Got a list of the registered players?
Will be released tomorrow after all registrations have closed.
At this stage includes a good variance of players, some current ABA guys (not just from GC), some good up and comers, some vets and some quality local ballers (from both GC and further north).
Rumour also has it that Joey Wright may actually end up playing.....should be interesting!

Was a fantastic day today. To walk into a stadium with so many people just there to play basketball was awesome and some scrimmaging went well and most seemed to have a great day.
Draft was also great, crowd were right into it with plenty of cherring and clapping going on.
Working on the full team lists and also the run down on who was drafted in what position as well and should be on Gold Coast website www.goldcoast.basketball.net.au shortly and I will cut and paste them here as well.

Definitely interesting team and I think these guys drafted pretty well and potentially have a couple of real smokeys:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Izaac_Williams Izaac Williams I think is a potential 4th round steal (is an NZ NBL player).
Matt Dettmann was taken in thr 7th round and he is from Melbourne and I am pretty sure played in BIG V for a little bit.
Definitely a very solid team and should be right there in the end.
The men's are in two pools and I dare say (and stand corrected if I am proved wrong as season progresses) they are probably in the slighly tougher pool...with Formia Developments, Gullotta Orthodontics and Hot Tomato 102.9FM.
First games should be really interesting.

you have prob the best shooter Simanic and Zane a lefty who can score and is a great passer together that is a great 1-2 punch add another shooter in williams.
Does the court have the new 3pt line and are they playing under new fiba rules?

Gullotta looks okay, depends how often Joey can suit up.

Orhan Memedovski who was the 'Super Freaks' as they are being nicknamed 6th round pick could be an interesting one. He fell to the 6th round pick due to the fact he was being selected sight unseen (he nominated and placed in an exemption with his basketball background). Apparently he was part of the Nike All-Canada Camp a few years back so could potentially end up as a much better player than a 6th round pick which would certainly be a big boost for the Freaks.
Terry White - Any team with Thalo in the side is going to be tough (he was a very good marquee signing for them) and will be interesting to see how Adam and Nash are used by Weilo and how they play together (which no doubt they will do plenty of).

I hear they didnt get enough girls to the draft so coaches are asking a few up and coming young girls to fill in the spots? How will that affect their college basketball applications playing in this comp?

in the draft we could not draft player wishing to go to college as this would effect them we had to pass on our draft pick when it was our turn and select a development player.
as far as the extra players go we were given 6 points to go shopping with it guess it may make a diffrence i am not sure did not shop for younger player. maybe Allan could shed some light as i did not even think of this.

Players wanting or thinking it may be a possibility to go to play in NCAA college basketball (not Junior or NAIA) are the ones considered development players (d) and are ineligible to win/receive prize money (they elected to choose to be a development player and not be eligible to receive any prizemoney).
As per NCAA 'amateurism' rules that came into affect on August 1st, the focus is no longer on what competition a player is in (irrespective of what others receive in that competition), rather what you personally receive. So provided a player didn't receive anything over the 'normal' they could even play in the NBL or WNBL and still be eligable to play in the NCAA if they don't receive payment or any extras more than what is needed to be a part of a team (transport, accommodation, uniform).
Girls numbers were surprisingly a little low (seems like that is the case in most places at the moment) and all teams were given 6 points (there was a breakdown all coaches/owners received on how much each category of player was worth to ensure sides are not stacked through that system) to spend on 3 additional players (they all drafted 6 or 7 players and had 1 marquee from the start). Still a very talented pool of players though.
Men about 40 guys missed out on being drafted and since then another at least 20+ have asked if they can still get in but unfortunately can not until next year.
Games begin this week at 2pm @ TSS, should be an awesome season!!!

First round was a big success!
Unfortunately no games scheduled for next week due to venue unavailability and games resume on Sunday 19th September.
Will have full game reviews out tomorrow afternoon with breakdown of all scorers and what happened in the games. Quick recap though of winners below:
2:00pm CR Essentials v Bank of QLD (W) - CR by 11
3:30pm Aussie Palm Beach v Celtics (W) - Celtics by 11
3:30pm 102.9 Hot Tomato v First National; Springfield (M) - Hot Tomato by 11
5:00pm Harvey World Travel v AMB Embroidery (W) - Harvey World by 7
5:00pm Scouts QLD v Terry White Chemist Tweed (M) Terry White by 32
6:30pm Frequency 3 v Celtics (M) - Frequency 3 by 8
6:30pm Formia Developments v Gullotta Orthodontics (M) Gullotta by 1
Game of day in men was probably Formia v Gullotta, came down to final free throw by Formia (missed), both teams looked very good, as did Terry White.
Hot Tomato's win over First national was also a great spectacle. Tied at quarter, First national up at half by 15 and still leading heading into 4th, but Hot Tomato came home to strong to win by 11 (margin probably exaggerated alittle at end).
Women's games were all very good as well with some big momentum swings to different teams at various stages.
Should be an awesome day of games on Sun 19th for round 2!
Great work promoting the competition Al.
Keen to know leading scorers for each game if you're able to get to them.

Just about finished all of the full game recaps (including top scorers), which I will cut and paste here in a second. has the results, top scorers and a little breakdown of how the games went.
Round 1 was a great day of basketball.....namely the 'intensity' of the games were incredible and extremely high standard with every teams starting five or majority of them being former NBL, current ABA or similar level.
You could tell just watching the games that not only are players/coaches set on winning the big prizemoney but a lot of pride is out there on the line, especially from the coaches who hand picked their own sides in the draft.

Round 1 Results and recaps - 5th September
Women’s League
CR Essentials 64 defeated Bank of Queensland; Benowa 55
Recap: In the first ever game of ISL CR Essentials fought off two big challenges from Bank of Queensland to hold on and win by 9 points. Although CR jumped out to a 15 point lead mid-way through the second quarter, BOQ chipped away into the lead on the back of marquee Pip Connell (18 points) to close within 2 before a late basket left CR up by 4 at the main break. CR again jumped out quickly to start the third thanks to strong play from marquee Heidi Freeburn (10 points) and accurate outside shooting by Monique Porter (11 points, including three 3’s). However, BOQ again were not done with and closed the gap to within 4 points in the 4th quarter before eventually going down by 9.
Top Scorers: Mel Tronc 21(CR), Pip Connell 18(BOQ), Brittney McGowan 15 (BOQ)
Celtics Basketball Club 76 defeated Aussie; Palm Beach 65
Recap: Despite an explosive start which saw the Celtics lead by 22 early in the second quarter, Aussie fought hard to push Celtics to the finish and at one stage closed within 4 points during the 3rd quarter. Celtics Marquee Jade Abele was a force early scoring 15 of her 24 total in the first half and received some strong support from both Alea Duro and Jackie Dover who finished with 18 a piece. For Aussie, marquee Donna Catley led the team with 14 points, including some strong buckets late in the 2nd quarter to help bridge the gap, while Ashleigh Heal finished with a solid 12 points for the game.
Top Scorers: Jade Abele 18 (Celtics), Jackie Dover 18 (Celtics), Alea Duro 18 (Celtics)
Harvey World Travel; Tweed Heads 93 defeated AMB Embroidery 85
Recap: The final women’s game for round 1 of ISL was a thriller! HWT led by 6 at the first break before AMB stepped up their defensive intensity to gain the lead and extend by 6 at the main break. Both sides had momentum swings in an exciting third quarter (27-26) before going into the final break with AMB leading by 5. Despite the valiant efforts of NZ International Kate McMeekan-Ruscoe (27 points) scoring 10 in the final term for AMB, they could not slow down the offensive orientated Harvey World Travel girls who scored 30 in the final term to run away 8 point victors.
Top Scorers: Kate McMeekan-Ruscoe 27 (AMB), Rosalie Adamson 22 (HWT), Sarah Davis 18 (HWT)

Men’s League
102.9 Hot Tomato 79 defeated First National; Springfield/Collingwood Park 68
Recap: From the tip-off of this first ever ISL men’s game you could sense the true intensity that has no doubt set the tone for the rest of the competition. After trailing in the early stages First National (despite missing NZ NBL player Isaac Williams and Melbournian Matt Dettman) found range late in the first and carried that into the second quarter on the back of the hot handed Dan Simanic (18 first half points, 22 total) to pull away and they had the Hot Tomato boys reeling at half-time down by 15. In stark contrast to the first half First National struggled to find range in the 3rd quarter while on the other hand Hot Tomato’s Ryan Jeffries woke from a relatively quiet first half to explode for 19 second half points on his way to a game high 27 and received strong support from Hot Tomato marquee David Gurney who finished with 22 (13 in second half) to eventually pull out an 11 point win.
Top Scorers: Ryan Jeffries 27 (102.9), Daniel Simanic 22 (FN), Dave Gurney 22 (102.9)
Terry White; Tweed Heads 104 defeated Scouts QLD 72
Recap: Despite trailing by a point at the first break, Terry White showed they are clearly one of the teams to beat with arguably the most impressive win of the day by 32 points. Missing Will hardy and with Shaun Gleeson backing up from a morning game with the Blaze it was always going to be a tough task for the Scouts and Terry White took full advantage of the opportunity particularly as the game wore on. Terry White marquee Thalo Green was impressive finishing with an ISL record (for the time being) 34 points and received ample support from Goanna’s star Adam Darragh (25) and NSW youngster Dario Strebl (14). For Scouts youngster Taylor Barry was impressive with 32 points while Shaun Gleeson finished with a relatively quiet 16. After the game Adam Darragh was quoted as saying “Terry White….come and get us!”
Top Scorers: Thalo Green 34 (TWC), Taylor Barry 32 (Scouts), Adam Darragh 25 (TWC)
Frequency 3 85 defeated Celtics 77
Recap: Most people were writing the Celtics off for round 1 without marquee bigman Jason Aucoin and things didn’t look good when they fell down by 15 early in the third after Frequency 3 marquee Huey Robertson found range to score 13 first half points. A big effort by the relatively young Celtics side in the late stages of the third and the fourth quarter saw them cut the lead to within 2 points and looked on the verge of causing a minor upset before a few late Frequency 3 baskets allowed them to pull away for a tough 8 point victory.
Top Scorers: Zeke Meehl 23 (F3), Huey Robertson 20 (F3), Jon Harris 17 (Celtics)
Gullotta Orthodontics 89 defeated Formia Developments 88
Recap: What a way to finish a great day of basketball….with a one point thriller! Gullotta Orthodontics managed to jump Formia Development’s early in an emotional match to lead by 15 after the first quarter and maintained that lead at half-time. Dwayne Vale and Damian Petrie combined for 23 first half points as Gullotta’s put the rest of the league on alert. Despite a strong crowd of support trying to lift the Formia boys, Gullotta’s appeared to remain well in control when they went into the final break up by 12. However, with “Pistol” Peter Hill winding back the clock and finding range late along with marquee Josh Darragh the gap closed quickly and with less than 30 seconds to go Fromia were within 2. With 4 seconds on the clock Andy Harrison was fouled and went to the line with a chance to tie the game, Andy hit the first but missed the second and Gullotta’s held on to win by 1.
Top Scorers: Dwayne Vale 22 (GO), Josh Darragh 21 (FD), Damian Petrie 20 (GO)

Round 2 of ISL this Sunday (19th September) at TSS. A lot of excitement and anticipation about round 2, especially after the bye week in between a successful round 1 and this round (due to TSS being unavailable).
If you didn't get a chance to come and see the games in round 1, don't miss the opportunity for round 2 and the coming Sundays. 7 elite level games on the same day at the same venue and the cost is simply a gold coin donation for adults to come into the stadium (children nothing of course).
Last week I finished 5/7 in the predictions (not bad for round 1 with a lot of unknown factors). Below is a short preview of the games and some more predicitions:
ISL Round 2 – Preview
(Sunday 19th September @ TSS)
Women’s League
3.30pm – Bank of Queensland (Benowa) v Aussie (Palm Beach)
Preview: Both teams are coming off first round defeats and will be desperate to avoid falling to 0-2 to start the season. The Aussie team began slowly in round one but really started to get things going late and will no doubt hope to take that momentum into this game. For BOQ, they will likely have the benefit of one or two new players through free agency to bolster the young team who played with only 6 available players in round 1.
Prediction: BOQ by 7
5.00pm – CR Essentials v AMB Embroidery
Preview: CR Essentials where ultra impressive in round 1 even without their star big player Maddie Allen and have many people now predicting them to be one of the teams bound for the Grand Final even at this early stage of the competition. Both Heidi Freeburn and Mel Tronc shone in their first round win and will again be hard to contain while Maddie Allen will be back for this game and creates an interesting match-up in the sense that her father Stuart is the head coach for AMB. For AMB, marquee Kate McMeekan-Ruscoe’s highly anticipated match-up with friend Heidi Freeburn will be a key to their chances of recording their first win of the season along with how AMB go about containing the inside presence of CR. Kate had just returned from touring with the NZ Women’s team in round 1 when she finished with a league high 27 and no doubt AMB will need another big performance from her.
Prediction: CR Essentials by 15
6.30pm – Celtics v Harvey World Travel (Tweed Heads)
Preview: Both the Celtics and HWT are coming off very good wins and will take confidence into their round 2 clash. The Celtics will be missing marquee Jade Abele but will benefit from the return of #3 overall pick Jennelle Cameron who was absent in round 1. Harvey World Travel will welcome back Peta Aucoin from her honeymoon and are likely to debut free agent signing in former WNBL player Tanya Robinson
Prediction: Harvey World by 9
Men’s League
2.00pm – Formia Developments v First National (Springfield/Collingwood Park)
Preview: Both teams are coming off tough first round losses and will be desperate to prove they are legitimate contenders. Formia Developments lost a heart breaker to Gullotta Orthodontics in which they had the chance to steal the game late, while First National let a 15 point half-time lead slip. Formia’s marquee Josh Darragh had an outstanding first game and finished with 21 and will no doubt be a key focus of the FN defense. First National’s chances may heavily revolve around how ready (or otherwise) NZ NBL player Izaac Williams (4th round pick) and former Big V junior Matt Dettman (7th round) are, as both will debut this week after being unavailable for round 1.
Prediction: First National by 4 (in over-time)
3.30pm – Gullotta Orthodontics v 102.9 Hot Tomato
Preview: This game features the top two teams of pool A, who are both 1-0. Despite an ultra impressive first half performance the GO boys are being questioned as to whether they can play out four strong quarters and will be really put to the test if the rumours are correct and their 1st and 2nd round picks (Joey Wright and Damian Petrie) do not suit up. Hot Tomato played in stark contrast to GO last week and finished the game strong, turning a 15 point deficit into an 11 point win and will take a lot of momentum and confidence into this game. The performances of Ryan Jeffries and the dangerous (when hot) Dave Gurney will be the key to which way this game falls.
Prediction: 102.9 Hot Tomato by 13
5.00pm – Scouts QLD v Celtics
Preview: Scouts were arguably the biggest disappointment of round 1, going down to Terry White by 32, despite many people predicting them to be a potential top 4 side and no doubt they will be fired up to prove that it was just a minor hiccup. New Blaze signing Shaun Gleeson and Blaze development player Karl Nilson will be under the spot light as they look to lift on last week’s performances and provide scoring support to youngster Taylor Barry (32 last week). The Celtics on the other hand were not expected to push Frequency three without the inside presence of big man Jason Aucoin but numerous players stepped up as they fell just short despite a strong second half. This week Jason is back and with a stronger inside presence they will likely be a very different looking team to last week. This game will come down to which team makes the best adjustments from their round 1 loss and which players truly want that ‘W’ the most.
Prediction: Scouts by 5
6.30pm – Terry White (Tweed Heads) v Frequency 3
Preview: Both of these teams are searching for their second straight win to go clear top of pool B and both were impressive in first round wins. On the back of Thalo Green’s round high 34 points Terry White have come into the popular pick at this early stage to take the first ever ISL title, but will be under pressure to reproduce their round 1 performance to solidify that top billing. One of the exciting match-ups of this round will be in the back court with Adam Darragh and Nash Allsop (TW) pitted against Zeke Meehl and Huey Robertson (F3) and will likely be a key factor in the outcome of this game.
Prediction: Terry White by 17

Another great day at TSS for round 2 of ISL last Sunday. Great games, great food and plenty of people also enjoyed the bar being open for ISL (as it will be every Sunday).
Next Sunday (26th September) 102.9 Hot Tomato will be doing a live cross and of course another 7 games of no doubt action packed and exciting basketball.
Somebody also mentioned to me that they counted the players in the comp (men and women) who had either played for Australia (including junior level) or played in the NBL/WNBL and it totalled 25.....add to that the high amount of QBL players and it is certainly understandable why the games are so competitive.
Anyway......here are the recaps from round 2:
ISL Round 2
Game Results and Recaps
(Sunday 19th September @ TSS)
Women’s League
Aussie (Palm Beach) 64 defeated Bank of Queensland (Benowa) 60
Recap: Aussie have recorded their first win with a strong second half performance. Despite trailing by 7 at half-time the Aussie girls depth proved a little too much for BOQ down the stretch. Carine Reimink proved nearly unstoppable around the basket late, finishing with 18 second half points (21 total) to lead the Aussie scorers. Despite big scoring efforts from Brittney McGowan (22) and Pip Connell (19) the lack of depth and rotation with only 6 available players clearly hurt the BOQ girls late in the game and they will no doubt be looking for added help when they face the undefeated Harvey World Travel team next Sunday.
Top Scorers: Brittney McGowan 22 (BOQ), Carine Reimink 21 (Aussie), Pip Connell 19(BOQ),
CR Essentials 75 defeated AMB Embroidery 71
Recap: The highly rated CR Essentials have scrapped their way to 2-0 with a late surge to topple AMB. After only one point separating the teams at half-time AMB came out firing in the third quarter to set up what looked like a game winning 12 point lead. However, led by marquee Heidi Freeburn (11 of a round high 27 in fourth quarter, including four late free throws) CR dug deep to steal the win with some clutch finishing and again leave AMB lamenting what may have been.
Top Scorers: Heidi Freeburn 27 (CR), Kate McMeekan-Ruscoe 20 (AMB), Maddison Allen 14 (CR), Ashley Taia 14 (AMB)
Harvey World Travel (Tweed Heads) 94 defeated Celtics Basketball Club 66
Recap: HWT have sent a strong warning to the rest of the ISL women’s teams with another offensive onslaught in which 5 players finished with double digits led by point guard Taryn Stratten (22) and marquee Sarah Petrie (21). The Celtics despite missing key players in marquee Jade Abele and guard Melissa Gurney battled hard all game but the lack of depth showed in the later stages of the game, dropping the final quarter 29-12.
Top Scorers: Taryn Stratten 22 (HWT), Alea Duro 21 (Celtics), Sarah Petrie 21 (HWT)

First National (Springfield) 100 defeated Formia Developments 77
Recap: With the availability of two players who missed round 1 First National avoided any late slips this week with a convincing 23 point victory. Daniel Siminac (35 points – ISL record) found range early and propelled First National to an 11 point half-time lead with 26 first half points (including six treys) and with Zane Meehl (15 second half points of 23) taking over in the second half Formia were never able to get back into the game. For Formia Adam Brown (17 points including five treys) led the point scorers but it was the inability to consistently get stops which ultimately hurt the ‘Flyers’.
Top Scorers: Daniel Simanic 35 (FN), Zane Meehl 23 (FN), Adam Brown 17 (FD)
102.9 Hot Tomato 91 defeated Gullotta Orthodontics 84
Recap: Missing both their first (Joey Wright) and second (Damian Petrie) draft picks nobody was giving the Gullotta boys much hope of pushing Hot Tomato, but despite dropping to 17 down at half-time and things not looking good, a 22 point second half effort from former Cairns Taipan Dwayne Vale (30) forced Hot Tomato to work hard for their 7 point win. Gullotta’s even had the game back to within 1 point with only minutes remaining. Hot Tomato through marquee Dave Gurney (28) and Ipswich gun Ryan Jeffries (25 including 20 in the first half) were able to stave off the late challenge and move to 2-0 and top of their pool as one of only 2 remaining undefeated Men’s teams.
Top Scorers: Dwayne Vale 30 (GO), Dave Gurney 28 (102.9), Ryan Jeffries 25 (102.9)
Celtics Basketball Club 90 defeated Scouts QLD 81
Recap: Celtics welcomed back marquee Jason Aucoin (20 points) from his honeymoon to record their first win in ISL and leave Scouts winless at 0-2. Youngster Jake Allen helped Celtics turn a 7 point first quarter deficit into a 7 point first half-lead with 19 of his 24 points coming in the first half. After half-time despite numerous attempted runs by the Scouts and a game high 34 from youngster Taylor Barry, Celtics kept finding enough to hold on and win by 9.
Top Scorers: Taylor Barry 34 (Scouts), Jake Allen 24 (Celtics), Jason Aucoin 20 (Celtics)
Terry White Chemist (Tweed) 103 defeated Frequency3 77
Recap: Terry White have moved to 2-0 and in the process have everyone talking up their chances as the team to beat even at this early stage of the season. They shared the scoring with five players finishing in double digits and all ten players reaching the scoresheet led by 22 from former NBL guard Adam Darragh. After jumping to a 3 point lead after the first quarter F3 couldn’t match the Terry White firepower and found themselves trailing by 9 at half-time and 13 after three quarters before letting the game slip right away in the fourth (38-25). F3 marquee Huey Robertson battled hard for his 22 points as did Zeke Meehl (15) but they didn’t receive enough support and will no doubt be fired up to prove they are better than that performance next week against Scouts QLD.
Top Scorers: Adam Darragh 22 (TWC), Huey Robertson 22 (F3), Hayden Reed 20 (TWC)

ISL Round 3 – Preview
(Sunday 26th September @ TSS)
Women’s League
2.00pm – CR Essentials (2-0) v Aussie (Palm Beach) (1-1)
Preview: Despite nearly dropping their most recent game CR Essentials remain undefeated and will start this game as strong favorites. Heidi Freeburn proved close to unstoppable in the crunch last week and a repeat performance from her will put CR in the driving position to remain undefeated. The young Aussie girls showed great courage last week to fight back and steal a late win and will no doubt have gained a lot of confidence from that win. Aussie will also be relying on Carine Reimink countering the dangerous Maddie Allen (CR’s first selection), in what will be one of the highlights of this match.
Prediction: CR Essentials by 13 (watch out for a big first quarter performance)
3.30pm – Bank of Queensland (Benowa) (0-2) v Harvey World Travel (Tweed Heads) (2-0)
Preview: These two teams have started their ISL campaigns heading different directions and unless BOQ can find a way to finish games in the fourth quarter it is hard to see anything changing this week. HWT have been the bench mark offensively averaging over 90 points per game and provided they don’t come out too complacent should prove too good over four quarters for BOQ.
Prediction: Harvey World Travel by 18 (can’t see BOQ stopping HWT from rolling along)
5.00pm – AMB Embroidery (0-2) v Celtics (1-1)
Preview: A lot of question marks surround this game, in particular for the Celtics as to whether both Jade Abele (marquee) and Melissa Gurney (free agent) are both available to play. With both missing last week they struggled late in the game and looked far from a championship contender, however the addition of the two girls could dramatically change that if they are available this week. AMB are arguably unlucky not to be 2-0, instead they remain winless. They have lead late in both of their games against two of the early favorites (HWT and CR) only to let the game slip late. NZ and Logan Thunder player Kate McMeekan-Ruscoe will be desperate to get her first win of the season as will coach Stuart Allen and if Celtics are not at full strength and ready this week that will likely be on the cards.
Prediction:
If Jade and Melissa play – Celtics by 7
If Jade and/or Melissa don’t play – AMB by 11
Men’s League
3.30pm – Formia Developments (0-2) v 102.9 Hot Tomato (2-0)
Preview: Formia are under extreme pressure in this game which finishes the first round of inter-pool play and can’t afford to drop to 0-3 before going into pool cross-over games. After making the first ever trade in ISL history (sending Adam Brown to scouts for Tim Thompson) Joel McInnis is clearly desperate to end the losing streak of the team with probably the largest ISL fan base. Josh Darragh (Formia Marquee) and Jaydan Tom (first selection) will need to play at their peak if they are to roll over the confident boys from Hot Tomato who have been led by the hot shooting pair of Dave Gurney and Ryan Jeffries and will be fired up to impress with 102.9 Hot Tomato scheduled for a live cross during this game.
Prediction: Formia Developments by 3 (will be too desperate to let this one slip)
5.00pm – Gullotta Orthodontics (1-1) v First National (Springfield / Collingwood Park) (1-1)
Preview: This winner of this game will take a nice advantage into inter-pool play as they will jump to outright 2nd place in their pool. Gullotta’s were valiant last week on the back of Dwayne Vale’s 30 points going down by only 5 without their top two draft selections who are reportedly both ready to play this week. First National on the other hand were at full strength last week and look like true contenders with Daniel Simanic landing bombs from anywhere on the court and Zane Meehl looking much more in control than in round 1. This game will probably come down to the outside and who gets the hottest hand with numerous guys on both teams having the potential to explode on the scoresheet on their day and the potential match-up between Vale and Simanic is likely to be one of the highlights of the day..
Prediction: Gullotta’s by 5
6.30pm – Celtics (1-1) v Terry White (Tweed Heads) (2-0)
Preview: Despite a strong win against Scouts last week with the help of the inside presence of Jason Aucoin it is hard to see the Celtics (or anyone in pool B at this stage) stopping the boys in White. With Thalo Green, Adam Darragh and Nash Allsop all in great form the Celtics will not only have their hands full trying to win the game but will need to find a way to stop Terry White from scoring over 100 (104 and 103 in first two rounds).
Prediction: Terry White by 17
6.30pm – Scouts QLD (0-2) v Frequency 3 (1-1)
Preview: Missing marquee Shaun Gleeson in round 2 the Scouts were always going to find it tough but battled hard none the less and went down gallantly. With Gleeson returning from Townsville it will be interesting to see if he is both fit and ready to go and undoubtedly the Scouts chances will strongly hinge around that. F3 surprised many early jumping out to a 10 point lead over TWC, but couldn’t sustain that effort late and would no doubt be disappointed at the final score line and Coach Dion Meha will undoubtedly have the boys fired up to show they are legitimate contenders.
Prediction: If Gleeson plays, Scouts by 3. If Gleeson sits, Frequency 3 by 9.

I think they did pretty well in the draft yesterday and would place them in the top 3 teams for sure along side Formia Developments and Scouts QLD!
First National not looking too bad and probably are top 3 on form of last week, Formia 0-2 and Scouts struggling early also 0-2.

Great game bten Celtics and Terry white....it should of gone to overtime...the tip in was good! Great game though!
A couple of awesome games closeness, excitement and skill wise in the men's today; Celtics nearly pulled off the big comeback but fell short, Formia were down by 10 at half-time and then stepped up the defence and held Hot Tomato scoreless for the first 7:55 of the third and took a big lead late in 4th and then had it chopped down to 4 but held on to win by 6.
And what about First National putting a thumping on Gullotta Orthodontics.....nobody saw that coming! First national nailed 18 three pointers and have really made some teams have a good look at them after their second big win in a row.
Women's games were also good. CR Essentials and Harvey World Travel (Tweed Heads) both remain undefeated at 3-0....might be on collision course of undefeated teams for when they meet in a couple of weeks....although in saying that CR have a tough one against Celtics next week, especially with Jade back in the Celtics line-up.

ISL Round 3
Game Results and Recaps
(Sunday 26th September @ TSS)
Women’s League
CR Essentials 72 defeated Aussie (Palm Beach) 39
Recap: An explosive first quarter (21-7) has helped CR cruise to a 33 point victory and remain as one of only two undefeated women’s teams. All eight available CR players tested the scorers with Heidi Freeburn again a standout with a game high 22 points. After another poor first quarter, the Aussie girls couldn’t recover this week and struggled to find any real rhythm or any hot hands as the game progressed and will clearly want to put this game quickly out of their memory.
Top Scorers: Heidi Freeburn 22 (CR), Melissa Tronc 17 (CR), Victoria Estreich 10 (Aussie), Ashleigh Heal 10 (Aussie)
Harvey World Travel (Tweed Heads) 76 defeated Bank of Queensland (Benowa) 61
Recap: A big third quarter (17-6) has helped Harvey World Travel overcome a fading BOQ team who held a two point lead after an exciting first half. The two Sarah’s, Petrie (20) and Davis (19) were instrumental in ensuring that Harvey World Travel remain undefeated at 3-0. For BOQ, it was again a familiar story as they struggled to finish out four strong quarters with only 7 players available and the big first half effort was clearly evident on their players after half-time. Brittney McGowan was hot early with all 16 of her points coming in the first half while Pip Connell (16) only managed 6 in the second half as BOQ combined for only 18 total second half points.
Top Scorers: Sarah Petrie 20 (HWT), Sarah Davis 19 (HWT), Brittney McGowan 16 (BOQ), Philippa Connell 16 (BOQ)
AMB Embroidery 55 defeated Celtics Basketball Club 38
Recap: AMB have ended their ISL drought with a strong defensive performance and another big effort from marquee Kate McMeekan-Ruscoe (21). After leading by two points at quarter time the AMB girls came out with a lot of energy to sneak away to a 10 point lead at the main break. Celtics, clearly missing marquee Jade Abele battled hard all game but just couldn’t convert their shots from the outside and finished with 17 of the 38 points coming from the free throw line.

Formia Developments 72 defeated 102.9 Hot Tomato 68
Recap: A clearly desperate Formia Flyers side has put their first win on the ISL board with a come from behind victory over the previously undefeated Hot Tomato boys. After receiving the news he would be playing his last game in ISL this season for Formia (has now been traded to Scouts) Adam Brown went out with a bang in the absence of regular starting point guard, marquee Josh Darragh, having 32 points including 21 in the second half turnaround and will no doubt have coach Joel McInnis second guessing whether he made the right move. In a fantastic all-round second half defensive effort Formia held Hot Tomato scoreless for the first 7:55 of the second half as they scooted out to a double digit lead and additionally excited the pro-Formia crowd with some monster dunks (courtesy of Blaze development player Jaydan Tom). To Hot Tomato’s credit they fought back strongly late in the game on the back of Ryan Jeffries (26) in the fourth quarter to get back within 4 points but couldn’t quite overcome the emotional play of the Flyers.
Top Scorers: Adam Brown 32 (Formia), Ryan Jeffries 26 (102.9), Jaydan Tom 18 (Formia)
102.9 First National (Springfield / Collingwood Park) 112 defeated Gullotta Orthodontics 61
Recap: First National have exploded into serious contention for the 2010 ISL crown with a jaw dropping 51 point demolition of Gullotta Orthodontics which has everyone talking. First National finished with 18 three pointers and were again led by the hot handed and early MVP favorite Daniel Simanic who equaled his own ISL single game record with 35 points (which included 9 treys) and he was strongly supported by marquee Zane Meehl (29 points). After jumping out to a 16 point first quarter lead First National never let up and set a new ISL team point scoring record with 112. Gullotta’s missing former Taipan Dwayne Vale struggled to get anything going as they defensively watched bomb after bomb drop and the game slip away. Michael Gullotta fought hard to try and bring Gullotta’s back into the game with 16 of his team high 19 in the second half, but it was never going to be enough to hold off the new pool A favorites.
Top Scorers: Daniel Simanic 35 (FN), Zane Meehl 29 (FN), Michael Gullotta 19 (GO)
Frequency3 73 defeated Scouts QLD 62
Recap: Frequency 3 have overcome a spirited Scouts side who received news prior to tip-off that they will be searching for a new marquee as they had lost marquee Shaun Gleeson for the season (due to Blaze commitments). Despite the intensity shown by the short handed Scouts boys, Frequency 3 with both Huey Robertson (20) and Zeke Meehl (18) in fine form proved a little too good on the night. In another emotional exit, Tim Thompson who was playing his last game for Scouts (traded) finished with a game high 21 points and will now head over to play for Formia Developments in pool A while Scouts star youngster Taylor Barry will no doubt be looking ahead to next week after he was held to just 9 points (after scoring 30+ each of his first two games).
Top Scorers: Tim Thompson 21 (Scouts), Huey Robertson 20 (F3), Zeke Meehl 19 (F3)
Terry White Chemist (Tweed) 89 defeated Celtics Basketball Club 87
Recap: Terry White have escaped from a somewhat surprising scare (emphasizing the closeness of the ISL competition and that any ISL teams can win/lose on any given night, irrespective of how well or otherwise they have played in previous weeks) to remain as the only undefeated men’s team in the ISL. After being forced to sit marquee Thalo green (leg injury) for a lot of the match and losing 1st round pick Adam Darragh (30 points, including eight treys) also to a leg injury with only a few minutes remaining the boys in White looked in danger of dropping their first game of the season. In one of the most exciting and dramatic finishes to an ISL game the Celtics who were at one stage down by 15 points, had possession with 8 seconds to left in the game and were down by just 2. Point guard Antonio Reyes (24 points) looked to create space before some strong defense forced him into a tough jumper with one second left which bounced off the back of the ring before being tipped in only half a second after the buzzer by Jason Aucoin (game high 33 points). Despite protests from the Celtics fans and some players that the points should count, the basket was rightly cancelled by NBL referee Toni Caldwell and the Terry White players, staff and fans were all able to breathe a major sigh of relief.
Top Scorers: Jason Aucoin 33 (C), Adam Darragh 30 (TWC), Antonio Reyes 24 (C)

ISL Round 4 – Preview
(Sunday 3rd October @ TSS)
WOMEN’S LEAGUE
11.30am – CR Essentials (3-0) v Celtics (1-2)
Preview: The highly fancied (pre-season) Celtics have struggled in the past two weeks dropping both games and they are no doubt hoping the return of Jade Abele (missed past two games) will help change their fortunes. However, they face a tough task against the undefeated CR Essential girls who are playing full of confidence. Point guard Heidi Freeburn has been impressive in her first three weeks for CR and slowing her down (if that is possible) will be important for the chances of the Celtics. Her match-up against Goanna Melisa Gurney should be a highlight of this game and will be a major factor in the final outcome.
Prediction: CR Essentials by 5 (but they will have to work hard to earn it)
1.00pm – Aussie (Palm Beach) (1-2) v Harvey World Travel (Tweed Heads) (3-0)
Preview: Harvey World Travel will be close to full strength this week (minus Peta Aucoin – injured) and on form appear set to remain undefeated with veterans Janine Hill and Tanya Robinson available this week to further bolster the best offense in the league. Aussie will need to turn things around from their relatively flat round three performance and must find better ways to offensively stay with the HWT girls if they want any chance of finishing with the ‘W’.
Prediction: Harvey World Travel by 27 (hard to see them being slowed down)
2.30pm – AMB Embroidery (1-2) v Bank of Queensland (Benowa) (0-3)
Preview: This game could be a big turning point for both of these teams and could help catapult either team right back into the mix with a good win or alternatively leave them with a lot of work to make it back into the playoff picture. Bank of Queensland has tested all three of their opponents in the first half but have continued to fade late in games and remain winless. AMB on the other hand lost their first two games narrowly to both of the currently undefeated teams before having a strong 20 point first ISL win last round and must be feeling confident going into this game, particularly with marquee Kate McMeekan-Ruscoe in great form leading all ISL scorers to date.
Prediction: AMB by 13 (running away with a competitive game late)
MEN’S LEAGUE – First week of pool crossover matches
10.00am – First National (Springfield/Collingwood Park) (2-1) v Celtics (1-2)
Preview: First National are the hottest team in ISL right now, coming off a 51 point demolition of the highly fancied Gullotta Orthodontics and an ISL record offensive output. Daniel Simanic (FN) is leading the league in scoring and is coming off an ISL individual high 35 points (two weeks in a row) and with Zane Meehl (29 last week) also finding form last week the Celtics will undoubtedly have their hands full trying to slow down the First National guards. The Celtics with Jason Aucoin (missed first round loss) back dominating inside, after returning from his honeymoon nearly pulled off a big comeback win last round, falling just shy on the buzzer against the undefeated Terry White boys. Despite the loss they will no doubt still feel confident they can be legitimate contenders and they have a great chance to prove to the doubters that they are better than their 1-2 record suggests.
Prediction: First National by 17 (while Celtics will be competitive, it is hard to see the FN offense being slowed enough)
11.30am – 102.9 Hot Tomato (2-1) v Frequency 3 (2-1)
Preview: Both of these teams have started the season well and will be looking for a win to better position themselves for the playoff position run when they go back to play against teams in their respective pools. Hot Tomato have been both hot and cold (going 7:55 without scoring in the second half last week) in each of their first three games and will be looking for more consistency this week, particularly from marquee Dave Gurney and early pick Ryan Jeffries. Frequency 3 have gone about their business quietly with little recognition in most ‘contender’ talks and will have an opportunity to see where they are at in the following four crossover games, starting with this one. Both Huey Robertson and Zeke Meehl have led Frequency 3 well and their match-up with Dave and Ryan should be an exciting one.
Prediction: Hot Tomato by 6
1.00pm –Terry White (Tweed Heads) (3-0) v Gullotta Orthodontics (1-2)
Preview: Both teams may be short handed this week and player availability for this game will be a big key to which team wins. Terry White will be missing first round pick Adam Darragh and may also be without Marquee Thalo Green both through injury while Gullotta’s will be without first round pick Joey Wright. Both teams are coming off varying weeks in round 3 with Terry White hanging on late for a two point win and appeared to struggle without their two star, while Gullotta’s were completely smashed in a 51 point demolition. Both teams possess some quality and experienced players and this contest should on paper be one of the match-ups of the round.
Prediction: Gullotta’s by 4 (look for a big game from Dwayne Vale and some extra pride from the Gullotta boys after last week’s shemozzle).
2.30pm – Scouts QLD (0-3) v Formia Developments (1-2)
Preview: After dropping two relatively close games without a marquee player, Scouts will debut a new marquee (yet to be confirmed) and will hope to get on the board and back in the race. Youngster Taylor Barry had a quite game (9 points) last week and will no doubt be looking to make amends this week. Formia missing key players and their coach last week scrapped hard for their first win and will be looking to make it two straight to put themselves back into a better position in the tight pool A. Both teams will also have an interesting make-up to their sides with their respective top scorers from round 3 traded and they will suit up for the opposition team (Adam Brown 32 last week now playing for Scouts and Tim Thompson 21 last week now playing for Formia). As was the case with Formia last week, this game will come down to desire and who wants the win more.
Prediction: Formia Developments by 2 (on the back of a big game from Jaydan Tom)
*** Early games this week due to the NRL Grand Final which kicks off at 4pm.
***NRL Grand Final will be shown live on TV in the TSS Hall of Fame and everyone can enjoy the benefits from our fully licensed bar and canteen facilities which will be open until after the Grand Final is complete.

2:00 pm- Gullotta Orthodontics (2–3) v Scouts QLD (2–3)
Preview: Scouts QLD have turned their season around dramatically following some great wins in the past two weeks, the inclusion of new marquee Steve Broome without doubt having some affect on a team that seemed to struggle at the beginning of the season. The Gullotta boys also seem to have found some form after an impressive win over Frequency 3 last week after a sluggish start to the season. Both teams will without doubt be looking to build on these wins, however with centre Justin Laws ( 6 foot , 9 inches) out injured for the Gullotta Orthodontics side they will struggle to match the height of the Scouts QLD line up.

With marquee Jason Aucion averaging 31.8 points per game the Celtics will need some others to come to his aid this week as they face the top of the pool Hot Tomato team who will be looking to make amends for last week’s fourth quarter letdown. Is there going to be a recap of last weeks games and a preview of next this weeks games?
Sorry guys...have been away in Indonesia and trying to get everything done before and after.
Here are all of the playoff scenarios as it stands with just 1 round to go. The concept has clearly worked well in regards to closeness and competitiveness as 13/14 teams can still make the playoffs (the 14th would miss on a tiebreak).
Now onto this week's games.....and the scenario's facing all of the teams who can still make the finals (13/14 ISL teams can still make the finals...sorry Gullotta Orthodontics even a massive win this week actually won't be enough to get through the tiebreaker and only 4 teams have sealed a spot):
Men
Pool A Scenario 1: Hot Tomato win + First National win = Hot Tomato 1st and First National 2nd
Pool A Scenario 2: Hot Tomato win + Gullotta Win = Hot Tomato 1st and First National 2nd (in 3 way tiebreaker, best head to head record)
Pool A Scenario 3: Formia win by less than 20 + First National Win = First National 1st and Hot Tomato 2nd (in 3 way tiebreaker, head to head for and against)
Pool A Scenario 4: Formia win by over 20 + First National Win = First National 1st and Formia 2nd (in 3 way tiebreaker, head to head for and against)
Pool A Scenario 5: Formia win by over 41 + First National Win = Formia 1st and First National 2nd (in 3 way tiebreaker, head to head for and against)
Pool A Scenario 6: Formia win and Gullotta Win = Formia 1st and Hot Tomato 2nd (tiebreaker head to head record)
Pool B: Terry White are guaranteed 1st position
Pool B Scenario 1: Celtics win + Scouts win = Celtics 2nd (in 2 way tiebreaker, head to head for and against)
Pool B Scenario 2: Celtics win + Frequency 3 win = Celtics 2nd
Pool B Scenario 3: Terry White win + Scouts win = Scouts 2nd
Pool B Scenario 4: Terry White win + Frequency 3 win = Frequency 3 2nd (in 3 way tiebreaker, best head to head record)
Women
For 1st/2nd: Winner of CR v Harvey World will finish 1st other will finish 2nd.
Celtics are guaranteed 3rd place.
4th Place Scenario 1: Aussie win = Aussie 4th place
4th Place Scenario 2: AMB win by 3 or more + Celtics win = AMB 4th place
4th Place Scenario 3: AMB win by 2 or less + Celtics win = Aussie 4th place
4th Place Scenario 4: AMB win + BOQ win = BOQ 4th place (in 3 way tiebreaker, head to head for and against)
Will have some recaps of the past weekends games (the big double header Sunday) and previews of this weeks games coming out in the next couple of days.

clearly the pool system looks flawed as 4 of the tops 5 teams are from the same pool. obviously no one could predict how it would turn out but possibly a rethink for next year?

Depends on your thinking of "Flawed" as the pool system actually worked a positive in regards to round 10....not bad when all 7 games being played impact who makes finals in one way or the other ;)
Definitely couldn't predict how it would turn out...even when you look at some of the lower teams and anyone was truly a threat against anyone on any given night. Celtics a prime example finishing the seaosn 3-7 but lost 5 games by 4 points or less (3 in the dying seconds of games after leading).
There is never a perfect system, but it certainly has been exciting!

Amazing day at The Southport School (TSS) for the last round of regular season play in ISL. 13/14 teams were still alive and all 7 games impacted on the playoffs structure and there were some very interesting (and somewhat unexpected) results.
Game Results and Recaps - Round 10 (final regular season round) (Sunday 14th November 2010 @ TSS)
Women’s League
CR Essentials 58 defeated Harvey World Travel (Tweed) 30
Recap: The contest for 1st and 2nd seeding turned out to be somewhat of a fizzer with CR dominating from the outset. However, if the final is a re-match Harvey World captain and owner Janine Hill has promised that it won’t be a walk in the park for CR as they were more focused on sharing playing time this week then getting the win and they are ready for the finals. The CR defense was key to their win holding Harvey World to just 30 points (well below their average). Despite Harvey World downplaying the loss, one has to believe that CR will enter finals as the clear favorites and team to beat.
Top Scorers: Heidi Freebrun 16 (CR), Maddison Allen 16 (CR), Tarryn Stratten 13 (HWT)
Celtics 81 defeated Bank of Queensland (Benowa) 80
Recap: Bank of Queensland have fallen heartbreakingly short of what would have been a playoff spot despite leading late into their final game of ISL 2010. Despite opening the season at 0-6 Bank of Queensland had turned things around late and can hold their heads high with their late season play. Celtics on the back of a late 3 pointer from Bronte Enkelaar and a game winning free throw from Rebecca Morris enter next week’s do or die playoff with Harvey World with some strong momentum and have signaled this competition is far from a 2 team race as many are predicting.
Top Scorers: Jade Abele 22 (Celtics), Alea Duro 20 (Celtics), Pip Connell 19 (BOQ)
AMB Embroidery 70 defeated Aussie (Palm Beach) 59
Recap: AMB have overcome the absence of star marquee Kate McMeekan-Ruscoe with a late surge to win by 11 points and gain the 4th playoff spot. The difference for AMB this week was their ability to get multiple players involved and they finished with four players scoring double digits. Aussie fought hard despite missing marquee Donna Catley through injury and struggled late after losing star inside presence Carine Reimink with 5 fouls early in the 4th quarter. AMB will now be crossing their fingers that Kate is available next week in their big semi-final with the 9-1 CR Essential ladies.
Top Scorers: Carine Reimink 17 (Aussie), Arianna Paurini 16 (Aussie), Aleisha Myers 14 (AMB)
Women’s Final LadderCR Essentials 9-1

Terry White (Tweed) 87 defeated Celtics Basketball Club 84
Recap: Celtics season has ended the way it went for most rounds dropping another heartbreaker on the buzzer. It was their 5th game in which they lost by 4 or less points and had a chance to win and they are knocked out as clearly the unluckiest team of the season. After leading by 11 points early in the 4th quarter Terry White as always found a way to get back into the game this time through the Scott Paget. ‘Pagey’ hit a three to tie the scores and two free throws to again tie the scores before being on the end of an Adam Darragh special with 2 seconds remaining to steal the win with a 3-pointer which never looked like missing. Despite his best efforts once again Jason Aucoin’s 42 points weren’t enough to push the Celtics into the playoffs (a win would have been enough).
Top Scorers: Jason Aucoin 42 (Celtics), Scott Paget 23 (TW), Adam Darragh 23 (TW)
Formia Developments 97 defeated 102.9 Hot Tomato 74
Recap: Wow!!! Coming into the game Formia knew they needed to win by 20 to guarantee themselves a playoff spot and they certainly didn’t die wondering with a second half onslaught which ultimately kept them alive in the 2010 ISL race for $5,000 and ended the season for Hot Tomato who entered the last round as the pool leaders. Veteran Peter Hill was key in the late run winding back the clock hitting 7 threes and finishing with a team high 23 points. Late in the game marquee Dave Gurney tried his best to keep the loss under 20, finishing with a game high 28 but the momentum and crowd support for Formia proved too strong in the end.
Top Scorers: Dave Gurney 28 (102.9), Peter Hill 23 (Formia), Tim Thompson 22 (Formia)
Scouts 90 defeated Frequency3 73
Recap: In what turned out to be a virtual quarter final the Scouts have proved too strong for a short-handed (or should I say big) Frequency 3 side to book a playoff spot, in what looked like an impossible task early in the season. Youngster Taylor Barry continued to impress for the Scouts finishing with a team high 22 points (including 5 three pointers) and received strong support from Blaze development player Karl Nilsson (16) and Will Hardie (14). Frequency 3 missing four players tried valiantly but never truly looked in the contest after the first quarter.
Top Scorers: Hugh Robertson 28 (F3), Brendan Legassick 22 (F3), Taylor Barry 22 (Scouts)
First National (Springfield) 95 defeated Gullotta Orthodontics 79
Recap: First National have survived a major scare with a late rally in their sudden death final round game and have eliminated Hot Tomato in the process. Despite trailing by 14 at half-time First National came all over the top of Gullotta’s and cleared out late. Izaac Williams stepped up with a personal season high 24 points equal top scoring with Daniel Simanic. For Gullotta’s the season ended in similar fashion to most of the rounds, with some unavailable players and poor second half performances.
Top Scorers: Dwayne Vale 31 (GO), Izaac Williams 24 (FN), Daniel Simanic 24 (FN)

Well it is now down to 4 men's teams vying for the winners take all cheque of $5,000 and 4 women's teams vying for the winners take all cheque of $3,750 as well as the prestige of being on the first ever champions of the Intensity Super League.
This Sunday (21st November) the semi-finals of ISL are on at 12.00pm and 1.30pm at The Southport School (TSS). Should be 4 awesome games!
Here are the comprehensive previews for all of the ISL semi-finals:
WOMEN’S LEAGUE
12.00pm: CR Essentials (9-1) v (3-7) AMB Embroidery
Preview: On season records this game looks like a complete miss match, however, that may not necessarily be the case if AMB marquee Kate McMeekan-Ruscoe is available. In round 2 AMB were unlucky not to actually defeat CR and were not far off the mark again in round 7. As is the case in all levels of basketball finals can be a great leveler and different people react differently to the pressure and with $3,750 on the line to go along with the prestige of being on the first ever ISL champion team…there is plenty of pressure and anything can and may happen!
CR Essentials points of emphasis: Keep the ball out of Kate McMeekan-Ruscoes hand and find a way to slow down youngster Aleisha Myers.
AMB Embroidery points of emphasis: Find a way to keep Maddie Allen and the CR veterans off the boards and minimalise the amount of mid range uncontested jump shots Heidi Freeburn is allowed to take.
Season head-2-head: CR 2-0
Round 2: CR Essentials 75 defeated AMB Embroidery 71
Round 7: CR Essentials 69 defeated AMb Embroidery 58
Top individual scoring averages:
Kate McMeekan-Ruscoe 19.0 (AMB), Aleisha Myers 17.9 (AMB), Heidi Freeburn 16.1 (CR), Maddison Allen 13.2 (CR), Monique Porter 10.8 (CR)
Prediction: CR Essentials by 8. This should be a much better game than the win/loss records indicate it will be. AMB have pushed CR to the end in both games this season but the overall experience of the CR players will prove the difference. If Kate doesn’t play for AMB then expect the margin to be significantly larger in the end.
1.30pm: Harvey World Travel (Tweed) (7-3) v (6-4) Celtics
Preview: Despite their big loss to CR last week Harvey World come into this semi-final as strong favorites. The last time these two teams met Harvey World were missing marquee Sarah Petrie and toughed out a 1 point win. This week Harvey World will have a full side, while Celtics will be missing point guard Melissa Gurney (injury) and Coach Gavin Kilgour. Both teams are full of experienced veterans and this is sure to be a game that should contain a warning ‘not for the faint of heart” as the two most productive offenses in the ISL women’s league are sure to keep firing and fighting to the very end.
Harvey World points of emphasis: Slowing down leading ISL scorer Jade Abele and converting their own outside shots better than they have in the last two games.
Celtics points of emphasis: Winning the battle inside the paint and forcing the Harvey World shooters into taking tough shots.
Season head-2-head: Harvey World Travel 2-0
Round 2: Harvey World 94 defeated Celtics 66
Round 7: Harvey World 73 defeated Celtics 72
Top individual scoring averages:
Jade Abele 22.0 (Celtics), Janine Hill 17.3 (HWT), Sarah Petrie 14.6 (HWT), Sarah Davis 13.1 (HWT), Rebecca Morris 13.8 (Celtics)
Prediction: Harvey World Travel by 5. Look for experienced forward Sarah Petrie and veteran Janine Hill to come up trumps under pressure and prove to be the difference between the two sides.
Women’s Top 10 Regular Season Point Scorers
1. Jade Abele (Celtics) – 176 points
2. Aleisha Myers (AMB) – 161 points

6. Alea Duro (Celtics) – 124 points
7. Janine Hill (HWT) – 121 points
8t. Maddison Allen (CR) – 119 points
8t. Taylor Joyce (BOQ) – 119 points

Womens Grand Final: 3.00pm, Sunday 28th November @ TSS
MEN’S LEAGUE
12.00pm: Terry White (Tweed) (9-1) v (6-4) Formia Developments
Preview: Despite winning 9/10 Terry White may not have everything their own way in a match-up which they would no doubt have ‘revenge’ in the back of their mind as Formia are the only team to have defeated the team commonly known as the Terry White “Poppers”. Both teams had big second halves last week with Terry White coming from 11 down late to snatch a last second win over Celtics while Formia blew away Hot Tomato by more than the 20 required to qualify for the finals. With a shot at $5,000 on the line both teams are expected to be at full strength and that will ensure that this game is going to be a thriller and a game you don’t want to miss.
Terry White points of emphasis: Denying Peter Hill open looks (he has been red hot of late) and ensuring they stay focused on their own game.
Formia points of emphasis: Minimalising the scoring damage of Thalo Green and winning the battle of the Darragh brothers.
Season head-2-head: Formia 1-0
Round 6: Formia Developments 88 defeated Terry White 77
Top individual scoring averages:
Adam Darragh 24.7 (TWC), Thalo Green 20.1 (TWC), Peter Hill 19.0 (Formia), Tim Thompson 16.7 (Formia), Piers Crawford 14.9 (TWC)
Prediction: Terry White by 9. Terry White have been the bench mark team all year and it is hard to see all of their scorers being slowed down enough for Formia to steal the win.
1.30pm: First National (Springfield) (6-4) v (4-6) Scouts
Preview: Both teams come into this game full of confidence after winning do or die final round games. First National beat Gullotta’s by 30 points in the second half (they were down by 14 at half time), while Scouts cruised to victory over Frequency 3. The last time these two teams met it was a thriller with Scouts pulling out a tough 6 point win with both teams missing their marquee players and another tight game throughout is likely to occur again. Both teams have gone through marquee player changes from the start of the season and now feature marquee big men Steve Broome (Scouts) and Zac Compton (FN) after starting the season with guards and expect both guys to significantly impact this game.
First National points of emphasis: Finding a way to contain the dangerous big man duo (Steve Broom / Troy ‘Romper’ Pinkerton) and finding a way to rattle youngster and Scouts leading scorer Taylor Barry.
Scouts points of emphasis: The Scouts defensive focus will be intent on slowing down Daniel Simanic (if that is possible) and denying him open looks, while at the other end of the floor utilizing their skillful big men.
Season head-2-head: Scouts 1-0
Round 5: Scouts 83 defeated First National 77
Top individual scoring averages:
Daniel Simanic 28.7 (FN), Taylor Barry 21.6 (Scouts), Steve Broom 14.7 (Scouts), Izaac Williams 12.6 (FN), Adam Tyrus 11.7 (FN)
Prediction: Scouts by 4. This one is going to go down to the wire! The difference may prove to be the size and experience of the Scouts big men.
Men’s Top 10 Scorers
1. Jason Aucoin (Celtics) – 292 points
2. Dave Gurney (102.9) – 270 points
3. Daniel Simanic (FN) – 258 points
4. Dwayne Vale (GO) – 211 points
5. Hugh Robertson (F3) – 202 points
6. Ryan Jeffries (102.9) – 196 points
7t. Adam Darragh (TW) – 173 points
7t. Taylor Barry (Scouts) – 173 points
9. Zeke Meehl (F3) – 161 points
10. Peter Hill (Formia) – 152 points

10. Peter Hill (Formia) – 152 points

joel mcinnes or vdogg for mens coach of the year
Joel? Vdogg? Which one of you is this ;)
If anyone saw the jacket that Joel wore last week, he will certainly win worst dressed coach of the year hands down!!!
The coach of the year for ISL will be interesting, it is judged on a 3-2-1 by all coaches and owners in the league (so 16 votees).
You would think Weilo would be favorite with his team finishing 3 wins above anyone else and he had sole decision making on draftees, but Joel and Vdogg will certainly be up there.

weilo i didnt think about due to having some very good vets on the floor that would make his job a little easier but he has done a very good job with the record he has in a tough league.
joel dfeinately loses points for his coat on sunday lol. that was horrible he needed to wear a grey one with orange pinstripes to match the formia colours then it would have worked.

ISL 2010 Semi-Finals: Game Results and Recaps
(Sunday 21st November 2010 @ TSS)
Women’s League
CR Essentials 87 defeated AMB Embroidery 35
Recap: CR Essentials asserted themselves as clear favorites to take out the inaugural ISL season with an emphatic 52 point demolition of a Kate-less AMB Embroidery side. It was always going to be tough for AMB without Logan Thunder star and marquee Kate McMeekan-Ruscoe and CR took full advantage. CR worked well as a team finishing with 6 players scoring 9 or more points, led by Monique Porter with 20 and both Sharon Fowler and Maddison Allen with 17. For AMB after falling down 19-8 at quarter time they were never able to get back into the game and struggled to find anyone to step up and take the game over. Top scorers for AMB were Samantha Black with 12 and rising 15yr old star Aleisha Myers with 9.
Top Scorers: Monique Porter 20 (CR), Sharon Fowler 17 (CR), Maddison Allen 17 (CR), Samantha Black 12 (AMB).
Celtics 69 defeated Harvey World Travel (Tweed) 48
Recap: Celtics have advanced to the ISL 2010 Grand Final with a minor semi-final upset over Harvey World Travel. After jumping to the lead early the Celtics continued to find ways to maintain and ultimately extend their lead while limiting the often potent Harvey World offense. It was a truly team orientated win by the Celtics with 7 players scoring 8 or more points, led by Marquee and captain Jade Abele with 15 and centre Rebecca Morris with 13. For Harvey World as expected experienced duo Sarah Petrie (14) and Janine Hill (11) led their teams in scoring but it was not enough to capitalize on a great regular season and again showed that come finals it can be a whole new ball game.
Top Scorers: Jade Abele 15 (Celtics), Sarah Petrie 14 (HWT), Rebecca Morris 13 (Celtics), Janine Hill 11 (HWT)
Women’s Grand-Finals (Sunday November 28th @ TSS)

Women’s Top 5 Scorers (regular season + finals)1. Jade Abele (Celtics) – 191 points
2. Aleisha Myers (AMB) – 170 points
3. Brittney McGowan (BOQ) – 156 points
4. Sarah Petrie (HWT) – 145 points
5. Heidi Freeburn (CR) – 142 points
Men’s League
Formia Developments 88 defeated Terry White Chemist (Tweed) 82
Recap: Despite being the most dominant regular season team in ISL going 9-1 the Terry White boys have been left to lament what could have been after falling to an emotionally charged Formia Development Flyers team in front of a packed house (standing room only) at TSS. Formia entered the game as clear underdogs and with head coach Joel McInnes again wearing his lucky (but ugly) blue jacket the “Flyers” carrying the knowledge of being the only team who had previously beat Terry White this season clearly still believed in themselves. Formia set the tone in the first quarter coming out firing to stun Terry White early and taking a 20-14 lead at the first break. The second quarter was similar to the first with Formia taking it to the hot favorites and they had extended their lead to 9 (45-36) by half-time. With an upset on the cards both teams traded baskets in the 3rd and heading into the final break the margin remained 9 points (66-57). Thanks to a monster effort from Terry White marquee Thalo Green who finished with a game high 44 points Terry White edged back to within 2 points and they looked on the verge of pulling of a herculean comeback. However, a clutch 3 pointer from former NBL legend Peter Hill (6 points) who had played one of his quietest games of the season and some vital free throws sealed the upset and now has the Formia Development Flyers just one win away from an improbable Championship after starting the season 0-3.
Top Scorers: Thalo Green 44 (TW), Luke Phillips 20 (Formia), Jaydan Tom 17 (Formia), Timothy Thompson 16 (Formia)
First National (Springfield) 69 defeated Scouts QLD 65
Recap: If the first semi-final didn’t have hearts racing amongst the large ISL semi-final crowd, the second surely would have with another tight and emotional finish ending with First National holding on for a thrilling 4 point win. After a high scoring start to the game First National headed into the first break with a 4 point lead (23-19) and until mid-way through the final quarter they maintained their advantage until late in the third quarter when Scouts through some tough defensive stops found a way to level the scores going into the big 4th quarter. First National again jumped to a lead early in the last quarter before the Scouts again managed to find a way to level scores through tough inside play by Troy “Romper” Pinkerton (22 points) and Steve Broome (14) and with only 1:30 remaining scores were all tied at 65-65. After taking a two point lead with 15 seconds remaining and First National up by just 2 points a rare missed free throw by First National star Daniel Simanic (16 points) looked like it would give Scouts the chance to send the game to over-time but it was not to be with First National big-man Robert Manson coming up with one of the most important offensive rebounds of the tournament to ultimately seal the win and a Grand Final berth for First National.
Top Scorers: Troy Pinkerton 22 (Scouts), Daniel Simanic 16 (First National), Steve Broome 14 (Scouts), Robert Manson 13 (First National)

WOMEN’S LEAGUE
3.00pm: CR Essentials (10-1) v (7-4) Celtics
Preview: On regular season form it is hard to tip away from CR Essentials, however the one and only team to have beaten them this season is the Celtics (we saw a similar situation last week with Terry White and Formia in the men), so anyone who thinks this is a mismatch may be in for a surprise. Both teams boast deep and experienced line-ups and have numerous players who can easily take this final game over. Despite the amount of stars playing in this game, the likely key match-up will be found inside the paint. Young CR Essentials centre Maddison Allen will be up against experienced Celtics centre Rebecca Morris with the winner of this battle likely to have a large bearing on the outcome. No matter the outcome it will be a tight battle to see who takes home the $3,750 ISL 2010 winner’s cheque.
Comments from CR Essentials Head Coach Stacey Roberts:
Key to winning the final: “We need to make sure we are offensively consistent against either the Celtics man or zone defensive and we need to work hard to control the rebounds at both ends”.
Potential CR difference maker: “If Heidi Freeburn is as consistent offensively as she has been all year and if she can get a few more offensive rebounds it will go a long way to helping us win”.
Potential Celtics danger player: “Alea Duro is the wildcard, when we lost to Celtics she proved the difference, forcing the game into over-time with some clutch late baskets”.
Comments from Celtics Head Coach Gavin Kilgour:
Key to winning the final: “We need a strong all round defensive effort and ensure that we control the defensive rebounds”.
Potential Celtics difference maker: “If Jennelle Cameron can contribute offensively to go along with her strong defense”.
Potential CR danger player: “Besides the obvious top couple of scorers if Sharon Fowler gets easy looks from the corner she could prove dangerous”.
Season head-2-head: 1-1
Round 4: Celtics 56 (Jade Abele 28 points) defeated (in overtime) CR Essentials 55 (Sharon Fowler 14)
Round 9: CR Essentials 59 (Sharon Fowler 17) defeated Celtics 44 (Jade Abele 28 points)
Prediction: CR Essentials by 6. They have been the best team overall and would be the worthy first ever ISL Champions. Look for an MVP type performance from point guard Heidi Freeburn, especially if this game is close down the stretch.
MEN’S LEAGUE
5.00pm: First National (Springfield) (7-4) v (7-4) Formia Developments
Preview: Both teams come into this game well prepared having won their past two games in “must-win” situations. Round 2 saw First National take Formia to school with an easy 23 point victory but a lot of things have changed in 10 weeks and don’t expect any repeat of that. Round 9 is probably a better indication of how closely these two teams match-up with Luke Phillips the only key player who didn’t suit up in that game for Formia while First National were at full strength. There are numerous offensive weapons on both teams and a lot may depend upon who is hot on the day and how each team handles the pressure of playing in the Grand Final.
Comments from First National Head Coach Michael ‘Vdogg’ Van Dongen: Key to winning the final: “We need to focus on limiting the impact of Formia marquee Josh Darragh and work hard to keep their big guys, in particular Jaydan Tom and Andrew Waite off the glass”.
Additional comments: “The jacket that is worn by Joel McInnis is the ugliest thing I have ever seen anyone wear while coaching basketball”.
Potential First National difference maker: “If Izaac Williams has a good game we generally play well, he is not our top scorer but can be hard to stop when he is playing well”
Potential Formia danger player: “Josh Darragh is the obvious one we need to limit and we also need to ensure we don’t give Peter Hill open looks”
Comments by Formia Developments Head Coach Joel “Blue Jacket” McInnis:
Key to winning the final: “We need to ensure we minimalise the open looks there quality shooters have, continue with our great team chemistry and intensity and develop an inside presence early”.
Potential Formia difference maker: “If Jaydan Tom can repeat his great performance of last week we will be very hard to beat”.
Potential First National danger player: “The obvious one, Dan Simanic is a great scorer and has led his team all season and we can’t afford to let him get hot”.
Season head-2-head: First National 2-0
Round 2: First National 100 (Simanic 35 points) defeated Formia Developments 77 (Jaydan Tom 14 points)
Round 9: First National 93 (Simanic 31 points) defeated Formia Developments 85 (Peter Hill 22 points)
Prediction: Formia by 2. This game is going to be tight. Expect plenty of points scored. The team that handles the pressure the best in the 4th quarter will walk away the 2010 ISL Champions.
7.00pm: Dinner + Presentations (In the TSS Hall of Fame)

Have to agree with the post above. interesting that top points includes finals games. Would have preferred to see highest average points maybe. better indication of games played etc.
great first year of this league but definately some interesting awards chosen on the day i think. to me it seems a bit weird that jefferries tied third place in mvp votes and adam brown finished 5th yet neither can make the first allstar 5?? brown didnt even make it at all. and noone from formia made the first 5?? oh well i guess there is only room for so many players.
i guess it just proves that the team you are selected on and the players you are put with determines your standings on the season. interesting to see if meehl played all season for first national if daniel siminac would have as good stats or jefferies got the ball more in his team he would have had differnt stats or meehl played more games for freq 3 if huey robertson would have done as well.
just one quick quesiton also. it says in the bylaws for the competition that the GF would be played as a curtain riaser to a blaze game????????????

Some answers to the above which may explain some of your queries. Always nicer answering posts with names, but oh well...none the less.
1 - Top point scorer - we decided from before the start of the season that we would have this include finals so it would be the person who had legitimately scored the most points in all of ISL, all games included. We are also keeping all-time career stats. No particular reason, just how we decided to do it and chose that from the start. Top points average becomes even more controversial (and great thing about awards is that different people always have different opinions as to how they should be decided and who should win them) is that players can play 5 or 6 out of 10 games and still win that.
2 - MVP - was chosen by the referees on a 3-2-1 basis everygame. Exactly as the brownlow.
3 - All-star teams where chosen on a 5-4-3-2-1 votes from all coaches and owners.
Hence why a couple of the top 5 vote getters didn't make the all-star 5 and vice versa. Obviously winning and who is on your team will always impact differently in all types of sports voting systems, just part and parcel of it.
Formia didn't have anyone in all-star 5, but peobably because they had argueably the best 'team' in the comp in the end. They did have 2 games (Josh Darragh and Jaydan Tom) in the all-star second 5.
Originally it was planned to be played as Blaze curtain raiser. As it turned out Friday night this week we would have had to play it (or everyone would have had to wait until even later) and game would likely also have has to tip-off no later than 5pm, in addition spectators would have to leave stadium and re-enter for Blaze game (due to staffing of of the centre). All coaches/owners agreed with our recommendation to play it at TSS...which well and truly proved to be the right decision. 600+ came out to watch (no way that many would have watched it if played at Convention Centre in that time frame), great atmosphere for both games and also allowed the ability for us to have the dinner and awards immediately after the finals.
All in all, great day and very pleased that all agreed to the change and it proved the right decision in my opinion.
Yes, definitely some things we can do better next year (there always are with everything) but all the feedback from owners/coaches/players has been fantastic and a lot of people really excited about next years ISL competition (draft will be August 28th 2011).
Next years prize money will also be increasing even further ;) with the men's winning team likely to win around $10,000.

everyone will always have opinions on such a new idea and league but it does appear everyone is supportive and offering suggestions rather than criticism which is great to see. i dont think i have seen one negative comment on here or heard anything bad around the traps.
