Mackay v Gold Coast - With Mackay playing their last game at home before the finals they will be too good and too inspired to make sure there home record stays undefeated for the year. Rhys or Fitzy should do the job shutting down Fitzy and Gold Coast might struggle with getting pressed for the full 40 minutes as Mackay do. Tipping Blanchfield to explode in this game. Mackay by 20

Bundaberg v Caboolture - The first game of the weekend where the two teams are playing for nothing but pride with their playoff chances dead. Caboolture have probably been the biggest disappointment of the season with Bundy not far behind. Hanson v Thalo will be a cracker or a match up and will cancel each other out a bit so I am tipping the Suns on the back of a improved game from B-Rad. Suns in a close one by 4

South West v Ipswich - As opposed to the previous game this is one of those games that matter a lot. Ippy really need this game to be a chance of staying in the race for the finals and a win here would pretty much lock up top spot in the south for the Pirates. I think the Pirates just have too much depth for Ipswich with Ipswich's only wins on the road this season being against the lowly Toowoomba and Brisbane I can't see them getting this one. South West by 12

Toowoomba v Townsville - Time is running out for the mountain men to get a win this season but I dont think this will be it with Townsville playing for heaps this weekend with two wins locking up their playoff spot. Margin might not be too big however as the Heat have not put too many teams totally away this year and they might struggle with the cold up the big hill. Heat by 15

Maroochydore v Gladstone - Should be an intruiging match-up between what I think are two very evenly matched teams who play very different styles on the offensive end with Gladstone all about getting to the whole with Maroochy love to ping that thing from the 3 point line. With Maroochy at home I will give the honors to them as they are trying to build towards a playoff in 2 weeks. Maroochy by 8

Rockhampton v Gold Coast - I know Goldy went 2 and 0 on the road two weeks ago but unfortunately for them it will be 0 and 2 this weekend. Rocky look to have woken up after their loss to Cairns a couple of weeks ago and they need this to keep pressure on Mackay for that top spot. Gold Coast will really struggle to handle Golson and like Blanchfield he will have a huge weekend this weekend. Rockhampton by 20

Caboolture v Gladstone - Another game with no effect on the playoffs. Weird draw with Gladstone probably in a better spot to play this game only coming from Maroochydore the night before while the Suns come back from Bundy. I dont think the Suns are good enough defensively to keep Gladstone out of the paint and this will be the Powers last chance for a win this season with an away game against Rocky to finish. Gladstone by 12

Northside v Townsville - Undoubtably the game of the week and should be a cracker. Such a shame that Goulding is out injured as it takes away a lot from this game. Petrie v Egan should be worth the price of admission. The winner of this game probably comes down to the support crew and who performs better between Davis and Cedar. The Heat should come into this game on the back of a 6 game streak and I think they will extend it to 7. Heat by 8

Big games at Hibiscus on Saturday night with the Pirates hosting Ippy.

WOMEN - A Pirates win would probably see both teams finish even on the standings, so f/a to consider here. Ippy win they pretty much seal first in southern.

MEN - As mentioned, Ippy desperately need a win to stay in the picture. An unikely win and two probable road losses for the Goldie would see Goldie one win ahead. Goldie take on the Pirates the following week and Ippy have Suns/Clippers. If the Pirates win they lock up first in southern and the Lizards should take second regardless of how last week results fall.

There are plenty og other games that will affect the playoff picture in both divisions, but Hibiscus should be the best visit for two well-contested games of ball.

Mackay Meteors vs Gold Coast Goannas - Nightmare trip for the Coasters. Top team in Mackay one night, 2nd placed Rocky the next. Too much perimeter scoring and athletic bodies for Aucoin, Gleeson and Gurney to compete with. TIP: Meteors by 18.
Bundaberg Bulls vs Caboolture Suns - I always liked the Suns with Green and Williamson's ability to score at will however nothing has clicked for this squad. Know one to cover big bombers in Hanson and Shackleton. TIP: Bulls by 10.
South West Metro Pirates vs Ipswich Force - The improved Pirates meet an also improved Force team. Steve Broom will want a big game against an old team whilst Teys, Ammar and Williams should be too much. TIP: Pirates by 8.
Toowoomba Mountaineers vs Townsville Heat - A cold, old trip for Townsville but they should really take care of business here. Look to Tudehope, Walmsley, Ferguson and Newnham to get some PT and buckets. TIP: Heat by 20.
Maroochydore Clippers vs Gladstone Power - The Clippers are hard to read for me, but, so are Gladstone. The addition of Canady has been good and Borgan and Iwanicki are solid. However, Meehl x2, Kenny and Tueta x2 should be stronger. TIP: Clippers by 7.
Rockhampton Rockets vs Gold Coast Goannas - I expect Goldie to be coming from a loss and expect a similar result here. Golson is back and will look to go hard against Jason Aucoin. TIP: Rockets by 13.
Caboolture Suns vs Gladstone Power - Suns need a decent showing from Williamson here and a win is achievable but I expect Canady to overpower any decent big from Caloundra. TIP: Power by 8.
Northside Wizards vs Townsville Heat - I like this match-up however I believe Chris Goulding will be out. Petris is a tough mark but Egan is as good as any in the 4 spot. Expect Chris Cedar to dominate. TIP: Heat by 4.

Mate Ijust had the best night at the QBL!
The basketball...? Zane shot the fark..g lights out! Izzy made everything happen and bagged whatever hewanted when he felt he needed to, Zeke did a pretty good job chasing big bro' stats with a stylish scoring spree and Josh Tueta showed the "why doesnt he do that all the time!!" game he's quietly famous for at the 'Dore. That Gianni guy is useless but!...whats a big guy doin' shooting 4-1 (80%) beyond the arc and giving the stats table RSI with his boards??! (Talk about inside/out 'engine room', and a top bloke to boot!)
Power gave us a look at 2or3 U.S. college players, and a pair of National Womens reps that the vital Australian resources providers can and should afford for their host community. Whats special is that they've then integrated them with local up-siders, (e.g. Ryley Buntain, Diana Nieve, etc.) and some local 'ball people, Legends, that have made this happen up there.
Of course one would have to suppose that Blair Smith's 3 year (is it?) committment to basketball in Central Qld., just might, have had an influence of the evident outcomes there.
Lets have a look at the Women in Sport and Youth leadership aspect that Jess and Nat have brought to town. Those M'dore youngster floor wipers tonight..?...doing their stuff for the Club... are a fortunate group who had the opportunity at this stage of their basketball learning, to see the women’s game played at that high and quality a tempo. Does any other team run the floor like that?
Game wise, simply blew us away from the arc in the 41 pt first qtr. The ball movement to get all players open and the shooting abilty of Nieve, Bibby, Hurst in particular but the whole squad is solid. Standard classy Clipperesses performance but. Dallas and Krista and some times Amy looked like the only ones handling it out there till rookie Emma McKenzie started looking like "a player they'll need to watch out for" in ABA. (Well played Emm) A seriously undermanned home team with a core of faithfuls made a quality game out of a potential horror.
OK...the Legends!
Is Nagas the Owner of that whole bloody show or what?! Is he Jackie Moon's love child with his very own version of Semi-Pro-Gladstone ? (Does he own a Refs Only nightclub in Noosa or something?...How does he get away with that stuff?)
All jokes aside, say what you like about dollars winning the QBL...when two Regional Associations provide a night of basketball like that, (Home:1 Away:1), and at such a high standard then I reckon those sponsors would reckon they are getting serious basketball bang for their buck. Saw strong future foundations in the Port City visit tonight. Well done.
Oh yeh, about Nagas...Mate I dont even know you but figured you must have been some legy player or something...and I was pleasantly surprised! Basketball is mourning the loss of her 'personalities'...the Nag-Guy keeps the spirit of Regional competition alive. Only been to play at Gladdy once and went home winless and drunk just fondly remembered it reminded me of home up North in the early days. As you now know mate...gotta be farken fit to outweigh Izzy and even quicker still...but you and your Legend mates provided a reminder of the true culture and spirit of Queensland Basketball. Played hard, done good. Top night!

Wow! Last week will be interesting!

Gold Coast lost to Mackay and Rocky (who were down by 7 at half time) while Ippy beat SW by 2. If Goldie lose to SW and Ippy beat Maroochy and Caboolture, Ippy go through.

Townsville lost to Northside by 3 leaving the Suns in a dead-tie with Cairns. Cairns and the Suns play Mackay next week (how perfect!) for a finals birth.

In pool B, Bundy win by 1 to give themselves a hope at making the finals. Unfortunately for them, Maroochy win against Gladstone, which puts Northside and Maroochy through to the finals.

I think you ment to say heat, they have the split on Cairns beating them by 10 then loosing by 5 but if either team beats mackay this weekend they go through.

looking at the Ladder they are showing teams for and Against rather then splits to decide position on the ladder.

Carins, South west and Townsville are tied. townsville beat south west and should have split on Cairns, south west beat Cairns.

Previous years have been splits between teams but as they changed the finals format have they changed this as well?

usually the tie break is the games between the teams involved in the tie, regardless of 2 or 3 team tie break. Nor sure if this is what happens when there are uneven number of games played between the tied teams tho. Could well be overall pts % is what will be used in this case.

Why is there no seperate pool ladder on the qbl website?? The one they have up doesn't even matter, is there anywhere on the net where you can see the individual pools and who will maqke playoffs?? So annoying.

Not a ladder for you but hopefully this information is all correct and will give you a better update of all of the possibilities going into the final round;

Northern Pool

Mackay - If they win 1 of their 2 games this weekend against Townsville and Cairns they will finish in top spot, bypass the quarter finals and host the semi-finals and final weekend. Should they lose both they would need Rocky to lose to Gladstone to keep the finals in Mackay, otherwise they would host a quarter final against the 3 placed northern team.

Rocky - As stated above need Mackay to drop both to have a chance of finishing on top, to do this they would also need to beat Gladstone. If Mackay win 1 on the road this weekend they will host either Cairns or Townsville in a quarter final.

Cairns - Need to beat Mackay to be any chance of making a probable quarter final with Rockhampton. If they lose they are done. If Mackay loses to Townsville on Friday night then they are also done since Townsville has the split on them.

Townsville - Still have their own destiny in their hands despite the weekend loss to Northside. If they beat Mackay they play a quarter final most likely against Rocky, possibly against Mackay. If they lose and Cairns win they will be done for the season. If Cairns also lose they also stay alive for a quarter.

Central Pool

Northside - have finished on top of the pool and will host a quarter final against the second placed south team which will be either Gold Coast or Ipswich.

Maroochydore - have finished second in the pool and will play an away quarter final against South West who are the top of the south pool.

South Pool

South West - have finished on top of the southern pool and will host a quarter final against Maroochydore in week one of the finals.

Gold Coast - they have the split over Ipswich so only need to finish level with them. Win over South West and they lock up second place and an away quarter final against Northside. Should they lose however they will be watching the Ippy results and if Ippy pull of the road double against Caboolture and Maroochydore then they would be knocked out.

Ipswich - Need to win both games on the weekend and for Gold Coast to lose to South West. If all of this happens they will head to Northside.

Should make for an interesting last weekend with lots to be decided which you couldnt ask for anything more at the start of the season. Based on all of the above the most likely games for week 1 of the playoffs is;

Mackay - bye
Quarter Final 1 - Townsville @ Rockhampton
Quarter Final 2 - Gold Coast @ Northside
Quarter Final 3 - Maroochydore @ South West

Sick of reading all the hate about gladdy girls in the past 2 weeks forums. These were the comments (above) of an Mdore supporter last year when the two teams met. Nothing has changed (except rose out and bowley in), the Gladstone girls will play hard till the end (no complacency), all other teams should learn from playing against a quality opposition. The local gladstone girls get their chance, in particular Beatson, Neves, Bailey, and now Gibson are all prominent in rotations.

In regards to locals the the problem with Gladstone is unfortunately alot of the best local women players leave town for uni or work etc, so the answer is to recruit to be competitive.
