Maroochy are streaky hot watch for them to grab some upsets.
Who will turn up for Goldie agree Bundy should be good.
Northside too strong in both.
Southwest too strong
Rocky and Mackay too strong.

Maroochy @ Cairns - The nightmare Northern trip for the Clippers. I think with Meehl, Tueta and Kenny they can push Cairns but Williams, Hill and Brebner will be too much. MARLINS by 8.
Brisbane @ South West - Brisbane are up and down and up again. Jason Curtis has been a revelation but he needs help. With Carter, Teys, Ammar and Cameron the Pirates will do too much. PIRATES by 11.
Northside @ Ipswich - With the Force being inconsistent, I can see Goulding, Petrie and Davis having a day out. WIZARDS by 14.
Maroochy @ Townsville - The Clippers back up from a tough Cairns game and meet a Heat side coming from a 3-win weekend in Brisbane. Egan and Cedar are playing well. HEAT by 13.
Toowoomba @ Rockhampton - A nightmare trip for the Mountaineers. Going into a deadly enviroment following a tough home loss the Rockets will destroy Toowoomba. ROCKETS by 18.
Gold Coast @ Gladstone - Finally a probably close game. The Goannas at full strength should trouble the Power even in Gladstone. Ray Canady is a great player and I think he will be too much for Jason Aucoin to handle. POWER by 7.
Toowoomba @ Mackay - Now this could get ugly, early on. Tough trip from Rockhampton, then meet the powerful Meteors. Anyone of Blanchfield, Martin, Coenraad or Fitzgerald could drop 40 here. METEORS by 33.
Gold Coast @ Bundaberg - With Gleeson, Gurney and Aucoin the Goannas are a decent squad again, having said that there will be too much Matthew Hanson and too much Willie Shackleton. BULLS by 8.
Caboolture @ Northside - Suns need to find some form and win some big games and here is an ideal game. A strong Wizards line-up is ripe for Williamson, McGlynn and Green to pick. But, too much Petrie, too much Goulding and a Wizards win. WIZARDS by 10.

hear hear to the bloke encouraging people to post more often.. some of us sit in offices an need to look like we are doing work by typing on a keyboard and if i have no-one to reply to it makes that task a little harder..

only one or two games that will be close this weekend so instead of game reviews thought i would compare teams to the alcohol i think are most relevant to them or that i can somehow connect to winnin the championship and whatever i drink is who im backing..
might give you a laugh or it might not make sense.. but as above as long as the keyboard is making noises i look busy & everyone is a winner..

Maroochy Cruisers @ Cairns Gin & Juice
Clips average age probably means they go through alot of these on roadtrips also im comparing their outside shooting to the drink, you need alot of them to get drunk (or win).. Cairns alot like Gin & Juice has a great reputation from the past but although its still cool it isn't as good now as it was back then.. i'm drinking a 4L juice bottle with a bottle Gin
Cns 2;1 Maroochy 7:1

Brisbane XXXX gold @ South West tooheys white stag
Caps are like XXXX gold aren't likely to trouble you but every now an again you wake up an wonder what the hell happened last nite aka Bundy a few weeks ago..
Tooheys white stag had all those awesome ads (google them if you cant remember) like the one where he gives his mate beer after he dirty texts his mum etc & they had alot of buzz about it but like SW it hasn't really lived up to the hype yet...
i'll scull a 6 pack of Tooheys White Stag please
SW 2:1 Bris 5:1

Northside Vodka & pineapple @ Ipswich Pasion pop
Wiz look a little girly but thats why they are dangerous most ppl are worried about Rum or Bourbon but Vodka is the silent killer & NS could be the same..
passion pop is cheap an can get you drunk but the only problem is you cant predict if your goin to end up doin the horizontal tango or wake up sleepin in the gutter with no shoes same with which Ippy team shows up..
Hhhmmm Vodka & pineapple with a slice of lemon on ice
NS 2:1 Ippy 8:1

Maroochy Cruisers @ Townsville VB
VB is rough as guts an will get you drunk alot although not many Qldrs choose to drink it.. Tville follow a similar pattern & not many ppl think thy will be there come GF but imo they are a dark horse..
i'll have a carton of VB thanks
Tville 2:1 Clips 9:1

Toowoomba local port @ Rocky rum
neers are like a good local port; cheap & a little rough around the edges but homegrown & not bad unforunately not many ppl get drunk on port these days..
Rocky & rum is more in reference to their crowd an the fact Rocky drink more Bundy rum per population then anyone else.. thats easy to believe if you haved played at Hevgold an have to listen to the rubbish some of the bogans come up with but Rum also gets you smashed an is a popular choice to drink and also to win the championship..
10 pack of Black rats (Bundy) an a pack of winnie blues
Rky 2:1 Twmba 7:1

Gold Coast Fosters @ Gladstone long island ice tea
not to sure why i choose Fosters maybe because GC will prob make the semi's without really earning it just like ppl overseas think Fosters is an Aussie beer without any aussies drinkin it..
obviously we have more Seppos involved with our program than anyone else either playin, through marriage or ppl who want to be a yank haha :) hence Long Island ice tea.. well that an you either have one or two an its ok or we beat you aka our 2nd games against Heat, Cairns, Mkay & Rocky... :)
5 Long Island ice teas an we'll be laying on the floor singing the Power song
Power 2:1 GC 6:1

Toowoomba local port @ Mackay bourbon
like Rum, Bourbon is another favoured drink of the loud bogan although this one has more international appeal and more people get drunk on Bourbon then bundy hence why the Favs to win it all are classed as bourbon well that an sometimes bourbon drinkers get an overinflated ego like a certain player from their team..
a few large glasses of Bourbon & ginger ale
Mky 2:1 Neers 10:1

Gold Coast Fosters @ Bundy tropical punch
if you have ever had a good tropical punch its probably cos you have been to one of my parties.. see what you do with a punch is you throw in a little bit from here, there an everywhere alot like Currie has done with his team this season.. the problem is sometimes the punch tastes good an is a success an other times it's a disaster..
A good Bowl of Tropical punch with some tinned fruit floating on top
Bdy 2:1 GC 5:1

Caboolture Baileys @ Northside vodka & pineapple
Baileys is expensive and everyone likes it but costwise its not that effective if you want to get drunk..
another Vodka & pineapple
NS 2:1 Cab 6:1

i am in no way encouraging binge drinking so drink in moderation an gamble with your head not over it...
p.s. for those who take bendoes seriously please dont read this post

Nagas that is one of the funniest posts I have read in a long time. Had me laughing the whole way through. Think you got all of your results right too.

You gonna do a end of season forecast with assessments of all the teams soon, sure that would be a crack up too!

Gladstone are like a bottle of tequilla . A bit american but with the touch of mexican . Golden by colour sometimes consumed too hard and fast , resulting in an empty bottle by 3 quarter time , and as they show on the road after the last drinks siren sounds , it's time to eat the worm!!!!

Moochy almost snuck by Townie as well, looks like they lost their legs in the last quarter.

Wizards without Bubbles just got Suns. Wiz were out by 20 in the first half but Thalo n B-Rad got going. Best game I've seen Brad play for ages.

How can Reggie Golson be back for Rocky? I thought he was suspended for 5 weeks.

Ben, Ippy never let their stars get going apart from Petrie who played well. Davis with 3-10 and Goulding with 2-12 from outside hurt. Goulding had an ugly roll of his ankle in the last minute of the game with Ippy up by 8 so that wasn't an influencer

Here's an update on the ladder for everyone in their respective pools:

Mackay Meteors 13 12 1
Rockhampton Rockets 14 12 2
Townsville Heat 15 10 5
Cairns Marlins 14 8 6
Gladstone Power 14 5 9

Northside Wizards 15 11 4
Maroochydore Clippers 15 6 9
Bundaberg Bulls 15 5 10
Caboolture Suns 14 3 11
Brisbane Capitals 16 3 13

SW Metro Pirates 15 10 5
Gold Coast Goannas 14 9 5
Ipswich Force 14 7 7
Toowoomba M 14 0 14

One of the North teams will win so three teams get through in that pool. This means Cairns need to fight. Also Bundy's recent loses to GC and Ippy will hurt them in their battle for a position. The other one to look out for is between GC and Ippy. Crunch time.

Although the playoffs are starting to get closer it is interesting to note that the only 2 teams right now who still have no mathematical possibility of making the playoffs are Gladstone and Toowoomba. Sure it would take Mackay and Rockhampton to fall into a massive hole but at this stage even Caboolture and Brisbane are a chance if this happens and Northside somehow finished on top.

North

Team Played Won Lost Win %
Mackay 13 12 1 92%
Rockhampton 14 12 2 86%
Townsville 15 10 5 67%
Cairns 14 8 6 57%
Gladstone 14 5 9 36%

Central

Team Played Won Lost Win %
Northside 15 11 4 73%
Maroochydore 15 6 9 40%
Bundaberg 15 5 10 33%
Caboolture 14 3 11 21%
Brisbane 16 3 13 19%

South

Team Played Won Lost Win %
South West 15 10 5 67%
Gold Coast 14 9 5 64%
Ipswich 14 7 7 50%
Toowoomba 14 0 14 0%

Some of the key moments over the next couple of weeks to determine who will make it through;

North -

Cairns really needs to sweep this coming weekends road trip of Toowoomba, Northside and Gold Coast to be any chance and keep the pressure on Townsville for a probable 3rd playoff spot in the North. Being 1 loss down on Townsville but effectively 2 losses down since Townsville has the split if they drop any this weekend it could be season over since Townsville still has a game against Toowoomba to come.

Mackay's two road trips to come but especially the final weekend against Townsville and Cairns looms as the deciding factor to whether Mackay or Rocky will lock up top spot for the season.

Central -

Interestingly Northside are the only team in the league at the moment who are guaranteed a playoff spot considering if they dropped their final 3 games they would still finish ahead of anybody in their pool and will host a quarter final, maybe even a semi and a final if the world turns upside down in the north.

Should there only be two playoff spots in the central pool Maroochy hold a clear advantage since they have the split over Bundaberg with these two teams the most likely to fight out the final spot.

Bundy more than likely would need to win out for the rest of the season including Mackay at home this weekend to keep pressure on Maroochy who would need to lose all three games if Mackay won this weekend for Bundy to be a chance. Maroochy probably only needs 1 more win out of Caboolture, Gladstone and Ipswich to lock in their spot.

South -

The southern pool is still the real lottery with the difference being there are still games to be played between playoff contenders here making things really complicated.

Although South West sit on top at the moment they have games against both Gold Coast and Ipswich, pretty simple though and if they win both of these they will finish on top of the pool.

Gold Coast have the toughest run in of any team with Cairns, Mackay, Rocky and South West. If they make it to the playoffs they will have earnt their spot their and they will need to carry their winning form from the weekend road trip through. They do hold the advantage of the series split over Ipswich though and this could be crucial to them with their tough run home.

For Ipswich it is really simple, they need to keep winning to be a chance. At the very best they could maybe drop 1 game and home Gold Coast dont win again.

Finals just around the corner people, time to get excited!

19-07-10, 16:13
anyway time for the weekly wrap up..

few shocks on the weekend an that's not including jumping in a hotel pool at 4am on the way home on the weekend..

the biggest one being Ippy over Wizards that definitely was unexpected even though i said Ippy were like Dr Jeckyl/Mr Hyde, i really didnt expect them to beat NS at their best.. that's not a good look this close to end of the season and How bad is Bubbles ankle???

also didnt think that Goldy would get the road double although i dont think ippy will win enough games to trouble them those 2 games will go along way to ensuring they get a chop at SW at least or maybe even a home semi..

a few interesting runs home with 3 teams Bundy/Tvile/Cairns having the power to really screw up the top of the table as they both play NS an Mkay and i'm sure Rocky are hoping for a another upset or two involving both teams since they have the easiest run home of the top 3..

but i think old mate is clutching at straws if he thinks NS still have a chance to finish top of the state.. Mackay could lose to Power/Tville/Cairns etc and Wiz finish with 3 more wins because then Rocky would host the final..

player of the week...... no one realy certin.

Petrie looks good going 1-1 but 33 & 13 in a loss and 19 & 10 also been a good player through the season.

Maybe - Gleeson played well against Gladstone and then had to good of a night out in the Gspot to recover for the next day, Broome killed Brisbane but they dont have any solid bigs so its a tough call but did it in limited mins. Fitzy also put up big numbers in limited mins against towoomba.

Mr bEn
19-07-10, 17:02
Broomy with 34 points at 16 from 19 from the field has my pick for player of the week.

His numbers are inflated against a side with no recognised interior strength. But then again nobody else really put their hand up over the weekend, so he'll likely get it.

Yvonne Turner from Bundy with a huge trip dub against Goldie should take the women.

Egan had 32 and 9 to save the heats playoff chances with the Clippers leading late in the fourth

Unregistered
20-07-10, 15:18
Aucoin was solid and reliable for Goldy to get Road double
Broomy with good numbers but Brissy have no real bigs.
Fitzy good numbers again.
Shackleford with 18 O boards deserves a mention in loosing effort.
Bogans same deserves a mention in loosing effort with 34 points.

Seen nothing to suggest that this season.

you guys clearly know nothing about the game. Brad has'nt had a dominant season but he's playing on an average team. Plenty of NBL teams would want him, hence why he got signed by towny. He's had to play a different role compared to what he's used to.I don't think anyone in the NBL will be leaving him open just because he did'nt dominate the qabl. So yes he should be in the best 5 in the south, EASILY!

So yes he should be in the best 5 in the south, EASILY!

He shouldn't be if we're all judging on form, which I believe we are.

I'm a B-Rad fan, but he's certainly suffered from suffocating defences and whatever else this season.

If we're selecting a South 5, Jay Curtis, Zane, Izzy, Gleeson and Bubbles are all clearly ahead of him on the pecking order.

I checked the numbers prior to my message. All of those players listed I consider to have better numbers, if only slightl. Their situations don't differ from Brad's either, so their performances don't deserve less recognition by any means. Time to take those Suns-coloured glasses off
