coast got beatin by south west by around 25 tonight. south west played a good team game with gold coast crumbling with no team structure and or leadership. teys and brents contest was about the only interesting thing in the game with the game deteriorating into something scrappy and boring. steve leo played for south west controversial because he was not on the score sheet at the start of the game and was only put on there in the second. he was dominant and showed glimpses of actually being a good player that he has showed in the past all in all coast will lose and be no contention in the finals arena with south west big contenders for the title

The 2005 team lost a game and still won Gold. Maybe these boys like the extra pressure? Should shake out any complacency anyhow.

More info on the game. Boys take on the Vics at 3pm today
Game 10 - U20 Men - QLD - NSW - 7pm
What a game last year's Grand Final replay turned out to be. Queensland's desire to win the 50/50 balls was evident throughout the game, resulting in crucial rebounds and quick transition baskets. NSW appeared to be loose with the ball in the first half with a number of turnovers and missed opportunities under the basket. Two big slams just before half time provided Queensland with the impetus to take the game to a new level in the third quarter. However, some accurate shooting from beyond the arc enabled NSW to keep in touch with the fast flowing game of their northern rivals. Josh Black's (NSW) look away passes seemed to be the order of the game, resulting in some timely passes. Although Queensland seemed in control for the most part NSW showed that they were a well drilled and controlled team who are able to pull out the W when it counts.
NSW--92 - (S Harris-Tunks 18, T Goodall 15, P Brotherson 13) defeated
QLD--87 - (C Steindl 21, B Teys 16, B Motum 14)

QLD spanked by Victoria by 20+. Now they are out of it maybe they'll just go and play and we see the real showtime this team can produce. Exactly the same as 18's in Adelaide for this group. Sad.

Yep. I was at the Bullets game when they announced this team, and my first thought was 9 guards = no chance. That style only works when the "big guards" are great defenders and rebounders (Shawn Marion for example), and no offence to Zac, Clint and Brock but that is just not their strong suit. The individuals on the team are all very talented, but they just don't fit together well as a team unfortunately.

Every titles it is all about offence , when will they learn that there is only one ball on the court. All of the successful teams have roll players to do just that , i just look at the number of assists to see they aren't a team . Sometimes you just have to make tough decisons and pick a balanced team and leave a couple of ( so called ) superstars at home.

Agree. And then play the superstar talent you have at the clutch times rather than turning it over to the most inexperienced players on the team. Having a knowledge of the athletes and their strengths, weaknesses and idiosyncracies through the years is an essential component of State coaching as well as knowing the same about opposition players from previous years.
Expect Bruce Palmer to finally step up to the plate and win it with them next year...hopefully.

QLD when allowed to just play easily the class team of the tournament. Individual talent to burn. Page Salecich Motum Young the best players in Australia. Guys playing out of position and weird combinations and rotations leaves them struggling and under pressure constantly. Team wise Victoria head and shoulders above rest of the field. Smashed SA today by 40+. Victorian teams been semi prepared and mediocre in 20's in recent years but this one has been together 5 months and shouldnt be beaten at this tournament. QLD has the players just not the team. This group will win next year if Shane Frohling coaches them.

Someone has to tell the other teams , would you mind just letting them play . Every year we say the same thing (best team, best players , unlucky AGAIN) if only this person coached or what every.. Now there can realy be only three answers to this . One they are the unluckiest bunch of guys going around. Two the selectors and coachs have no idea how to pick a balanced team or we have been over rating these guys for years. i am going with three.

Doubt you would be going with the third option if you saw them play. Choose any explanation or combination thereof you like out of the first 2 but "over rated" simply does not apply to these individuals.

How about we just say it like it is. Stop making excuses for them. They are meant to be the best in the country. No defence, no win. That's it. Coaches need to realize a team must gel and complement eachothers games. There are at least 6 players on that team who are the best 1 on 1 players in the state. Can anyone tell me how many of them worry about defense?

All of them buddy.
Even more, thay play it with a skill and intensity that we rarely see in Queensland. You would do better to wait till after and the wash up before you apportion responsibility for the surprise underperformance of the team. Some of those boys ARE the best in the country. Yes, there are lots of things a coach must realise when coaching this group, including that very fact.

to be honest i am sick to death of people criticising players in the league who are trying to play their hardest and stamp their own authority apon a representitive basketball game where as the so called super stars who are going of to play for australia are to busy trying to play for themselves and restrict any team moral and or chance of winning. this is a dissapointing characteristic that has developed in queensland basketball in the last couple of years due to some players being viewed as having better natural ability then others however do not contain the work ethic needed to be apart of a successful team. in saying that with the announcment of the emus team its easy to see that people who dont play defence and can just jump hi in the air which is good for show but doesnt necessarily win basketball games can take positions from people who are willing to put their bodies on the line and dive for the ball (so called 1% plays which use to be a main fator within a basketball game). as players people can only do the best they can with what they have naturally been blest with(athletisism, determination) however its the ones who breeze their way through into teams which they should never been apart of because all they did was have their parents write a letter to coaches who are involved with "govenment jobs" and present an opportunity for that coach who never played anything higher then D grade mens or womens and all of a sudden fake a resume and get handed a WNBL assistant coach job where as previously attending the under 18 mens tounament and determine who is playing when and where becuase the coach would never make his own decision but only sit or stand there with his hands crossed and never say one word which could be viewed as possitive and or inspirational enough to ever win games against the likes of ACT and NT. sorry all of a sudden i have gotten side tracked from the main point that i was presenting and that is of have championship teams are not necessarily made up of great players that are simply made up of mediocre players who are determined to make their own greatness through hard work and endless hours in the gym and dont rely on their natural ability.

Not sure exactly what your trying to say and it sounds like a very disgruntled unsuccessful applicant for a WNBL assistant coaching job. (Dont sweat it you dont ever want to be Orlick's assistant just ask Tang. You'll be peeling potatoes and washing uniforms.) Interesting thing about 'fake resumes' and attending the under 18's tournament but? Have heard a bit of a story along those lines from a couple of Victorians about some bloke from there pulling that one up in Queensland. Thought it was all scuttlebut. What have you heard?

Why is Brent Sheppards name the only one mentioned when the coast team plays.
There are 10 other players in the team that all put in 100% whenever they are on the court.
yes Brent is a great player, but the team should be what it is all about.

yes that may be true on the weekend brent started and finished the game very strong an was a key contribitutour all game but carlin watego lead well at the point got our half court game going as well as allowing jake krause and carlos correa to get open shots which were being knocked down at a high percentage.
also in the 3rd quater adam brown hit some big shots was a rock on the defensive end including marking tease in the last 3 mins and did an outstanding job also adding to the course was chris kirks rebounding and solid inside play.
just remember you all wrote us off at the start of the year we are 11 deep and in the grand final and even tho we beat brisbane a couple of weeks ago it means squat now and with drew back its giong its going to be tight and a great game to be involved in..
i just hope that next year we will have the under 20s comp with the possibility of even a classics tournment

that is funny that you say that you go 11 deep when a single player will step up (brent) COMIN OFF THE BENCH and score 30 plus in half a game sounds like he is just one of your 11 players. . . . i think that you have to understand that when you have a player at the level that brent is you would at least start him then you would analyse the game when he is hot like apparently he was on the weekend and maybe run some plays for him to get open. i have seen one game and that was coast playing brizzy and brent was like a ping pong ball off the court on the court off the court on the court and then when the coach decided to put him on the court for a little while (last quarter) he actually got a chance to do something. that is just my analysis of the game. when and where is the final on the weekend

why he hasnt started is my choice he has started games this year but i like to coach with a little bit of diffrence and be a little unpredicable not that i have to explaine myself to any one here.
brents points production this year has been great and he is finishing games strong for us.

Brent's cat has been approached in secret by Gold Coast Basketball to take over coaching the U/20's. Apparently they like the idea that the current coach has about being "different" and stuff with his coaching and reckon having Brent Sheppard's cat coaching and his dog dunking in warm ups will be all time "different". Brent buying in new cat food and kitty treats to try and get more court time.

I thought it was funny as. But getting back to the game, Brissy to strong across the court. With Drew back it just gives them to may options, Goldy won't be able to match up. Some of the coast boys may be good players but reality is only Brent is up to the class that Brissy has.So it's Brissy by 20 unless Brent's dog gets a run.

Kirky, Carlos, Nash, Mitch (Cameron), Matty (Moore), Russ Grant, Dylan McVeigh add Rooey from Jimboomba then Mitch Young and Steve Lio Willie and you would have a past champion QLD regional team. What's happened with those guys anyway? I know Steve is playing/coaching at SWM and Mitch Young is playing for Australia or sumthin' but what about the rest of them? I heard Mattie Moore is set up in a Surfers Paradise penthouse alternately playing gigalo to rich older women and then playboy stud to younger glamours...typical!Mitch Cameron was the fastest, most athletic and gutsiest left hand guard I ever saw.

good game unfolded today at auchenflower with brisbane winning the final by 8. coast had there chances with a good strong game coming from all involved including the player your all love to hate brent sheppard. he was coast top scorer with around 30 followed by carlin. brisbane played a good game with a stong effort from drew with 30 plus and chris smith hitting some keys shots late in the fourth quarter. it was interesting to see how coast crumbled starting with their point guards with pushing the ball up the court early and made some poor decisions for all the gurads involved. it was always going to be tuff for coast with the class or brisbane shinnning through in the end to win the game. congradulations brisbane we all knew that you had the team to win the competition

I've read enough anonymous trash talking, particularly now the season has finished. If you have a point of view feel free to voice it without the use of profanity, unjustified sledging or simply cheap BS.
Simple rules to follow really. Keep it clean.

good game unfolded today at auchenflower with brisbane winning the final by 8. coast had there chances with a good strong game coming from all involved including the player your all love to hate brent sheppard. he was coast top scorer with around 30 followed by carlin. brisbane played a good game with a stong effort from drew with 30 plus and chris smith hitting some keys shots late in the fourth quarter. it was interesting to see how coast crumbled starting with their point guards with pushing the ball up the court early and made some poor decisions for all the gurads involved. it was always going to be tuff for coast with the class or brisbane shinnning through in the end to win the game. congradulations brisbane we all knew that you had the team to win the competition
congratulations to both teams on a great final. but a couple of points need to be mentioned, it was a very close game all the way through, but a turning point in the game came from the refs. how unprofessional is was to change refs at half time. a replacement ref was put into the game at half time because the other ref had to run a fitness test being done at the stadium at the same time. what a load of BS. this game was being refereed brilliantly up until then and then a new ref with different views on how the game was played came in , i am not saying the outcome would have been different, i'm saying it changed the game. also for all the supporters that came to watch the game what a pittiful effort for a presentation, should have been done in front of the crowd for everyone to see. there needs to be a forum before the start of the next under 20 comp to sort out why these guys not only had the least amount of games, no classics, and didn't have there grand finals the same weekend as everyone else, if we want this comp to work, lets get this shit together, all the boys in the under 20 teams deserve better than what they got, they get themselves to all the games without parents there to push them along and they committed themselves 100%. come on QBI give these guys a fair go. as a manager of a team, i could not have been more proud of the conduct of the boys through out the season, it was an absolute pleasure to be involved. good luck to all other teams through to finals next weekend.

top game of basketball. Thought Brissy may win a bit easier but credit to the coast as soon as Brissy would get in front by 5 to 8 coast came back. It was anyone's game untill the height factor came in and last quarter Brissy started to pick up second and third shots. For brissy Drew played well very much one out stuff. Chris Smith hit some pressure shots with quite a few other boys chiping in . I would have thought with the height they may have used it better. For the coast it was hard to go past Brent not so much for his points but his D in transition was full of effort . Some of the coast boys steped up with a big play but the turnovers killed them. Didn't see a lot of games this season but the one's i did were great entertainment hope they get it together and run it along same lines as PL.

Well said. It's the league of the future and will possibly attract much better sponsorship than might expect if can be run professionally. Why not put together a committee between Clubs and approach BQ to run the comp yourselves?

Just heard that those "over rated" Queensland U/20 players at the A.I.S. were instrumental in beating Russia by about 20 points this morning our time. How are we ever going to convince them that they cant play and dont know what they're doing if they keep that up?
Dam overrated smart asses, probably wear thongs too!

Aussie Boys beat Russia this morning by 10 to advance to the quarter finals from what i can see will play Turkey who defeated Germany this morning,
Totally agree some of our QLD boys have received a lot of sh#t from various wannabe coaches couple of the boys being labeled as over rated and have got nothing give to the QLD team let alone to the Aussie Team , all i can say to those people is i hope that the humle pie tastes good and lets hope you dont choke on it (KARMA) ,The thing is you know who you are and so do a lot of people ,Im glad you guys are not coaching and picking our future talent pool ,
To all the boys Good Luck and i hope you do Aussie proud

Maybe your mistaken about just who it is that reckons these guys are over rated and them not being coaching anymore and picking our future talent pool. Maybe not. Depends. Appears a number of the better more experienced coaches are leaving the game because of the antics of BQ and it's employees in the coaching scene.
Im assuming you realise the references to "over rated" kids (in inverted commas) is a tongue in cheek jibe at the posters who claimed these guys are over rated when they lost the recent Nationals. These kids are the best group (not individuals) that QLD has ever produced and the majority of team members, parents and even coaches from other states recognised what the problem was in Albury.
Fantastic that they've progressed beyond round one in Germany and hope they can keep going as the competition becomes tougher and tougher. Main point is they are there representing their country at the highest level while some knocker sits at home on their computer over rating their own importance.

Aussie boys beat Sweden by 20+ to keep Semi berth alive ,QLD boys have done well ,crunch game against Turkey need to win otherwise need to rely on Sweden to beat Canada who got belted by Turkey this morning ,also looks like there might be a couple of injuries in the Aussie team couple of boys playing big minutes which might take its toll down the track , Good luck to the boys great effort so far.

The proposal for change of classics dates has nothing to do with accomodating an U/20's classics. Its about the World Chamipionships and the changing of U/16 and 18 Nationals. Great to have an U/20 Classics and first or second week of December would be ideal. Allows them to select state team in time for February Nationals.
