Punter Ricky is the bookies bread and butter.
Maroochydore only snuck in the back door of the BQJBC post season due a "technical glitch" by the SD coach. (Though some think its reminiscent of the stunts kiwi horse trainers pull when they bring over Melbourne Cup runners and want to keep them under the radar for the Cup!)
Then Maroochydore (totally bottom age) beat Seahawks, Brisbane and the minor premiers SWM to give Logan an anxious final quarter in the grand final. If Ricky read his form he'd know SD beat Logan by 20+ once in the season and were also 5 points better head to head than Maroochydore. Think back to when Young Salecich and Page all made the 18 state team as bottom agers and the experts were tut-tutting. Straight after the Nationals they were at the AIS and playing for Australia! Good enough=old enough.
Take the $10 while its still available.
Bookies win agin!
the 2 teams playing for gold medal actually play all their team (yes the bench actually get a run) which is great to see.
Maybe some other coaches will learn from this? You need a deep bench at classics to succeed at this level.
swm hot favourites for the gold medal game today.

They sailed through the Pool Rounds silently like a ship passing through the night.
The Crossover's games were marked up next on their 'belt' of conquest
A formidable foe awaited them inthe Semi, and like before they cruised on through because in their sight was the elusive State Title awaiting on the new dawn.
The battle has come and gone and the Seahawks will fight another day. But glory goes to the victor and there flag will fly 'high' a fitting end for a campaign

Improvement required in the coaching department for Logan, BBI & Districts if they won't to challenge for next years title.
These associations must have more talent available to them than was shown over the past 4 days?

Congratulations and thankyou to Gold Coast Basketball, State Classics was fantastic at your venue, extremely well organized and ran. GF celebrations were awesome! To the players and coaches, it truly was terrific to watch your skills, attitudes & sportsmanship behavior! No better example of this than the GF yesterday! So many negetive things often said, so let's give credit where due!
Just one little question? Why did the boys always get 3 top refs for their games, yet the girls got 2 less experienced refs for theirs? Aren't all players paying the same and deserve equal?

boys did not advantage from 3 refs, one game our boys had 3 refs meant a very disjointed out of synch game. BA referee educator watched this game and was very frustrated at the poor refing standard of THIS game... so stop crying. This is a set policy in top level bball, women 2 refs, men 3 refs, we can't do anything about that, but we can about improving the quality of refereeing.
In my opinion the entire level of refereeing in QLD needs a huge shake up from top to bottom. Best referee award goes to Townsville female ref, which says a hell of a lot...

Unless your Polly or Shane (and neither of them would make such a dumb ass statement) then you got a pretty skewed view of this league. 3rd 4th and 5th in that competition is no mean feat. Everybody beat everybody at least once in this comp all year and it was just who got the roll, the deflection, bounce of the ball or call at the right time, that decided most clutch games on the weekend.
Polly and Shane, obviously, fantastic work and deserved congratulations. And Kym, Tony and Dwayne and everybody else who braves 4 days in a pressure cooker with 15-16 year old female athletes, great job and give yourselves a pat for adding value and quality to junior womens basketball throughout Queensland.
Congratulations Alan and Wendy and the enormous team at Gold Coast basketball for the event management standards that future Classics will be measured by. Closest replica of a Nationals tournament experience that a lot of the kids will get and even better than some. Narelle, Melinda and the BQ crew just keep getting better at this gig and Bob Lambourne, Barry, Fiona, Ray and the officiating educators raised the standards yet again.
Reckon Leonard yesterday covered more ground in one afternoon for the Player/Coach development and NITC than we have seen in the last 2 years for those programs.
My team didnt finish where we wanted too either but certainly couldnt fault the event, the organisation or the standard of players and coaches at these classics.
Bet the GCC Council loosen the purse strings for some glass backboards at both venues after the public success of this event. haha

Good on you! Nobody was crying you idiot! Read the message again and this time read it for what it is! I never complained about the refs, it was a question about the quality of refs and difference between this quality in both the Boys and girls. It certainly appeared that the better refs did the boys games, even if there were 3 refs and yet in the girls games the 2 refs seemed to be of a lower standard.
Maybe you need to buy some glasses, can't read properly so how can you criticise the refs decisions.
I do agree with your Townsville statement though, however is working for basketball up there is doing a top rate job. The way they play as a team, coach and ref is well ahead of BQ in all levels overall.

You have to be in it to win it. No use picking or choosing when to attend a major event and speculate that you may or may not have taken the State Title from those who actually came out and played the Tournament.

There were other inclusions in that team you could question before Aleisha Myers.

Hard to believe a player capable of scoring 50pts in premier league finals games sits on the bench in that team - maybe had she been given more court time the team would have benefitted.

Myers - limited minutes?? I watched all their games, she only sat the bench once in a easy round game where the coach had to sit her cause she had 4 fouls. She played every game without a sub cause she sooked if she came off. You can be a top scorer if you have the ball in your hand for every possession, but if you can back it up with some defence then that makes you a great player...

On that note; then how did a player who "can not play defense" even make a state team?
Sure everyone knows the player in question is an offensive jugernaut, and that is obvioulsy the strongest part of her game and un matched by any other player in the South. For you to say she can not play defense is just not true.
I think everyone will see the advantages of playing Aleshia as a bottom ager at next years National Championships.

unfortunately i did see her performance at nationals, great offensive player but unfortunately couldnt match up on the D end. and yeah there were other players in that team that did have better defence (tianna, mikayla D, kalani, - hence the limited minutes... not saying anything but what was blatantly obvious when she was on the court. and I saw it again at classics, she is happy for her player to drive past her and expects her teammates to play defence, get rebounds and where is myers at the half way line already waiting for the pass - isnt that called "cherry picker"....

Ok Mum or Dad, someone, said that she "can not play defense". I merely asked how did she make a state team then? No one has answerewd that question.
You clearly have an issue with this player and you obvioulsy are a parent of a player in the team, do you really think this is the approraite venue to air your grievances? Why not send an email to BQ outlining your issues? That means you would have to be accountable for your actions and comments, that is not going to happen now is it?
The girl has game, she needs to work on some aspects, as all 15/16 yo children do, give her a break. I would suggest that you need to have a look in the mirror, you are more than likely an adult and you are denigrating a child on a public forum, shame on you.

Great to see some of the 18's taking the step up in QBL last night.
Megan and Aleisha both played contributing roles with Gold Coast as did Yasmin Miller with Maroochydore and Lorna Sheppard with Northside. Couple of the other Northside girls also on that roster and Olivia Thomas with SWM.
U/18s has usually been the year (particularly with girls) where "future players" get separated from "were once good juniors" and great to see these girls taking the plunge. Good on you girls!
Has the NITC got something against their athletes playing QBL or something? Apart from Aleisha and Megan seems none of the other "stars" are putting their hands up. Hope they arent all being reserved for Spartans SEABL womens program now they control the ITC.

King is a temporary placement until the position is filled and from what I've heard he has been seen more in a month than the former head was in two years. The fact the he is Coaching SEABL Mens at Spartans is irrelavant.
Could always go back to the head of the ITC living in the USA for 9 months of the year.

ITC control the Women's SEABL program? I don't think so. The head coach of the women has got nothing to do with the ITC program, and if my memory serves me correctly, only 1 girl from the ITC program is in the SEABL program so I wouldn't call that "CONTROLLING". U18's is the age area where girls start to slowly lose interest. Maybe think about that.

This kid was part of my miniball group and very junior club many years ago but even then her drive, competitive spirit and desire to get good at this game was on a much higher plane than her classmates (except maybe Ash Zandi). I always found Mum to simply be supportive (but realistic) after being caught up in Aleisha's "mission". Good on ya' kiddo!...and keep up the great work Tiana! Well done both of you.

Thats old news why couldnt she do it at nationals for Queensland, didnt score a point in finals and only in the easy games even scored at all. Same said for a couple of the girls who went to nationals very disappointing, Pam was expecting Gold or silver at the least.
Gold at the least? Wow Pam, you must be a big overachiever!

LOCAL JUNIORS MAKE AUSTRALIAN JUNIOR SQUADS
Southern Districts Basketball Association, based at the Clem Jones Youth centre is proud to announce the selection of Cade Towers and Tiana Mangkahia to the Australian under 17 squads. They will now both attend the final team selection trials in Canberra at the AIS.
Cade, who first played at age of twelve in the junior Spartans under 14 team, was selected late last year at the age of 15 to attend the Australian Institute Sport, rewarding his total commitment to basketball.
I have never known a young man so focused on doing what is needed to get to where he wanted to be offered Spartans General Manager, Allan Ladewig. Both on and off the court he listens and works hard.
As a member of the junior Lady Spartans program, Tiana has been a part of every representative team she has ever tried out for.
Ladewig went on to offer I first saw her in mini-ball and she stood out then. Again a young person who is committed to doing whatever it takes. This is a fitting reward to both Tiana and her family who work so hard within the community.
The success of these fine young Australians is testament to the great coaching staff we have here at Southern Districts Basketball Association and I am sure these young players would be the first to acknowledge that. Every one is so proud of them both.

Looks like the 18's girls went out in sympathy with the website.
Won their first 4 games in good style with the team developing good understandings and combinations. Then coach changed his rotations completely ??? SAT the players whose stats show were the production unit of the team and PLAYED extended minutes those players who had failed to produce anything significant in the first 4 games??? (One girl came to the tournament direct from Australian U/17 team training at the AIS and got to play about 10 minutes in the two hardest games ??? Does coach know something the national selectors dont?)
Experiment gone wrong and got smashed by Victoria by 20+, fair enough. But then in the crossover against NSW (who they had already beaten using the earlier rotations) coach decided to repeat the same experiment and hope for a different result?!?!~
Fair to say a lot of players and parents coming away significantly out of pocket with a heightened awareness of the huge difference between school team coaching and actual basketball. The players themselves and the parents who paid this coaches expenses away all know enough about real basketball from their experience with state teams with real coaches to know they have been ripped off badly by a school teacher masquerading as a basketball coach to get himself a paid holiday in Canberra.

Ego?!
You've obviously never had a conversation with Aleisha.
Far greater egos with far less ability swanning round in this age group.
