MEDIA RELEASE
After a great year of competition in the South East Australian Basketball League where the Carina Leagues Club lady Spartans won the Championship and the Arrow Caravan & Towbar Spartans finished second work has already started on the next generation with the recruitment of Mr Peter Pendle to the program.
Pendle who played a major role in coaching Queensland State teams and the Brisbane Bullets has joined the Southern Districts Spartans in the junior development area where he will spe%%%%%%e in the under twenty programs for both the men and women.
On Friday afternoons he will also start working on the bigger players in all age groups in preparation for the upcoming junior representative season.
“I am looking forward to a return to the sport after a few years off” he offered. “The Spartans have come a long way and I really believe I can help them in the junior ranks where they have so much talent”.
A student of the game Peter has also been one to do what ever its takes to improve both himself and those who he is coaching. He has attended power house NCAA programs in the USA such as Puget Sound, University of Nebraska and University of Chicago, ensuring his techniques are at the cutting edge. This he funded himself as part of his commitment to excellence’.
Pendle went on to say “I had the honour of working with Mr Vince Hickey, Mr Basketball himself, for seven years at Brisbane in the early years of the development of our sport and I have been the head of the Cairns basketball program as well as the North Queensland Development Officer along with numerous State coaching positions, so I am confident that the knowledge and experience which I will bring to the Spartans junior program will assist both the coaching and playing areas. I will be striving to ensure everyone involved can reach their full playing potential, whether this is at local, national or international level”.
“We had been looking for someone for so long that could start to re-ignite the junior program and when we became aware that Peter was available” stated Allan Ladewig, General Manager. “He brings a work ethic and knowledge that will help us at all levels”.
“The programs that Peter will be working on start with the under twenty men and women and will be followed by the most extensive shooting program ever offered in Queensland starting in February and while we waiting for that he will be working with our best big players. This is only the start and by March next year we hope to have more programs on offer that will assist both the p[layers and the parents so they can all enjoy the sport’ Ladewig went on to say.
Applications for position within the programs can be obtained by going to the Southern Districts website www.sdspartans.basketball.net.au

Spartans are calling for interested players (male and female) looking to be involved in our 2010/2011 "underpinning SEABL squads". You must email sdbal@bigpond.net.au to get a formal invite. No walk on's allowed. Players advised by email when and where (late July).
The squads will be coached by coaching staff from the 2011 SEABL program with the intention for the teams to play in the GBL Gold Division in coming season.
We will not be playing under 20 or D League preferring to focus on the GBL as a development league for players with potential who want to be involved in SEABL in coming years. Players will have to commit to training every week plus playing in Monday night or junior competitions conducted and managed by SDBAL.
Positions will be limited with trials being held. Players from other Associations are welcome to try out.
SDBAL has some definate plans for programs in 2011 and this will be only way you can access the program other then a personal invite from SEABL coaching staff.
Anyone interested can apply but must do so by email to above address.
