SATURDAY
Caboolture Suns vs Maroochydore Clippers - Liking the Clippers here after a couple of impressive performances. The team really seems to be gelling. Should be worth seeing.
Bundaberg Bulls vs Gladstone Port City Power - Central derby here. Can't see anyone slowing down Matt Hanson or Jason Moor however I think Gladstone have a little more depth.
Mackay Meteors vs Rockhampton Rockets - Wonderful game to see, if Cook gets on top of Martin Meteors win.
Toowoomba Mountaineers vs Northside Wizards - Tragardh with his new running buddy will get it done. Tragardh 50 and 20, Gibson 20 and 14 dimes.
Cairns Marlins vs Gold Coast Goannas - Grabau and co to smack the Goannas around.
Brisbane Capitals vs South West Metro Pirates - Capitals to get this despite being very inconsistent.
SUNDAY
Townsville Heat vs Gold Coast Goannas - Mike Cedar to play in this one and alongside Cameron Tovey the Heat will win. Not sure if they can stop Scott McGregor though.
Meteors and Rockets is gonna be a blinder. The worry is containing Brown inside.

Word is Mackay the smokey's! What odds you got?
Scott is trying to train tonight and make decision then. Less than 20% chance of playing at present.
good morning afternoon evening or night all due to an amazingly busy work schedule due to my Bookies being in quarantine all week with the pig cold, we decided that this weeks method of determining the winners is all Alphabetical... now apparently there are some genius's out there but if you cant work out how fate selected the winners i'll leave the answer at the bottom..
Suns vs Clippers
masssive local derby with Clips getting more action on here then a pretty boy at kings cross... $35 on Clips
Clips 3:1 Suns 5:1
Bulls vs Power
always a good game in Rum city, i'm hoping the boys get it done here cos we've already planned the party for the way home... $1 for every game i've played on Power
Power 7:1 Bundy 17:1
Meteors vs Rockets
no Glenn S means someone else has to try stop the energizer bunny, dont think they have any1 that can.. Rockys 1st loss of season comin up... $13 on Fitz
Mets 3:1 Rocky 4:1
Mountaineers vs Wizards
i think cam t will let his boy Gibson get his groove on here but he'l still take 30 shots an get 40+ an sit out a qtr feel sorry for neers havin to play strongest wiz team so far this season... $55 on Wiz
Wiz 2:1 neers 11:1
Marlins vs Goannas
lots of cheap flights from GC to Cairns because they both resemble lit tokyo but marlins are like Godzilla compared to the GC goannas not to mention the locals refs are alot like a 2 left legged table.. $77 on Marlins
Cairns 1.7:1 GC 6:1
Capitals vs Pirates
pirates haven't reached the heights of 08 maybe everyone is expecting them now or they just aren't shooting at the same clip as last year either way Caps must be getting tired of gettin called the OLD team... $24 on Caps
Caps 2:1 SW 5:1
Heat vs Goannas
this game would be a different story if it was played first up but lit lizards would of been humiliated the night before an trust me it hurts the ego playin in Cairns... $16 on Heat
Heat 3:1 GC 7:1
fortunately if you looked at the 2nd letter of each teams name the alphabetical order also coincided with the team thats going to win this weekend (e.g. a beats d, i beats u etc etc)... if your looking to waste your money on gambling how bout u go visit your local lady in red an get some value for it...

Scotty won't make that big of a difference - his D is solid but they have other players to play the role he does...
It will all depend on two things - Who from Mackay can stop Brown and Golson? and who from Rocky can stop Fitz? as I think Rhys and Cooky will be a great match-up.
I still tip Rocky, they just know how to win - Rocky by 6
The other cracking game will be SW v. Brisbane - The mighty caps old boys vs. JC and the young guns...
Beaky to have 20 plus, and Kevi "The glove" Calder to lock down his old buddy Jason Cameron.
Caps by 6

Hammy's fine, says campbell (http://www.themorningbulletin.com.au/story/2009/06/12/hammys-fine-says-campbell/)
Rockhampton Stadium Nightclub Rockets captain Tony “TC” Campbell yesterday declared himself a certain starter for tomorrow night's blockbuster against the Mackay Meteors.
Campbell, 34, missed the Rockets' 98-83 victory over the Caboolture Suns at Hegvold Stadium last Friday night with a hamstring injury, but the veteran guard said yesterday he was ready to return against arch-rivals Mackay.
The news isn't as good for Rockets starting guard Glenn Scott, who is expected to be sidelined for the third straight game with ankle ligament damage.

Brothers combine talent on court for Clippers (http://www.thedaily.com.au/news/2009/jun/12/brothers-combine-talent-court-clippers/)
He is older, taller and more experienced than his brother, but Maroochydore’s Josh Tueta still has a point to prove.
The 202cm forward has been quiet by his own admission this season, whilst his 18-year-old brother Isaih has been averaging 16 points a game in his second QBL season.
The Clippers will take the court against Caloundra tomorrow and will be hoping for redemption after losing to the Suns 103-97 earlier in the season.

great to see him back in the league and think if its not too late for them to make finals they are a real chance of winning.
I thought susnajara and toovey would be there restricted players so how does cedar fit in there??
These north teams seem to get away with restrictions somehow......

they have guys to fill the role but not at his level and fitz will stop Golson it's really only brown they have to worry about cos Kruger n Duck only have 6 fouls each i think kruger will smack aucoin get him angry an out of his game which jus leaves 3 big time players left for them to stop and golson doesnt like contact in the key which mackay seem to like to dish out but i think they have enough scoring power to stay with them in Blanch, cook fitzn Rassie... i'l stand by my alphabetical order theory an take Mackay by 0-10pts..
glad we played tville twice already mick is the scoring power option they needed to get em to the next level with rocky n cairns an maybe Wiz but yea Crack no idea how the rules are working with those north teams...
thanx for the shout out too...

I wouldn't think Sus was restricted as he didn't play squat in the NBL season. Doesn't the rule mean you're restricted if you average 15+ mins or similar?

Tovey was their only restricted player until Cedar signed. Susanjara didnt play enough minutes to be restricted, he was deep off the crocs bench. Nothing strange going on here!

Am expecting things to change in Townsville. The crossroads have come and they've brought in Mick Cedar. Tovey heads to Serbia for the University games soon so Brad Williamson may well be added as well. The uptempo style coach Rob Rose wanted to have is gonna be intensified and the Heat will try run you off the floor. If you can keep up you will probably beat them.

Coach gives rocket (http://www.dailymercury.com.au/story/2009/06/13/basketball-meteors/)
Mackay Meteors coach Leonard King is urging his players to maintain intensity ahead of tonight's round seven QBL blockbuster against competition frontrunners the Rockhampton Rockets at Candlestick Park.
With the McDonald's Meteors currently enjoying a six-game winning streak, King conceded that, with some urgency missing from training this week, he was nervous the players were “starting to feel a little bit satisfied” with their efforts so far.

Suns guard not fit for cherished derby (http://www.thedaily.com.au/news/2009/jun/13/suns-guard-not-fit-cherished-derby/)
As far as Coast rivalries are concerned, Maroochydore-Caloundra QBL fixtures rank right up there.
They are the matches each player strives to flourish in, but for Suns guard Ben McGlynn, it just wasn’t meant to be this season.
After going under the knife for a routine knee operation before the season’s start, surgeons found more trouble than they expected. The result has seen the wiry guard sidelined for almost three months.

Cedar, Brassard return (http://www.townsvillebulletin.com.au/article/2009/06/13/58671_sport.html)
FORMER Townsville Fire captain Claudia Brassard and Townsville Crocrodile Michael Cedar will make shock returns to QBL action tomorrow when the Flames and Heat play the Gold Coast at NPA Stadium.
Forward Brassard will come out of retirement to add extra depth and experience to the Flames line-up while Cedar has enjoyed a break after playing with the Crocs last NBL season.
He could be the boost the Heat need after a mixed start to the season which sees them sitting eighth on ladder with four wins and four losses.
"He'll be playing regularly for us and because (Cameron) Tovey will be away in a couple of weeks he'll slot into his role," Heat coach Rob Rose said yesterday.

No offence, but if you guys can't deliver, don't say you're going to be hosting live games. If you were professional enough, you'd know the internet was shite at a particular centre.
I saw screw the video streaming, because the quality that I have seen is poor in detail that one has trouble determining who a player is. Perhaps if you want to be successful, go for audio broadcasting.

BJ you sound like a very bitter person, we have been trying to work with the centres to sort out their internet problems which are many. this has not been trialled before and i am sure is a step in the right direction. yes its disappointing to drive thousands of klms as you have been told its this or that to find out people have no clue, but they are prepared to change things. The feedback from lots of players is fantastic, lots get a really good reception when we do get it going, and we wont give in yet. Gotta ask though, why did Cam T play 42 minutes in a game where his team won by 70? Is that some kind of joke? Did the guy just want to get his numbers up? He is a star of the league and when Gibson plays only 23 mins in the same game you have to ask yourself what was the point of him being in the game for so long? Pretty selfish if you ask me....
Honestly believe toowoomba would struggle to win the d league. Which is not exactly ideal for an ABA squad.
An overstatement to say the least.
I have a lot of time for the Neers boys, who will likely not get a W this season (as per Moochy last year). I particularly admire solid players such as Glove, Reimann and Tribe who could easily have sat out the season to watch the wreck unfold, but have continued to give 100% each week. The whole team will be better for the experience in sticking it out, and if they can build on their core for next season (ie an import or two if there is any $$ around) then they'll go back to being for competitive.
As for Trigger playing 40+, wa a bit surprised as well. I can only guess that he got that much of a run because either 1. he was gunning for a single game record (anybody got it? I think Beau Pack from Mackay has held it previously??) or 2. he needed a long run because he's off to Boomers camp shortly. Still would've thought Diesel and Toby would've got some more PT, but I'm certainly no coach.
take away cam's points and the neers only lost by 2......
his average is now 42 points a game this season which is unreal, I thought he was too good for the league last year and I would be very surprised if he returns next year.
I enjoy be a witness to somebody scoring 70 points so I am happy he played 42 mins. IMAGINE IF HE PLAYED ALL 48??????

If there has to be garbage minutes, I want to see some entertrainment, eg. 70pts from a player or some dunks.
It's got to be entertaining to attract some $$. I'm all for Trigger to player 40+ minutes a game if he is gonna shoot 85+% from the field.

And it seemed like they enjoyed the show that was put on. Cam T has boomers camp this friday and I imagine wanted as much of a run as he could. Gibbo played 23 mins cause he has been to 1 training and just got to town. Cam T works harder than anyone else during the week and gets to play 1 game so god forbid he wants to play.
You were singing ryan jeffreys priases last week saying what a star he was. POW goes to him when Trigger had 57 on the next best big guy in the L. You wanted a reaction from Cam, looks like u got one.

The second quarter wasn't without controversy, after Rockhampton's Jason Aucoin was ejected from the stadium after receiving two unsportsmanlike fouls and one technical foul.

Germ? Because he does what his team needs him to do. To do what he has done his whole career. Either you are a poor loser and were supporting Rocky, or you have absolutely no idea what you are talking about. Congrats to the Meteors on an outstanding win with contributions by the whole team. Maybe this person did not see Golson shaking his finger every time he made a shot and trashing it with a 17 year old. I'm a Toowoomba person and I was still glad to see Cam play and score as much as he did. We are struggling as a Team but we still want to play against the best players as much as possible. It's the only way our roster can get better during this tough year. Cam's nature on the court is outstanding. He had 45 at the 1/2 and probably could have had the same in the second but instead if he didn't have a good shot, he turned it down and passed alot in the second half.
Gibson was just taking it easy and was almost a non factor, although he did bring some improved defence to the team. Wiz will def be a force as the season progresses with his addition when he does need to play hard.
Oh, and Glove and Rudy would carve D-League up. Not to mention Piok was the MVP there last year as well. And our bigs struggle against Cam T, Scott McGregor, Dean Brebner, Steve Broom etc... but D League is a different story in the middle. Anthony Tribe has enough tricks in the bag to teach the kids a thing or two. So talk about the facts and how we're struggling in the QBL, but don't put up shit like that, we all know the difference between the two leagues is massive, more so this season than ever. And we'll be back next year, with some holes filled and winning our share of games again too. Put a player like Cam in a Neers uniform and we'd have lost very few games. Put a player like Grabeau in an Ippy uniform and they're doing well too.

Kruger is a tosser. Needs to play the game properly instead of being a sly dog. I wouldnt be proud to have anything to do with him.
Saw both Capitals v South West games on Saturday night.
Women's game was a pedestrian affair. Was anyone's game until the fourth quarter when South West put it away with a few passing drills leading to easy baskets. Washoping to see Kaity Peddie and Leeara Creet go hard against the Wallis sisters. Some poor shooting at times by both teams with numerous open layups botched. Erin Brady the game's best leading her troops well around the court.
Men's game was a better spectacle. Again tight until the fourth quarter, where Beaktron 3000 took over and scored a bunch of key buckets. Pirates opened with some hot outside shooting whereas the Caps went inside for theirs. JC started on the bench for the Pirates, then came on and scored eight points for the quarter, including a big trey on the buzzer. Was held scoreless for the rest of the game. Tommy Ammar looks like a machine these days, looks like he's grown a bit more and put on twice as much muscle. He was dangerous whenever he had the ball and there certainly wasn't a shot he didn't like. T2 ad Nate shot well.
Latts had a good start for the home side until he accidentally got clobbered in the face. Had a rest then came on again in the second half for a few more power moves inside. Barty was dependable as usual, although I counted four blocks (two on Lio Willie in the space of a minute) and he was only credited for two.

I believe perhaps the Rocky people may be dare I say it sore losers. Are you proud how your crowd behaves toward opposition players, are you proud when your team do things to win that may be questionable, are you proud that one of your star players did not have the composure to control himself during a game. I do not think Mackay baited anyone or were sly with any of their actions. For two or three trips prior to the incident things were going on and the refs were paying attention and one player lost his cool. If you want to blame anyone blame your player. I think it is time someone actually stated how well the Meteors played and give credit where it is due instead of baseless excuses. I do agree that the manager was out of order and can not condone his actions, but you should not condone the poor decision making of your team.

Our players arnt sly and if they want to do something they will do it in front of the ref rather than on the sly like your player, and yep we will take the consiquence. Like we did! I cant see anyone on here wingeing that jason got sent. Its the reason he got sent. Cant wait till finals!!!! By all means great job by a few of the Mackay players on Saturday night.

Perhaps a little one eyed but that is fine. What you consider sly others would call hard nosed and others would call smart, whereas your opinion seems like you agree your player did something which I would call dumb. Why whinge about the reason he was sent if you know what he did?

Good to see the traditional Mackay/Rocky rivalry resurrected and alive and well!! Things got a bit boring up there after Townsville got all professional and wouldnt fight anymore. Left the rest of the North to only "hate" on them out of jealousy then-boring! Sounds like Aucion and Kruger should be renegotiating their contracts to include appearance bonuses now for lighting up the public interest again. Bring back the biff!!!

It's common knowledge that Kruger has a reputation for being volatile. I guess Mackay are just used to him being like that.............EVERY game. Other teams don't necessarily have the pleasure of such a performance on a regular basis, which is why I guess they react when a situation like the Mackay/Rockhampton game happens. Saturday's game was a classic case of table's turned and for a change it wasn't Kruger getting the foul. You can guarantee though that it will be him again...........over and over throughout the rest of the season. Let's see if he and the Mackay supporters react when the shoe's on the other foot.
I must say too that it's one thing to be a player behaving badly on the court or a spectator mouthing off, but it's quite another when the team manager puts on a disgraceful display as the Mackay manager did Saturday night. Nice thing for the kids in the crowd to witness him handling his privates in that manner. The Meteors should be proud to have him part of the team.

i think volatile may be the wrong way to describe kruger. he is very measured in everything he does. yeah he plays it hard... opposition fans etc would say dirty, but he takes it too. and he doesn't whine about copping the hits he gets.
with kruger you know what you are going to get, and in reality he is the type of player which every team wishes they had on their side.
and by the way he works over his own guys just the same at training.
he is not just a thug he is very experienced and knows his limitations, which are many.
kruger just does what he does, and he has for years now
An overstatement to say the least.
The Australian record in ABA is held by Damien Anderson with 75 in late 90's. The Moose also shot 19 three pointers in that game. Any record that is set this year by anyone in any league is only recognised in that competition. There is no ABA anymore.

Are you serious when you say Kruger doesn't whine??? I've seen the guy on the floor on his knees complaining to refs...biggest whinger i've seen since coming to watching QABL games...He may have experience and that's great for the young team in Mackay but no need to be a thug on court...

I would have thought after 22 wins straight you could be a little more gracious in a loss instead of bagging an individual who did nothing wrong, other than have a reputation, and being a major factor in his team winning with his defence on Brown and rebounding. Worry about your own players and stop bitching about others

I'm sorry, but have you read any other comment on this forum?? I hate to break it to you buddy but a forum is all about commenting on the good, bad AND the ugly. It's ok for someone to bag a player from a team, but it's not ok for anyone to respond? For the record, my comment said nothing about "bagging" an individual or his game play so you might want to read the comments properly before YOU go "bitching" about others. If you can't handle what's being written, maybe you shouldn't read it at all.

Rockets, cyclones smoked (http://www.themorningbulletin.com.au/story/2009/06/15/rockets-cyclones-smoked/)
ROCKHAMPTON'S hopes of hosting finals basketball in this year's QBL took a massive hit in Mackay on Saturday night.
The Rockhampton Stadium Nightclub Rockets and Hog's Breath Cafe Cyclones both suffered their first defeats of the 2009 season on their northern road trip.
The Rockets crashed to a controversial 97-79 loss to the Mackay Meteors - ending the defending state and national champions' 20-game winning streak.
The Cyclones, who were missing Australian Opals star Abby Bishop, lost 85-68 to the Meteorettes.
Neves electrifying as power downs the bears (http://www.gladstoneobserver.com.au/story/2009/06/15/neves-electrifying-as-power-downs-the-bears/)
DIANA Neves was on fire in the QBL at the weekend when she was three points shy of posting a half century.
In an outstanding effort, 22-year-old Neves scored 47 points.
With assistance from player-coach Jessica Bilby (28 points) and Katie Rose (15 points), the young guard lead the team to a 112-102 win over the Bundaberg Bears.
The win was the start of a successful road trip for the Yaralla Port City Power with the men's team also downing the Bundaberg Bulls to register back-to-back wins.

Bottom line is that Rocky should take the bad reffing call to the tribunal. Aucoin shouldn't of gotten sent off if kruger wasn't....and to the person saying that noone premeditated the ejection...the fact that in this forum all of last week i read that Krugers job would be to get Aucoin ejected. And for that sh**ty mackay manager..i hope someone got that on tape or it be on the website game tape...he should be fined and/or sacked and make a formal apology...the wanker.

Northern v Southern all-star game a la Big V charity exhibition. My teams:
North - Aaron Grabau, Dwayne Vale, Cameron Tovey, Anthony Susnjara, John Fitzgerald, Scott Cook, Todd Blanchfield, Reggie Golson, Rhys Martin, Justin Brown, Matthew Hanson, Michael Kingma.
South - Cameron Tragardh, Adam Gibson, Shane Davis, Steven Broom, David Gurney, Scott McGregor, Jason Cameron, Tommy Ammar, Ben Castle, Zane Meehl, Dante Sykes.
In my humble opinion the Northern team wins by alot. This is something the QBl could look into I reckon, gain some interest in the league and add some flavour.

I'm keen to hear what happened with the Maroochy/Coastal local derby as well. Maroochy would be absolutely filthy they dropped both games.

I am a Mackay Fan but also know Jason and you obviously did not see the incident, because he did nothing. I'm the first to admit I love seeing Mackay beat Rocky but watching a player unfairly be dismissed is a disgrace. The refs lost control and started to panic. They should have stopped and talked to both of them a few play phases before, but didn't. So before you start jumping on the Aucoin hating band wagon, get hold of a game tape.....

Good idea in a perfect world, but will never happen due to travel distances and costs. Big V are able to pull it off as they play in a condensed area and very little cost was incurred.

I just watched the tape....the first incident between the 2 is kruger hooking aucoin on the post, for which kruger is called for a foul (even though he walks around parading, thinking he just milked an offensive foul), 2 mins later they get caught up in back play and the ref tells them to get on with the game and gives them a chance to actually play, then a minute later a) aucoin gives kruger a 2 hand shove in the chest on the post, then b)turns around and shoves scott cook who is in mid air doing a layup
Then aucoin points and tells kruger he will meet him out in the car park, they both have words and are both given technicals
and so why didnt he deserve to be tossed out?
2 unsportsmanlikes on the same play, first is excessive contact AND not playing the ball in any way, the second he turns around and blatantly pushes an airborn player about 2 seconds after the first whistle, which is dangerous and well outside the profesional conduct of the game

Who are you and OPEN your eyes fool. You are an ignoramus. Jason points, yes, but he wouldn't of said "ill meet you in the carpark". Knowing him, he probably said something like "go off the court for a cry". And second, he didn't push an airborne player...have you ever seen abasketball game? THAT is not a push of an airborne player. You've been drinking too much of Granpa's ol' cough medicine. Aucoin didn't deserve to be tossed out. Either they both get tossed out or they both stay. Simple pimple.
Ben, thanks for putting up that footage....is that some of the footage of the game to go on the qabl site?
Aucoin didn't deserve to be tossed? I believe I am reasonably fair in my judgement, and upon looking at that video I think it was warranted. In fact, I am bewildered as to why anybody is defending him in this instance!
1. Aucoin given Kruger a two-handed shove in the back on the post. Unsportsmanlike = FAIR.
2. Aucoin has an apparent brain snap a moment later and gives it to Scott Cook, who is in the air on drive. Unsportsmanlike = FAIR. Scott's lucky he ended up on his feet and not his back, that could've been real nasty.
3. Kruger and Aucoin both yap at eachother, you can only imagine what they were saying. Both get technicals = FAIR.
Aucoin gets tossed automatically as a result, as has nobody else to blame but himself. I challenge those who are defending Aucoin to present a logical argument as to why he shouldn't have received both of those unsportsmanlikes and was subsequently given his marching orders. If this happened to any other player in the league, the same result would happen. Don't go blaming the referees, that is absolutely scraping the barrel in this case.

The NBA finals are lucky they don't have the refs that did the Rocky game as there would be no players left to play. The poeple who say that jason shoved grant get your eyes checked. If grant can not handle a strong post defence without taking a dive well it is time to retire. I watched grant play gold coast and he bitched to refs all night and milked fouls all night.

1. Aucoin given Kruger a two-handed shove in the back on the post. Unsportsmanlike = FAIR.
Unsportsmanlike = BULLSHIT. Kruger took a dive which should be worth nothing but due to his stint at NIDA and home court advantage is worth a REGULAR foul.
2. Aucoin has an apparent brain snap a moment later and gives it to Scott Cook, who is in the air on drive. Unsportsmanlike = FAIR. Scott's lucky he ended up on his feet and not his back, that could've been real nasty.
.I'm presuming the game had stopped when Kruger hit the deck so there's no reason to stop Cook from scoring really other than a chance for a free bit of contact to try and piss him off. Bit of a dick move but not dangerous and not worth any type of foul either.
3. Kruger and Aucoin both yap at eachother, you can only imagine what they were saying. Both get technicals = FAIR.
This is where things would have been decided and you won't know if it was justified unless you were able to hear what was said.

Can't argue with the marching orders as it really comes down to what was said. But the actions were certainly not deserving of ejection on their own.

i was not at the rocky/mackay game, and i didnt see what happened BUT a ref IS NOT ALLOWED to call 2 unspotsman like fouls on one play. you can call 2 fouls, but NOT 2 unsportmanlike fouls. Once they've called it, thats it NO MORE, unless its a tech. the refs in this league suck a$$. they have no idea what is going on, and really need to brush up on their knowledge of the rules! so aucoin should not have been ejected on that play no matter what. maybe later in the game, but not then. crack open a rule book.

I have given tech fouls for players who throw the ball at the wall, bounce it high when disagreeing with a call and for swearing. Pushing a player in the back, then hitting a guy in mid-air (not cool) then pointing at another player and mouthing off warrants 2 techs. its basketball.
rocky and mackay play again in a few weeks in mackay, I think scott butler and some other experienced refs should take that game......
seems tough for mackay and rocky to have each other for there extra game, gladdy had bundy, towny have ipswich, northside get towoomba and cairns played gold coast. tough to play an in pool team.
Tragadh get Player of the week...... no doubts this week!!!!!
I look forward to when he plays the likes of cairns, rocky and Townsville!
In one sense it is great to see so many die hard fans supporting their side of an argument however to let what is plain to see for all get in the way of making an unbiased comment gets a bit rich to read.
IMO the officials had already lost control of the game and the incident (flop) occurs and they then have a found a reason to try and regain control. Their are plenty of people, both Mackay and Rockhampton supporters who believe they got it wrong.....and i agree with them, they got it wrong but it is done and there is nothing anybody can do about it now.
It is all relative and all a matter of opinion really - the referees made their calls and cumulatively are justified in ejecting Aucoin from the game, given that it is a matter of opinion and in the game no one else's but the referee's opinions count we can all go blue in the face saying what we think could or should have happened.
For the record i thought the incident was soft - and the referees misinterpreted that play phase. Did they change the outcome of the game...well we will never know....what i feel comfortabel in saying though is that the atmosphere in Mackay, which was fantastic, could have been a whole lot better had Acoin not got thrown.....the game would have been closer and as such the basketball fan that wants to see a good contest was robbed of that.
Mackay Basketball turned away spectators on Saturday night and if that isn't a positive negative then i don't know what is. At a time where the general public think that the sport is on its knees here is another sold out game. Mackay need to be complimented on that.
Let's think about a few more things tangibly as well whilke i am having my Aaron Nagas
- Aucoin is no thug, he plays hard and gives no quarter
- Kruger is no thug, he plays hard and gives no quarter
- Referees do influence the outcomes of games, while not meaning too they do IT IS THAT SIMPLE.
- Whatever happened on Saturday night (lets face it - it is now history) occured because the game, or the personal contest between Kruger and Aucoin was getting a little out of hand...so Jason's finger pointing, Kruger giving people the finger, Mackay manager and his alleged actions, Tweedy and his alleged actions all stem from the inability on the night of three officials to control the game the way it needed to be....it was always going to be physical and intense....everyone knew it and perhaps it required stronger or better officials.
- I will add that without referees' we dont get to see too many games but i have been less than satisfied with the overall performance of referee's this year full stop - regardless of the results.
The competition is hotting up and it is great to see - nobody can argue with that.
In rugby league a refferee will often stop the game and talk to some players to get control of the game and rule breaking, this could surely be done in basketball. Stop the game talk to players about the situation, discuss between refs the action that should be made between them.
I would rather the refs under react to what happened then over react
After reading this morning's message, it is now clear to me that it was the referees on the game who were at fault.
I would like to retract my previous statements, and offer a sincere and unreserved apology to Jason Aucoin for any hurt or distress I may have caused. I now understand that it was the referees who forced you to shove Grant Kruger forcefully with two hands, and then put Scott Cook's life in danger with what can only only be described as a brain snap. Sorry Sorry Sorry.
To Grant Kruger: toughen up. If you get shoved with two hands, you should be able to maintain your balance and remain on both feet.
To Scott Cook: wear body armour during your next game
To the game referees: shame shame shame on you for taken necessary action!!! Who cares that a serious injury could have been caused. This is basketball, not ballet. People don't want to see players be held accountable for their actions, so maybe you should swallow your whistle next time. You suck!!!

Well put Mugsy, I believe the refs should have dealt with what was going on about 3 or 4 play phases before the incident and got control of the game and perhaps settled the players down. I also wholeheartedly agree that neither player is a thug and are just hard workers with an intense desire to win and any coach would be happy to have either on their team. Great crowd at the game and I suggest that anyone attending the rematch get there early because there will be no room left. Great for Mackay basketball to have a team with the ability to compete with top teams in the league and generating such interest from the community as a whole. Borgy
wow that was a great sell by Kruger say what you want but Aucoin was done by a pro yea it was soft but you cant argue those calls it was simply the Master teaching the Apprentice a trick or two and it worked Mackay got the win and they will definitely have a sell out crowd for the rematch so basketball really is the winner here...
JAWAI playing QBL no way, train with them yea but to play in this league for Marlins should surely break some sort of Freakin rule the guy plays NBA sure he's not an All star but for petes sake they cant have any restricted spots left and did i mention that he plays in the NBA... and if he does play can he please not dunk on me this season please...

The refs were indeed at fault. Instead of multiple unsportsmanlike fouls and an ejection they should have done their duty as an australian citizen and stopped the game immediately to report the 2 attempted murders to police. Actually it was probably moreso the fault of the refs from last weeks game where I personally witnessed Aucion viciously attempting to crush the right hand of each and every opposition player after the game. He should have been reported and suspended right there and it never would have come to this.

If the refs that travel to CQ are so bad each week and can't handle these games, can someone from Mackay or Rockhampton let us know what referee's that they have that could cover the games? I mean with such strong teams and money being spent on players to make their teams so competative and strong, surely there must be money getting put into developing their own referee's. Well what about the referee educators in each centre who evaluate the games, they must have had some input, oh again there are none in the region, it's just expected that there is enough referee's to cover the short falls in these associations.
There were 6 mens games on Saturday nihgt, 18 referees for that, and 6 womans games, 12 referee's for that. I don't know if there are 30 Scott Butlers running around and I know some of the womens games with only 2 on there are tough as hell.
Just my 2 bobs worth....

it is good to see fans from both sides look after their sides, but from being in rocky a couple of years ago an seeing and hearing some of their fans calling Aaron Grabau a "black C" as well as telling him to get back into the tree's were he belonged, they have no right to complain when things go against them. Krugg's is known as a stirrer, so on game night he wins, rocky lose. Get over it, and stop trying to cry foul.

I love the way all the cheap talk is from fans and not the players.
The players are giving you the show and you are all obviously loving it.
The refs are even playing their part. They are being sucked in by two old wiley players into actually having to make calls that they shouldn't have to make. If these blokes can't stand up when they getted pushed off the block they should be playing at 6:15 and not 8 o'clock! The refs need to know that!
If someone half decent was ref, like Butler, the players would have enough respect not to even put this kind of gamesmanship on as they know he would just look at them and call play on, stop being idiots. And guess what they would just get on with it. But Kruger knew he would get a reaction and they would make calls to big note themselves as the crowd doesn't paste them for a change when they make the home calls
The refs need to know the fans aren't there to watch them. They are there to watch the game of basketball. That's kind of what they are getting at the moment but games deteriorate as players rack up fouls or get ejected and no one wins as the game can really drop off. Especially when these clubs pay money and then have professional sportman sitting on the pine. People want them to stay on and keep niggling, keep dunking, keep hitting big shot, keep making big plays. The refs needs to know, these guys are never going to throw punches as they then don't get paid if they get suspended. They do abuse the refs as they get stopped from playing ball.
As I said in a previous post, these games are now certain to sell out in the future. As administrators of the clubs we love it. Just hope some very experienced refs get the calls in the future.

Northern v Southern all-star game a la Big V charity exhibition. My teams:
North - Aaron Grabau, Dwayne Vale, Cameron Tovey, Anthony Susnjara, John Fitzgerald, Scott Cook, Todd Blanchfield, Reggie Golson, Rhys Martin, Justin Brown, Matthew Hanson, Michael Kingma.
South - Cameron Tragardh, Adam Gibson, Shane Davis, Steven Broom, David Gurney, Scott McGregor, Jason Cameron, Tommy Ammar, Ben Castle, Zane Meehl, Dante Sykes.
In my humble opinion the Northern team wins by alot. This is something the QBl could look into I reckon, gain some interest in the league and add some flavour.
The absence of Marcus Chn'ng this year really just hurts the south, making the north all stars superior. Only Marcus could lock down Cook and Martin.

I always find myself looking at things that dont make sense and one i just recognized was that the mens team Bundaberg Bulls actually have a higher % than teams such as caboolture(5-3) gold coast, gladstone and marrochydore. i know they play mackay and rocky away this weekend. which will inevitably bring that down. but thought id give a shout out to them as its unusual for a team to have their % at 99% and be 2-6.. hope they can win a couple of those close games they playing..
i know irrelevant but thought that was interesting.

I agree the play was soft however the players must know from what happened in the last play phases before the incident that the refs would be watching them closely and need to be smart enough not to give them the opportunity to make the calls. Once again though I do agree it was soft, and both players have done very little to warrant the backlash from people saying they are thugs.

Stu I absolutely disagree with you, but I'll digress from that point. What you or anybody else have failed to discuss is what action you believe should have instead been taken.
Yes Kruger acted well, but it can't be disputed that Aucoin gave him a nice shove. Aucoin then has a chop at Cook who is in the air. Put the shoe on the other foot and think about all the bleating if the game was being played at Rocky and Kruger gave Aucoin a push, then had a go at a driving Rhys Martin. The Rocky crowd would no doubt be forming a lynch mob for Kruger after the game.
The referees do a thankless job and waste many a weekend to put up with such rubbish. Perhaps Rocky can develop some decent refs that would add to the talent pool.

Whilst I can appreciate your position as a Rocky supporter, I'm sure the Evaluator & Standards Committee are the ones better qualified to make a call if the Officials on the game made any grievous errors or not.
Maybe it's time to just let this one go and start looking forward to Week 9 & beyond?

Well said I come on here for a look at updates, who is playing well, who isn't etc. Most of the jibes on here are really nasty, and rather personal... People know when they bad but don't get personal. As far as this Rocky v Mackay game goes, and push n shove etc. WHO CARES - game is over!! Mackay won! The refs may have got it wrong, they may have got it right - but endlessly talking about it on here anonymously (rocky and mackay supporters) ain't going to fix it. To all the Rocky supporters, you do have to lose games, I realise you guys have become pretty accustomed to winning but other teams will beat you from time to time, deal with it... And Mackay fans - Kruger is a thug, always has been, no defending that - but in saying that he has made a good career out of basketball so he must be doing something right.
This is my two cents -

Once again an ill informed response from someone that obviously has zero idea of what has previously been stated by myself and actually a couple of others that are respected around the place....Stu & Borgy to name a couple.
Don't bother asking people what action they would have taken, the referees never performed an action - they performed a reaction and in most people's mind an over reaction. As i have stated previously the officials on the night obviously are justified for the actions in ejecting Aucoin due to the accumulation of calls they made, the strong consensus is that the calls that were made were inaccurate - it is criticism, negative, positive, constructive or otherwise...build a bridge and get over it. I take it you are from the referees fraternity.
On referees wasting countless weekends officiating at games - are you fair dinkum for real - they are the only people guarenteed at the start of each season in picking up a pay cheque for their services. They get flown around to the venue at the expense of the organisation/s that they visit - they get accomodated and reasonably well looked after. So don't give any of us on here the "they give up their weekends" - THEY GET PAID which is more than i suspect 90% of the people involved in QBL from the coaching staff, players through to court wipser and score bench officials.
Well we can always lay claim to Scott Butler i guess but if the truth be known he probably got where he is now by alot of his own work and learning how to understand and manage people. A good chunk of money gets spent in Rockhampton now on referee devleopment and education - in addition to the fact that referees gets paid for every game that is played - so pull your head as you have no idea on what you are talking about in regards to Development of referees in this region.
Just remember that the tyranny of distance that we are constantly challenged with means all the development in terms of bringing people in to assist costs a fortune.....
BJ it was a factless response from you on this topic and the issue is never the outcome it is always what is the root of the problem....with the Aucoin & Kruger most believe that it could have got handled better before the flop etc....

If you look closely Jase actucally reacts to Krugers pass and drops to help on Cook. He commits and once you commit in basketball it is almost physically impossible to pull out. He did not deliberately go to hurt Cook like some people think. I'm not saying you think this but the refs do need to take some responsibility for this whole incident.

We still claim Scott Butler but he wont ref any of our games. Put Adam O'Sing on the crew. He is up to it if the others are up to it.
Mate I could step out of the crowd and stand at halfway and call the game better than these games. But they would want me to go to some training camp so they could mould me into some machine to make calls that shouldn't be calls. I would even say to these two as a ref, stop it or I'll knock you both out!
In the lead up to that incident the other night in Mackay there was a flop by Cook called on Martin and then an attempted flop by Martin on Cook that was called a block. There was a drive from Kruger leading with the elbow with no intention of trying to score (trust me that move was my favourite) right in front of a ref and then a mexian stand off in the key way with no call and the refs pushing them down the court. Followed by the arm tangling by Kruger on two occassions trying to milk calls which he didn't get. The dropping of the elbow in the guts of Martin on a scoring drive by Kruger with a no call. All of this in 2 minutes followed by the incident and then 5 more calls in 2 minutes that were pussy in comparison to the previous two minutes.
