I would like to know if the referee actually has the power to do this. To go from Saville's third to Smith's first was a HUGE call.
I am sure someone will quote me the referee's decision is final or whatever the power of the referee part is.
I just found it odd that Butler didn't talk to Craddock straight away after the second free throw rather than wait a couple of possessions before actually having that conversation with Campbell. The second free throw went in from memory so he could have stopped it , talked about it and made his decision.
To me it looked like Jason Smith after pleading his case to one parent (Craddock) and not getting the answer he liked, went to the other parent (Butler) and got the answer he wanted just like a kid would when wanting something.
If Butler didn't have a whistle on it then how can it be changed by him. Craddock seemed definite about it being Saville by Saville's reaction when he spoke to Campbell.
As Carfino said it could set a dangerous precedent about players potentially telling fibs to get players out of foul trouble.

Just for you DJ.
Bullets player drives to basket on the way goes past two Kings players basically standing in the same spot. He gets bumped by them and the foul is called. Campbell calls it on Saville which would have been his third early in the second quarter. Sav & Smith go to Campbell to plead their case- no dice.
Then Smith shoots over to Butler and tells him it was him who fouled the Bullets player. And you can follow the rest from the first post.
Brisbane player going to the basket, fouled in the act of shooting, 3 other players in the vicinity, Smith and Sav being two of those. Campbell picked one. Jason sooked. Scotty gave him a treat to chew on. Joey sooked. Scotty sent him to his room. No dessert.
I didn't have a problem with the call being changed.
When the foul occurred, it seemed clear to me that baby Smith was the culprit, and I was surprised that the notch went against Sav.
Not too sure what tv replays showed ....

AYLEN SELECTED FOR BEIJING OLYMPICS
07.02.08
SEABL employee and one of Australia’s best Basketball Referees Michael Aylen has been selected to referee at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.
The International Basketball Federation (FIBA) announced the names of the 30 referees who have been nominated for the Basketball Tournaments of the Games of the XXIX Olympiad in Beijing, People's Republic of China on the 6th February, 2008.
“To referee at two Olympic games is beyond my wildest dreams. I have been working towards Beijing ever since I returned home from Athens, as the experience was overwhelming“ Aylen said
Aylen was selected for the Athens Olympics in 2004, and also ventured to the FIBA World Basketball Championships held in Japan in 2006.
It is a huge honour to be selected to referee at the Olympic Games, and the SEABL is proud of his efforts, and wish him all the best success.
Michael was one of two Australians selected to the Olympics along with Queenslander Scott Butler. Both Michael and Scott have refereed in the SEABL.
The Olympic Basketball Tournaments will be played in the Nanjing Olympic Sports Center of the Chinese capital. The Men's competition will take place from 10th to 24th August 2008, while the Women's tournament is scheduled from 9th to 23rd August 2008.
There are no statements by Scott in that press release, it simply mentions that he has refereed a SEABL game once (i'm not sure if this is true, possibly years and years ago). Clearly to say that he is making statements about the relative merits of different leagues is wrong.

if one Referee call's a foul thats that! no other ref can change that call they can talk about it and then the ref that called the foul can change it no other referee one the floor can make that change! i have Refereed 1 season off NCAA collage ball and if i did that i would get my head riped off! no matter who you are Scott Butler or me you can't change another Referee's call! you can talk with him about it thats about it!
bEn: your lack of grammatical awareness would suggest you're yet to referee U10 biddy ball, let alone NCAA!!!1!!! /lulz

aahhahahahah lol ben, touche. i partially agree with him tho, once its been called that ref has to make the decision to change it, the partner can tell him they dont agree and tell em what they saw but at the end of the day the person who made the call would have to change it, HOWEVER if scott was ref(which he probs was (as apposed to umpire for those who are unaware)) maybe cambell just told scott that he agreed with him and told scott to change it, thats the only thing i can think of....
i didnt see it so im just working with what was said
bye
