New Thread for a New Season

Just want to see what parents thoughts about topic below. Is it something you would take your kids to on a weekly basis:

Parent:
I wish there was somewhere on a Sunday someone would start up a development program for kids to do a four hour session grade kids not by age but by their skill so they have to work themselves up to the next level. Doesn't matter what club they are from work on skills play them in teams I would pay and travel to locations for my kids to do this and I know alot of other parents who would do the same

Coach:
While I think its a great idea, and the idea is sure to been tried before. It is nearl impossible to organise. Try find the coachs to start. You would need a 'name coach' to attract the parents to it. If I put my hand up and said I would run something like this we would have about 20 kids, lol. But if Peter Pollock or Steve Edwards or the like said they would do it then maybe you would get 80.

You would never get Gov funding for a program like this as they would direct us back to BQ, good luck there.....

If you want to talk more about this send me an email. I have some ideas I'd share with you.

Can I give some advise to parents who have kids that a tall and play forward/centre position make sure your kids train in the guard position as well, you may have to look to pay for extra training in this field because coaches will only look to improve them in the position they are needed at the time and as smaller kids can't be forward or centres they are going to be stronger in there field. So that way your kids don't get blown off every second year when they are trying out for lower age southern, to kids the year above who don't make it into premier go southern because they are a year taller. That way you have a chance still of getting a guard position instead.

Good advice. I would also reccommend that as a parent I would find someone that knows about rep & basketball, then interegate them!

then interegate them!

What does this mean? Is intergate a word?

South West need to update there reffing system because it is not up to scratch.
Todays Game in U12boys (Yes I know it's u16 Forum) South West vs BBI Gold. Throughout the game there were numerous occasions that the refs blew the whistle realised that nothing happened and made up a bogus call. This eventually cost BBI the win. BBI coach did question the ref educator were he was told "Shut up, sit down you don't know anything about Basketball". I did speak to him after the game when he had the scoresheet the fouls were BBI 19 SW 20 so not to much to argue with there though the last call the ref made to decide the game was the worst call I believe that BBI are putting in a official complaint to BQ. SWgot a offensive rebound ran into his own teammate and the ref called a foul on the BBI player who was at least 1metre away from the play. This meant shots and SW made the second and won the game 62-61. As I said the scoresheet I had a look at after the game and saw the Quarter time scores.

1st - SW 12 BBI 15
2nd - SW 14 BBI 17
3rd - SW 11 BBI 18
4th - SW 25 BBI 11

Yes in the last quarter BBI did turn the ball over 3 times and miss 4 uncontested layups though for SW to score almost half of the points in the final quarter? Something Fishy is going on at Hibiscus.

Now that you have all read. I am ready for all refs and SW players/parents to give it to me.

Just look at the last foul of the game. The kid from SW ran into his own team and somehow that translated into a foul on BBI, something fishy indeed.

Sorry forgot to mention the score at the time was 61 - 61 and there where no BBI boys any where near the ball with 2.1 seconds left.

Please remember this is Under 12 boys...... what sort of example are we setting if we take this so seriously???...... surely it is how the game is played that accounts to a winning effort or not..... calls will always be interesting in Under 12s..... this is where refs gain experience.... frustarting as it may be it is small in the scheme of things... hope you enjoy your next game....

So, Can the Coast beat the Maroochydites this weekend? Maroochy have had the Coast covered the last two games?

Will the Coast's experience show thru with "Little Rock" and "Pebble" Cameron having been here last year and "Boof" Frankland with 2 years previous experience under the belt.

Can the Coast stop "The Shooter"???

Should be a cracker of a game whatever the outcome. It will set the scene for a great day of finals at Auchenflower.
