View Full Version : Top Referees
I was just wondering who people thought were both the top referees in Queensland for both senior and junior levels.
Personally i think Logan (im not from there) have an excellent program! And the brisbane stadiums are exetremly lucky to have the dept in there educators. I feel the pain of maroochydore and other small clubs who basically have noone though :(
Love to heard ur thoughts!!!:D:D:D

Couldn't agree more, Logan have an excellent program and produce quality refs.
Logan along with Townsville did very well at Classics and had alot of finals reefees. Townsville also had four U14 National refs. (Im not from Tvill or Logan either).
My personal favourites are:
Luke Patrick
Gerrard Young
Tibor DiJong (sp)
Scott Butler
and Ken Bill when he's in a good mood.

I want to congratulate the two refs from Southern Districts that refereed the U16 girls game against Ipswich. They were the best refs that I've come across in a long time. I'm actually being serious, they were not intentionally biased, like some other refs are to their association and were calling quite a lot of the fouls, WHEN NEEDED for both sides.

Logan referees are by far the best there is in the compition at the moment . They referees that come out of logan are all quality refs . They deserve a big rap for this :)

Townsville is meant to have one of the best referee programs in the state yet whenever Townsville referees call any of my games they don't seem to be up to the standard of southern district referees.

Unfortunitly townsville should have the best program in queensland but with some of the people that are doing the education here in townsville do not have a clue what they are doing. If townsville got rid of them and brought in the people that new what they were doing it would be back to what it use to be 15 years ago.
Scott Butler easily the best referee in Oz.
Anyone wishing to study the pro in action should watch Game 4 of the recent NBL Finals series. The Fox cameras catch a great bit where Sctt's talking to BG during a 'volatile' situation. Very well handled.

hahahha that's a load of rubbish. Townsville ref's got all four grandfinal's for 16's boy's and girls there would of been actually 2 townsville ref's on the grandfinal for the girl's but they didn't do it beasue her sister was in the team. So Townsville ref's run rings around any other ref's.

Yes. Congrats to the four Townsville referees at U16s finishing very well. Shows Tvills depth and work/committment to their referees.
Good Luck at U18s . . .
The refereeing for the boys and girls final in u/18's was outstanding. There were, of course, the occasional questionable calls but the consistency and communication displayed by the officials was top notch, and kept the games flowing nicely. The standout was definitely the male referee in the boys game - Townsville refs should take note on how to manage a game properly through good communication. Not sure about the 16's (although everyone keeps telling me how bad the reffing was?), but the southern refs ran rings around the Townsville refs at 18's.

the only reason the townsville refs didnt do well at 18s was because they came straight from 16s and literally from the airport straight to 18s to help out. Plus you may have noticed that all 5 refs that attended from townsville and cairns were under 17 years of age and that they have done very well to get as far as they did, obviously they were going to be no match for the older referees that have much more experience than they do
but there is always next year

Has anybody seen the female ref who use to be based from caboolture or somewhere like that. I think her name was annette or something like that. You know the one...short dark hair, not too tall....I think she use to work in one of the jails in brisbane.
I thought she was a good ref. Is she still calling games somewhere.

Well done to the two refs at the Under 14 Girls Classics, especially the two finals refs. The young boy , Darby or something similiar, was consistant the whole Classics. It was unfortunate that the tall you boy who refed the Div 2 final didnt get Div 1. But still a good effort.

FYI we are not favourites (townsville referees). Lets not even talk about favourites. We got finals at 16s last year because we refereed well. We didnt get finals at 18s because (a) we were tired and (b) we were still development referees at that level.
We didnt do badly at nationals because I know that both Rach and I got glowing reccomendations from the evaluators there (I cannot speak for Michael D'Arcy as I have not asked him).
I want to congratulate all 6 Townsville referees who attended 14s - 3 of which got grand final games (Darby, Courtney and John) - hard work at juniors pays off and you need to keep at it.
I also want to congratulate the referee and evaluator crew at U16 Boys this year for a good performance on (both playing and refereeing) and off court, we all had a fun tournament and Croft Dog did a great job.
Finally, this is a forum about referees, not somewhere to bitch about other referees. We are supposed to be a team with our fellow referees, and although we may laugh at their expense, we have no right to go onto a public forum and criticise them by naming them. What kind of message does this send to players/coaches from around the state. Referees are a team, not two or three individuals on the court, make it the same off court too. If you wanna bitch, do it with other people who care and not on the internet!
On a happy note, cant wait to see everyone at 18s :)
Love Jessup.

Sorry i know this is a little off topic but what level do you have to be at to three man officaite a game? i always thought you would have to be at least a 2?
You don't?
The ability to run, hold a whistle and at least comprehend 3 man mechanics is all you need.
Unregistered
22-09-09, 10:21
There isnt any pre-requisite to reffing 3 man. Its simply a different set of mechanics to 2 man.
The ability to run it well still comes from understanding the game and using the mechanics effectivly, which is learnt over time
