Northside Men to add Anthony Petrie for their clash against Caboolture this weekend. Petrie has come out of the 2010 NBL season finishing in the top 10 rebounding statistics, and also claiming the M.I.P. award in the NBL.

Petrie is at the top of his game and getting to play alone side his fellow Gold Coast Blaze team mate Chris Goulding, which makes for some ready made chemistry for the Wizards. Both these boys have also gotten the call up for the Australian Boomers squad as they prepare for their tour.

Should be a good game to watch, with Northside wanting to hang on to their top spot on the QBL ladder, and Thalo and Williamson's Caboolture team hungry for their first win.

You'll need that bullet proof vest Wookie. You still owe me a 6pk of bourban when we went halves in that carton last yr!!! So I'm gunning for you if I don't get them back before the game!!! Should be a fun game with a few heated exchanges here and there no doubt. What would be a local Derby without them

Just checked the scores to see that Maroochy have pulled off a huge upset, beating Bundy 109-104 on their home floor. WOW. Wingding, Hanson and Shackle put up huge numbers but it appears they were countered by Maroochy's hot shooting which included 17/34 from downtown. Would love to hear observations from somebody at the game.

Suns beating Wizards a surprise also, although a mild one.

Any calls for POW? I'll take:

Men: Izzy Tueta and his 34pts / 9 dimes against Bundy

Women: Kass Mogg going 31 & 14 for Bundy in the earlier game against Maroochy (edit: name on boxscore appears to be incorrect)

Trigger had 39 @ 66% and 8 but they will pass it around to a different club.
Thalo was tough with 36 & 14 with 60% from the field.

shaping up to a very interesting season already with some results from the weekend surprising everyone and making for an interesting ladder come end of season if it continues...

Rocky beat Gladdy with Trig doin all the hardwork an Golsen scoring most of his points in last 5 mins..

Clips beat Bundy shooting at 50% from the Arc in a high scoring game and Izzy puttin up POW numbers..

Suns beat NS by 1 with NS being full strength but somehow only passing 2 assists all game that cant be right can it a team only gettin 2 dimes total..

Sw got Cairns in a low scoring affair with D-Vale only scoring 3 pts in 30+ mins i like the guy but cmon dude 3pts at 9% in 30mins gets my vote for WOW award (Worst of the week)

seems there are alot of players getting fouled out and in foul trouble too, is it the reffing or the speed of the games? this does effect the teams with no depth.

players still getting big numbers in the 40 min games!

I also thought ippy beating brissy was a bit of an upset.

I thought the same thing. A mate at the game though was telling me that their offense wasn't relying on set plays/passes and that the ball was pretty much going to B-Rad and Thalo who went to work with it. The other players got points off fastbreaks or scrapping around the basket and getting cheapies.

@ CRACK: have noticed the same thing re foul trouble. I wouldn't contribute it to a faster pace or the way the games are getting called. Perhaps because a lot of teams are relying on their starters to remain on court for the bulk of the game, and if they rack up fouls quickly that puts them behind the 8 ball off the bat. ??

no the assists at caboolture were no right watch the game tape there were a lot more. it's just the staff out there are too retarded to record rebounds and assists properly or stop the clock on time after a whistle. do the job properly or don't do it at all.

How will rocky go when trigger leaves after Townsvills game, while McDade is a beast on the boards, Wookie as big as ever, Reggie will have to be the go to man. They might comeback to the rest of the pack.

doesnt that mean they have 3 restricted players in trigger(nbl), golson(u.s) and wookie playing in sweden now qbl and isnt wookie dutch? and also has played international bball for holland i believe.

that to me says he is restricted and a foreign player

Wookie played for us for 3 season as an Australian and an unrestricted player. You can't go witch hunting champ now he's jumped ship to an hr up the road.

It is what it is really. Point being if you want to make him restricted now this should have been looked at a few yrs ago. Too bad so sad.

We gave them a real shake on saturday night with the score line being in no way reflective of the actual game. They are a good side with trigger and only time will tell with McDade. But if you go on the beast he was 2 yrs ago. They will lose a little scoring but will make up in other areas.

my question is then why wasnt something done by bq to research this, that shows a distinct lack of not doing their job properly and something should be done about it

it's weird how some associations stats differs to others, i guess because its an interpretation of what you learn some people see assists/turn overs etc differently to others.. i remember a few years ago Zane was getting 8 or 9 at home an 2 or 3 away...

as for Rocky i asked the same question about how they will go PT (post-trigger) defensively they go to a 9 out of 10 but offensively they drop to a 6 or maybe a 7 out of 10.. i personally think although they will be good they wont be as scary come round 5..

Do people actually have any understanding on the restricted player rules. You can moan once the season is started or you can know the rules/leagues prior to the season and select your team around that. Some associations do a little homework, like Gladstone, Rocky & Mackay, and Cairns for that matter when they had so many Veterans running around that it's no wonder that they have a slight advantage. It naturally helps to have a budget behind you but once again that comes down to having quality administration.

The question mark with Rocky was always going to be scoring depth once McDade came back, but if history is anything to go by, he was probably our most consistent scorer for the second half of 2008 when we won the National title. Staying in games is probably the only X factor on McDade getting his 20 and 15. Time will tell just how good the group is going to be, but that is no different from Mackay and a bunch of other big name teams. They all be completely different sides by round 10, so no point reading too much into the first few weeks of the competition.

Rocky will definitey be a different beast without Trigger. As it is now, there's maybe only 3 guys that they can really go to in order to make something happen offensively - Trigger, Reggie, and maybe Peni as well. Nobody else has ever really been counted on to take the initiative and make something happen offensively - they just take whatever opportunites are presented to them. Mostly Rocky have relied on individual brilliance from guys like Rhys Martin, Ben Thompson, Charles Brown, Reggie, Trigger, etc. to generate their points. It will be interesting to see if they can get some effective team offense going now or whether they'll try to run with the usual pick and roll / give it to Reggie strategy that has worked for them in the past. Either way they'll still be very tough though you'd expect the opposition won't have to think hard about who needs some extra attention when the game is on the line and the Rockets need a basket.

As to the matter of Wookie, Gladstone has a letter from BQ stating that he is unrestricted and that was last year, this issue was clarified after a phone call from a northern ass to Blair raising the same issue last year. Can not see how he would be restricted this year. Good hunting Wookie.
