I think the hype sourounding Noosa at the start of the season was nothing but hype started by people on this forum. They wernt that convincing at grading and i think some people were just excited / suprised to see Noosa doing well.
GC are a tough outfit and will be a contender for 4th spot. Toowoomba, Noosa and Redlands to battle for 2nd.

We should also look at splits. In case two teams end up on same points at end of year.
Noosa d Toowoomba by 16.
Noosa d redlands by 23
Toowoomba d Redlands by 12.
Lets say these 3 teams beat all the other teams in the comp for the rest of the year and bbi goes undefeated(hypothetically), when it comes down to the splits in these teams Redlands was alot of work to do. Noosa seems to have put there good performances in when it counted and if they do drop games against either redlands or toowoomba they will need to loose by more tand 23 or 16 to loose the split.
So Redlands and Toowoomba will definelty need Noosa to drop a game to someone other then BBI or themselves to have a hope at 2nd place. Or alternatively they need to beat BBI to get that extra win that nobody else has atm.
In summary i believe Noosa has a good hold on 2nd place at this stage in the comp based on their good wins against their closest rivals.

True, But they're not as likely to end up in a tie with Noosa at the end of the season as Toowoomba or Redlands, so Head to Head Points are less likely to matter in those games.

Although we all seem to have a general consensus BBI will finish on top, looking at there stats is quite scary
- For/Against
They clearly have the best for and against in the comp. Defence seems to be there strong point as no other team is within 40pts of them here. Offenceively they are also no1, again 40+ differential from the next closest team. This should be a concern for us all.
They have won every game by double digits, with SWM getting the closest (13pts). They spanked GC, gave noosa the touch up none of us expected and have convincilgy accounted for the rest of the feild. The only xfactor is redlands where the 2 havent had a chance to play each other yet.
The second best defensive team appears to be caboolture. This makes me think if they can get there offence together they may finish higher up than there present position. They have also pushed Noosa and Brisbane, however went down to SW and scrapped home against GC. They need some consistancy too.
Second best offensive team is Toowoombah, at home lethel i think on the away games, well who knows.
SW are going to finish stronger and so are Logan. I dont think GC are as good as everyone thinks. It will be Noosa, Tbah, SWM, Redlands, Suns (logan may be in here) fighting over spots 2,3,4. Noosa have the big edge at 5-1. Logan and suns still to face off

Logan won't win any games this season, unless they change the coach! Suns will take that game when the time comes.
Redlands 484 for and Tba 483, If I am right that puts Redlands as the second best offensive record and I believe there is only 1 point difference between them in defence to date. Which is the 2nd and 3rd worst D in the comp.
After the carnival round we may know whos going to be in the finals and points for and against will def be the decider on who goes through to the top four and in what position.
I see Noosa winning 2. Redlands winning 2/3. Tba winning 2/3. SW will win 3. BBI 4 and the others will battle it out against each other to get a win.
SW have a 100% points difference after only winning 2 games.
Redlands have had 2 big losses and I see their third being the same, prob 25+ against BBI in the first game of the Carnival. They have not had a full squad for any game this year and beat GC with 2 capable CC players filling in, with a full squad they could be in 2nd prob also undefeated.
The stats show that each of the BBI boys are contributing evenly and consistantly with no body really standing out. That is the biggest concern for any team they play, being that they have 5/6 of last years U16 PL champions in the side they prob should be up there. But as we saw in the GF and a few other games last year they are susceptible after the break to an upset. And I think that there is only a few teams able to get near them (SW and Redlands if at full strength).

Yes, both those boys played great
Farley was not there due to other sporting commitments
Thinking redlands shall finish in 3rd
Well looks like the Nathan Farley theory got blown out of he water last night with Redlands showing they have a big inside and outside game with huge performances from Alex Dart ad Dylan Desmarchelier, both chipping in with 32 point games. Dylan lit it up from outside with a handful of massive threes as well as some impressive drives to the basket, while Alex Dart was unstoppable near the rim and got himself to the free-throw line well.
With BBI looking scary, Noosa struggling away from home & SW finally turning in a performance we knew they were capable of it sure sets us up an interesting second half of the season - just a shame we have the carnival round to mess things up?!

On a day like today, you can't help but think that 4 fully timed games on a weekend, in an unairconditioned stadium, at the height of summer is sheer lunacy!

Yeh absolutely! Makes we realise how lucky we are when I think of the Northern kids and what they endure every time they play T.O.N. or any other opportunity they get for weekend competition. (And its all year round up there)

It sure will be tough, but evenly tough for both teams. Effective use of Subs and timeouts will be important to keep players rested, and the water intake will be high.
I see no point in getting on here an whinging though, I want my players focusing on the task at hand, including the challenges of heat and fatigue and what is required of each of them to best handle the conditions, hopefully better than our opponents too.
And I promise you I won't be on here after the weekend complaining how the carnival cost set up was stupid because of losses either. If we do lose some games because of fatigue it will be great to learn from for classics prep. I figure it won't be any worse than a Classics in Townsville with 2 games a day for 4 days in March like I've done before anyway.
So lets hope we don't have to listen to people complaining, sport is all about challenges.
Good Luck to all

While I agree with what you are saying, my concern is for the health and welfare for the kids. Is caboolture as the host for the carnival going to provide extra ice/water for the weekend? Can we use the airconditioned rooms inbetween games? Are they going to have the canteen open for the weekend? Not expecting it just asking.
We do all need to be super prepared so the guys make it through the weekend.
Are there any teams playing practice games in the next few weeks?

I suppose the teams with the deeper benches will be in a better position, just like classics.

LUNACY 2 games in a day ? and 2 games the next ? these kids are at the peak of there lifes fitness they should run rings around playing 4 games on a weekend. Ask the kids they usually love carnival type weekends. if there are any kids that cant play 4 games in a weekend then they dont train hard enough. The only real worry is injury but hey that can happen at anytime, and all the teams have the same issues so enough of the whinging and just do what the kids do and enjoy the weekend whatever the results.
And nothing agaisnt logan but I agree they wont win a game this season, though if BQLD had the challenge games (stupid they dont) then Logan may have one a few in challenge cup.

Logan may not win a game this rep season...... fair comment to say that if they were knocked back to Ch Cup they'd win a few too.......
Ask the boys if they'd rather play in Ch Cup and win games or play in Southern Cup and lose most if not all games and I'd think you find they'd take the latter..... reason?
Most of these boys are bottom age and will be the face of Logan Premier League next year....
I think they and their coach will be looking to this year as a development year and I don't think winning is the be all/end all motivating factor.
Bearing that in mind, which is the better league to develop in..... the sword is sharpened against the hardest stone....... Playing in games where you still have to go through the processes, absorb the pressure and keep playing basketball despite the scoreline is the place to be.....
You may argue that it may set in a "losing" frame of mind but I think those boys are smarter than that and although they are always playing hard for the win this year, they understand that what they do this year, and what they learn from the challenges of this year will only make them sharper for the following season.
If I know their coach and I do..... he sees everything in this light and is using this year to prepare these boys for the following season.... a broader perspective. These boys should take this year and the lessons from it in stride and come back harder next year.....
I understand that some people are just simply stating facts when they make comment on this forum about the Logan boys.... I can't help but feel though that some people are using it to have a "niggle"..... if so then try to restrain yourselves. It's not always about the win. It's how we play the game, it's how we conduct ourselves on & off the court. It's how hard we apply ourselves in training. It's how we handle the pressure and adversity and then take that lesson to our lives in general.

It's interesting that Basketball Victoria have a climate policy for temperatures over 30; extra time outs, reduced quarters but you think kids don't train hard enough if they can't play 4 games in a weekend of extreme temperatures! Yes it's QLD, but occupational health and safety issues should not be ignored.

Yes. Basketbll should be banned anywhere north of the Qld border, mexico, Spain, Portugal, Argentina Egypt Argentina Greece and in fact anywhere that sits between the tropics of Cancer and Capricorn. Only then can everybody be assured they are safe and healthy in their occupational...(??!!)

I agree, We have become a bunch of sooks! Kids will play two games a day for as long as coaches will let them, this continual whinging about OH&S is typical of too many women being involved in running things. It is not about how good we look, but winning IS important.

Have you ever worked hard enough on the court to colapse with heat exhaustion?
I only hope that everyone comes off the court healthy and happy(win or lose). It is kids sport after all, isn't it?

Yes. A number of times. And it was always during the winter months when serious ball was played.
Proper preparation, correct hydration and astute rotations and everyones duty of care is covered. Up to the individual player how well they compete after that.

You are saying this on an U18 discussion. These guys are barely kids. I would understand if you would write this on an U12 or U14 discussion but players in U18's basketball are more than happy to play 2 games a day and winning is important at this level of basketball

All kids are happy to play 2 games a day, regardless of age and most men/women too. Most of these kids are only 15 by the way, that still makes them kids..... true? AS the logan person said previously, they get alot more out of basketball than winning games. Otherwise why would they play?
But you are 100% right. Preparation is the key, not just in training but the eve of the game days aswell.
Any predictions for the weekend
Any predictions for the weekend
Caveat: The only teams I have any idea of are Redlands, SWM and Logan, and then only in a really limited sense.
If Redlands can hit quickly and repeatedly and not dick around too much with the ball reversing it waiting for something to happen they will be a handful, esp for Noosa. This will bring their inside-out game to the fore. Get Astin cranky early, but not too cranky that he wants to kill the first person he sees and he will be very useful if left open or on the drive with his size. Farley seems to be in a good place mentally and will get his regardless of how the game flows, he is playing well at the moment from what I have seen. Dylan comfortable at the point, needs to amp it up defensively for them to get scores in transition though. A lot may hinge on how players like Dart react to the conditions and the week they have had leading up to Carnival. Don't discount Whelan, so long as he is looking to score, not just drive and kick. A tough draw meeting Noosa and BBI on the one day, but that has already been discussed at length.
SWM and Logan are somewhat depleted talent-wise, compared to when my team met them in Grading and preseason, but either could be a threat esp. early in the weekend. Logan vs Caboolture might be a tasty one, but I would expect Bris Silver to be out of their reach. If the bigs from Logan can keep Donaldson from Caboollture from scoring too many and their guards are awake and aggressive then Logan might have a crack. Andrews from Logan looked good when we played them in a trial over the recent break, so hope for Logan's sake his positivity and energy are contagious.
The 7pm SWM vs Gold Coast game should be a cracker with both teams on the same number of wins and I daresay pride at stake. Going by stats alone, Conradie and Fonua look to be key for Gold Coast to get the W. Fane is averaging double figures for SWM so might have a say in how proceedings end up.
There you go B, good enough start for you?

Absolutely fantastic game. Redlands out of the blocks early to a 10-1 lead. Tight D frustrated bbi who only stayed on touch from the 3 point line and the free throw line. Bbi threw a solid run together in the fourth to snatch the lead but Redlands team fought back to send the game to OT.
OT saw Redlands dominate all over the floor to come away with a 10 point win.

any game that goes into over time IS a great game. very scrappy by both sides. shooting %?
BBI had it won in the 4th to see the coach manage a lose through rotating a winning side off the floor with 5 minutes to go. great effort Red Lands,

Don't get me wrong we lost, but that's what it was we destroyed ourselves and noosa had a great shooting percentage. That's what wins you games.
BBI was a defensive game, reds and bbi defence prevented both teams from playing their natural games in offence. Was great to watch on my opinion.
We will have to forget about the noosa game I think if we are any chance of beating caboolture or toowoomba tomorrow.
Any other game reports out there?

Noosa's game has changed dramatically since the start of the season.
At the start they had 2 "goto" players, no. 4 and 11. and they just carried the team
to their victory's. however now the whole team has developed and are contributing signifacantly,
the team is getting thier big guys into action, and it seems like the rest of the team is getting
that much needed confidence to score. but number 4 is still leading the team, but i guess its taking a bit of the load off him, however it seems that no.11 has dropped the ball since i last saw him play, his shooting percentage is significantly lower. but who am i to say, im just an outsider lookin in.:)

Noone will beat noosa with that much confidence. After talking to their coach it is the boys team and she is the facilitator of that unit. Every single player has confidence on each other ( bigs and guards) and they pull the trigger believing that the shot is going in. Faith and belief added with skill is the sign of a championship team. Some people call it arogance, overconfidence etc, that isn't. These boys at the moment. Very impressive team, coach and game!! BBI will have to fight hard to win their return match. A fresh caboolture gave noosa a run for 30 mins on Sunday night, but class saw noosa get over the line for the win.
YEAH THUNDER!!!!!!!! You got your win!!!! Awesome game guys!!!! Very happy for you All

BBI will have to fight, especially if their coach looses the game for them like he did the other day against a very good determined Redlands.Great overtime boys you deserved the win.But I don't think this coach knows the talent in his team, those bottom ages have been together for a long time.

Yes well done to Logan, I was one who said they wouldn't win a game all year and the proved me wrong so well done
Yes SWM is a bit strange when you saw they have 11 in their second squad, and from thier results in challenge cup they would probably be doing pretty good in Southern cup? So why has the southern cup squad got on 7 ??? who knows
Feel free to talk to me about the subs i made in the Redlands game if its such a concern. I am happy to hear them.
We shouldn't have been in that position to begin with, it tooks us 3 quarters just to get the lead. We played woefully, couldnt make a shot (incl layups), and we didnt play any real defence. If you think my subs were the game breaker then blame me all you want because at the end of the day we deserved to be beaten.
That said i was coaching for a weekend tournament, with 2 starters unavaiable. It was great practise for classics where the bench need to get involved even in close games. With 3 out of the 5 bench players being bottom agers (who are talented) and this team about development i have no qualms about playing them in tight games. It wasnt a State final, hell it wasnt even a Southern Cup final so whilst i am also dissapointed we dropped a game its not the end of the world and hopefully those boys learnt something.
We look forward to the rest of the season, it will be as challenging for us as everyone else.

Games were post poned due to water on the court. Round will be replayed as soon as practical.
I think we will see the Reds win by 15 and BBI to win by around 20, depends on how the teams pull up after a Sat night game.

Cheers Richo.
Would have to agree after watching the game. BBI played woeful, and with 2 starters out and two of there top scorers not being able to buy a shot, an overtime loss is actually a fairly good outcome.
Also who is the BBI starting 5? I always see it change.

The Caboolture vs Redlands game should be a good one, Last time they played each other Red's took the game out by 17? but was very poorly refereed. I think if Matt Donaldson from Caboolture can keep playing like he has and Hayden Burrows also contributing like he was on the weekend, then they could come out with the win. But they would really have to work hard and be able to play all 4 quarters. Redlands are a very tough team beating Brisbane by 7? on the weekend. They have been playing some serious ball as of late.
Was not expecting the blowout in the Red's vs Noosa game though.

That would be 27 (Suns) and 9 (BBI), however we did not expect the blowout against Noosa iether. No excuses there, just a terrible game all round from Redlands 7 players ( 6 mid way through the 2nd), thats 72 points Noosa stacked on us in 2 games........... I hope they win the comp if we dont, make me feel a little bit better, lol.
But seriously, Redlands have GC this weekend and GC will be hungry for a win to get them back on track in chasing down a finals spot, very tough game ahead I think. GC have alot of fire power (hieght) in the team and when they are all on song they are going to be hard to stop. Game at Carrara, someone told me the Blaze was playing there on Sat? Maybe a SC opener for the Blaze? LOL.
SW will get over the top of Toowoomba if No 13 has a bad day for the M/neers.
Noosa to demolish Logan ( prob not as much as our spanking).
BBI to toy with Caboolture but get the win in the 4th by 20+
Thought on this round?

I think Twmba will beat SW, but it will be a nail biter.
Noosa should beat logan 30 +
I think if GC play hard enough they have a chance of beating Red's but have to go with Redlands by 15 +
If Caboolture can overcome the problem of only being able to play half a game then they will do well against BBI but BBI too strong should beat Suns by 15 +
what are everyones thoughts for the standings at the end of the season?

End of season standing
Noosa
BBI Silver
Redlands
Toowoomba
GC
Caboolture
SW
Logan
It is nearly set to finish this way with 4 rounds to go.
Final to be Noosa V BBI / Redlands can make it if they play their best game with fully fit players and if they play BBI in Semi.

So Redlands beat BBI without 2 of BBI's starters, BBI beat Noosa convincingly at Noosa and all of a sudden Noosa are the team to beat and Redlands can make the final if they play BBI in semi. Counting your chickens before they hatch???????????????

Read it again mate.

In regards to BBI, with 2 starters missing or not, I still believe they are beatable. Maybe not by redlands, but Noosa will give it a red hot go I am sure. They also have to play SW, Toowoomba, Caboolture and Redlands before the season finishs, anything can go wrong with those games. Noosa have GC, Logan and SW along with BBI. Who has the harder run home?
Any thing is possible, yeah?
Do your best with this one, mate!

Coach B has changed his mind many times about who is the team to beat etc etc. Maybe he is just throwing everyone off the real plan that redlands will be the team to beat?? hahaha. bold tactic.
I think BBI will play either toowoomba or GC in 1st vs 4th. And Noosa vs Redlands in 2nd vs 3rd.

And to think we all thought the world was ending when bbi dropped a game to Redlands. All of a sudden they were no longer the team to beat
now noosa drop one to a team that has struggled all season after everyone saying they were now unbeatable
then the reds who think they are top 4 with a chance to knock bbi out drop one to gc
what a weekend in sport - just shows it's anyone comp

Yeah.... and to think they lost to Logan's #2 team.... Imagine though if these teams played in the real Premier League instead of just the southern cup which was designed for the #2 teams in all the associations..... wow...... Poor old Noosa

Thats a bit uncalled for, SC is its own comp, it cannot be compared to PL. Teams are graded for a reason and this is where they play. So dont devalue the competition because of that. I am not sure of Noosa's ages, but if they are prodominately bottom age as most of the teams are in SC then maybe next year you will be eating your words?
At 9 and 2 for the season Noosa are still sitting alright as are BBI, drop a game at this stage is probably normal. I would be more concerned in looking at what Logan is doing right atm. They have nothing to lose and are playing freely and without expectation, its a great mind set to be in. My only concern is that with an overtime score of 74 Noosa's usual offences werent quite up to thier usual standard.
Any word on the SW v Tba game?

Only two bottom age players Coach B.
But I agree with you, it's only one game, and who's to say Logan hasn't improved or that Noosa didn't simply have an off night, it happens.

What's uncalled for is the constant veiled put downs that Logan are bottom of the table and are crap. I agree that SC is a quality competition but it doesn't need others getting on and running other teams down or getting on saying this team is gunna beat that team by this much etc. If you wanna crap on then have a look at yourselves and know there are 8 teams in Premier League above you. As for your predictions they mean jack s**t because anyone can beat anyone..... even bottom of table v top.

OK, first I do not ever put teams down, not Logan, noone. I was one of the loudest cheerers for Logan in the carnival round win. If you dont want the support let us know?
As for my predictions I will keep doing it, if there are 'upsets' (8th beat 1st)good for those teams. It makes our comp stronger in the long run. I hope Logan shake it up for the rest of the season......
As for PL, well we all know where we are in the pecking order, I know that as do all the boys. But I am sure they are going to be there come next year as Redlands are 80% bottom age, and will regroup after this season and give PL a red hot go.
:) enjoy the rest of the season, Cheers:)

Do you look at other posts other than your own? Who said my accusations were aimed at you. If you took time to read the whole thread you will see the posts I'm talking about. Keep on with the predictions but whether you do or not does not make the teams play worse/better. It just makes you and whoever else does it look stupid. I'd rather see intelligent reflection on the round just gone. The PL comment is again not aimed at you but who I suspect is making these small asides. They need to pull their head in because again, they weren't good enough as their associations PL team to make it to PL and they don't need to slag off at Logan's SC team because they are at the bottom of the table.
How about you enjoy the rest of the season without the holier-than-thou attitude :)

I will happily put my hand up and say I am one who said Logan wouldnt win a game this season, I have no issue with Logan or any other team, but purely based on results and seeing them play a few times i like many others didnt feel there results showed any promise of a win thats just a fact. But I was also happy like others to congratulate them when they did win against the GC and now an even bigger pat for beating Noosa. But just because someone says they will lose doesnt make that person a bad person or a bagger of a team, people make predictions based on history thats all. And its always nice to see a team change there own history by having a few wins, makes the predictors think a little more.

2 issues here. 1. Weekly predictions. Don't really give too much of a crap other than i love teams make you all look like idiots. Logan proved anyone can win on the day. You need to dig a little deeper than results to make predictions. But carry on with them. I think you look stupid and will continue to point it out. 2. Some little grub puts their head up every now and then with crappy little remarks. That is the little s**t that needs to pull their head in. Their team didn't make pl and they get joy from sinking the boot into logans second team for being bottom of ladder. I have an inkling who it is and will out them if they continue. We can all stand and point the finger then and have a laugh at how good your pl team is doing in sc.

Personally there is nothing wrong with predicting games, and it can only be done based on past results unless u are a Pyscic. Its all a bit of fun and you only make yourself look like an idiot by calling everyone else an idiot. It is sad your team gets bagged, but hey it happens when your team is struggling. take it on the chin and if they keep improving keep pointing it out but no need to call people idiots for predicting a game. Logan did well betting Noosa and u deserve to be happy but no one i doubt even you would have predicted that.
Thankyou to the previous posters for your kind words and support. :)
Round 12..........
GC V Suns - I see GC up here by 10+ ( home court advantage)
Toowoomba V Logan - long trip up the hill here, I was in Toowoomba on the weekend and it is a hard road trip for any team. But I see Teeba getting the win by 5
Redlands V SW Metro - tough game, home court may be the difference. 1st home game for Redlands in 3 months (is it a home court anymore).
BBI Silver V Noosa - my heart says Noosa all the way, but I will prob be proven wrong on this one. Noosa in OT by 1.
Any other thoughts???????? :)

Good predictions Coach B :)
but would have to disagree with 2, GC vs Suns Suns have beaten this team twice but as you said home court advantage and GC have been playing some good basketball, but think suns will still get this one.
and BBI vs Noosa, BBI have shown they can beat these guys, not easily, but by 20 points so i would go with BBI.

Nothing against BBI at all, just live in hope that the team that has put 70 odd points on us this year comes out on top of the pile. Probably make me feel a little bit better about our disgusting games we played against them.
If the result go opposite to my predictions then Redlands are in trouble of dropping out of the top 4. So big games for all teams this weekend.... must wins for every game I think.
GL to all playing.

i think BBI's depth is the real difference. watched the first game.BBI's defence just ground them down, no chance for a rest. you can have an off day shooting but defence is usually pretty steady.
Reds down by 1 to SW, awesome display of basketball from both teams.
Particularly from SW 2 new recruits, bringing SW back into the game 3 times after Reds took 10+ leads.
Reds just couldnt bury Sw in the end. It was one of the toughest games I have seen in a very long time, I think there was only 20 or so fouls in the whole game (Even tho both teams deserved more).
SW coming home strong, Redlands drop 2 valuable games in 2 weeks!
Is there a change in the wind on the ladder????
Helllz Yeah!

Cracker of a game. BBI were down by 15 in the firs half then brought the game back in the third with some excellent guard play. 11 of Noosa hit the go ahead bucket with less than a second remaining.

Predictions for this week
Noosa v SW - Noosa ( hopefully) SW stronger with new players but Noosa to back up last weeks win by 10.
Logan v Suns - well going on current form you would say Logan, but Suns to put in a big effort for a close win. Suns 5+
Redlands v BBI Silver - no win here for the Reds (hehehe)
Toowoomba v Gold Coast - If tba have their 4 man back I would say them, but GC in good form, probs by 6-10pts
Make up games -
BBI v SW @ Redlands, BBI too strong across the court for SW, but will depend on them having a full team (missing some players over carnival round in the morning/early games)
Suns v Redlands @ Morayfield, Reds to have their first win in 3 weeks by 10+. Both teams to be tired from the evening game, dont think there will be a very high score. Team who hits 80pts first will definately win.

Gentlemen.. please don't lose sight of what BQJBC is all about - it's about the kids playing this wonderful game of basketball and to give them the opportunity to play at a higher level than they would otherwise be exposed to at their clubs. We must not get carried away with our own importance as coaches and boys to those of you who make comments just to get a rise out of the adults, you should be concentrating on the job at hand - playing basketball. Finals are just around the corner. W :-)

Whats everyone elses thoughts? :)
SW over Noosa
Suns all the way
BBI over Reds
GC but w/out Kian that could be struggle
Makeups:
BBI just cause that what is expected, but could be surprise result
Reds over Suns

Noosa vs SW - you would say Noosa definitely, there going to be too strong for SW. Noosa 20+
Logan vs Suns - Even though you would say Logan is on a roll, i would still have to stay with the Suns, if the Suns can really switch on they can take this game easy. Suns 10+
Red's vs BBI - If Red's can play as hard as they did at the carnival round game against BBI, then they might have a chance, but i would still have to go with BBI 15+
Tba vs GC - GC are playing some really good basketball, and if they keep this up they will win this game. GC 5+
Make up-
BBI vs SW - Would most probably say BBI will take this game out by at least 15+
Suns vs Red's - This could be a close and intense game or it could be really scrappy and as you said coach b the boys will probably be tired. But if Suns push hard they can keep it to Reds 6-10 +

Was a really good game, nail biter the whole way through, could of gone either way logan just ended up wanting it more in the end. Could of sent it to OT but think it was Donaldson who missed the three. But truly was a great game!! ref's looked like they weren't seeing many fouls non-calls both ways. But we thank the refs for coming out and refereeing the game for us because its all about the kids :)
Reds down by 15 I think it was, 3 pt game early in the 4th qtr. Nick Dickenson the difference between the 2 teams. Great game by both teams with Defence featuring from both sides. Well done lads :)

Reds over Suns by 2. Only time Redlands were up on the score board, at the end. Special mention to a few of the Reds benchies for stepping up and taking the game on for the win. Very scrappy from Redlands. Not taking anything away from Caboolture though, it was a tough battle.

3 out of 4 correct though margins could be a bit off. Logan without a win in 09 now have 4 wins in succession claiming scalps of 1st and 3rd placed teams away from home. I'm not sure why everyone continues to tip against them although i would expect coach B is sticking to his own guys here. Can I get some money on?

Hope you never put that bet on!
Redlands had the game won in the first five minutes hitting their first 5 or 6 shots & getting the job done defensively and causing Logan to drop their heads early.
Extensive rotation of the Redlands bench did little to stem the flow as Logan coughed up possession far too much and failed to take advantage of the few mismatches they were presented with.
Redlands too strong across the court, their bigs did a superb job - out rebounding and out muscling the Logan boys, while the guards cut the Logan defense apart scoring at will, both inside and outside.
Logan seemed to shoot well from outside (with their numerous threes keeping the score line relatively respectable), but were unable to penetrate the strong Redlands defense.

From what I've seen this season, Brisbane are a shoe in & Redlands should be able to beat Noosa. I realise that Noosa have smashed Redlands on both previous encounters, but Redlands have the players to do it.
Then it's the final - BBI & Redlands both have beaten each other, BBI is the obvious choice, though I think it's too close to call.

Doesn't help that Jack Hunt (Noosa's PG and quite possibly the best player) injured himself. Not to take anything away from GC, a win's a win regardless of the circumstances.

Coach B, with that statement no wonder you are hammerd on here!! Where did I bag any player from noosa?? I was actually saying that i reckon noosa has helped develope one of the best u 18 juniors in the south this year. MDore latched on to Jillerate when he was already a good player developed by NOOSA.
I just said that I thought Cam who has made 2 state teams is a better noosa junior than Riley who never made any.

But you got to love how I can defend someone or some club and you still wanna have a shot...... LOL :)
As for my team, there is nothing to worry about, we reached the semis with a depleteated team, not fielding more than 8 players all season, we have achieved our first goal, finals! What ever happens this week we have gone as far as we can and I am happy with each and every player. We want to play in the GF like the 3 other teams and will then refocus and train up for classics. What do I have to worry about. Life is good by the Bay :)

ok everyone settle down.
I know that neither cam or ryley would be posting these comments and probably just some of their fans or team mates or people trying to stir crap.
Both boys are expectional team players and care little about individual accolades, nor our opinions on here about who is better. As their former noosa coach i wish them the best of luck as they progress into the senior ranks.
Lets keep this forum to u18b southern cup (of which neither player currently plays in)

Back to this weeks Semis :)
BBI v GC @ 4.30pm - BBI in a tough game +5. After looking at the stats from last week game v Tba, a really solid effort from the whole team with 4/5 in double figures. Will be too strong across the court for Gold Coast
home court will give them a few extra point as well. Gold Coast are playing well at the moment coming off a big win over Noosa will have some momentum.
Noosa v Redlands @ 4.30pm - Redlands +3. Noosa great team have put on 70+ points in 2 games against Redlands this year, WONT happen again:) Will be tough for both teams, but Defence will be the factor determining the outcome of this semi. I would expect a low score.
Good luck to all the boys playing this weekend, its been a great season so far and we have so much to look forward to at classics with Logan hitting some form and SW with a great points % for a losing season. Cabolture will put the wind up a few teams as well. And Toowoomba will be back to full strength by then as well. Add in the northern teams and we have a cracker of a tournament :)

Coach B,
Interesting analysis. Noosa are inconsistant which makes me think had they played BBI or an XFactor team like Logan or SW, i dont think redlands predicatable basketball really bother s noosa (with or without injured players)
Then looking at BBI I think they would have been more concerned about facing your boys as when i look at previous results they beat GC by over 30+pts. yet have scrapped home against redlands.
Then i look at BBIs latest game against Tbah and without 2 starters they got a big win, with shared points as you mentioned
That said finals are finals and it comes down to who wants it more.
Good luck to all teams

about 4 of their games, but every time i watch them they show great improvement.
Yesterdays game against redlands was an amazing spectacle. if my information is correct their starting point guard/captain was out due to injury, but the team really stepped up to the plate. the players that really stood out to me where: #11,#9 and #8. Can someone tell me more about number 11 and 8??
Great work boys, and all the best for the grand final.

I'll agree with the poster above. the Redlands v Noosa game was an entertaining affair. Redlands had the lead at quarter time thanks to the lockdown defense from the Redlands guards and an impressive display inside from Alex Dart, but Noosa fought back in the second to claim a slight advantage.
Noosa blew the game wide open in the third, with successive threes from Thomas Wade and penetration from Jason Blamey & Jacob Kleinberg. Redlands turned the ball over on numerous occasions, allowing the Noosa team to turn the tide of the game.
The lead ballooned to sixteen & Redlands looked out of the game, but solid work from Nathan Farley & some clutch shooting from Dylan Desmarchelier late into the fourth bought Redlands to within 5.
However, as had been the case throughout the game, key turnovers from some of the Redlands players left the door open for Noosa who finished the game well.
I would have thought that Redlands would trouble BBI more in the final, as they have managed to beat them once (albeit without a key player) and took them down to the wire in the return match, however Noosa's solid team play should see them stretch BBI all the way.
All in all, after watching most of the teams play this season, I have been thoroughly impressed by the level of basketball in Southern Cup this year. And if the rumors are true, and BBI Silver are playing in Division 1 in the classics I am sure they will surprise a lot of teams - and I wouldn't be at all surprised to see Redlands and Noosa battle it out in the finals for Division 2.

BBI by 15+ as I dont think Noosa without Jack can do the job. All credit to Noosa for the win on Saturday against Redlands, they took the good shots and played a controlled game. Redlands lost this game (far too many turnovers and poor shot selection), Noosa didnt go out and win it.
I also think it will be a great classics but I think we will need to be aware of both SW and GC as they have shown some great form of late.

Its too tight to call...
Grading - Noosa win by 2pts in OT
1st Match - BBI win by 30+pts at Noosa
2nd Match - Noosa win by 2pts with a 1.9sec buzzer beater at BBI
I hardly think those 2 wins to Noosa give them bragging rights. Both these teams seem to love to play each other and its only fitting that its 1 v 2 in the finals considering they have dominated most of the year.

Do we have confirmation that they are in Div1?
Yes we are in Div 1 for classics.
We nominated for wild card challenge but due to not enough central teams nominating for Div 1 we were automatically accepted with no PL teams dropping down.
We nominated for Div 1 to further develop our boys, we want to play against the best competition we are able to.
I would rather see our boys continue to grow as individuals and a team by playing the best in thier age group than chase a Div 2 Trophy. The experience that our 7 bottom agers will be exposed to will put them in great stead for next year and our 4 top age boys want to play against their peers.
I also dont think we will get 'dominated'. Sure we will lose games but our goal will be to be competitive for 40min... Plus there is always upsets at classics (just us Logan who last year were ranked 2 and got knocked over by runaway bay who played SC all year)
Finally at the end of the day if you win Div 2 you finish 13th in the state. If you come last in Div 1 you are still 12th and have ended up with a better result.
So Coach B you dont have to worry about us at classics ;) , good luck though

LOL, You are the least of our worries Richo. I wish you guys luck in todays final. :) You guys deserve the win today but Noosa are a tough competitor which should make for an interesting final. Even still I back you for a 20+ point win today.....
As far as classics go, the field in Div 2 is so wide open and will prob come down to who has the strongest and deepest bench. So many teams in the running to take it out and we all have forgotten about our northern counterparts.
Good luck to the 4 Redlands teams in their grand finals today!!!!

They will lose by about 40+ against the top 5 teams. Will do ok against the likes of Ipswich though.

Top 5 teams in U18? There are the top 3 then daylight. Silver will be competitive against everyone bar these 3 teams. Not much has changed from 2 years ago top aged 16's, three horse race then and it will be the same this time.
Update from the stadium........ BBI up by 30 :( Makes you wonder of the lost oportunities last weekend:(

BBI got the win with a dominant first half effort. Standouts were the two guards from BBI, Brandon and Steve who were fantastic. Tom from Noosa was also good.

As coach said, they are there to "develop", if they get some or 1 win that is a bonus. Good luck to them IMO.. :) I wouldnt care if they didnt win a game, look at the 8 games they will play, top of the pile competition. Better for next year already:)

I'd be tempted to take Dylan Desmarchelier (Redlands) oven Nathan Farley & Steven Fogarty (BBI) over Brandon Holloway - it would be nice to take a couple of 'pass-first' guards (actual point guards) that could actually run some plays and distribute the ball, otherwise you have too many bigs who will never see the ball...

I would not have Steven over Brandon, Brandon is a great all round player and can shoot very well. Not saying Steve isn't, i think Steve is also a great player but from my point of view i would have Brandon over him.

Im not sure if you have been watching the same games as me, but everytime I have seen Nathan play he is always looking for team mates. And Brandon is also very unselfish with great vision.
Just my opinion anyway

IMO, Nathan is a 3 man not a guard. I would have Dylan any day as a guard and Nathan as my 3 if I had more guards in the Redlands squad. We lost our 2 other guards so he had to play the 2. So in the "allstar SC team" he is picked out of position, IMO.

Obviously I haven't. Farley is a supreme shooter, he is one of SC's top scorers because, from what I've seen, he is on the receiving end of a lot of quality ball & usually plays in a small-forward/swingman position. He takes more shots than most & rarely looks to distribute the ball (not saying he's a ball-hog, just that is usually his role).
Both Dylan and Brandon are top quality point guards with excellent court vision and play making ability. Having said that, both boys are also capable of lighting up the scoreboards (Dylan rounding out the top 10 scorers & Brandon not too far away). On merit both these boys should be in any SC all-star/top-ten team as they are the best pure PGs in the SC & perhaps the real crunch would be between Nick Dickinson & Nathan Farley. I believe Farley would probably win out here, largely due to fact that he is the league's top scorer...
Then again, with Grant Coldstream from Toowoomba out through injury (only playing 7 games) perhaps we could slot Nick back in as he has the height/strength to play a small forward type of roll?

If I was building a team Thomas or Dart would prob be the unlucky one to miss out and I would prob bring in Craig Malone ( Redlands). Need 2 Centres In a team like this. Grant would be in for sure, sry Nick.
Man they would really give PL a red hot go. But lets face it, they are the strongest plaers of thier clubs. Dunno If they would all mesh together on the court. :)

see your getting it wrong here your picking an all star team not a basketball team
a basketball team needs 10 guys that can do different jobs and cant get them done
not ten guys who can score so stop with all the he was top in scores that doesnt matter what about the players who did it defensively you only get the ball by playing defence.

Sorry, but most of the guys listed CAN play defense. The guards listed are all excellent back-court defenders, while the bigs are more than capable of playing solid 'D'in the post.

His defence or the teams?
A defencive top 10 is crap in my eyes. Defence is a team effort. It was the whole Suns team that defended well against us in the Carnival (make) up round, and that is why it was a close game. It was team defence that won our game against BBI Silver. It was team Defence that won BBI thier championship.
One person cannot defend a whole team.
It may be better to comment on the matchups rather than the best defenders in the comp....... :)

Its also worth noting that some players understand rotations within the team defence better than others allowing the team to better defend as a unit. Some are exceptional at containing the ball carrier allowing more effective lane denial and causing shot clock problems. I disagree. Never hurts to acknowledge a players (specially young ones!) contribution at the unglamorous end.

I want to share an experience with you guys that occured this year.
We played Tba at the carnival round, won by 3 I think it was.
Our #2 manned up on the toowoombe guard. This guard hit 8 3s in the game I think it was.
We had a rain delay, when I was talking to the Tba coach, I heard this guard saying to a team mate "He has got a hand on every shot I have taken, and they are still dropping".
Did Our #2 have a good game defencively or a bad game?
You can say a bad game cause the guard 'got' the ball. Playing a 2/3 zone the 1 and 2 had alot of work to do.
I say he had a good defencive game as he was in the right spot pressuring the shooter on everyshot without fouling.
Whats your thoughts? :)

I think the coach had a bad game, if you persited with a 2-3 zone that "let' the kid hit 8 3's that is bad coaching IMO. Also pressuring a shooter by having a hand up in this instance was not good enough, the kid hit 8 threes.
However if that is where your team sets the bar defensivey, then it probably is good defence and more than likely one of the reasons you guys are playing SC.

Im not here to comment on good coaching or bad coaching as I am only the assistant. 6 verse 9 it does make it hard to play man all game long at the end of a carnival round.
I do hear what you are saying, but my question, is it good D or bad D on the individuals part?
Which leads me back to my point about the defencive top 10.

South West definitely looked like the team to beat yesterday. Most of the 'top seeds' looked strong though & notched up big wins against the lower ranked teams. Noosa & GC rarely struggled & Redlands were taken right to the line by a determined Caboolture.

BBI silver will get dominated in division 1...
Let's see you said dominated?
BBI Silver finished in 9th place at classics, thats 4 spots above the D2 winner.
They beat or finished above the number one sides from Ipswich, Northside and Southern Districts. They were copmpetitive with pretty much every team they played.

Let's see you said dominated?
BBI Silver finished in 9th place at classics, thats 4 spots above the D2 winner.
They beat or finished above the number one sides from Ipswich, Northside and Southern Districts. They were copmpetitive with pretty much every team they played.

Haha nice quote man there are always morons on here thinking teams and players cant get it done on the court obviously BBI silver did

the real indication would have been if they played all 3 of those teams and won.....

looking on BQ website they beat ipswich by over 40 and Districts by 10
The only team they didnt beat was northside as they didnt get the chance to play them.
They lost to Townsville by 4 and MDore by 19 (this was the gold and silver placed teams)
So i assume they can hold there head up high and that its a pretty accurate reflection

shame they didn't get to play northside, would be a good indication of both teams for next season PL.

Now that the season is long over all results in.

Northside lost to Districts in the 9/12 semi round, then they got beaten in the 11/12 playoff. Silver won their last 2 to finsh 9th Wizards lost their last 2 to finsh 12th, it aint rocket science mate!!
Silver were the better side in the tournament, just admit it.

fully agreed that silver were the better side in the "tournament", shame they sat in div 2 all year.....
PL teams like SD, ippy & NS played each other numerous times & results between them were not consistent.

They SAT in D2 all year? you are a moron. They played in the grading tourny at the start of the season and were not good enough to make D1. With no challenge round, they were forced to play SCC the whole season, they never SAT anywhere. They nominated for the wild card and were rewarded with D 1 status for the Classics.
Every one plays and prepares to be playing their best at Classics, they played better than these 3 teams. WOW can you not understand the concept? 9th is better than 12th!!

Truth is that there isnt really that much of a gap between the best teams in Div 2 and the bottom teams in Div 1. Bris silver proved that this year, and Runaway Bay the year before. All you Div 1 guys need to get off your high horse and accept that sth cup is a legitmate comp, because 2 years in a row a sth cup team has done well competeing in div1 at classics.

I disagree, that was the case this year as the bottom half of the D1 ladder was very poor. Generally there is a huge step between playing D1 and D2. Players who get it done in D2 rarely do the same in D1. I guess it depends how you define competitive? Competing against the best in the comp or the worst.

well they finished better than 12th in both cases and results speak for themselves. I agree there is a big gap between top of d1 and bottom of d1. But its all D1 isnt it. Based on your logic, no respect for the bottom half of the D1 ladder than, they arnt any better than the best sth cup teams.

The other part of this argument is the question of age. Bbi silver had a sprinkling of top age boys, but were predominantly a bottom age squad, they will definitely be a force in U18 PL in 10/11.
Districts will also be strong, with a dominant (though under achieving) squad of top age 16s in 09/10, but may lack the maturity and strength to go #1.
Northside presented an entirely bottom age squad, bar one (I think), in PL in 09/10, and should they be able to find a PG to match up with (or at least get close to) Chia, then they too will be a force.
While I am not saying the season is over before trials have even begun, without significant player movement BBI, Northside & Districts should top PL in 10/11, with Ipswich more than likely rounding out the top 4. There doesn't seem to be many other squads capable of challenging; Maroochydore's bottom age boys in 09/10 struggled in Challenge Cup so will probably end up in SC, South West may be a contender depending on who stays, who goes & who is coaching, Logan will more than likely end up in SC with Maroochydore, Redlands, Toowoomba & Caboolture may also struggle to make PL. That leaves Gold Coast & Runaway Bay as the only other relative sure things to make PL. But again I think we will see quite a difference between the top & bottom 4 in PL in 10/11.
So, there's a bold early prediction. No doubt there will be whingers, there will be unpredictable player movement & I will be proven wrong, but at least I had an honest crack at it;-)
While I agree with most of what you have said, I think that the last few places in PL will be determined by the draw of the grading. I believe with player movements there will be a few suprises in ommisions from PL. I see it as
BBI
NS
Ipp
GC
SW
Suns
SD
BBI2/Redlands/Logan????
I dont see Runaway bay in there unfortunately unless they have some new players. No offence intended to our friends down the coast.
SC will see the likes of RB, Tba, Noosa, SW2, NS2, GC2, Redlands2 and the ones from above that missout on PL.
Keep smiling :) and good luck to all in their trials over the next few months.
I agree with most of the comments.
I think our PG spot is looking pretty good though.
So SD are picking up some players? Assuming from Logan & BBI?
I think ippy is one team that should be well embedded in the top 3 too. They showed in 16s 2 yrs running that they have the goods.
