Ipswich will not make PL (div 1)
Ipswich will not make PL (div 1)
hmmm they competed well last season @ 16s with many bottom aged players, jason ralph will tear it up this season too.
Ipswich will not make PL (div 1)
If Ipswich retain the setup they had last season in U16s they will be fine.
The Future
05-08-09, 14:32
Ipswich, Districts and Brisbane due to a few little movement of players will fill top three spots in boys with no one who matters finishing fourth.
In the girls Logan, Districts, Runaway Bay and Maroochydore will lead the south with Townsville the only thing that will matter in the north.

Ipswich won Div 1 when of u12 Two years ago with basically same group, so they will do well. Word is Derksen from Toowoomba going to Districts so they will be stacked.

Why would Josh Derksen travel to Spartans, driving past Ippi who have the best point guard in the comp. Wouldn't he better off playing with Jason Ralph. Just think of the great passes he would receive in the key!

no rules as far as I know.

i believe there is no rule for how clubs you trial for but you can only be registered with one and you require a transfer if you change clubs

So say I'm with Brisbane can I try out for Brisbane and Spartans or any other club for rep.
What about just for junior basketball if Gold Coast are on Friday night can I play runaway bay Saturday morning. For example.
Are clubs okay with this because I was under the impression you are to be loyal with one club you can only try out with one but if this is not the case(have heard kids trying out for more then one club) it would be nice to know for next year.

Yes you can try out for more than one club, but the real question is should you??? Where is the loyalty? While waste the time of one coach if you are only there to see who turns up or as was the case last season.."to get extra training".

Can any one let me know if there is any where kids can turn up for like scrimage games with good coaches to practice in different teams with different kids in a controlled enviroment, I just find once a week for 40mins isn't enough time for my son to get more confidence while playing he has good ball skills but doen't get enough time to practice once a week in a game.

Play them in their age group and play them up in the next age group, if your club comp is on a fri nite play at an association that has a jnr sat comp. If they are old enough consider putting them in a lower grade mens comp. My kids both play 4 games a week (ughhhhh!!!!!!) so its possible :)

My son has played at the same association since U10s, in that time he as had some good and not so good rep coaches. I thought about moving to another association a few times over the years for better coaching but he didnt want to leave his mates. So I got him to do 1 on 1 sessions with a personal coach. And found that helped immensely with his ongoing development.
Play up a grade, mens, even look at a niehbouring assoc for extra games in the 'off-season' but 3 games a week + school + training should be enough if they are practicing their personal skills everyday for an hour. Thats more than most kids do in Australia. The US is a different story, 4hrs training a day minimum, gym coachs, shooting coachs just about everything as a coach over there. But I guess thats why they crap over us at the olympics etc.

Our school offers nothing when it comes to basketball, looking to transfer next year or two didn't know about GPS schools. What age can you play for mens? I have found at our club, playing up, you can't play in other teams even if the other teams are short, other than your own (our team turn up most of the time so they don't give you much court time to be fair to the ones that are of age) never thought about going to other assoc thought that was a no no.
I just find coaches expect you to know certain things rather find your faults and helping you with them. Harder when you come into basketball later age. We have Dvds take him to games to watch but on court knowlege basic defence and rebounding and general confidence on court is hard to learn by yourself.

I wish there was somewhere on a Sunday someone would start up a development program for kids to do a four hour session grade kids not by age but by their skill so they have to work themselves up to the next level. Doesn't matter what club they are from work on skills play them in teams I would pay and travel to locations for my kids to do this and I know alot of other parents who would do the same.

Say you had 80 kids a session, 4 levels in one session you would need 4 courts , Two 4 hour sessions charge $20 a head thats $3200 for one day is it worth thinking about to someone who has the means to do this, you could have a one off join up fee.
Great idea guys, we have done similar things at Redlands for the development of new rep players. The coachs volunteered for 1 weekend in a 6 week rotation and we worked on a different skill each week. This was only training with a game at the end though.
I know of a few groups that train on Sundays, every sunday and they train in strength and fitness as well as skills, but mainly the fitness.
Only prob is every association has the same issue. Court times.
But i like the way you think.
I think Northside Runs their comp on Sundays, but dont quote me on that.

This is what we need for our kids especially away from all the club politics, where they can just love the game, improve their skills and self confidence. There are skills development coaches around but not many with the knowledge or demeanor to do something like this, especially when you would want 1 per level, then an assistant each, so that's 8 ppl right there without considering a facility.
BTW don't you think 4 hours is kind of long for most kids, I'd prefer 2 hour blocks and still pay the $20.

I just find 1st hour kids are just warming up you have breaks in between 20 kids each court per level ball skills defense training then games at the end stop starting during to teach them placements and rotations picking them up on their mistakes and then fun game at the end with 20 kids rotated time goes fast kids would play all day if they could.
You would work out a price suit fees and costs make it a non profit organization left over money goes to charity could get sponsorship deals, help from the govenment I have found stadiums are not busy on a sunday if they could guarenteed booking every sunday full day they will find time for you.

I have found kids are just warming up after and hour, 20 kids per court teaching ball skills defence, plays everything you need to know about basketball in each level, breaks in between, court knowledge, games at the end, team building learning to work as a team. Times goes fast. We have been to blaze and bullets programs they go all day, kids are happy to do so they could play all day if they could. You work out a fee to suit parents to afford to come back each week, my thoughts you will have to many kids wanting to join. I know at least 2 excellent coaches who could train ball skills. And the fees would go towards paying coaches and stadium fees, make it a not for profit money left over to go to charity get the goverment behind and sponsorship deals. I think this is what we have been needing for a while as for stadiums they are not busy a sundays if they get full day fees every sunday they will find space for us. Older kids would get involved to help out great for resumes. We just need to take the next step.
Well since you have it all worked out, why are you coming here? to recruit kids?

I'm just a parent not recruiting just offering ideas to anyone who has the tools and know how. Seeing if anyone else feels the same way.
while I think its a great idea, and the idea is sure to been tried before. It is nearl impossible to organise. Try find the coachs to start. You would need a 'name coach' to attract the parents to it. If I put my hand up and said I would run something like this we would have about 20 kids, lol. But if Peter Pollock or Steve Edwards or the like said they would do it then maybe you would get 80.
You would never get Gov funding for a program like this as they would direct us back to BQ, good luck there.....
If you want to talk more about this send me an email. I have some ideas I'd share with you.

- Who will be the top players in both div 1 / div 2?
- What's going on with player movement? Is Derkson on the move as reported? Is he STILL un16's?

Seems to be a common theme for BBI hey, tons of kids? heaps of teams? normally 3 teams an age group for them, must be good to have such competition in the tryouts. thats why all teams normally successful in the divs.
Where are all these kids coming from though? out of interest is it a school that puts their kids through BBI?
Redlands had 23 try out and that included a couple of Spartans boys from last years 2nd team, both of whom made the first redlands team.

I'm not completely au fait with how they roll, but I would think it's a combination of the GPS system plus BBI's perennial success along with disillusioned kids moving from other associations to one that is at least centrally based. One complaint I have heard about coming to play in Redlands is, "oh it's so far to travel", guess Auchenflower doesn't experience that.
No, that wasn't an invitation to flame Redlands, much as some of you numpties like to...

Reading all these comments from parents has got me thinking.
I am a high level coach, with playing and coaching experience and I have done my apprenticeship under many locally and world acclaimed coaches....therefore I am quite confident in my abilities to develop and improve players.
Have been thinking for a while of making my own business on the side doing individual coaching sessions for those players just outside of making rep programs, or for those who wanna get better, or are trying to make the state team.
Would anyone be interested in taking up such an offer?
How much would one think is reasonable payment for 1 hour sessions?
any other ideas that would benefit such a role?
just curious as to see if I should get the ball rolling or not......

Mate I'm sure there would be some bunnies that would part with dough based on your self recomendations but parents of kids who have had any level of coaching before (and so fit the grade you are talking about) would probably ask firstly your name then what "high level" you have coached at, the names of the locally and "world acclaimed" coaches you've done your apprenticeship under, which colleges or programs youve done your high level apprenticeship in, what liason you have with the State coaches (besides adoring admiration on Bendoes) what All Australian camps and NITC camps youve worked in, what knowledge or experience youve had at National or International tournaments or even just attended and liased with coaches on current trends and last but not least what high level tournaments have you won as a head coach or assistant.
If you can write all that down on a resume and it fills those requirements and can be substantiated then by all means get the ball rolling. If not probably coach as much as you can for a few years until someone notices you and takes you onboard.

Beg borrow steal intimidate connive bribe or just plain grovel to get yourself into a program that Bruce Palmer heads up then work till any hour he demands doing his video scouting then make sure you stay awake to sit with him and listen while he breaks down game tape. If you can hack the pace and dont overdose on coffee your coaching stats will magically and drastically improve like you found a genie in a bottle! If you can learn and understand a quarter of what this guy knows and teach it you have a chance of attracting customers. Your results will be the advertising.

from the 35 they are picking a gold team, silver team and a development squad of 15 instead of a bronze team
from what i have seen at trials and based on reputation alone i would say
regan
oscar
cobby
buff
tim weigh
jake stalder
joel (from logan)
lots of other good players competing for the last few spots on the team. it'll be a strong group what they lack in hight they make up for in depth and athleticism. it'll be a two horse race between bbi and spartans this year.

6th & 7th Feb Carnival (Rd 8-10)
http://www.sportingpulse.com/get_file.cgi?id=546315
Taken from a BQJBC calendar for 09-10 season , looks like there will be 3 games over one or two days. Anyone have any ideas:-
1. Why ?
2. Where is the carnival held , central sites ?
3. Who came up with such a stupid idea ?
4. What is the benefit of this ?
Thought I would put this in this forum as it seems to get the most comments.

According to rules info sent to all Associations, this "Carnival" is to ensure complete number of rounds can be completed before BQJBC finals are to start.
Nominations are being sought for where this will be held, will be different associations for different age groups/ divisions.
Believe it was BQ's own idea
Means all rounds of Premier League are completed (each team twice) and whichever format chosen for Southern/Challenge cup comps complteted. Avoids teams having Random Double Header weekends, everone on same footing.

Why dont BQ align the playing seasons with NSW and Victoria. Their season runs from first week in March to the end of June. 15 Rounds followed by State Championships ( QLD Classics) then state teams selected for Nationals later in the year. U14 Nationals are played in October therefore teams are not required to stay together for 6 months after the QLD season finishes.
No breaks mid season for Xmas just as the season gets started only to stop again.
Would be all done and dusted by October ready to start for the odd age season over the Summer.

it's not that original or that stupid SEQ is the only region that doesn't have carnivals over a weekend so the teams play multiple games although ours is a logistics reason.. and Classics are played over a few days where the kids play 2 sometimes 3 games a day anyway so it's good preparation to see what sort of depth your team has...

I think any Development program is better then none. They had so many turn up why let kids that have protental go. If they have great coaches its up to the kids to get better at least they have the tools there to make them stronger. Then Brisbane will have a strong team every year. Other Assoc should watch out there teams maybe squeezed out if Brisbane put through more than two strong teams.

also should be mentioned that this years top age u16s group at Brisbane is very strong and very deep and the bottom age group is not!
This is the first year of the development squad, it is a good idea but will need to be well organised and well coached for the kids (and parents) to feel it is wothwhile and that the kids are not better off going to another association to play week in week out rather than just developing!

Why don't we wait and see what all the teams have to bring. There has always been awseome competition in this age group and with all the moving around some previous quieter players will step up to the plate. Every team has some great guards and bigs. Can't wait to see Spartan team on the court. I watched a kid train last week Joel Elbers looks like a point guard, awesome D and very fast on court. It will all be very interesting, I wouldn't be calling it yet.

Thought the 'knock, knock' joke about "Hillary Who?", was better....and more fitting for the U/14's age group than the heavy duty stuff getting thrown down here. Pays to remember that you are 'forming' the future culture and ideals of a new generation of basketballers when you get involved at this tender age. (Probably why Polly is a legend with the age group and kids who are successful later on remember it was Polly who started it for them.)
Of course if its just kids doing the verbalising...why not just zip the s*&% and make your point on game day?! Just a thought.

Heard a rumour that Dave Owen is state coach for 2010.....should make life easy for the Brisbane boys
Why is that?
Owens did not get the coaching job he applied for at BBI for rep season 09, and knocked back the job he was offered. He is not happy with BBI, so no idea why he would favor them?
It's official too by the way, no rumour, Owens is U 16 state coachm for 2010.
Soccer...way more than that
Other sports get you in other ways, trust me I know.....$500 (basketball) a year is $10 a week...some parents spend more on beers, smokes, a punt etc.....I think $10 a week is cheap for an indoor sport with the social life that goes with it..
AFL does a great job promoting the sport....they also hit you with ticket deals to the Lions every other day and all sorts of sneaky $ earners.....Check out what it costs to go to see the Lions in Brissy...then check out what it costs to go see a game at the MCG in Melbourne...there is a reason for the difference !!!
Why would anyone want to play netball on concrete???
Do Gold Coast offer discounts or freebies for BQJBC players? I know the Logan WNBL does.
The ol' Bullets used to give tickets to the patrons of ABC Child Care, we saw about 6 games a year for free. And when they made the finals we also got tickets.
Just on the Costs of playing junior sport, Redlands have included all game fees and training costs into their annual Rep fees, I dont know how much it is exactly.
admin: Attempt to move posts regarding costs into their own thread has ended in a massive fail. sorry about the stuff up.
We tried to book tickets to take a rep team and families to a Blaze game...after 3 phone calls where no one we managed to get on the phone could handle the booking or the questions I had regarding seating for disabled patrons, leaving my number for the woman in charge of it all to call me (I was assured by the person on the phone she would call me back the same day) and an email requesting my number so they could sort it all out over the phone (received on 22 Sept), I am still waiting. The game we had planned to attend was on last night...

Yeah Northside runs U16s - 20s on Sunday Night

Solid starting 5 if you ask me, they did my team over twice last year with 3 out those guys. BBI 2 were also a very solid team last year so I think it will be the 2 best games of the season until one of them loses thier semi to some left field team. I love a challenge, hehehe. Logan just made it through playing with a young team from what I saw sunday, I think they only have 3 top age kids. No upper age bigs compared to NS Spardans and Brisbane. Ns Brissy Spartans and Ipswich to dominate Gold Coast didn't look like much either.
I think logan will beat M/Dore and Gold Coast Sunday they were missing two main players and considering how young and small didn't do to badly against North Side at grading just wait and see who will grow as a team this year

Oooh... goody! More time and attention for players who are already committed to basketball. That'll really stop the gushing river flowing to AFL (or not even starting basketball to being with) that will.
Look, great work to everyone who puts these things together and ignoring the top level completely is not the way to go.. but time and time and time again we hear of more and more and more things organised for the top level and nothing at all for the new and learning players.
There's a reason the NBL is incomplete this year and might stuggle into the future. You'd think someone would have worked out by now that you can't expect different results doing the same thing.
50 kids does not fill a stadium.

I know what it is. The point is that this is the only thing that gets done. Compared to the structure of successful sports, there are no learn to play camps in basketball.
Or priorities are stuffed up.

I think that's part of the problem. The perception is that the state team is already selected. yet developmently kids of this age are starting to grow into their bodies and brains and instead of welcoming and nurturing, the apperance is that the same old faces are crammed into sausage machane.

According to Murry Aldred it is not a selection trial for the U 16's, it is a development camp run by the state coaches. On the other hand the U 18's is indeed a trial. Should be interesting to see the two contrasts as both 16's and 18's are on at Cornubia at the same time.
As far has picking the state team, I think it is way too early, but you can probably pencil in Towers, Derksen and Wilson one would imagine?

The best player in the state is josh derkson. Ralphy is small and was dominated at grading by wilson. (from what i saw) which was most of it. Ralphys good but i think he needs to grow more And become a better defender; but great shooter and a smarrt offensive guard.

he has become a better defender then what he was at. josh derkson is over rated.
with wilson and ralphy running the point for state, it is very strong pg's.

Not everything people post on here is serious. The above post could be classified as sattire. Someone ( I very much doubt Jase) wanted to have some fun talkin him up to get a rise on here, well they got one didn't they. When a player in u14's is referred to as starving for an NBA championship, that's a pretty good sign the poster is messing around.
To the poster, thanks for a good laugh
To everyone who bit, thinking it was a serious post, thanks for an even better laugh.

You will find ther is a quite a few Aussie kids that have been scouted/looked at by Colleges. We must still be flavour of the month in the US with a record number of Aussies playing NBA. Does anyone know exactly how many Aussies are currently playing in the US College system? I would expect there would be a fair few.

A little bit of both. Seahawks scored a run of baskets at the end of the game to make it look closer than it was. Brisbane players not happy with the way they played. Will be looking for a better game next week.

Spartans beginning to gel, starting to step up in D, hopefully injury free for their first real hit out v Wizards... lost by 3 in grading should come out trumps by ????
Brisbane too good for Ipswich, even if Ralphy plays.

Brissy Gold will have to pick their game up this week. Playing Ipswich at home and in extreme western heat expected 35 degrees probably 38 on the courts, could give Ippy a good advantage over Gold even with out Ralphy.
