I've been reading as a neutral observer and don't believe they are saying Waz or his teams throw games. It sounds like they have a game plan for that particular game, and if it wins that game, great, if not, thry're not worried because they intend to be different by the end of the season. From my experience Warwick is a very detailed coach and gets the basics right before building on them. So instead of running a lot of thinks at a mediocre level early in the season, his teams run only a few basic things (offensively and defensively) early on and when they are great at those things they build more on top of that foundation. So what you see in the first half of the season is different to the second half and different again by Classics. All teams build in different ways and this Maroochydore team have historically got it right when it counts.
I'd bet that Maroochydore want to win every game they play but are not worried if they don't win early as long as they win late.

All right Waz Time to come clean these guys are saying that you throw games is it true or not
Cant see anywhere where any body said Maroochydore "throw" games mate.
I was only talking of my experiences anyway not Waz's.
(Though it was topical in 2006 when 4th M'Dore knocked out 1st BBI in the 1 v 4 semi final then went on and won Classics. Also topical in 2007 when BBI won PL but got cleaned by SWM at Classics) Some coaches just aim their preparation to peak at the money time and dont worry about week to week bragging rights.
Depends what floats your boat I guess.

Can someone please tell me, what is this Dandenong Victoria Tournament for the Under 18s? I heard that the team goes away in late January 2010. Have they selected the team yet? Is it open to everyone? If the teams picked whose going?

SD and BBI are sending a composite team. It will be played on the Aust day long weekend. I think there's about 4 SD guys and 6 BBi guys.
[quote=Coach B;22250]Can anyone tell me when the big game will be on? (BBI V Maroochi) Cause with all the talk on here it might just be the game of the century and I'd like to book tickets to come watch, you are going to sell tickets aren't you?
At last. It has been revealed. 11.30am Sunday 22nd, at Maroochydore. (That's a 15 point head start to Maroochydore already!). Scalpers ready with those tickets!

Is that because of those awesome Brisbane refs they send up there or is it the $2 rings and backboards?

In my opinion, I dont know of one coach who will throw a game even if it benifited a first team of an assoc to get into finals. Do you seriously think there is match fixing in BQJBC? I and prob many others would be able to tell if it happened (if watching the game) and there would be a massive uproar, I just don't understand why you wouldn't want to finish 1st in your division at the end of the rounds, you then get to play 4th spot, damn site easier than playing 3rd.
But I am new to U18s so I guess if it goes on then I am sadly disalusioned about the BQJBC competition.
"Match Fixing"??? Where you been coaching man?! You mean you never heard of "make the first four and win the last two"?? Sure as hell Dale and Warwick both have!

Just for your info mate, My team has made first four and even first 2. We didnt win the GF but what can I say, "I wasn't good enough"? It may have been SC but my team was all bottom age and lost 3 games all season. Good result in my eyes and we not once did we settled for anything less than a win.
FYI, I was only commenting on someone elses post. I cant see match fixing happening myself.

Yeh mate I've become well aware of your extensive coaching experience and expertise over the last 2 years but you also expressed disillusionment with the BQJBC U/18 mens comp and some pretty high handed opinions/questioning on how coaches in the division might run their preparation strategy. My point being if you had been around the top level for as long as these two blokes have you might prefer to step back watch and learn rather than voicing those comparatively inexperienced views and mockingly talk about rushing off to "buy tickets" for what will merely be the opening gambit of a 6 month chess game.
If I heard right and Dale Ryan has the BBI 18's then they will be very likely to repeat last years dual title result. Probably need to be aware but that it wouldnt be a first if Maroochydore come out of the blue with a blinder in a crucial game to upset the juggernauting apple cart.
For the record I'm predicting Redlands to take a state title within the next 4 years. With a bloke with as much stoke for the game as you at the helm its a pretty good bet.

Wow some really good debate on some interesting issues and quite relevant
Dale is coaching the u 18 state team so he will be interested in how this rivalry progresses but more so for the individual performances of the players who can show the standards required to excel (hopefully) at the national champs
Keiran is the bris coach though he has quality backup with Dale and scheibs and so far they have hit the nail on the head with their preparation style and game plans which has raised the bar from 2 yrs ago Can others raise their games to the same level. That is what I am enjoying about this season not who wins but who performs or improves over the course of the season including players teams and coaches

Yes you've hit it on the head there. Say what you like (or dont like) about BBI but they keep raising the bar...(even if they sometimes get a bit shirty when someone else jumps over it).
Keiran is a newby coach but now has Nationals experience. His season assisting Palmer is like a 5 year intensive training course from my experience so with Dale Ryan to bounce stuff off they are well placed to deliver the goods in whats becoming a traditional rivalry.
Warrick on the other hand has...well, Experience!...with a capital E.
Great for basketball I reckon, David (400 member 'beach' based association) and Goliath (4,000 member metropolitan major player) deftly moving the pieces in a 6 month poker game with the flop in December the river end of January and the draw at Classics next year.
Could be another player or two sitting on a pair of pocket aces out there biding their time till the final bets also!!

Just a reminder that GC came within a whisker of upseting BBI in the classics final in July. No1 expected GC to do quite so well considering they were beaten by BBI, SD and Logan all year, however they only lost 1 game at classics and only just. So yeah sometimes teams can suprise everyone.

Tickets for the game was a light hearted joke, mate. And I only hope I am around as long as the BBI and Maroochi coach, and gain as much experience and knowlege about the game as they have. My views maybe inexperienced but I do love this game and do my best to research and learn just like the kids we coach, and yes that comes with time and exposure. I am getting that and will gladly stand here and say that I am not the best coach in the world but I am giving it a crack and I hope the kids and parents I am involved with can appreciate it as much as I appreciate their devotion to their game.
As far as Redlands taking out a state tittle, well, I have gone back to grass roots and am involved in coaching and reffing our Biddyball ATM so I will do my best to arm our future kids with the skills and knowledge that will see them up there playing in state and national finals. All will take time and a lot of commitment. But it will happen as you say.

Ipsw V Maroochy- Training run for Maroochy
SD V Gold Coast- GC to be too strong for 4 quarters. (GC coach should have fun with the Carina refs. if he gets a few bad calls)

Hey Waz are you planning to throw this one or not or is that just the excuse you use when you lose Ha Ha Ha
Looking at weekly results bris have been slightly more impressive than mdore so far
Goldy logan should also be a ripper
I would have given rbay a shot at home v mdore until last weeks effort should still be a good game though

Interesting team split:
Bne 9, Doore 5, GC 4, Logan 3, RBay 1, Nthside 1, Ipsw 1, SD nil.
Probably close to the order of final placings at end of PL.
Ippy V Bne- warm up for Bne before the clash of the titans on Sunday
Hawks V Maroochy- expect Hawks to push Maroochy but in the end Maroochy's firpower will bring them home
GC V Logan- match of the round (excluding the Sunday Game which is the match of the century :D)- GC by a whisker
Northside V SD- Northside over a struggling SD in another close one.
Maroochy V Bne
Probably the most hyped up game talked about on this forum for ages.
With around 50% of the current state squad members involved it is bound to attract attention. It will be standing room only. Both have fast skilful teams with Bne having a great attack and Maroochydore a mean defence. At the end of the day, Maroochydore at home has been a challenge for many a visitor. Bne to lose by 6 points in what should be a ripper of a game.

Must admit I shared the same cynicism of this parctice until recently when at the State program I'm involved in a player and his parent approached us after and thanked the coaching staff for the individuals tuition, insights and opportunity to work with experienced coaches and with and against the very best players of his age/gender group. The player and parent both realised before they had very little chance of progressing however both looked at it from the viewpoint of an investment in the players skills development and future and an understanding of the requirements to play at National level. Given there are too few opportunities for players to access coaches of the calibre of our head coach in an intensive camp such as this, it's changed my thinking completely on the concept.

Rohan never even trialed for the state team, so to answer your question, no he didn't get cut.

So who is in charge of registrations at Runaway Bay???? Maybe the finger should be pointed at whoever did not ensure that the player had a clearance? Looks like an internal mistake at the Bay. Of course it is easier to blame someone else!
I am not questioning their right to object I just question their timing.
Why did they not object way back at grading?
Unregistered
22-11-09, 12:33
The timing has to be the question! If it's good enough now to take 2 wins off the Bay, shouldn't they also lose every grading match and therefore be in Div 2? But you must question the late complaint when the reason the clearance was withheld, had actually been resolved before the season began!

Would have to of been the worst game of basketball I've seen. It was 21 - 21 at the 1st quarter break. Brisbane only scored 1 point in the second and it was downhill from there for Brisbane, they couldn't sink a shot. Maroochy played hard and deserved the win. Brisbane hanging there heads after every missed shot. Maroochy win by 20 ish.

i wouldn't go that far. they were beaten oncee so what? doesn't mean their no good. i'd bet that in the second round/the final that they'll give em a run. those will be the best games. besides, they couldn't sink a shot in the second quarter or afterwards - just wait til they have a GOOD day.
No wonder Ipswich were still in the game, the reffing was a joke the girl ref needs a new whistle as the one she used tonight didn't have a pea in it.
Foul count for the 3rd quarter was 10-0. Brisbane didn't seem to play there usual game tonight, maybe saving themselves for the trip up the coast in the morning.
Goodluck to both teams, lets hope the reffing is better tomorrow.
None of the whistles have pea's in them. They are pealess whistles.

Did Declan Starasts trial for state?

and the BBI u18 undeafeted legacy comes to an end...
The legacy was only started and fueled by people on this board, neither team really gets caught up in that rubbish. Now we might be able to move on and let the players play.
The game was ugly by both sides, but MDores' zone defence proved the difference. Just like the night before against Ippy, Brisbane were out played and every loose ball went to the boys from the coast. No Sam Cabrea either, so watch out when he rejoins the team. No one really stood out from either team. For Maroochy Seth was Seth, and Jones cut at the right time and got some nice drives and layups. Corey and Cam T were tuff, but no one shot or played particularly well, they just outplayed and out smarted the visitors.
Brisbane were woeful and have a long way to go before they are even considered to be an elite side. They have no cohesion, team D is terrible and they only win cause of their individual abilities. If they ever come together as a true team, they might have a chance to be good, but at present they are very ordinary. They have not played a decent game of TEAM basketball to date.
So all up the hyped up game did not live up to any lofty heights, it only proved that if you want to win PL, you will need to beat MDore to do it.

Guess we can also stop comparing them to last years Brisbane team too. Different teams, different coaches, different competition.
However even i have to admit the legacy could have been scary. imagine one association going undefeated in the same age group two years in a row. I cant remember one team doing it before last years, let alone 2 in a row...legacies have to start somewhere. No one applied in the above that the team(s) cared. But thats how stats are made, records are broken and history is formed.

hahahahaha!!! But hasnt some of the experienced people been saying the early rounds dont matter all along?? And havent the Brissos been saying "its just their excuse for losing"??? ('cept they didnt!!) Man this sounds like some Monty Pythons sketch its so absurdly funny.
Something like the one where one knight gets both his arms and legs cut off and lies there bleeding saying "Come back and fight it's only a flesh wound" while the other rides away shaking his head??
Seriously though it was more like a game of chess that nobody cared about too much and both played accordingly. Coach Byrne was nusrsing his baby and changed very little at all through the game whilst looking very "studious" as though he was "assessing" matters for next time. Waz looked pissed off that BBI wouldnt do something to step up and take the many opportunities he was giving them to win the game and claim the dreaded "November Premiers" poison chalice.
Have to agree nobody saw the best of either team and wont until theres a title on the line but gees its funny to see the shift in the attitudes of the BBBrigade when their outlandish pre game crowing turns to bleating excuse making and promises that they will be correct next time...and if not then the time after...and if not then...

The selections were made by the 6 guys (3 Coaches, Team Manager and Two Other Selectors) who were at the trials on the day. No one else. They all met after the first and second session of the day to put together the list of Players to advance. NITP program athletes were not given any special consideration. The fact they have made that program shows they are some of the better players in the state so you'd hope they play well enough to be considered, but I'm sure not all will make the final team, or even the top 15 as there are too many good players not in that group who deserve consideration.
So stop talking out of your backside as you have no fact to back up you comments

Apparently Sam C was in the ITC program last year and declined the offer this year. Seth Turner should be there, you will have to ask Murry or Seth why he is not. I think Max Tauvo should have been in the ITC for the last 2 years, but again you will have to ask Murry why he is or never has been included. A case could be made for Cam J too.
You make a valid point. However there have been lots of great players that have went on to bigger and better things without being in the ITC. The most obvious recent examples are Chris Goulding and Cameron Bairstow, there are more as well. so the message is to those that do not make it, keep workiing hard and if you are good enough you will make it.

Max is probably the most athletic of all the bigs in that age group (Sam, Jeremy, Luke being the other 5's on state squad list) and you can't teach the others athleticism. Giving Max some Intensive Training to harness that athleticism into a skilful useable force over the last 2 years would have been really helpful for him.
Any athletic player 6'6 + given the right training has a bigger potential upside than a 6'0 guard too, so considering NITC is about identifying potential talent at the elite level, i'd say he was worth consideration.
I am NOT saying he is better than the other bigs mentioned or the players in NITC, just that I can see how he would have been a good candidate for the program and had he had two years of skills/strength training from it under his belt, he'd possibly be a very lethal addition to this years state team. Who knows, he still may make it anyway.

Standouts for Logan would definately be anthony and his twin brother (sorry dont know his name) on offence, and donovan ritson on defence. Ian also had a pretty good game! Argon played ok, but he is a bit of a hog, never looks for the pass, and plays no defence! Grant didnt get much court time so i cant comment on him too much but when he was on he played ok

Did anyone stop to consider if Max actually wanted to do NIPT? Was he agreeable to comit the time to the program, the athlete education classes, keeping a diary and abiding by all the rules? Were his folks willing to make the time and financial commitment that also comes with signing a scholarship agreement? And lastly does Max or the NIPT people see Max as having the potential to play at the international level? Not saying he doesnt have all the above but probly need to ask if he does because there's more to having the government invest money in you than being a good PL player.

Another good point you raise. Who are these talented players that you reckon should be included, can you name names please. Always interested in others views on talented young players.
To the guy asking if Max would have even wanted to do ITC, we will never know because he was never asked. I tend to agree a kid with Max's natural athletic abilities of speed, quickness, size and lenght should be considered. Totally agree that if he had 2 years of ITC under his belt he maybe knocking on the door of Aussie selection right now. Sadly we will never know the answers to any of these questions.
As far as having the ability to play at the International level, that is highly objective. There are some kids on that list that you can probably say no way. There are others not on the list that have a bigger upside than some that are included. Never going to have 100% agreement on that one.

Its my understanding as a network coach that athletes were considered on a number of criteria including a lot of off court factors. One of those factors as I remember was the potential of the athlete to progress above state elite to international standard. Sure there are a lot of kids the layman would say "no way" (and be right in a number of cases) but thats why those determinations are performed by paid professionals with input from National Coaches and All Australian Camp coaches and others at that level. Its not an exact science and has been known to be politicised in some instances in the past but by and large they do the best they can in the limited spots available under the limited funding they receive.
Only seen Max play twice and although effective in spurts at local level he's not in the top range of athletes in Australia at National Championships. Just an opinion. But not getting an NIPT scholarship doesnt mean you cant play or will never make the big time, just means your not what the program is looking for right now.

To the guy asking if Max would have even wanted to do ITC, we will never know because he was never asked. I tend to agree a kid with Max's natural athletic abilities of speed, quickness, size and lenght should be considered. Totally agree that if he had 2 years of ITC under his belt he maybe knocking on the door of Aussie selection right now. .
Hahahaha rolling on the floor laughing my ass off, you are joking right ??? You'd have to be joking athletic ability Max, please besides height he has nothing, yes he can dunk a ball, so he should he is 6'7". He lacks co-ordination and is a lazy rebounder. I feel 5 years in the NITP would not improve Max's ability as a player, so the 2 years of Government funded scholarship you talk of would be an absolute waste.
I better get off here now as my belly is hurting from laughing so much !!!!!!!

Am tired of anonymous judgements on the apparent lack of ability of others. We were all useless against Rbay Mainly because they outplayed us and Frank Goldfinch outcoached me
I guess you werent there the next day when Max and others played their roles to perfection
I know there are Prep schools in the US who want him now.
They also judge players on character, personality and the ability to learn and play a role in a team structure - how many schools are recruiting you ?
We only train once a week but I am happy with progress at this stage. Some of us judge on 1 game I prefer to look at a point in the future and ask what is possible
One thing for sure you wont find him on here publicly bad mouthing others abilities he is too nice a guy and has too much character for that unlike some posters who lack both character and I bet ability

wmYou are a breath of fresh air Warwick - you seem to be the only one who posts positive comments on here about the players and their future capabilities. For the people who constantly post picky back stabbing crap on this site - take a leaf from Warwicks' book, too many parents wanting their little Johnnies to be at the top and jealous of anyone who actually gets there ahead of their boys!!
The boys who have Warwick as a coach are the winners - extremely lucky to have him.

Granted that most of it is trash talk bullshit but in if somebody presents an obviously biased and false commendation then posters have a right to speak their minds. I'm against waz on this one. Schools in the US would not take him. He has poor co-ordination! Thats imperative in basketball or any sport. At his age and size (6'6" definitely not taller) and especially how he is skill set wise, he would not get a look in against the likes of Cabrera, Seth and many more across the league. I don't need to go into details but in an unbiased sense it is fine to say that as he is now he isn't quite the big proverbial fish everybody is making him out to be. He steps on the court and its looking wildly in all directions as if lost and unsure of what to do.
All that said the kid is still a kid! I'm not saying there is no potential or Max is a lost case. He is in good hands with waz and has the physique of a basketball player. In years to come he might develop and silence the "doubters" but until then if criticism remains constructive then there should not be a problem with it.

Not much chatter this week huh. Amazing what a couple of losses can do to some peoples confidence (I refer to parents/hangers on here, as I don't believe it's the Players talking it up on here). Not much saying how great BBI or Maroochydore are. Makes for some dull reading but great to see teams able to let their games do the talking.
I still predict Maroochydore to finish on top after Classics, but this weekend showed how anything can happen. Still along way to go, good luck all.

Surprising that there's no chatter as in this week's round you could throw a blanket over the lot of them. Four potentially close games:
Northside V BBI- Can BBI regroup and put Northside away. Expect them to come back strong and take this one out.
Ipswich and Districts- SD improved last week but will need to maintain their intensity to knock off a confident Ipswich who gave the "top end of town" a run for their money last week. Predict Districts to limp home in a close one.
Maroochy V Logan- Anything can happen if Logan manage to get on top however expect the Doore to dominate in the end.
Gold Coast V Seahawks- battle of the Coast. Seahawks have managed the unthinkable last week beating the invincible Doore. Gold Coast smarting from a narow two point loss. Give it to GC by a few points.

Though the game might be a bit shaky at the top its a good sign for the future to see experienced ex-ABA/NBL coaches and players putting back into junior basketball. Warwick at Maroochydore Frank Goldfinch at Seahawks Shane Heal at Seahawks etc. I even saw Kirsty Dallas and Steve Weiland both coaching Div 3 girls last Saturday. Imagine how good a grounding those kids are getting in their formative years to have ex players teaching them the game. For Frank or Warwick or anyone who cops a bit of flak from administrators or disgruntled parents or players occasionally remember just do it for the kids (its not their fault) and the future of basketball.

Technicially the first round does not finish for all age groups in PL till the 6th of Feb. during the first game of the Carnival round. Gold Coast play MDore, that will determine who finishes first in PL after the first round. ATM both Bne and MDore have one loss and Logan and GC have 2 each, close comp for sure.

With Sam questionable due to the Injury, if you cut Max at the next cut who are you keeping at the 5. Jeremy missed most of last trials with injury also. So you have the 6'10 kid from Brisbane (who is quite raw and not playing PL or SC) or who at the 5 spot???
That's why IMO they'll keep Sam, Max, Jeremy and the Brissy kid around, because it's too hard to call who'll be able to fill the role come April.

One strange situation where a bloke (Frank Goldfinch) is written up and honoured as a "hero of Gold Coast Basketball" and from one of the foundation families/ex Cougars/etc last month and a few weeks later the mother of one of the boys from an opposing team (whose been in GC ball for 5 minutes by comparison) has the power to turn 2 of his wins to forfeits then use some self possessed "power" to evict him from a stadium when hes going to coach against her sons team??? Do teams need a team solicitor on the end of the bench when they play at Gold Coast now? Does member protection and harrassment/victimisation free sport apply when playing at Gold Coast?

It is always the problem with state trials; there are those that "trial" well and those that "play well ". When will the state coaches get out there and get to the games to really watch these boys play and really give all boys who trial a fair chance??

You people amaze me, you want state coaches to get around the SE and watch all the games that possible state players are playing in. These people are VOLUNTEERS, they give of their own time to coach most weekends for FREE! They get no support financially or other wise from BQ, and then they have to cop this garbage.
As a matter of fact current U 18 state coach Dale Ryan was at the entire grading tournament watching as many kids as he could. I am sure he could have been doing lots of other things with his precious free time.
All and all the teams usually are selected pretty well and FAIRLY too. It is really only the 9/10 spots are truely controversial.
You want full time coaches to run our state programs, start digging deep in your own pockets!

Aaron is a 3-4 for Maroochy would be a 2/3 at National Level. Guys at the 2/3 still around are Garret, BC, Seth, Cam, Jake, Agon, Doug, Jamaal..maybe a few others. Some of these will be cut before final squad too. So where does Aaron or any of the other 2/3's cut fit in. The first 5 in that list plus maybe one more can make the team.
And considering Trials are a series of games be it 1 on 1, 2 on 2 up to 5 on 5, plus shooting work, if you can't perform under the "pressure" of trials, why should anyone expect you can handle the pressure of Nationals. And as stated above the state coaches get out and see games where they can but are limited in what they can get too. Dale was at Grading and catches games each week. Dave Mitchell and Luke Petersen both coach u16 teams each week so they can't be everywhere. The other selectors are involved with teams too.

If you want to run your team by numbers thats fine but there are plenty of guys who don,t make the team who would be good enough to fill a role if called upon
Not everyone has to be a scorer but I will say this he is a better defender than all of those guys you mentioned, just depends on what you are looking for someone who can put the clamps on play a role and make no mistakes or another ball hog wanting to put up numbers
Dennis Rodman invented the role and it is still valid today, Again depends on what the coach is looking for but just because you dont get selected doesn.t mean you are not good enough

I don't want to get personal because Aaron is a good player, but he is not a better defender than Garret, BC, Seth or even Jake, maybe the others, definetly better defender than Agon who plays one end only. You need to take off the rose colored glasses if you think he's the best defender in the state (and if he's better than all the others listed, he'd have to be).
And a state team has to be somewhat built by positions, You need a PG,, some great wings, a versatile post and a centre. Can't take all wings and no bigs or vice verca, yes it means some decent players will not make the team, but they are still 3rd, 4th, 5th Best each time. And the top 3-4 best in each position were there on Sunday at Ipswich. Including Rodmanesque players!

Agreed 100%. Look at Strybos, he isn't there for offense. Jeremy Kelly is there soley for size as he cant defend or rebound. There are quite a few others that aren't there for offence. I mean any team with Scheibner needs no more offense haha. Sometimes thats a problem however.

I'm more suprised to see Jalen and Dylan Kay and Doug jones still there. Now with Agon and Grant Durack out I wouldn't be suprised to see holloway advance to the final squad. And I believe Max is almost a shoe in to the team, however I also though Agon was.

WOW i'm speechless, my son is still on the team, luckily, but honestly after all those trainings and watching how different players are performing i dont understand what this coach is looking for in his players. Good luck to all those players that survived the cut because its clear not only to me but everyone that you can make this team even if your resting your ass on the bench.

What the hell happened what did he do to get tossed was it before the game. Must have been justified if ban was imposed and court controller was not disciplined PLEASE EXPLAIN
He switched associations didnt ask the court controllers kid to cross with him then got honoured as a hero of Gold Coast basketball due his representation and family involvement in the era of the real Gold Coast basketball. Just got too much public spotlight that wasnt on her for one poor lady who believes in the old adage of a good court controller beats a good coach and his team anyday. Pretty confident she had an "in" at BQ too who would smooth the way for whatever she wanted to do. Thankfully sanity prevailed and BQ ruled appropriately even though this lady has singlehandedly given Franks Seahawks U/18's 3 losses which would have been wins this season. Rumour shes taking up refereeing so she can really make a difference in her sons competition.

So what would you do? force players to trial with an injury or cut them for being injured 5 months out from the real competition. Hope the moderators dont know who you are cause one word to the coach and your sons chances of getting cut increse dramatically. No coach needs ignorant opinionated parents poisoning the players and supporters experience

I think you will find that Seahawks are not only team playing a player without a clearance. Just hope BQ stick by the rules and punish those who live outside them. No matter which asssociation.

Thats BQ job not mine. I like many have tried to inform in the past without even a response. Watch what happens as it is happening. Try going through teams to see who have moved over last twelve months. It is not brain draining stuff.

True you can't force them to play, but in some situations it is getting beyond ridiculous! And tosser much?? What does an internet site have to do with state selections? Most of the time selection is dependent on a player's ability and not what people write on a website.

Such a shame when the wannabe "state parents" (apparently its a recognised clique and phenomena around most state teams) start tearing at each others throats and kids so they can get membership of this most "exclusive" (but wanker bullshit in reality) "Club".
If a kid is injured right now, but his past performances and abilities have been outstanding and identified across multiple levels of basketball then its fair enough if a state coach is willing to assess all the relevant medical data and prognosis and include the kid on the judgement that the kid will be ready to fill the role needed by tournament time.
Would be really disappointed to think any moderator from Bendoes would risk breaking the law and identifying a poster to anybody apart from the state or federal police or under court subpoena and/or that any state coach would give a fig about who writes what about who should and shouldnt be in their state team.. You can be assured that Dale Ryan wouldnt be influenced by what he knows are only parents pushing their kids barrows on Bendoes. You could also be sure that he wouldnt need a moderator to act improperly to know who some posters are just by the ridiculous inclusion of a totally no hope name (their kids) in their theoretical state team.
You'll find good coaches (and Dales one) simply shake their heads at the parental antics and try not to take the "easy" path and make the problem go away by cutting the kid. Kids cant be responsible for their parents actions but when those actions cross that fine line of tolerance it wouldnt be the first time a good kid has been cut in the interests of overall team harmony.
The only thing Dale will be able to be accused of will be a likely heavy BBI loading (they employ him after all) but IF that does happen he's a good enough coach to turn a result with the team he takes anyway and any doubters can go whistle. If you as a parent cant match the State Coaches coaching quals and experience then best probably not question their professional opinions?

In any selection of a team the age old question is what do you do with selection. Do you pick the ten best and then try and develop a team from that or do you pick the ten players who would gel together and through synergy will create a better team. I believe in juniors you need to pick the the best 10 kids and try to manage them as a team. there needs to be a reward for playing well, not just because you are a member of a good team (BBI) where you can get carried along because of the quality of your teammates. The same happens in Rugby League where the kangaroos that travel overseas always include a top heavy selection from the premiers because they are the latest players the selectors see. This happens with juniors, the strong associations have an over representation in the state teams because the good quality players drag them along. the state selectors have an obligation to look closely at all players and select on the basis of individual talent, no matter who they play for. This will help develop these players for senior representation. If the state coaches have a biased eye to pick from their own association then they deserve not to be in the job. the current state of origin qld team have been so successful because Mal Meninga has no club affiliation and can therefore select with a totally unbiased eye. Think about it.

What's with all the football analogy? We're talking about basketball. I don't believe in simply picking the 10 "best" players. You need guys that can play off each other and can fill a role in the coach's selected system. There's a reason the San Antonio Spurs have won so many championships in the last decade, and it's not always because they had the 10 "best" players.

That actually isn't too bad of a team. However I'd have Sam instead of Jarrod gamble. I was expecting Agon, however Brandon is a better team player and will take appropriate shots opposed to agon just throwing shots up there.

that actually isn't too bad of a team. But I'd have Sam instead if jarrod gamble for sure. Was expecting agon but now that he is out brandon would be a suitable option, simply because he looks like he passes and takes good shots. Also may have max in there instead of chia.

Yeh the poster certainly has an axe to grind and bit extreme to shut down the site but can see the point I think he's trying to make. Parents coming on and 'selecting' state teams and suggesting one kid over another directly is just ludicrous. Its usually only 9 and 10 that are subject to conjecture anyway and talking their kid up and downing another just to try and be part of the 'stage parents' club is crap. Leave it to the coach and selectors and let your kid make their own way.

On the contrary, I think spots 1-10 are tightly contested this year and I would not be surprised to see any of those names (bar a few that were mentioned in the state team above) selected in the actual squad.

team selection is always an interesting subject because very few would selct the same team and so opinions are quite relevant. It doesn,t matter it,s only opinion
As for the person ranting about parents I have seen similar posts obviously from you for years.

Why does it always have to be about a players evil parents writing their names in possible state team lists? I agree the lists have become more erratic of late but on most accounts the players whose names are listed are there deservedly so. Recieving recognition from the the bendoes basketball community as a whole not necessarily their parents.

Everyones opinion counts equally they are not selecting the team just giving their opinion
Makes no difference whether they coached or played or not.
The guy going on about parents is a nutter who is often ranting about all kinds of things and insulting people left right and center but don,t dare disagree as his is the only opinion that counts in his strange little world
He has coached and thinks he is the man but interestingly the PARENTS of many of the players he has coached are less than impressed

Well, I have posted my thoughts and responded to other peoples. I have no children at all, so am not a parent name pushing. I am a coach and have coached at the same levels as Dale. I do not coach u18 Boys and have no ties to any of the players trialling. But I know who they are, I see them play, I've seen some of the trials. I enjoy the discussion and share my opinion on who I think may make the final cut. I do not talk down those I do not think will make it, nor criticise the Coaches for decisions they make. I just enjoy reading others opinions, sharing mine, discussing the viewpoints and watching the team unfold.
So I do not fit the mould referred to as a state parent wannabe, so not all posts here are from them. And not all posts have an agenda. You however do sound like a state parent wannabe who missed out and have decided it was talk on Ben Does that robbed your son.
I do not believe anything i write here affects the outcome of the state team, so see no value in someone pushing one player or another for that reason. You are giving to much influence to a site that is for the enjoyment of it's readers only.

A very rare breed indeed on this particular thread. (NBL assistants writing in to Bendoes on U/18 selections???) Very rare.
If the opinions offered had some degree of knowledge and expertise to them past their sons jersey number and with no agenda (as you say yours are) they are worth being published. How much discussion would there be on this thread around state time if the only opinions were from coaches qualified to comment? Be pretty quiet I reckon. Quite right that nothing written here makes one iota of difference to a state teams selection despite what some parents think.

Oh and I forgot to mention he always has to have the last word even if it doesn't make sense and keeps thrashing a dead horse
loves to guess who is posting - usually incorrectly and then attack his victims
Best advice ignore the insanity there is no reasoning with someone as unstanble as this guy

Just got the inside word on the Caps. Major problems in the camp
Players have lost faith in the coaching staff
May explain the big drop in form of late all other teams improving Caps getting worse

Man who is this unstable dead horse thrashing victimising nutter you've got such a hate on for??!!! If you named them and could verify your statements in court as fact not slanderous opinion (assuming you have the money and evidence to substantiate your claims) then whatever the ruling at least one of you could be locked up and make society safe again. Since you dont actually name anyone can only reason the issues are all yours.
No doubt there are hundreds of people out there just sweating on your invaluable advice. Hahahaha!

"Players lost faith in coaching staff" I'm not surprised, this guy came back from Nationals with a bad result and had many parents that went saying ordinary things about the trip (rotations, playing minutes, etc)
I hope he can turn things around, but history would say not. Would not be the first U18 boys team that has under performed under him.

Underperforming? They've lost 1 game to the team at the top of the table!

Yeah I wholeheartedly agree. The only reason people think they are "underperforming" is because of all the rubbish hype they receive on here about being the team of the decade. One loss is hardly a cause for concern. Best of luck to them, don’t know the coach, but take solace in knowing that when you are at the top people are always trying to knock you off...

Would it have something to do with the twins. Word is that the are hated by the rest of the team. To individual and ball hogs ( the black hole syndrome) .I believe that Maroochydore were happy to see the end of them and their father.

I don't think it has anything to do with the twins, the problem is there are to many individual players on the team. I've watched 2 of there games now and all I seen was the guards taking all the shots. There is no talk on the court and until they start playing as a team they will continue to struggle.

I thought the result at Nationals was exceptional. The team exceeded expectations
The only issue we had with the twins was geography as they could not train with us regularly. Would have liked to have them living here for a season to see what we ciuld achieve.
Their father put in a huge effort last year with the time and the cost to travel regularly and pay twice what other oarents had to on top for prem games and classic costs
I wish them the best of luck

The Bergens, Strybos, Jeremy get about 5 shot attempts per game, about the same as Nicky. Garrett gets about 20. Brendan gets about 15 as does Anthony Kelly. The rest of the bench gets under 5 each. You should watch just one game and see ;).

By your description above you have not seen ANY games, you're just a shit stirring wannabe. The amount of cheap shots people take here on so many young kids and great players is sadly typical of our narrow minded petty culture that surrounds our great sport. My guess is these boys have schooled you or your kid and your gunna get even on Ben Does, sad!!
Kirron Bryne is the Caps coach and was last year's state U 18 HC. The team came 4th in the nation in 08. Not bad for his first attempt and I agree with Waz, they over achieved last year. Bryne would have to be pretty dirty to take his first state team to the meadal round and not get reappointed in 09.
Personally I think the Cap boys have the most talent in the comp. When and if they start to get some consistency and familiarity with each other they will continue to be a force. They have barely trained together and KB knows peaking in December is useless. Don't forget they have hammered Logan, GC and R Bay by around 30 each, they are still a force.
IMO only 3 teams can win classics, Brissy, MDore or Townsville no one else!

this is a strong opinion. there is still 8 games left till finals and 10 till classics. teams will improve as they gain there footing and then any team has a chance at taking out classics. those 3 teams are the favorites yes, but there are plenty more teams with talent and ability to beat those teams

Wow! Why is that? Is it because Keiron and the other coaches havent been closing out efficiently, showing hands on defence, blocking their man out offensively and defensively not making the extra pass to the open man are too soft cant live up to the parental hype land are not fit enough? Dam! Good help is just so hard to find these days especially when you have a group of parents and players whose ambitions and opinions dont match their capabilities. Yep. Its the coaches fault. Lazy buggers just need to run harder and faster so we can keep skiting about our all star all time kiddies on Bendoes and around the Brisso barbeque set.

buddy it was 22,
im guessing you had a look at the score sheet after the game aswell
and seen the 22 point difference at the end of the 2nd?
They were down by 22 points at half time. I dont know you guys give Logan such a hard time. They are a good team!!!! or maybe thats the problem - its not Logan shitting their pants but other teams!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

that just shows that they have heart and dont give up,
logan will be a better team next time and will win it by 20

What the hell happened what did he do to get tossed was it before the game. Must have been justified if ban was imposed and court controller was not disciplined PLEASE EXPLAIN
Heard the Seahawks might be playing Gold Coast in U/18 boys as a curtain raiser to the next Blaze home game. Dont know whether it will count for points or anything but could be an indication of what those two teams actually have with neutral referees and no Gold Coast court coordinator ejecting coaches. Sure to have the scouts out for a look see.

More thinking other coaches in the league might be interested in what these two teams are actually capable of. Saw a bit of their last "game" and thought there was enough in both teams to give both the top two a real shake if they werent ready to play. Despite what some might tell you theres no locals scouting for US colleges from the u/18 PL. Hear theres a few who write and call trying to push kids and they are politely acknowledged and noted but scouting starts higher up the chain at Nationals and All Australian camps where recomendations are sought from coaches established at that level. Fair few get along to u/20 Nationals then to have their first actual look at how a player might measure up to their colleges program. Kids at the AIS are on the radar from day one naturally.

I believe there are a few other teams who can spring a surprise at classics...
thos teams being;
spartans- have showed massive improvement since start of season and without a few players against logan definately showeed the comp they can mix it with the top few teams and i think with continuing improvement can win..
logan- dark horse have instruments to be a damaging team and possibly win classics
runaway bay- as shown against m'dore, can beat the best teams..

You are absolutely correct. Partly because the games are shortened and the best teams will have less time to establish superiority
numerous 20 30 and even 40 point wins are even at half time or 3/4 time and the difference shows as the game progresses
Also having three games a day teams will gamble with energy levels knowing they may have tough games later in the day they will try to conserve energy and use the bench instead of putting teams away. When the score is close and the underdog gets a sniff anything can happen.
Example Mdore lost 2 games at grading last year in 20 min games and wound up in 2nd div. I guarantee in a 40 min game they would have prevailed
Food for thought

They have not won a game and sit on the bottom of the PL ladder, is that what you call competitive?
Ippy boy David Prior is still in the last 18 or so with the State squad, Declan Stratis played U 16 state last year, they would be this "competitve" team's 2 best players.
