Tips for Men
Townsville Heat vs Caboolture Suns
Townsville to win, Egan to have his way, Cedar to beat up on Mcglynn, and give b-rad a chair in the corner he might shoot a couple from there.
Toowoomba Mountaineers vs South West Metro Pirates
SWM to win, shooting practice for SWM, but have paramedics ready as Kluck will beat up on Broom.
Ipswich Force vs Gold Coast Goannas
Ipswich to win, ask the refs why. But Gurney and Gleeson will give it a great shot!
Cairns Marlins vs Caboolture Suns
Cairns to win, Caboolture may lose a couple of players at their first food stop, Deba to have some fun in this one. Will be great rebounding practice as vale will continue to spray up shots!
Rockhampton Rockets vs Mackay Meteors
Rocky to win, thanks to Cams defection. Martin will be comfortable on court, but will cop plenty from crowd. More players to come for rocky too?
Gladstone Power vs Bundaberg Bulls
Bundy to win, Power wont have an answer for Hanson.
Brisbane Capitals vs Northside Wizards
Northside to win, Brisbane got new group and will give it their best shot. Goulding to break ankles and hoops!
Northside Wizards vs Maroochydore Clippers
Northside to win, will be fast game but Northside have younger legs this year to keep up even after playing brissie night before. Tueta to carry load for Clippers.
No QBL this weekend due to U18 Classics...
I thought you were joking until I checked myself.
So we have the opening round of the season, and then a bye week. What a circus.
i was going to laugh at the person tellin you it was a bye thinkin you would already know lucky i didnt but does anyone know why we have a state wide bye weekend for un18 classics???

2 reasons there is a small number of players in QBL sides who are playing at the classics and the main reason is that their wouldnt be enough referees to cover both the classics and QBL games. As well as a large proportion of referee evaluators will be at the classics.

Will happily take the weekend off though...
Will happily take the weekend off though...
Granted a week off is good for an old bugger such as myself. but we've had the last 30wks off before last weekend. BQ has had the U18 classics pencilled in on their schedule forever. So why in their infinite wisdom did they draft first round games last wk then have a 2 week layoff. Why not have just started the season proper next weekend?? would have given teams an opportunity to fit in one or two last preseason tune up games. As we all know with the HSH that took a weekend off a lot of teams preparation. Granted the south had a few more preseason scrimmages due to proximity but that's neither here nor there. I like playing and not sitting around so that's my gripe
I agree. Either:
1. Start the season after the U18 Classics, or;
2. Play a split round, so the referee stocks are not as relied upon. For promotion of the league, there really ought to be QBL games played at the host venue of the Classics during the running of the tourney.

Unfortunately you guys are both correct. The question has to be asked, what are the powers to be at BQ thinking when they come up with senarios like this? When simple effective solutions to the probblem are aired on this message board, yet full time PAID staff serve up this tripe, you gotta wonder?
Sadly this is another example of basketball BQ style.

Isnt really time to run QBL at the classics. 7 courts with the first time slot at 8am and the last at 6:30pm after that long a day noone would want to hang around for a QBL game

Seen it happen many times without problem (and with sizeable crowds) before we started having this dastardly bye! Townsville used to have it, likewise Spartans/Brisbane.

Don't expect BQ to take anything onboard they can not even update the ladders

your kidding right maybe if your stadium volunteers are all the same people this would be a problem but seeing as it would be a weekend surely you would be able to find more for this one special occassion...
as a junior rep coach i know how hard it is to keep kids occupied without expending too much energy, watching QBL would be perfect cos they have to sit down (i had a team of kids with ADHD so sitting down is rare) an they might actually learn something or at the very least be inspired to train or play harder to aspire to the next level..
i'm with Pip as an old bloke it's nice to have a weekend off but one game then state wide bye just seems kind of ridiculous although rocky would be happy it saved them a few thousand not having to bring in their boys till last weekend..
2008 16 boys classics at brisbane, spartens gave out free tickets to all teams. It did not work with our scedule as we had a game that night but we would have loved it and I know some teams did go.
The only other problem was some of the coaches I think were coaching like Leonard King - Mackay qbl and 18s and some qbl players even.
Back to last round for a moment - how did South West go with figures for their games at lunch on the Saturday?
Home vs Away
Townsville Heat vs Caboolture Suns
Toowoomba Mountaineers vs South West Metro Pirates

Well after such a hectic start of the season it was nice to have a long weekend break, I’m sure we can all agree we deserved it well Rocky didn’t but noone likes them anyway but it’s not their fault it’s just that noone likes rich ppl unless they give you stuff .. moving on like most of the other old vets I enjoyed sitting at home on veranda with a beer and/or having a social life on Saturday night and waking up on Sunday/Monday morning being able to get out of bed and walk without a limp but enough rambling lets get to the goodness…
we have some MASSIVE match ups this weekend with 1st place playing 2nd place a total of 4 times this round and a HUGE top of the table Local Derby clash down south so lets see what the numbers say about Rd 2 games…
Suns @ Heat
Big number that comes to mind for this game is 5 that’s how many fouls B-rad got last week against weaker opposition a bigger number is 27 that’s how many times Thalo swore at his teammates when they didn’t pass him the ball in the 2nd qtr now if both of these numbers continue this round you would expect the Mcglynns to beat up Cedar on the court an then Thalo in the dressing room and B-rad to get drunk with his boys on $2:50 basics at the Mad Cow.. $375 on Heat
Heat 1.5:1 Suns 13:1
Pirates @ the Mountain
0 and 0 means a lot in this game it’s how many Imports Neers have and a possibility of how many games they will win this season I hope it isn’t so because everyone should get at least 1 or 2 but getting beaten by Ippy by 20 at home is not a good sign.. put the 0 an 0 together and put a 1 on front to get Pirates score minus 30 to get Neers.. $234 on SW
SW 1.2:1 Neers 15:1
GC @ Ippy
27 that’s the number of drunk bogans at the bar this game, 10 of which will be loud, 3 of which have played ball before and 5 of which will throw things at GC dressing room should they win and that’s why we love winning there so much.. 2 be honest I’m not to sure who to go with here, the lizards kept it respectful against SW who I thought would of won by more and Ippy won convincingly against neers which means little.. so I’m going to pick the number 5 an say that’s how much Ippy will win by purely because drunk bogans at home games are what pays for most of the CQ teams budget especially Rocky… $12 on Ippy
Ippy 2:1 GC 4:1
Suns @ Fishtank
9 that’s the number of Black guys in this squad 14 that’s the number of guys that talk like they are black on this squad which is good I’m all about reconciliation of white an black ppl just not with ugly chicks.. 7 that’s the number of Dunks Deba will get in this game, with b-rad having at least 23 drinks the night before this could be a long weekend without the public holiday for the Suns.. $323 on Big fish
Cairns 2:1 Suns 12:1
Mets @ Rocky
1 & 2 are the ranking of the two big men in the league that Rocky have playing for them for next 3 weeks an maybe after that when Mcdade comes in, 1425 is the number of times Rhys is going to get bagged… (in the warm up) but he’s a such a nice guy I don’t know what they are goin on about… 4 is the number of times Tim will puff his chest up like a toad fish and run in trying to act tough an protect Rhys or anyone else that gets bumped an doesn’t like it.. I think there’s an ancient Tibetan myth about emergence of the Yeti and his like sized smooth skin brother to combine to become the strongest force known to QBL Mankind so combine that with the tantrums thrown by Mackay players when the Refs give in to the most drunk bogan filled crowd in the L an don’t give them any calls will cause some sort of seismic plate movement somewhere in the world an we’ll have another massive disaster somewhere.. p.s. no Fitzy due to broken hand/arm for this game so $73 on Rocky
Rocky 2:1 Mets 5:1
Bumdy @ THE POWERHOUSE
This is a game of opposite numbers of 3 an 7… in their top 10 Bulls have 3 guys that can play guard an 7 guys that can play big where as Power are on the opposite end of the spectrum… fortunately for us we also have an average BMI between 20-23 where as I’m guessing by the looks of the boys 2 weeks ago the Bulls are looking at a slightly higher average BMI then the norm… should be a good game the Local fans will be will be pumped for this one and I gota good feeling my boys will be singin the song in the centre of court this Satnite $2789 on Power
Power 2:1 Bundy 3:1
Wiz @ Cap
As long as the Wiz don’t have too many African players on their team connected with the Pawes program they should be ok for this game as I have heard on the grapevine that other teams connected with these Pawes guys aren’t allowed to play at Auchenflower…….. hahaha anyway MASSIVE top of the table clash for this local derby with both teams looking to stay on top I think the difference will be 6 that’s how many ankles Bubbles will break on the way to a 30+ game and a 2nd win for the Wiz… $25 on Wiz
Wiz 2:1 Caps 5:1
Clips @ Wiz
275 is the average speed this game will be played in klms/hr, Wiz could be sole no.1 team in the L for the 1st time this season after this game.. I heard that Clips got the ball into the key 3 times in 1 qtr last week and 2 of those were fast breaks unless they are on fire this is going to have to change for them to win games… $32 on Wiz
Wiz 2:1 Clips 7:1
To all my loyal gambling addicts don’t bother taking a punt this week instead take that ludicrous amount of money you bet with me every week an buy something nice for your Mum or someone else’s mum that your banging or want to… Happy Mothers day to those mum’s that read this an to the mum’s of those who read..

Congratulations to the Clippers young brigade winning the under 18 state title again. The third win in the last 5 seasons. Hope to see a couple more youngsters hit the court this year

More than relevant. The Clippers are made up of players from these teams, hence the youngest team in the league

how many un18's actually play/suit up or are they playing now because you are still waiting for all your college boys to come back?
not being critical i only ask because the team we played on Australia day wouldn't of had too many un18s from what i can remember but i was drunk so that doesn't mean much..

Under 18's played the Aus day tourney as a team to prep for Classics
The 18's Clippers and Dleague all run and train as one squad and players play up and down during the season depending on form availibility etc. It is also year 12 so we are very flexible with their availibility I expect 5 boys from this years team to suit up at some stage. When the others get back we will have seven more who have recently come through the u 18 program

Anyone know what happened to live stats..could only watch 3 of the 7 games ???????
Think it may have been a Livestats problem - Auchy were running theirs, but the link ceased to work halfway through the mens.
Anyway at the shack tonight, Wiz got the double over local rivals Brisbane.
It was all Brisbane in the first half of the women's game, thanks largely to Rachel Maenpaa. Turnover city and poor shots by the Wiz saw them down 15-ish at one stage. Not sure what was said amongst both camps at the halftime break, but completely different game after that, with the Wiz steaming home for a suprisingly comfortable victory. New recruit Jenna O'Hea clocked up a good tally during the run, and defensive guru Julia Tan showed her 11 steals were no fluke in week 1 after coming up with a numbr of key defensive stops.
The men's game was well-contested for the most part, with the result only sealed with 5 minutes to go. Bubbles went nuts and had 41 with 3 minutes to go in an offensive spectacle (not sure what he finished with). He was made to earn every point though with Kurt Thompson on him. SD and JD both in double figures as well. Jay Curtis came off the Caps bench but played most of the game. Dominated the ball, but scored at a good clip inside (had 30+ at least, didn't appear to favour outside shots). Kurt Thompson was decent and played well showing off some nifty moves to the bucket and Tim Smith shot well from outside.
Wizards to welcome Trigger's replacement next week.
Scheibs love your work on the mic - but if you're ever left with the music again and play Justin Bieber you may have a riot on your hands!

The Gold Coast Goannas walked away from Ipswich Basketball Stadium with a hard fought 90 - 80 win against the Ipswich Force but it required five minutes of extra time.
The force had a three point lead 75 – 72 with only nine seconds remaining in regulation when new recruit Jason Aucoin pass the ball the Shaun Gleeson to ran down the sideline and launched a deep three-pointer.
It never looked in doubt and splashed in the bottom of the net with 1.6 seconds on the clock. Force head coach Chris Clarkson called a time out, which advanced the ball to half way for the inbound.
The pass was thrown to the rim in the hope of an ally-oop finish but youngster Jaydan Tom swatted the ball away to end the game 75 each.
The experience of Jason Aucoin shone in overtime as he nailed the first 4 points of overtime and the Goannas never looked back to take the 10 point road win.
It was a complete team effort from the Goannas with all players who hit the floor making the score sheet. Shaun Gleeson shone with 21 points and 6 assists and young gun Jaydan Tom added 18 points and 16 rebounds.
Notable contributions also came from Jason Aucoin with 16 points, David Gurney chimed in with 14 points and 10 rebounds and Shaun Tilby’s 11 points and 4 steals simply oozed class.
“It was a great team effort,” Goannas head coach Mick Conlon said.
“Ipswich are a quality team and they weren’t going to lay down. They had a sizeable lead midway through the second, but we hung in there and I’m extremely pleased with the boys,” he concluded.
For the Force, Luke Cann led with 19 points and import Zarryon Fereti added 15 points and 5 assists.
In the earlier game, the Gold Coast Gliders let another slip away after a narrow five-point loss to the Ipswich Force 48 – 43.
In a physical encounter that saw Melissa Gurney surfer a suspected broken wrist and Donna Catley splitting her lip, the Gliders just couldn’t convert from the free throw line shooting at 50% from the stripe, which proved costly in the end.
Next Sunday 16 May, the Gliders and Goannas will finally return to the Gold Coast for their first home game of the season back at The Southport School (TSS) against the Toowoomba Mountaineers.
Adult tickets are just $7 and children 17 years and under being admitted free upon presentation of their school identification.
The Gliders tip off at midday with the Goannas scheduled to tip off at 2pm.
In a special presentation, Luke Boon, the world’s #1 skipper will be performing his World Championship routine during the Goannas half-time break.

Must have heard you! he finished with 2/18 in field. But northside still managed 20pts win rotating their bench too.
I forgot to mention Bubbles' standout dunk last night - easily best play of the game.
4-2 Caps and ball goes to Bubbles on the right wing from a fastbreak. One defender between him and the basket and he takes it in looking like he's going for a contact layup. Instead crams it down on some poor bloke's head from outta nowhere - impressive.

poor bloke = Lefty
Matt Hanson for consecutive POWs? He certainly fits the bill if BQ has decided not to 'share' it around this season.
Who's good for the ladies? Jenna O'Hea from the Wizards perhaps.
Rebecca Haynes 22pts 10 rebounds 6 blocks 7 assists and 5 steals
Jason Auccion back playin for the goannas!
Yep nice numbers from Haynes, but the level of opposition wasn't as challenging (sorry Bundy girls).
Good to have Aucoin back in the L as well - the lizards will absolutely benefit from his play.

Well what does that say for cab suns who bundy girls beat by 18 points the week before? I dont think many opposition teams will come close to power, but that dosnt mean the players arnt deserving of POW.

When the Townsville Flames went through their dominant patch of a couple of years they hardly ever won a player of the week. Might be a similar story for the Gladstone girls this year.

Neers nearly got that win on saturday, was a great game to watch and the atmosphere was intense, it felt like a grandfinal but unfortunately they couldnt pull off the upset. Very promising performance for big stephen kluck and was great to see G-Love back in form. (Highlight of the night was Broomey getting blocked by Aaron howard early in the game)
anthony petrie on the northside roster, seems a better fit then trigger for there look this year...... Tough

I can answer my own question - looks like we're sharing the awards again this season.
Week 2 awards go to Golson and Haynes.

agreed Benny Hanson deserves POW this week as well, especially after pulling off one of the best dunks i've seen in a while that changed the game an got Bundy the roll on they needed to win..
bout 3 mins left in game scores were tied old mate back cuts gets it outside the key took 2 steps got massive air and just cocked it back and held it there for a LONG time, how long you ask well long enough for everyone to get out of the way so they didnt get dunked on.. that was the game breaker bundy needed after that they stayed in control for the last 3 mins to take it out by 7-8 pts..
any reports from the Rocky-Mackay game thought there would of been fireworks for sure up there?

I checked out the Chris Goulding show. Put up 41 points and had a 19 point 3rd quarter. That kid is going to be special. Brisbane had a import. Guard name Jason Curtis. he had 31 points, very quick lefty got to the basket whenever he wanted. He was impressive. Brisbane ended up falling apart during the second half. They have a young group but they are athletic and I think as soon as they learn the QBL they'll be very competitive group.

Purely on numbers, Hanson should have got it (19 boards to Reggie's 5). But you could make a pretty fair argument for Golsen as well considering that:
* Mackay would probably be most people's pick for title favourite. Gladdy not even close.
* Reggie played less minutes (though not by much), shot a better clip and scored 1 more point
* 6 steals v 0 for Hansen

Sorry I look at the Bundy game as battle for wooden spoon.
Rocky was down 20 at quarter time and didn't look like winning!
Reggie sat minutes cause of fouls but when he bame back the rebounds and blocks and buckets weren't just run of the mill shots. Everyone was a shot straight back at Mackay after they kept hitting huge baskets. He kept pacing the Rockets and then got the crowd back in with the "Reggie" chant which opened it up for a 42 point turn around.
So if you tell me if the game in in the PFL that is pool for last was better I'm listening
