as the internet is not fast enough, but we hope that during the season more centres will upgrade when they see the product.

Townsville Flames post huge first-up win (http://www.townsvillebulletin.com.au/article/2009/04/25/50635_sport.html)

AROON Edgar took just one game to justify her move into the starting lineup, guiding the Townsville Flames to a thumping 38-point victory over Cairns last night.

Edgar was a dominant force at NPA Stadium, nailing a game-high 21 points in the 82-44 win as the Flames picked up from where they left off to open their QBL campaign.

It was a different story for the men as the Heat were thrashed by the Marlins by 27 points.

In the men's, Cairns were far too good for Townsville, who were missing Crocodiles NBL star Cameron Tovey, running out victors 111-84.

Toowoomba brings back American import (http://www.thechronicle.com.au/story/2009/04/24/toowoomba-brings-back-american-import/)

TOOWOOMBA Mountaineers import Ezria Parsons is prepared for the 2009 QBL season to be one of the hardest of her life.

An inexperienced Toowoomba squad and rival teams laden with WNBL players will put the 26-year-old American under intense pressure to perform.

This season Parsons will switch from her usual position of power forward to point guard to help lead the scoring for the young Mountaineers.

NORMALLY claiming a Queensland Basketball League (QBL) opening round match was a galactic battle would be an exaggeration, but for the Bundaberg Radiology Bulls it has some truth to it.

The Bulls will be heading up the coast on Saturday to face derby rivals Gladstone, a team led by former Star Wars actor and 210cm giant Michael Kingma.

Meanwhile, the under-strength Bundaberg Radiology Bears remain confident, despite facing a tough task against Gladstone's women's team.

YOUNG gun Ryan Jeffries, veteran centre Ryan Stolberg and hard-working team man Dan Robinson are all that's left of last year's shambolic Ipswich Force men's team.

An injection of new players - including Townsville Crocodiles big man Steven Broom - along with the return of veteran coach Terry Lindeberg, bodes well for tonight's season opener against the Toowoomba Mountaineers.

“Toowoomba have lost three of their best players and they've gone for all locals.

Lindeberg was doubtful if 2.05m centre Broom would make his Ipswich debut, after the 21-year-old aggravated an existing shoulder injury at training earlier this week.

If Broom misses tonight's trip up the range, 40-year-old American Mike McDaniel will move into the starting line-up.

McDaniel, who Lindeberg describes as a “very fit 40”, returns to Ipswich 15 years after the club brought him out from the US.

Fans will get their first glimpse of Australian Opal Rohanee Cox in Mackay colours tonight when the Meteorettes and Meteors hit the court at Candlestick Park for their first game of the QBL season.

While fellow recruit Marianna Tolo lined up for the Meteorettes in their trial games last weekend, Cox only arrived in Mackay yesterday ahead of tonight's clash against the Cairns Dolphins.

In the absence of Bairstow, Meteors' coach Leonard King will be in charge of the women as well as the men.

Meanwhile, the McDonalds Meteors face a tough opening challenge from the Cairns Marlins, who have several NBL players on their intimidating roster.

Gladstone 112 -100 over Bundy. Vdong sure needs to do do some work with his bigs, real impressive stats there Labka and Lewis for the minutes they played 2 - 16 from the field and a whopping 5 rebounds for 41 minutes. Unsportsman like fouls. Vdong I sure hope your not paying them much especially when you had a bench full of locals in Jay Cambell, Justin whoever and those kid twins.

mr Ben did you go to watch your Wizard boys play, Do you have a match report?

Caps got out early, with their defensive pressure upsetting the Wizards flow. Having league starters Timmy Smith, Beak and Fergie coming off the bench was a great advantage as well, whereas the Wizards had Toby Z and Chewie in street clothes (but you can only play with what you have).

With auto double/triple teams, Trigger took a while to get into the game, but got it flowing after the first. Ended up being a tight game after the first, with the result not decided until the final minutes.

Caps didn't have any outstanding individual performance, which was to be expected. For the Wiz apart from Trigger, SD nailed a few triples, and the unheralded Josh Van Damme had a surprise 16 & 8. JD didn't have an outstanding game on paper, but he proved capable of looking after the ball and will produce more as the season progresses.

Thought the Caps women got a scrappy upset win as well against a side featuring Megan Michael and B Abbott.

"Turn the hill to shit" Havent heard it put like that but thats exactly what you do. The "W" doesnt have 'Ugly' after it on the scoresheet...just "W". Some teams in the league would be very grateful to have the roster Mackay does. Might take another year or so of excuses or the cheque book goes dry but Mackay will catch on eventually.

Anybody have results from Coastal v Maroochy games, and Mackay v Cairns men?

An electrifying atmosphere as the Coastal fans matched the home crowd in numbers and volume at Maroochy.
Maroochy led for 70%-75% of game but when Coastal got the lead (during the 3rd q) they hung on for a 6pt win.
Yes, unfortunately Ajayi had a collison on his way to the ring and was taken to hosp but not aware of that outcome.
Houchin(Ben) top scored for the Suns with 21 and Tueta (Isaih) and Sykes had 25 and 23 for the Clipps. The Suns dominated the boards 54/44 but the Clipps showed well in assists 23/19, turnovers 17/24, and steals15/11. Fouls were equal (so no bearing at all!!!) and field goal %'s were close @46%(Suns) to 41%(Clipps). {From the stats sheet}.

Clipper women defeated the Suns earlier in another close one and the Suns won both D League games.

Kyle Kiernan 23 had a great game and Hanson impressed me with 37

Our boys played a great game with Cochran 21, Negas 28, Simmo 23 and Wookie 15 the standouts

funny you bring up the lack of offense on a team that scores 100 and lets in "116".. maybe keeping kingma, their 4 man , blair smith and all big men to a combined 34 out 116 pts was maybe one reason they played. just a thought
heard the refs didnt help out much either!!

yeh all the points in the paint came from their guards gettin loose balls and second chances

thats why the y had 54 points in the paint think wookie only hit a couple of shots inside and a couple jumpers.

Suns goal hits hurdle (http://caboolture-shire-herald.whereilive.com.au/sport/story/suns-goal-hits-hurdle/)

THE Caboolture women’s basketball team’s goal of making this year’s QBL Grand Final hit an early hurdle in Round 1 on Saturday night.
Paul Saltmarsh’s side went down 64-56 to rivals the Maroochydore Clippers, despite a strong showing from home grown talent Marnie Saunders, pictured.
The 23-year-old vice-captain hit 15 points and made three steels, but lacked back-up against Clippers stars Kirsty Dallas (21pts) and Kristina Innemee (26pts, 9 rebounds).

Meanwhile, the Suns men’s side beat the Clippers 103-97 on Saturday night, with Ben Houchin (21pts), Michael O’Neill (15pts, 9 assists) and Hayden Reed (15pts, 4 steals) impressive in a strong team performance.
Bit in a major blow, new Canadian import Martin Ajayi will miss up to six weeks after fracturing his cheekbone in the opening quarter against the Clippers.

A PACKED Kev Broome Stadium was given a double dose of high performance basketball as the first home games of the QBL season resulted in two wins for the home teams.

The Yaralla Port City Power women, despite being without player/coach Jessica Bibby for under a fortnight, gave the crowd a performance that resulted in a standing ovation.

Daniel Simanic got the Yaralla Port City Power men off to a flyer with three, three-pointers in the opening minutes of the game.

Recently returned from representative duties, Aaron Nagas also started strong scoring consistently and managing to get through the Bundaberg Bulls' defence.

Clippers coach lands first-up win (http://www.thedaily.com.au/news/2009/apr/27/clippers-coach-lands-first--win/)

Quite an initiation, but Hauser passed the acid test with flying colours after the Clippers sent their home fans home happy with a 64-56 win.

Eighteen-year-old Kristina Innemee, a product of the Clippers highly successful junior system, was simply brilliant in her first senior match for the franchise.

The forward finished with 26 points and nine rebounds to show she’ll be a handful for opposition defences all year. Kirsty Dallas was also impressive with 21 points, seven rebounds, six assists and an incredible nine steals.

In the men’s match-up, Caloundra exacted some revenge with a hard fought 103-97 victory over Maroochydore.

The Clippers actually enjoyed a seven point lead at quarter-time, but the Suns outscored the hosts 31-18 in the third quarter to set up the win. Ben Houchin (21 points) was the top pointscorer for Caloundra, while Isaih Tueta (25) and new import Dante Sykes (23) impressed for Maroochydore.

Observations from Round 1.

North
Would it be fair to say that Cairns slipped under the radar during preseason, because after a double road win on the weekend, you would have to say this team is legit, and people around the league are taking notice.

South
Suns import injured in first quarter, but they still hold on too get the win over the much talked about young clippers on their court. Good win for them.

Bris Caps contain the trigger (held to 29 &14), and their depth at the offensive end pulls them over the line against the wizards. 5 bris players getting double figure points. everybody else doin their bit with 5 points.

Women
Is anybody else out there thinking what im thinking? Townsville's winning streak will end this coming weekend if not on saturday night verse gladdy (who impressed verse bundy), but having to back up on sunday against an improved rocky outfit will be tough.

Was at the Cairns v Townsville game on Friday night. The Marlins looked very balanced and none of their stars tried to outplay each other. Williams, Grabau, Vale, Brebner all played their part. All had double figure points without scoring over 20. Deba George is a great spark for them off the bench. Rowan Gray adds size and muscle. Brebner was impressive hitting some big shots from the post and outside the arc. For Townsville, Chris Cedar was completely a non-factor and without Tovey the Heat battled to get their offense going until Josh Jenkins and Anthony Susnjara picked it up. Neither had massive scoring games but those two were the one's to provide resistance to the Marlins offensive onslaught. Many teams will feel the wrath of both these teams this season. Cairns need some depth though. They only ran an 8 man rotation until junk time.

thought i was looking at the gals box score when i read that, dont know if anyone saw that coming looks like SW weren't shooting in usual style or maybe it was alot of good D by GC...
McGregor answered the question by whether he's playin or not, by playin 40 an scoring 20, but who's Shaun Gleeson?

Cairns are Legit wit a 1st 5 an some bench guys all with NBL experience if they aren't benchmark for POD they need to get new jobs and i dont know if any teams ran any deeper then 8-9 players til junk time..

Bundy wont finish last, their White seppo's got game he's their go to guy but they got enough aussie talent to see them beat a few teams

potential players of the week? men and women!

Does anybody know how each week's awards are decided? It's fair to say they haven't always gone to the most deserving player in the past, and some transparency would be nice.

Here are the primary contenders for Week 1 ....

WOMEN
Arron Edgar (TSV) - 21 /9/5stls in 24 mins v Cairns
Jade Abele (GC) - 20/11/3blks in 36 mins v SW
Marianna Tolo (MKY) - 23/16/4ast in 35 mins v Cairns
Rohanne Cox (MKY) - 30/9 in 31 mins v Cairns
Ezria Parsons (TBA) - 12/21/6stl/4ast in 35 mins v Ippy
Jess Bibby (GLA) - 29/12/5ast in 28 mins v Bundy
Nat Hurst (GLA) - 33pts/6ast in 35 mins v Bundy
Kirsty Dallas (MAR) - 21/7/9stls/6ast in 38 mins v Coastal
Kristina Innemee (MAR) - 26/9/3stls in 40 mins v Coastal
Bianca Abbott (NOR) - 20/17 in 39 mins v Brisbane

MEN
Dave Gurney (GC) - 25/14/4ast in 40 mins v SW
Aaron Grabau (CAI) in back-to-back goes 19/12/4ast v Townie and 20/7 v Mackay
Anthony Tribe (TBA) - 30/11/5ast/5stl in 32 mins v Ippy
Ryan Stolberg (IPS) - 31/19 in 32 mins v Toowoomba
Aaron Nagas (GLA) - 28/7/6ast/3stl in 33 mins v Bundy
Matt Hanson (BUN) - 37/7 in 46 mins v Gladdy
Cam Tragardh (NOR) - 29/14 in 45 mins v Brisbane

I think credence should go towards players featuring on winning teams in tough games. Kirst Dallas should be a shoe-in. The men's ledger is a bit tougher, and I would be happy seeing either Grabau, Nagas or even Tribe (yeah his team lost, but not a bad effort in under three quarters of a game).

Props to the Coastal kids in Ben Houchin and Hayden Reed who got it done over their more fancied younger counterparts. Both played over half a game and shot the lights out.

WHAT THE of the week goes to G-Love ake Steve Glover of the Neers. 2/11 from the free throw line ... I hope you had a broken hand or something. Maybe Nagas can give you a few tips ......

Gladstone stars outplay Bundy (http://www.news-mail.com.au/story/2009/04/27/bulls-and-bears-no-match-for-star-studded-gladston/)

BIG names featured for both the Gladstone men's and women's sides in their first round wins against the Bundberg Radiology Bulls and Bears on Saturday.

Australian Opals squad members Jessica Bibby and Nat Hurst combined for 62 of Gladstone's 107 points, leaving the Bears awestruck as they ran away with the victory.
...

Van Dongen still had plenty to take from the game, with import Matt Hanson scoring 37 points, and local Kyle Keirnan racking up 23.

“I think we shot the best of any team from the three-point line, we've got the tools, but it will take a little while to get on the same page,” Van Dongen said.

Maybe TECHNICALLY the correct call, but the RIGHT call would have been to realise that the clock hadn't started and therefore either consult with the bench or other refs, or just tell them to pass it in again while telling the bench to start the clock.

But TECHNICALLY, both benches should then have been thrown out as both teams emptied their benches (to shake hands) before this all took place.

So because its not the "right call" even though technically correct, that somehow gives Glover a reason to go off so much that he gets ejected by a young official? shows some good leadership.

Really surprised no mention of young Isiah Tueta for the Clips mens. Kid was the most effective player on that team all night for his full 40 minutes. Does a lot of stuff (that doesnt show on stats sheets) in defence and organising/finding players dictating tempo etc but also scored 25 pts without anyone noticing. All with no histrionics no jawing referees or teammates and no 'coaching' and criticising teammates. Realise he may not have been the "MVP" of the league that night but I'd venture there were no other bottom age U/20's that had such a positive impact on their teams performance as him. (Include Blanchfield in that too).
Coastal kids may have played half a game and hit a few but Izzy played 40 mins and top scored. Thought he might rate a mention?

Nothing wrong with the refs calls on that game - but some of those sideline hecklers wearing official Toowoomba polo shirts should modify their behaviour. A little leadership by the big loud chick with the short hair would be nice. Even a few manners.

The language in that game both by some senior players and by some of the crowd was quite appalling. You certainly would not want your children to go to any of their games.

Maybe if Toowoomba had some refs of their own they could use them instead.

No, you are quite right in that Glover stepped out of line, and I am sure it will be dealt with appropriately. I didn't hear what was said but I am sure it must have been unacceptable and was correctly dealt with by the official.

However the issue of how the game is currently being reffed, not only at this level but also at junior levels, needs to be addressed. I am not sure where the directive is coming from from there seems to be a 'culture' of reffing 'technically correct' instead of understanding the game and reffing accordingly. I am sure it doesn't come from Scott cause he is one of the better refs who understands what and when to make a call, and when to use warnings, or talk to the coaches.

This btw is not a reflection of the game the other night between the neers and ipswich which I thought was very well reffed and one of the few I have seen where the three refs worked very well together.

I am sure who I am responding to, whether it is a ref or Ipswich supporter, but either way you should probably take a look in the Ipswich basketball stadium for much of the development coming out of Toowoomba.

As for 'Bad sportsmanship', I agree this is not acceptable from either side but I do recall that there were a number of technical fouls and unspotsmanlike fouls being called during that came and 90% of them (yes, 9/10) were called on the Ipswich players. And I have the video and stats sheet to prove that :).

But never mind, it was a great game. I am just sorry you obviously don't feel the same way...

Mmmm... with the sport in crisis and sponsorships on the knife edge it appears this may become a weekly rumble that develops into a chorus as the season goes on. There were some real doosies (very troubling actually) at the game I attended. Troubling because the blatantly obvious incidents that happened within 3-4 feet of dozens of people were called the wrong way by a referee who is definately old enough and supposedly experienced enough to know better. (So just what is she thinking???) Never mind, first week back, maybe she was just rusty. Good job to the young kid who reffed with her in his first ABA game and made some understandable mistakes but on the whole was actually more accurate and in control than her.

This is the folly of whoever decides the chook raffle upstairs at BQ.

Jess Bibby good numbers yes. However numbers came against sub-par competiton (sorry Bundy girls), and she had an all-star playing alongside her.

Surely Dallas deserved the nod here. Maroochy played with a no-frills squad against a better side (on paper), and she no doubt would've worked her arse off. What a shame.

I am sure BQ would be open to suggestions if anybody have a better way of doing it. The problem is that nobody can attend ALL games, so the best way to do it at the moment is to look at the stats and read the game commish's report for each game.

The one thing which is probably a little controversial is that the BQ office try to spread the awards throughout the state so that every association gets a chance to get some media coverage from it.

Heavy collision sours Force's win (http://www.qt.com.au/story/2009/04/28/heavy-collision-sours-forces-winning-start/)

DOMINANT Ipswich Force centre Ryan Stolberg faces a nervous wait after suffering suspected rib damage in Saturday night's season-opening win over Toowoomba.

The 34-year-old showed little sign of slowing down in the Force's 111-99 Queensland Basketball League men's victory against the Moutaineers, racking up 31 points and 19 rebounds in just 32 minutes of action.

However, x-rays will determine if a collision with the Toowoomba Basketball Stadium grandstand caused Stolberg any serious injury.

Force coach Terry Lindeberg conceded if Stolberg was forced to miss Friday night's match with the South West Metro Pirates it would leave a massive hole in his team.

For the mens, Gladstone point guard had 21 points 9 rebounds and 9 assists. thats a solid effort and may get a look in for player of the week.

Yes agreed. and with the QBL rosters loaded with WNBL tallent, why wouldnt you advertise that? much more interesting to read. This is not to say Bibbys stats wernt deserving. And to the guy who is in love with Dallas from Maroochy, no1 really cares about the Maroochy vs Suns game. Maybe when u play Northside this weekend your team might get some recognition (cause Nthside have WNBL players. hahaha)

Im guessing that POW awards for women will be dominated by WNBL players this season.

As for the mens POW im going with one of the cairns boys, any one of them who posted good numbers in 2 away games should get the nod.

Were you watching the game? the bench made an error, but Toowoomba inbounded the ball, and 22 threw it back at the ref thinking time would run out, therefore correct call is out of bounds, Ippy ball. He then went off at him... pure class.

I was watching the game, but unlike you I also know the rules. If a Player throws the Ball out of Bounds with the clock stopped, it didn't happen, so the Correct call would be Toowoomba Ball out of Bounds again. When Glove pointed this out he got Teched, then he went off. Not the right thing to do and BQ will do what they think is appropriate. So I'll say Glove will have to wear what happens from saying whatever he said, didn't hear it but was obviously something, but the call was WRONG, and then the ref teching him for questioning why it was Ippy ball was wrong again.

A shame this is the hot point of discussion from what I thought was a good game. Toowoomba played better than expected and Ippy held on, 34 turnovers and all for a good Win. If Stolli's ribs are ok, the first of several this year. Maybe not playoffs but far better than 2 of last year.

so the best way to do it at the moment is to look at the stats and read the game commish's report for each game.

Who is the game commish for each game? And what exactly do they do?

To early for full week two predictions as yet but the Brisbane / Cairns game has to be billed as game of the round. These two teams will be the powerhouses of this years comp and it should be a cracker. All basketball fans in Brisbane should get down to this one if possible and try to revive the auchendome to it's glory days! Caps in a close one by 5

don't think gurney plays for tba anymore.
and hell anybody throwing up 31 shots should be able to hit at least 9.

i can see why he left the neers. with glower throwing up 29 shots there wouldn't be enough shots for anybody else.

haha...yeah he left the neers bc everyone stopped kissing his arse. had to start over in a new town good luck gc with mum's boy. he's still the man in his head...how about sharing the ball gurney this is a team sport

So Tribe wins the second round of chook lotto this week. I must say he put up a good line, but I agree with what someone else said ... it's a bit rough throwing this to someone whose team was well beaten.

Surprised by the mountain hate towards Gurney. The guy is all class and talent.

Gurney would still be welcome in Toowoomba but we wish him well with the Gold Coast. His departure was because he bought a house down there we both he and his partner work. Good numbers for him in the first round, and his shots obviously didn't hurt the team, they won after all. And really, who else on that team is gonna get em up.

wow big wraps there for the youngester. But the two coastal kis top scored as well for the team and also got them the win. depends what you'd rather i guess. :)
Yeh winners are grinners but rating individual play is easier when one finishes but one creates and finishes. The Clips loss certainly wasnt in any way connected with the kids performance. Hope he finishes the season with the Clips but. That game tape has been requested OS. Did you know people are able to "watch" some games and monitor the stats from other countries? Far out!

Mmmm... with the sport in crisis and sponsorships on the knife edge it appears this may become a weekly rumble that develops into a chorus as the season goes on.

Was that the maroochy v coastal game?

I thought the reffing was excellent. Sure there was a few missed calls here and there but that is always going to happen. The players seemed to not want to play adv/dis in the first quarter, (used to local league maybe?) but then started playing back at the normal standard

The atmosphere and game were both great. Was excellent to watch

Who said it was a guy???
Fark you better hope Dallas has a shocker this weekend or your gunna look even more stupid than you sound right now. Hahaha. Course no one will ever know who you are to laugh in your face if Dallas shines again....would they? Shouldnt be too hard to spot the WNBL groupie but. Your reputation precedes you. Hahaha.

Age proves no barrier on path to award win (http://www.thechronicle.com.au/story/2009/04/29/age-proves-no-barrier-path-award-win/)

MOUNTAINEERS forward Anthony Tribe is testimony that age is only a state of mind.

The energetic 39-year-old yesterday picked up the QBL round one Player of the Week award after going head-to-head with Ipswich’s NBL big guns Steven Broom and Ryan Stolberg in Saturday’s 111-99 defeat.

Tribe’s dogged approach was just as effective in attack as defence, collecting 30 points at 64% and adding five steals to his haul.

one quality ref, with two rookie/unexperienced refs.
the lead ref must have been of a very high standard if the game wasn't that bad considering.

sorry i was talking about the womens game as there was only a mention of two refs. the mens game was fairly well controlled. with the two inexperienced showing, but everyones still developing, for two rookies they performed excellently.

dont get what the poster above this one is saying ...

Reckon theres at least one of those "WNBL Players" pretty glad that Shannon Profitt's Oceania licence isnt processed in time for her to play against them tonight. Guess it's only Maroochydore and nobody cares so these things take a little longer. Besides she doesnt play WNBL.
