Should make for a pretty diverse comp then. Is it you guys and Hervey Bay, or just Warwick entering in the Men?
Redlands D League Men have our trials starting this week, I'll be in more of a position to say what we can and can't do for preseason then. If you or anyone is up for a preseason scrimmage I can be contacted on csmith @ internode . on . net

I wont say no to a weekend away at HB, but i don't know about a trip away to Warwick in winter....
I know HB is a growing club with ties to Bundy, but does Warwick have the player base to support a D league team, or will it be stacked with players from Brisbane.
Good point about a winter game in Warwick. Very Similar weather to Toowoomba at that time of year, tiny bit further to travel from Brissy but not much more.
As for the player base, don't be too concerned. Have been keeping an eye on D-league last year, and I think you'll be suprised by the quality of these country boys. I can see a few tears being shed by some brissy boys when they lose to the country boys. Only 3 players from outside of Warwick. Rest all local players.
You certainly won't be wasting your time playing them. They won't be easybeats!!:dunk:

Have the rules changed for D League?
Have the rules changed for D League?
Not sure about which rule you are talking about?
Mike McDaniel is a restricted player. Was going to retire this season. As a Warwick resident, decided to help the boys out with some experience for their first season. Are you scared of playing against a 40+ year old player??

Here is a question for you why would you have a 40+ player in a DEVELOPEMENT team?
Get Mike to coach the team, then he passes on his expertise. If you are relying on him and Perdue, both way past their prime to make you competitive, then maybe you are not ready for D league? Plus they are taking 2 spots in the side that could be used for younger players.
Not telling you how to run your team, but when you come on here and say are you afraid to play agianst a 40+ player, you kind of open yourself up for a few questions.

I agree.I see a Development League as just that.If you have a look at Vic & NSW they run them as u/22 NSW call it Youth League and it is a stepping stone to their number 1 team.
I think it's great Mike and Leon are having a run for Warwick. They'll give a lot to the team not just in terms of performance, but aiding the development of the younger pups on the team.
Let's face it, the 'D League' isn't just for young kids who can't play U18s anymore - it's becoming what it should be, a legit second-tier league to the QBL.
Anybody who's bitching about Mike/Leon playing is probably a scaredy cat who only wants to keep playing against other little kiddies :)

Actually Ben I think they should have a State League and D-League .Dont know cost wise how feasible it is but if they had a north and south conference with winners meeting at finals weekend I think it would b great.Lets face it how many kids are lost to the sport when they turn 18 or how many retire way to early as they dont make QBL and have no where else to play

What would we be scared about? The top teams are still gonna beat you guys by 30, 40-50 anyways..
Stop trying to talk your team up through using washed up 40 year olds who will probably just try and hit people coz theyve got no game left.
The legit teams in the comp will still put 120 points past you guys!!

to add more on this i think we should have QBL which consists of a club having both mens and women's team as well as a development team that is under 23 with two players restricted (as in over 23 with rules in place for them) then run a separate southern cross league where clubs whom are not QBL can play. there for the clubs can bring through their juniors to create depth and have the southern cross with no restrictions and allow players to be seen. i do like the idea of the conference system for the d league and alternate the finals each year between the north and south. maybe women in south men in the north then swap it the next year.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with the d league at the moment. RB, Suns, Toowoomba and a few others have been the bench mark for the last 5 or 6 years and id say most of those players from all years would be 25 or under. the only thing thats wrong with it at the moment is clubs not developing their juniors to make the d league strong. it has to be the next step from 18s/20s to build a strong QBL program (rather than just spending up big every year like Mackay)
Keep d league as it is just do more work with your juniors and that will make the comp better. Nice number of teams this season in the mens, obviously on the rise again

Agree it's a good thing. In a new 'building' program Mike and Leon are great experience to share a court with. I know many young players who played their first senior basketball running the lanes, learning angles and game smarts off legitimate guys who once were champions and are now on the way down in their careers.
It's really only the 'never were champions' that sometimes come out of the woodwork and relish the chance to assert their brilliance and physical dominance over 'little kiddies' in a development league that anyone finds counter productive.
'Cruel' little buggars I know but I know at least one u/18 kid, tired of smashing everything in his age group who relishes the chance to swat a Mike McDaniels or Leon into the stands (not that they're even old enough to know who Mike was) but least they will get the chance to hone their craft (and I suspect get taught a little respect and humility as well!) against blokes who have paid their dues and have actual legitimacy in the game.
D League this year is actually showing signs of being a genuine QBL under pinning competition. Heard of one association where sponsors have offered money to the D League (but not the QBL) program as they want their business to be associated with what they consider the future of the sport in their town. Good sign for this league.

Warren Berginey's vision for the sport! He also conceptualised a National Development/Youth League Championship final 4 weekend as well. I reckon it would be a reality today if not for Waz's untimely passing. Maybe it will happen soon just the same if this league keeps gathering momentum.
I think its interesting how people think that D-League should involve only under 23s. I have a question! The D-League for NBA - Is that only Under23s?

Probably not but couldnt be certain. Not saying I agree or disagree, theres points for both sides, but they probably base their opinion on the basis of the widely held opinion amongst elite basketball coaches, in Australia at least, that if a player hasnt been identified or playing at least some time in the NBL or various ABA competitions by age 23 then realistically they probably arent going to in any significant way in the future. Not agreeing or disagreeing, just saying...

Totally agree with your comments. This is precisely the reason that Warwick are entering the league. I think that you'll find Warwick has a few "nice" young players who haven't had a chance to be recognised through BQJBC etc. Leon and Mike have been great in trying to help them to come into a league which is a higher level than they have been used to before, but still keeping them competitive. A season in D-League and I think that a few QBL teams could be looking at a few of these guys for higher levels. It certainly isn't a case of Leon and Mike trying to "Relive glory days".
As someone in an earlier post mentioned, We can only hope that this may even raise the level of the league over the next few years.

A bit of digging shows they have a perfectly legit coach with QBL experience anyway. Why NOT have the two experienced guys come in and lend a hand in an expansion team? Coach has said the bulk of the team will be juniors/guys new to this level, there's the development. More digging shows their pg might be decent as well. They are stepping up from Regional League (which they won). Will be a bit of a step I would think, but I know a lot of young guys who would love the opportunity to learn from some old heads whose experience (and skill, I would imagine both can still play) might win them more games than they lose, esp at home. Stop hating and enjoy the ride, it's good for bball.

Where was I hating? I asked a question of Gladiator after he made a smart reply to someone, still hasn't answered my question either. So where in my post do I HATE on Warwick?
I also never questioned the legitimacy of their coach, just added that Mike is a great coach and would be able to pass on his emmense knowledge in that way, which I feel is the best way to do it.
Merely asked the question, personally I would never have two 40 year olds in my D league team. Maybe one, but two just don't cut it for me, defeats the purpose of developement IMO. I was just curious why they felt the need? I stated that if they needed 2 40 year old guys to be competitive then maybe they were not ready for D league, I stand by that comment and still do.
Are you part of their organsation? I know lots of people have had their say, just not the one guy I know is involved in the club and made the first comment about being afraid to play against 40 plus guys. Still waiting for him to comment too....not hating just asking?

Silly comment earlier about "Being afraid". Obviously if you are playing D-League, you've probably proven yourself at representative level and had to outplay others to earn your spot! My apologise, Good for you. The only real point that I am making is the same that I have been making throughout my other posts. Here are 2 guys nearing the end of their representative playing days, wanting to help some young guys in their first season in D-League. Turns out that Leon is only available for half of the games anyway due to work commitments. As for your comments on only having one player of that age - each to their own. Both players love playing and giving back to Warwick Basketball. Great to see so much interest in the "New kids on the block". Looking forward to hearing more about other teams getting ready for the season and looking forward to the Warwick team "Developing" immensly throughout their first season!

Strong team up in the Mountains, with Glover being the strong hold of the QBL team before they started getting imprts. Either that means there is good development through the ranks or some of the players don't want to step up or maybe can't get a run in the big league team.
With such a strong team in D league, you could say then that Tbar QBL will be strong in the next few years. Is Ebneter playing Div 1 this year, cause he was clearly a stand out player in last years D league comp.

Quiet an intersting point you make.....I am thinking that you have seen some pre-season games, or possibly even played against them. Yeah there in-experienced relating to a state league comp, but not all of there pre-season games have been at full strenght.
I don't know how you can make that call on the performances thus far.
Game v Tbar QBL - totally out of there league but wanted to experience some younger players to the speed of the teams that will be playing against.
Game v Logan - Very understrenghted team went down to Logan
Game v Nth Brisbane Dragons - The boys pushed the dragons at times, but a well drilled team like the Dragons were always going to pull together as a team in the end.
Game v Tbar D League - All players under 21 and two old heads and a few players playing with injuries.
Bearing in mind that some of these younger players have not played in an intense fashion that the state league comp is played in. They have talent, just need work....May not be a force straight away, but will open some peoples eyes....If u go into games against them expecting an easy run, be prepared to have egg on your face.....

They should with the elder statesman/talent they have.
The true "development league" teams will have a tough battle with them, not trying to be nasty but old heads and experience should always beat youthful enthusiasm.
Got to say I would hate to have to be Maroochy travelling to Warwick or vice versa for a game, that is one hell of a long road trip either way.

if the "true development league teams" have a tough battle with the teams with old heads then thats fantastic for their "development"
only place worse i can think of worse to play then Twmba in the middle of winter is Warwick you cant leave your dog bowls outside there
I used to live in Toowoomba, worst thing was going outside to hose the frost off the grass and having the hose frozen.
Having said that, both Toowoomba and Warwick coaches seem to be very interested in preparing their teams well for the upcoming season. Warwick has searched far and wide for games and Toowoomba are entering into the QBL preseason comp this weekend at Ippy and are willing to play other D League teams as well in preparation.
Great to see :)

AginPossibly? OK lets have an objective look at this, Toowomba
will be in the top 3 as they have pretty much the same as last year. Seahawks are the current champs and I would expect them to bechamps again.caboolture will be in the top 5 maybe higher if Hayden plays.Spartans will be in the top 4. Brisbane North Side Will be in the top half. Logan Gold Coast.Red lands.south West.Noosa and Maroochydore will be down the bottom.Ipswich will be around 5 and War rick will have a lot of wins at home and get logged by the better teams when they travel. Know its gonna upset a few people but bet I am pretty near spot on at season end
1. Toowoomba.
2. Seahawks,
3. Caboolture
4. Districts
5. Brisbane
6. Northside
7. Logan
8. Gold Coast
9. Redlands
10. West Logan

Wouldnt mind coming early and working with your players to do a bit of a clinic type thing for your grommets, if you think it'd help promote your program and the game ?

With there being 15 teams in the comp I would think it would be a good idea to have quarter finals, semis then the final. As it is you only play each other once so why not have the quarters where 1v8 2v7 3v6 4v5 and then the 2 highest winners earn a home semi. Too me this only seems far

BQ would turn around and say they don't have enough weekends.Easy all teams play another double header I don't have a problem with that.NSW Y/L comp use to play as many as 26 games from April to August.
Besides if you had a 8 team finals you have more teams striving to make them.If you have a comp where you have 1 or 2 stand out teams and only 4 in the finals doesnt leave much left for the other 13 or so

Those beachboys just do what they bloody want anyway and dont ask BQ about anything. Knowing their luck Billabong or someone has a wetsuit that looks like skins and they'll be reppin' it for them.
Sounds like there'll be plenty of 'heat' in the Warwick stadium that night anyhow. Failing that theres always the rumbos option. Whats a good pub to stay at in Warwick?

About time you babies stop whinging about who plays in the league and accept it for what it should be - a second tier league to the QBL, and not a half-arsed competition for 19 year olds who don't make the state league cut already. If there are solid players having a run, you all should be grateful that level of talent is available to play against, it will only serve as a very good learning tool.
Does anyone know of what pre-season games are going on around the different centres over the next 3 weeks?? should be some good squads starting to form for D-league. Not long to go now guys. Bring it on!

I totally disagree with this, it isn't a 2nd tier comp, it is "the development league". How is 30 and 40 year olds playing in this league developing anyone. If these older players are not good enough to make the QBL team there are plenty of local leagues they can play in. Just my two cents.

yes you are right because young players wont develop if they play with/against stronger, more experienced players... (please dont miss the sarcasm intended here)
people are either scared of losing or have no idea about basketball if they think having a couple of older guys running with a team isn't going to help them get better... although i agree if you have a QBL program & your team is still full of them then that's not developing much...
but there are a few teams in the D league who dont have a QBL team to step up too & the A grade comp isn't that good like Warwick.. so those young players in that competition are going to need players like Mike to get them to the next level & make the competition more even...
i dont really see the point of having a comp where the same teams are at the top half every year if you are trying to "develop" youngsters make it as competitive as possible so they have to play hard every week...

Caboolture, Noosa, Bundy playing Sunday at Noosa.
Redlands Men went 1-1 for the day. In the morning we beat a Bundy D League/QBL team by 4 in a shortened game, then were blown out early by a high intensity South West team at Redlands tonight before holding our own for a couple quarters and fighting to the end. SWM are much improved from last season and will be an formidable team to play during the season. Redlands with injuries (two serious, one happening on the night) and player absences due to other commitments for the second game didn't help the scoreline, but SWM are a solid team and we're very grateful for the run, organised at short notice.

Suns beat Noosa in the arvo by 3. Nossa lead the whole game by around 12 and were up 13 going into the last then suns came back and hit a 3 and a steal for a layup inside the last 15 seconds to win. Noosa look legit this season though definately wont get the spoon this season. Suns pretty much the same side as last season with a coupld of ex fringe players i think.

Spartans v Seahawks
Northside v Brisbane
Towoomba v Ipswich
Warwick v west Logan
Caboolture v maroochydore
Logan v Redlands
Here's some tips:
Seahawks still waiting on their college big to arrive, Spartans will be ready to go with several of their line-up training in the SEABL squad. Will be the best game of the round but Spartans by 8, perhaps even a chance for OT.
Northside will start well and Brisbane never seem to get their best talent playing in D League so Northside by 20.
Toowoomba with only minor changes from last year's team while Ipswich have pretty much a new lineup and not a lot of experienced players. Toowoomba by 30+
Warwick missing their PG through injury, West Logan if anything similar to last year will play a hard fast style and put Warwick away early. WL by 20+.
Caboolture again a team with good results last year and a swag of kids wanting a game, Mdore just not able to get the players playing who should be playing. Suns by 30-40.
Logan solid in pre-season hitouts and whilst Redlands are getting some juniors into D League, they will not match Logan's ability to score and won't be solid enough in transition D. Logan by 20+.

Guys who helped Mdore win everything in U16 & U18...
Cabrera and Corey (for whatever reasons) havent played since u/18 and dont intend to apparently?
Seth now a fixture in the QBL team with Zane not playing.
Juilleratt on the roster and training with D League but hoping for NCAA and sitting out of all competition till that situation finalised.
Cam committed to D League earlier on the basis of what his playing time and role would likely be with QBL this season but with the change of coach and guard roster will now probably play full time with QBL when the elligibility question is resolved.
Both Seth and Cam would definitely boost the D League side but will probably benefit more from the increased availability of court time and different playing style in new QBL which is a win/win for them personally and the future of the club.
That being said the standard of D League is high this year judging by the Caboolture example last night and both Seth and Cam wouldnt be 'overqualified' in this league. However with 18 players still on the roster, ranging from u/18s to u/20s with 2-3 'senior' guys and all players still 23 and under, the development/underpinning league roster for Maroochydore is realistically probably what it should be in a rebuilding program. Expect to see more of the D League guys seeing QBL as a legitimate pathway now as the season progresses.
One step at a time and everything in good time. Mdore will be good again dont you worry.

We get what we pay for...zilch=zilch.
Still reasonable to expect that at least one of the many staff at headquarters might take a couple of hours to coordinate information availability on a Saturday night to promote the league. It is the future afterall.
What about someone from the Clubs stepping in (pro bono) to do some media and game updates/results?
Looks like a genuine underpinning league this year. Might be the start of something big?

Legitimate lineup Guess it must be the coaches fault they stunk it up. Gonna be a long season with wanna be coaches that dont have the answers when it counts
Absolutely! Definitely the coaches fault. Steve couldnt hit the 3 and Gordo didnt get 1 rebound! The club only went with these two because nobody would play for the alternative. hahahaha Have to start somewhere and somebody has to do it.

Southern District Spartans women defeated Runaway Bay by approx 40-50 points. Reffing in that game... hmmm... An intentional foul from Runaway Bay's number 5 on SD player number 14 had the crowd and bench lift off their seats. Have to say very disgusted by this unsportsmanlike behaviour.
Good to see both the Heals in their new clobber, welcome to the Dark Side.
RB had a lot to say for a team being beaten by 50 points.....

Gold Coast beat SWM...GC just too committed.
Yeah I saw this game as well.SWM scored 21 points in 2nd quarter and 28 for the other 3.Gold Coast defensively were good but offensively seem to have a lot of improvement left in them. Was disappointed with SWM as everyone said they would be the big improvers

agreed....maroochydore didnt impress at all on saturday night....lets just put it down to first game gitters maybe next week will be better
Marrochydore certainly not up to Caboolture's standard at all. Caboolture just out classed them with a superior team. Maroochydore keep your heads up, I thought you guys did well with a team of u18's and u20's. Great to see some more development being done at the local level. Caboolture just have a few years of development in front of you.
In my opinion Maroochydore played well after a terrible start as they rallied a few times to bring it back with in a few points. In the end Caboolture showed their class and was clearly too strong.
Seems to be a few haters out there of the Maroochydore Clang or is just one run down disgruntled ex coach expressing his frustrations again. Let's move on. . . . . . .

Number 5 never intended for that to happen at all! She actually knew the girl and was quite upset about how she had fell. Dont go off your assumptions about what YOU think was supposively intentional becaue at the end of the day i talked to number 5 about the inccident and she claims she didnt mean no harm at all. So before you post stupid crap like that make sure your facts are truthful. Its users like yourself that create false information and end up starting unwanted arguments !

Mate, they just kept on coming! Seemed like there were 20 of them! Subs were seamless and they never missed a gear. Just when it looked like a 'gun' was tiring and we might capitalise on the replacement he'd light up too. Cabs all small to power forward size managed by a dynamic and smart backcourt and all shoot the shit out of it.
Great place to play! Tendy hundred enthusiastic volunteers, visitors and home team players treated like royalty and a kick-arse team thats got their home crowd howling. Bet Mdore arent the only team to leave the "Cab-bin" this season wondering what the hell hit them!
Sorry to spoil your 'under the radar' status Matty. Just feel a civic duty to caution the unwary. hahaha
Had to laugh at the post before by some internet cafe troll who obviously wasnt there taking away from the Cabs team cohesion, fitness and ability to take yet another swipe at the Maroochydore coaches. Their young team must be doing well to have this nuffy every week demeaning them and the blokes who were game enough to try and rebuild a program after years of nepotistic mis-management. Players were pumped at training on Sunday and know they aquitted themselves well under fire. Happy days ahead.
Cheers
You know who.

I know the Spartans number 14 and she claims differently, so two sides to every story. Totally agree that it should not have been mentioned on here. However for you to say what you have said does not help either, unfortunate incident, let's leave it at that.

It looked bad and was very spectacular but the Ref didnt even call a foul. No lasting injury, time to move on.

I think that you'll find that a couple of players names did not show up on team lists when entering the results into the system. They say that this should be fixed up this weekend.

Knowing number 14, she was so angry about no call from the reffs and knowing this particular girl 'accidently' tripped her, she refused benching it. She's a fighter and she didn't want to let her team down and she fought through the pain and hell did she come back and send them a message. She played better and harder after her fall. If that girl did intentionally trip her it shows what a great player #14 is. You didn't see her come back on and try to trip #5 or push her over, she has sportsmanship. Her way of revenge was to smash them in the game. Nothing will stop that kid, she's a great player.

So will I. They were a far better team than Maroochydore before they got their import. Anyhow Maroochydore couldnt beat time let alone Noosa.

I am refing the competition this year. I have heard nothing about a tipping comp. Where did this information come from?? that would be interesting to know. After a few rounds there is alwayd going to be talk about who is the best team around. We watch the games just like everyone else.

warwick wil be fine, still missing leon and their point guard, not saying leon will make a huge impact but i fair say if their point guard was playing, it would be a different story, maybe not winning but i lot more competitive.
