EAST DOMINATE ALL STAR MATCH

In front of hundreds of eager basketball fans at Vodafone Arena, the East Men All Stars dominated from the tip off and finished the game 124-91 winners. Both teams started at a blistering pace with both teams scoring at will. Frankston Blues import David Gruber was dominating early, scoring nine points in the first quarter and also cleaning the boards at the defensive end.

East All Stars opened up a nine point lead mid way through the first after consecutive three pointers from Nunawading Spectres Michael Thorp. But Hobart Chargers Daniel George and Anthony Stewart improved at the offensive end and helped their team bridge the gap to trail 32-34 after the first quarter.

East All Stars coach Frank Arsego asked his team to lift at the defensive end, and it proved to be the deciding factor, as the East pressured the South All Stars in to many costly turnovers. East punished the South with numerous fast breaks and many easy baskets and increased the lead to 11pts early in the quarter.

South struggled to score in the second quarter, recording a terrible 28% from the field and East keep running the ball and were finding many easy baskets. The East All stars outscored the South All stars 34-20 and went into the half time break leading 68-52.

2005 League MVP David Gruber continued his dominance in the second half, scoring nine points in the third including a thunderous dunk, thanks to a sensational assist from Supercats Jason Reardon. Gruber was unstoppable, and put the game out of the South All stars reach thanks to another solid offensive display. He was able assisted from AIS youngster Zac Carter and Canberra Gunners veteran Paul Denman.

With pride at stake, the South All Stars started the fourth with more intensity, determined to lower the margin, but the East All stars had to much firepower coming off the bench and the South All stars were once again outscored 23-19 in the fourth.

Both teams put on a great display of SEABL basketball, with all players having an impact on the game at various stages in the game.

Frankston Blues forward David Gruber was by far the standout of the game finishing with 25pts and 11rebs. Nunawading Spectres Michael Thorp added 19pts, Supercats Jamie Medved had 13pts and 3ass, and team mate Jason Reardon had a solid all round game performance with 8pts, 11rebs and 6ass.

Hobart Chargers Daniel George led the South All Stars with 16pts and 9rebs, with Mt Gambier Pioneer Dallas Jeffree providing 15pts off the bench.
