Portland To Evaluate Mills Soon

Sep 11, 2009 7:47 AM EST

Patrick Mills is set to be evaluated by the Blazers within the next ten days.

Mills is expected to travel to Portland to finish up his rehab for an injured right foot, according to Beyond The Beat.

"He's meeting with a spe^^^^^^t for the last time Monday [in Australia], and then he's supposed to get back on the court and do a little bit of running," Saint Mary's College assistant coach Dan Patrick said by phone.

"He's on track but with a foot you never want to push it. He's back home training at the Australian Olympic Institute where he lifts about four hours a day as part of his rehab, doing conditioning in the pool and riding a bike. They are training to keep his weight and everything in tact before he gets back on the court."

Portland wants to evaluate Mills and his foot before they make a decision about the point guard's future with the team.

"Patty has had a lot of opportunities to go to Europe and people want to sign him regardless of the injury for big money, but that's not what he wants to do. He's always wanted to make the NBA. He wants to play for the Blazers or play in the NBA this year. That's what he wants to do. But at this point, he's just going to come back to Portland and see what happens – see if they place him overseas, keep him or let him go. You never know how it's going to go – it's tricky," Patrick told Wendall Maxey.

The Portland Trail Blazers signed guard Patrick Mills to a contract, it was announced today by General Manager Kevin Pritchard. Per team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Portland selected Mills (6-0, 185) with the 55th overall pick in the second round of the 2009 NBA Draft after playing two seasons at St. Mary’s (CA) College.

Mills, who fractured the fifth metatarsal in his right foot during an NBA Summer League practice session on July 9, underwent successful surgery on July 13 and is continuing his rehabilitation on schedule.

I was reading on a trail blazers blog that they think the only reason they signed Mills was to waiver him before the season starts, his contract is not guarenteed and he is refusing to go to Europe or the NBDL, he is hoping to be waivered and then picked up by another NBA team?

Not sure how it all works but maybe he should have taken the offer of signing with Blazers and let them retain his rights and send him to Europe for a year or 2 to develope because he is not NBA ready as yet.

Hope I am wrong and he stays and plays this year with Blazers but can not see it myself!

Strange part is he is up on Blazers website in like promotional banenrs and stuff.

Seems weird fr someone you didn't want to sign or play. But also Blazers are deep in the guards spots so maybe they will let him go?

Looks like I was wrong he has not been waivered yet maybe he is a stayer! Funny roster though with Mills being the 4th point guard on the roster most teams seem togo with 3! Mills behind, Blake, Miller, Bayliss. Think maybe they are show casing Blake as the starter to trade him? because Miller was their big free agent pick up and he is a starter in this league. I think Mills is still out with his broken foot? not sure on his return date?
