Yep I agree and he's better than Cadee Thank God the season is nearly over can not stand to watch another game where guys are paid good money to stand around and not play defence then think they are stars cause they score a few points Cadee & Goulding and a couple of others spring to mind. Not sure what Joey is thinking but its a worry we don't need guys that score 10 plus a game and then let in 15 WAKE UP Blaze.

Spartans and Gold Coast Blaze join forces to foster young talent
The Gold Coast Blaze and the Southern Districts Basketball Association which competes as the Brisbane Spartans, have joined forces to create a greater development pathway for young basketball players in South East Queensland (SEQ).
Competing in the South East Australian Basketball League (SEABL), Southern Districts Basketball Association has long provided a stepping stone into the National Basketball League, namely helping to kick-start the career of Blaze favourite Chris Goulding. Other current NBL players Rhys Martin (Woollongong and Boomers squad), Cameron Tragardh (Melbourne Tigers) and Tim Coenraad (Woollongong) also came through the Spartans junior ranks.
The partnership, set out for five years, will seek to officially formalise this role for the Spartans, who will act as a feeder-club for the Gold Coast Blaze, currently the only NBL team in South East Queensland.
Successful, in both the NRL and AFL, the feeder-club system will work to not only put a spotlight on young talent, but also to encourage juniors to see the transition through the Spartans and SEABL into the NBL as a realistic and achievable goal in the SEQ region.
Juniors will additionally be exposed to NBL standards of play, with the partnership also detailing that at least three Blaze players are to suit up for the Spartans in the SEABL during the NBL off-season.
Blaze CEO Paul Pamenter and Spartans’ General Manager, Allan Ladewig were both excited about the partnership and the unveiling of local talent.
“This is a unique partnership that opens up a seamless opportunity for young talent to reach the top tier of basketball in this country, whilst at the same time, positioning us to hopefully add silverware to both the Blaze and Spartans’ trophy cabinets,” Pamenter said.
Whilst Ladewig added, “For so long we have been committed to becoming part of the true pathway for basketball. The partnership with the Blaze gives young players and the Spartans senior program that extra level to aspire towards. The Gold Coast Blaze are a quality organisation and we look forward to working with them for many years".

What are the Rollers then? What a joke! GC basketball - I would be cracking skulls.

Why would you be cracking heads? BA was always wanting a true second tier and now we have 2 very different basketball groups working together for a pathway that will lead to success I am sure. The deal makes sense and the sooner we get another Cross in south east the sooner the pathway will be complete.
No-brainer. From junior into seniors at own Association, progressing through "BA Second tier competition' Brisbane Spartans to NBL Blaze.

That isn't the point. With Rollers being funded and adminsistered by the Blaze, wouldn't it make sence to send your contracted guys there in the off-season? This creates exclusivity around where to see your Blaze guys in the off-season, creates a genuine revenue stream which can intern, roll over to move to SEABL. On top of that, it has the 'Gold Coast' and 'Rollers' name which is more streamlined then any blaze banner at Carina will do.The Blaze will have more control over the Rollers franchise, using it as a tool to develop local talent ie. Mick Conlon. With this link, you've crushed a major relationship that the Blaze front office, except for the CEO have been buillding now for 5 years.
It's a short term option for a very small return. The CEO with no basketball background, has only been making moves like these since he's been in the seat. He's good at spending money and talking like he knows ball. Mr Pamenter - where is the naming rights? Is the board happy the Blaze are sinking into more of a financhal hole?

That is eaxactly why they would be doing it. making sure players are playing and developing at a standrad in the off season. Pretty sure the Brisbane BA second team tier team will have coach heavily involved in NBL program to ensure the pathway is working in same direction.

What has a name got to do with development. Blaze want to be inclusive not like other failed programs around Australia. They are casting the net to the southern suburbs of Brisbane and down into NSW. The management needs to be applauded for forward thinking.
It's a short term option for a very small return.
Why is it a short term option. Once in place I think will be here for a long time. Blaze will gain financially through an inreased supporter base and local players of standard. And forward planning such as this will stop the bleeding and make it easier for south Queensland based players to get to the top. Well done Blaze.
We now have a patheway that will enable all basketballers to remain at local club and once into seniors start to make the the big steps without moving away from family and friends.
Got to be great for the sport.

yeah, easy to think that however, limited resources.
Why not involve ALL your resources to correctly activate the closest (and one of the biggest in QLD) association rather then giving 25% here, 25% there.. Gold Coast base is huge and the Blaze haven't correctly activated them.
You can't tell me that with all the staff-turnover, that this job has been done correctly. You need to work on your immediate area untill that is working correctly, then move to spartans/northern nsw..
And yes, it is a name thing. You're in the local basketball circle, so you think like this. Now if you've got a parent who's looking at a kids future who is playing u12s for Carrara Celtics, see's the Blaze guys in GOLD COAST uniforms year round, they're going to see a link. The league, the club and the sport all have massive marketing and brand exposure issue.
Again, correctly activate your brand within the Gold Coast before moving out and looking to expand..

Wow, this is a big mistake by the Gold Coast Blaze
dont feeder clubs have smaller clubs that channel talent into them? titans feeder is ipswich, who woudl have junior clubs that feed talent into them also
do the blaze want logan south west and brisbane to feed their players with nbl talent into the spartans junior system
does this mean that if you want any chance as a junior to make it to the Blaze you must play with southern districts? how it sounds. so any future brendan teys, brad williamson sort of guys won't get a look in unless they make the move to carina.
surely the blaze wouldn't be crazy enough to overlook a future Goulding or Cam T if they came from another club and didn't make the move
if your the blaze way to try and lose support from any other grassroots association that is not southern districts by suggesting their members need to get on board at sd to make their roster. gc, runaway bay logan south west brissy ippy wizards and maroochydore must be thrilled

I don't see gc, runaway bay logan south west brissy ippy wizards or maroochydore doing the hard yards and spending the money to gain entry into the BA second teir. Spartans have done that and the arrangement makes sense to me, why not have your players playing in the best competiton available? Let's not forget that there are only 10 roster spots at Spartans, there will be plenty of quality players still plying their trade at the other associations.
I think it is a strom in a teacup really.

Just wondering what this agreement actually does ?
Does this mean that Bubbles and Shaun will now be forced to play for the Spartans instead of in the QBL ? Will Spartans pay them the $$$ they are getting now to play QBL ? What about Garlepp ? I think THEIR reality is a little different to yours.
What about Big Joe and Mick ? Will the Blaze now ask Mick to coach the Spartans and Joe to run the program ?
Let's face it, the SEABL (and SEABL-2) isn't any better pathway than the QBL. The stats speak for themselves. And it seems it isn't any better at drawing the best players than what the QBL does.
I seem to recall Rocky doing something similar a few years back with the Bullets. That worked really well :).
Do you expect the Spartans kids to travel to the coast every week to watch the Blaze ? Wouldn't it be better to attract the LOCAL kids ?

Kids from the Gold Coast associations catchment areas, Tweed through to Coomera, out to Nerang.
Small thinkers

Kids from the Gold Coast associations catchment areas, Tweed through to Coomera, out to Nerang.
Exactly the small minded logic that keeps our sport so far behind the likes of league and rules. Even netball is bigger now. Soccer learnt the lesson about bigger picture and look where it is now.
Guys as someone said before Spartans can only place 10 players into the team. I am thinking that they will also want to make sure own juniors are catered for so at most 3 players will be playing for them from Blaze.
This situation allows our Blaze players to play at highest level in off season while not costing Blaze valuable resources and money to run a team.
They will still support Gold Coast. Now they just have a bigger service area.

I'm not saying they won't support the Gold Coast or it's not a good big-picture plan to expand the catchment/service area. What I'm saying is, the Blaze and the league need to get the building blocks right. They're not doing a good enough job locally to expand. That's not an insult, it's building but not there yet. This partnership would be a good move in 2-3 years when Rollers program is peaking, Blaze/local basketball relationship is humming and the club is comfitable to expand. Right now, they've just pissed on a building relationship. Get the small things right to ensure stability!
Why don't the Blaze look into getting behind local basketball excellence program? That young fella running their community stuff has mentioned he's looking at getting behind Ian Moose backed GC academy of sport and keeping a keen eye on local school programs for a window to help out but seems to get no support from the ownership group?

So you expect the Blaze who play in a NATIONAL competiton to ignore a city of 1.5 millon people just an hours drive away who do not have an NBL team? That makes a lot of sense, maybe you should get a group together and buy the team off Owen and co and put your plan in place. I am sure the investors from your LOCAL boom towns of Coomera, Nerang and the like will all be falling over themselves to get in on the action..
No wonder Basketball is in the state it is.

So what happens in 3-4 years when Bullets are back and pretty much take all that work done through Brisbane by the Blaze? Meanwhile, the Gold Coast still hasn't had the attention it needs to get working and we're back to square one.
Bullets are/will be the major competition for the Blaze. Why do the ground work for them?
If you're thinking potential members, location matters. If you had 100points of effort to put into membership drives/support. Do you think putting 25% GC 75% Bris will sell memberships/get bums or seats or 75% GC, 25% Brisbane?
If you have 100points of effort/support to offer basketball clubs. You offer 75% to GC, 25% Brisbane/Northern NSW.
WE'RE NOT THERE YET! WE WILL, BUT NOT YET!
I think the Gold Coast City basketball need to worry about a lot more things before they start to want want want from the Blaze. They ceased to be Gold Caost a long time ago.
Build stadium that is basketball specific first and then try paying basketball Queensland back the $200,000 debt you guys walked away from last time there was an NBL team in town.
As far as Bullets back I think the same pathetic "all about me' attitude will ensure that the Bullets do not happen with BBI I am hearing trying to do it on own and exclude other clubs in Brisbane.
Gold Coast City do your own development. Yes Blaze will support you the same as they are now going to support Spartans. Employ your own development officers the same as other clubs do. Get your OWN QBL team. The one you have belongs to Dave. Get everyone registered with BQ. The tribes that control the Gold Coast are exactly why other sports are moving ahead while of them.
Get off your arses and help yourselves is what I really trying to say. Stop whinging about what others who have are doing.

From Blaze website:
Owner of the Gold Coast basketball franchise, Gold Coast Blaze Pty Ltd, appointed W. Roland Robson of Aggs Robson Chartered Accountants as Voluntary Administrator yesterday to control the affairs of the Club. This appointment will allow the current owners the opportunity to finalise negotiations with a new equity partner and to engage in a process of promoting its restructuring plans.
The Company has achieved an impressive commercial turnaround over the past two years, and has received great accolades for its on court performances this year from the basketball community throughout Australia. The Tomlinson family have supported the business since its inception, but recognised the need for additional investors in order to make the Club sustainable in the long term. Mr Owen Tomlinson said “We are in discussions with an investor who wants to proceed however our former coach, who has obtained a Supreme Court Judgment against the Company, had refused to delay enforcement proceedings before the required deadline, to enable us to finalise negotiations with this investor and so we have appointed a Voluntary Administrator to control the affairs of the Club pending the completion of these negotiations and thereby secure the long term future of the Club”.
Negotiations with a new equity partner are well-advanced, and Mr Tomlinson is confident that this appointment will not only see the company through this process, but actually allow the club to successfully transition into a new long-term ownership structure.
Basketball Australia has been made aware of the situation, and have been updated throughout.

I reckon it is all about not paying the ex coach the money he was awarded for false dismissal. But hey I could be wrong. Think you will find there will be a Blaze team on the court next year with some new investors coming on board.
