View Full Version : QBL 2010 - Week 13
FRIDAY
Cairns @ Toowoomba
SATURDAY
Mackay @ Bundaberg
Toowoomba @ South West
Maroochydore @ Caboolture
Cairns @ Northside
Rockhampton @ Brisbane
SUNDAY
Rockhampton @ Ipswich
Mackay @ Gladstone
Cairns @ Gold Coast
Of interest this week, Maroochy taking on the Suns. A win for the Clippers put them in the box seat for second seed in the sunshine pool, especially if Bundy drop to Mackay. Cairns also need to take home 3/3 on their road trip to remain in playoff contention, and it's not unreasonable to say they'll do just that.

Do you think Cairns will get all 3?
Townsville did and set up their run home.
Northside without Bubbles will be interesting.
Maroochydore can get going can Suns actually turn up this year and win one they should.
Can Rocky get both on road----I think so.
Can Mackay get both on road. Goldie did it last week.

This round could almost see a clean sweep for the away sides. When was the last time anybody thought that was even half a chance in the QBL?

The last time all Nothern teams had roadtrips together?
thanks for the great response after lasts weeks tips unfortunately i only have 15mins before the footy an pizza starts so i'll keep this brief...
Cairns @ Toowoomba
the cairns boys would be freezing their beegeebees off up on the mountain tonite.. $30 on Cairns...
Mackay @ Bundaberg
Mackay will be glad Llyod Lewis is on the injured list if they think we hit them hard when we were in Mackay he sets the best screens in the league... $30 on Mackay
Toowoomba @ South West
only a few games left for Neers to get the monkey off their back, i hope they get to sing the team song before seasons end... $20 on SW
Maroochydore @ Caboolture
Big Local rivalry, big money vs big local content, Clips have one of the best boys development programs and it shows in games like this... $10 on Clips
Cairns @ Northside
BIG BIG BIG BIG BIG game here, Cairns are used to loud crowds an loud pumping music in the warm up you wont get that at Boondal unless they just forget warm up music everytime we play there... that combined with the cold gives Wiz the edge but this is game of the week.. $5 on Cairns
Rockhampton @ Brisbane
last time kingma played here he got 3 weeks suspension for doing a Reggie, i hope mugsy has these two under control after this game... $40 on Rocky
Rockhampton @ Ipswich
which Ippy team is going to show up for this one? Mackay & Wiz are hoping its the giant killers but im not sure if they can pull it off 2 weeks in a row... $ 40 on Rocky
Mackay @ Gladstone
Coach King thinks we are a dirty team who's fouls border the line between flagrant an intentionaly dirty... hhhmm King we were being nice to your boys i dont think things will be so nice at the Powerhouse... $50 on us
Cairns @ Gold Coast
great game for Goldy to continue their winning run, Cairns will be buggered after throwing everything at the Wiz... can they take advantage i think they should go easy on them to convince Vale to play for them next season when he moves there... $10 on Cairns

anyone know the result from the marlins game tonight
Marlins by 35. Neers only suited up 8 players by the looks, and no G-Love or Reimann???
Women got up by a similar margin, no Pedro playing. Anybody know if she even travelled down?

Cairns @ Toowoomba - Cairns have already beaten Toowoomba here. Jeromie Hill dropped in 28 points in 22 minutes PT.
Mackay @ Bundaberg - Even though I almost like Bundaberg's squad, the powerhouse Meteors will be too strong. Too much scoring from the perimeter. TIP: Meteors by 14.
Toowoomba @ South West - The Pirates should take a comfortable win here and secure some finals action. Teys, Ammar and Broom will be too much. TIP: Pirates by 18.
Maroochydore @ Caboolture - A big game here. I like the Clippers when Kenny & Tueta are up and scoring however Thalo Green and Brad Williamson are a potentially deadly 1-2 punch. TIP: Suns by 4.
Cairns @ Northside - Big game here and without Chris Goulding I suspect Anthoney Petrie and Shane Davis will need big games. I think between Hill, Brebner and Comino they can contain Petrie. TIP: Marlins by 8.
Rockhampton @ Brisbane - Unless Jason Curtis explodes for another monster game I cannot see the young Captials stealing this at home. Rockhampton are weakened however, I suspect a win is still here. TIP: Rockets by 7.
Rockhampton @ Ipswich - Backing up from a tough one in Brisbane the Rockets hit Ipswich and Stolberg and co. Expect young Philp, McDade and Kingma to do enough. TIP: Rockets by 8.
Mackay @ Gladstone - A good game here, Gladstone will fancy themselves as being able to take Mackay on the Powers floor. Barlow will need to contain Canady, however I cannot see them containing all of Fitzgerald, Blanchfield and Coenraad. TIP: Meteors by 11.
Cairns @ Gold Coast - Cairns on a 3-game swing, a big thing to win all 3. And although two are tough I expect them to come into this one 2 zip on the weekend. Whether Gleeson and Aucoin can fire will let you know how the Goannas go but I expect a Fish win. TIP: Marlins by 6.
My tip for Player of the Week. Jeromie Hill has a chance with 28 already on the board and a chance to win all 3. Anyone Meteors scorer can explode on any night as can Raymond Canady. Ryan McDade could grab 40 boards this weekend and maybe score 40 points.
TIP: Ryan McDade with over 40 points and around 40 boards for the weekend.

Clippers 98 / 94 Suns.
Zane DD with 43pts/12rebs and 0 assists? . 3 others in double figures and Scott had DD with 17 & 11 boards. Thalo had 31 & 14 and Brad had 23pts for the Suns.
Clipps led by as many as 13.
Josh T. got ejected after a '[I]howyagoin-gettingtoknowyou with Thalo in the 2nd q.
Good game. Close finish. Maroochy clinches finals birth.

Tom Ammar had a massive dunk over one of the mountain men in the pirates win. Massive.
If Gladstone win 2 from the next 3 games they will take top spot with there split over Northside and Mackay.
They play Maroochydore and Caboolture this weekend who have struggled for wins this season and play Rocky next weekend who have been inconsistant but can play well.
No mention of Cairns @ Goldie on Sunday? Apparently Deba hit 7 points in the last minute, including a triple with two secs left to win the game.
The GC VS Cairns game was a great close game. Deba hot the winning shot but it shouldn't of counted. It was a terrific shot but Cairns inbounded the ball with 1.2 seconds left and that was supposedly enough time for Deba to bounce twice, lose control of the ball, regain control, turn and shoot. The refs really stuffed up that one, it would of been great to see an overtime!

Refs or Score bench...
the number of times i have seen the score bench choke in close games and not start/stop the clock correctly... it always causes dramas..... and always happens in close heated games...
It would be the fault of both but ultimately the refs cause they can overrule and make any decision.
coming down to the pointy end of the season and Power gals get it done at home without powerhouse Katie Rose against a fiery Mackayettes..
goes to show what difference home court makes to some teams with the power gals gettin done by 10 up there and then winnin by 20-30+ at home.. like Crack said now they have to win 2 out of 3 to gurantee home grand finals if that happens you might want to order your tickets that day its confirmed cos their were no spare seats for that game on Sunday..
in regards to that what's the deal for finals an visiting team supporters does the home team have to allocate a certain % of seats to each team or a number etc???
i know Rocky called the day after our gals lost to SW (an therefore losing our home court final) claiming they had sold out of the stadium already an wouldn't be able to give us any seats..
which we were angry with but then when they moved the game to Friday it actually backfired on them when the Gladstone crowd absolutely OWNED hevgold due to lack of Rocky supporter numbers that was a good day for me singing the Power song in the middle of the court :)
but enough of the women all the usual suspects got the wins last weekend..
my boys gave Mets abit of a scare but just not enough to get the win at home & they should have home court grand finals now unless they lose both to Cairns an Tville on that double header...
Cairns beating Wiz but only just scraping home against GC was a little of a suprise but thats two games this month now where they have had to hit a winning shot in dying seconds an have come up with the goods..
for them to get the 3rd spot they still need Tville to lose to NS an Mackay an they need to beat Mackay in Cairns...
Clips have probaly secured the 2nd spot in central pool unless Bundy have the split on them an Bundy beat NS Suns an Clips lose to Ippy..
so a few what ifs but most spots are secure enough to start plannign for the finals now..
in regards to that what's the deal for finals an visiting team supporters does the home team have to allocate a certain % of seats to each team or a number etc???

Anyone know the format for who plays who which pools play which pools etc
Quarter Finals
1st Pool A v 2nd Pool A
1st Pool B v 2nd Pool C
1st Pool C v 2nd Pool B
Semis
Top of ladder after regular season v lowest-ranked QF winner
Highest ranked QF winner v 2nd ranked QF winner
Quarter Finals
1st Pool A v 2nd Pool A
1st Pool B v 2nd Pool C
1st Pool C v 2nd Pool B
Semis
Top of ladder after regular season v lowest-ranked QF winner
Highest ranked QF winner v 2nd ranked QF winner
so does this mean at this point the games are;
Rocky v Heat
SW vs Clips
Wiz vs GC
with Mackay waiting getting the week bye???
Previous years has been the top teams from each pool play?
Mens
So Mackay go through
-south west vs Gold coast (they also happen to play in the last round)
-Northside vs Maroochydore
-Rocky vs Townsville
Then Mackay play lowest ranked winner
and the 2 highest winners play

Thought it was top two in each pool play each other and winner goes through to finals weekend with top seeded team ( Mackay ) to go through automatically??????
Was at Gold Coast game and can't beleive score bench allowed Debas shot. Was so obvious that it was longer than 1.2 seconds.

This has happened in previous seasons, but I took the crossover format direct from BQ, and this year is the first it is being used. Please refer to a previous post in this thread.

Ben is correct, thou confusion reigns as even BQ thought it was the "old" format when I enquired a few weeks ago.
FWIW, I think there's more to be gained from inter-pool quarter finals, rather than crossovers. Rivalries such as Goldie/South West and Wizards/BBI would attract a lot more interest, and would also encourage greater crowd numbers. I thought this had worked well from previous seasons.

Think finals designed this way so best 2 teams from both pools progress through. This may not of been the case in previous years.
